Fragrance Review: Maksim's Musk Couture Maksim is making some great fragrances, and Musk Couture is no exception. This fragrance boasts an impressive longevity of over 12 hours and excellent projection. It's an extremely well-blended fragrance with a rich array of notes. I can distinctly detect the benzoin, cedar, oak moss, oud, and tobacco. As the name suggests, the star of the show is the exceptional natural musk. Historically, natural musk was obtained from the male musk deer, a small, shy species found in the mountains of Asia. Only the males produce musk, secreting it from a special gland known as the musk pod. The scent of natural musk is described as woody, warm, and earthy with a hint of sweetness. Despite its strength, Musk Couture remains very wearable. Maksim has truly created a masterpiece with this fragrance, adding another remarkable creation to his collection. Musk Couture is versatile and can be worn on various occasions. Musk Couture is sincerely one of the most unforgettable scents I’ve come across in years. It opens with a juicy mix of raspberry and litchi, bright and a little wild, with a fresh green twist that instantly grabs your attention. Then it shifts—slowly, beautifully—into something deeper. The heart is this warm, elegant blend of ylang-ylang, chamomile, guaiac wood, and a soft touch of aged tobacco that adds just the right hint of mystery. But it’s the dry-down that really got me. The natural deer musk, Indian oud, and cypriol create this earthy, sensual base, softened by vanilla and benzoin. It’s comforting, a little dark, and incredibly alluring. Musk Couture has moderate sillage and great longevity, making it perfect for evenings or those special occasions when you want to wear something truly unique. That said, it’s not for the faint-hearted. The bold, animalic opening hits hard, but it gradually transforms into a beautiful blend of herbal and woody notes. It’s daring, memorable, and definitely not your typical fragrance—a perfect pick for anyone looking for something with real character and depth.

Musk Couture Maksim Perfume What inside mind of Maksim during these creation. I don’t know, however the way he talk thought scent of this creation is wonderful mind. I am able to link this with Mongolia Migra by Phin. My early meet is that Sabirian musk is wonder material, complex and human at the same time. While Prin decide to opulent and “how big, how blue, how beautiful”, Maksim instead tell story as “it is” like a pinch of his hand. In this particular creation, here lies the natural musk. The complication of Dear musk, Maksim introduce in easy digest-able format. Enhance naturally by elements of musk, approach of same idea with “Zoologist dear musk” or “Musc Nomade” Goutal. Musky clean, green, warm spicy. Perhaps Ambrette we use often become olfactive closest to Dear Musk possible, improve to White Musk. May lead us away from actual musk. But you know, you lead back everytime. When it smell like a nook of your underwear. Remove freshly from your body. Nasty, Naughty, Expose and Embarrass ,Addictive Human.

Bought Musk Couture, which is pretty new, and it's kinda different from what I usually go for. The first thing you notice is a mix of green and herbal notes with a hint of raspberry and litchi. Kinda fresh but with a twist. As it settles down, the middle notes come out more. The ylang-ylang and guaiac wood add a nice touch, and there's a hint of tobacco that gives it a bit of edge. Not too strong, just right. The base notes with natural musk and Indian oud are pretty solid. They give it a deep, earthy vibe that lasts. Plus, there’s vanilla and benzoin that add a bit of sweetness, not too much, just subtle. Overall, it’s a pretty unique blend and definitely stands out. Lasts quite long too, which is great. Perfect for evenings or special occasions when you wanna wear something that’s not your everyday scent.

One of the most interesting floral woody musk compositions in recent years, this is a beautifully conceptualized natural perfume. The fragrance opens with a blend of fruity herbal notes leading to a unique woody floral heart of ylang, chanomile, guaiac and tobacco. The perfume settles on a musky bed of deer musk, slight oud, vanilla and cypriol. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. The perfume is not for the faint hearted. It is demanding (opens with an animalic bang and settles into herbal bliss) and has real animal musk. Enjoy!

It’s a green herbal musk oud blend. Imagine some oud with the sumatra or subah profile ehich natural tends toward green herbal touches and chocolate base then add some musks. Oud indochine is similar with amped up greens with cardomam and a noticable minty feel with less musk.

Musk Couture stands out with the natural smelling note of Litchi perfectly blended with Oud and Musk. I spray it mostly in the evenings; on clothes it last for 24-36 hours! The smell in the morning is a mellow Oud with sweetness! Masterpiece!

One thing I can state with high confidence now being mostly through the entire Maksim Perfume line is that, even though they tend to follow classic structures and generally work with the same materials, they are certainly not boring and somehow manage to not feel repetitive even though many commonalities exists between the perfumes. With Musk Couture I had expected something very similar to Bestia Sacra, which had I followed my own rules and gone through a brand's lineup in chronological order I likely would have made this assumption vice-versa. Again, commonalities abound, but Musk Couture does not feel beastly, sacred, or even that musky despite its name. The latter description is relative to the Maksim Perfume line it should be said; Maxim Bortnikov does not shy away from musky notes in the slightest. Getting the commonalities out of the way, Musk Couture is the deep, black, dense, thick, rustic, resinous woody profile we've come to know and love from Bortnikov. His stylistic signature is one of enormous muscularity in very shadowy light. His favorite nagarmotha and South East Asian oud materials are present and well accounted for, helped along by a big heaping of benzoin. The nagarmotha is just on the right side of salty sweaty, cold ember smoke, and decaying compost. The oud lacks the animalic barnyard and medicinal qualities of its cousins from further West, and instead pushes oily and resinous woods and a lovely, thick tropical floral quality. If it wasn't resinous, sticky, and thick enough, an earthy-vanillic benzoin comes along to cast you into place like being stuck in super glue. The adornments to Maksim's staple materials are key to Musk Couture's individuality. There is a beautiful chamomile note in the opening that is powdery yellow floral and dryly honeyed, accented ever so slightly by dehydrated red berries and a sweet pea galbanum edge. Gorgeous. The heart layer pulls the chamomile down from the top and morphs its character into a custardy, starchy, yellow, tropical floral ylang-ylang note that keeps the all-too-serious resinous nagarmotha and oud woods from scowling. Musk Couture has a playful and devious smirk in this heart layer. The benzoin is already playing upwards with the loamy earthy vanillics. The final dry down focuses on thick gray musks and aromatic cedar, a bit of sharp green mosses, and the persistent benzoin. All that said, it is not really a musk perfume but more of a couture perfume insomuch as Maksim Perfumes is able to make one with its penchant for broad, dark, muscular woody presentations. In moments it nearly veered into gourmand territory but stopped shy of making the mouth water. It is not as challenging as L'Oud Marin, not as bold as Bestia Sacra, nor as pretty as Cologne d'Agar, but covers a fair amount of ground in all three sectors to be interesting and engaging, and very pleasant to smell throughout its long life. Yet more solid work from Bortnikov.

Wasn't sure what to expect with Musk Couture. Would it be very animalic, powdery or ? Well, it opens with an interesting herbal plus a fruity touch. I only got raspberry in the opening. It was almost - just almost - fresh, but not quite. As it dried down, I started to get the middle notes - in this case something floral with a touch tobacco. The tobacco wasn't overpowering; just about right. Then, at the bottom, I got the musk and oud. It wasn't a stinker, more earthy, but not like moldy soil, sorta warm earthy and, well, musky. It was also at this point I did detect a slight sweetness, perhaps from the vanilla and resins. As time went on, in the far dry down, it became more of a plain woody scent. Performance was a mixed bag. Longevity is quite good - still has a strong skin scent at the 10 hour mark. Projection was more moderate - somewhat strong for perhaps the first hour but then quickly diminishing to a skin scent. Strikes me as very masculine. While the scent smells great in the air, it's even better on the skin, close up. Something special for those intimate moments. On an animalic scale, it's not very. Much milder than Maksim's Bestia Sacra. I'd say if you're a guy who has gotten over the first animalic hump with some milder oud or Kouros or something like that, you could easily take Musk Couture as a next step. Maksim as a real winner here. I've put it on my shopping list. I just love the way it leaves a warm glow on the skin. And experiencing its evolution as it dries down is awesome. Nothing linear here. Something different and definitely more of a special occasion fume.

Not that different from Amber Balsam to my nose, and I'm quite confused because they were very different on paper. In fact, every Maksim I've worn so far has been very different on skin compared to when I tried them on paper. For instance, Cologne d'Agar smelled like a classic rose oud with some spices, whereas on skin it's a very spicy rose with ambers. Back to Musk Couture, just like Amber Balsam this too opens up with that Bortnikoff signature "vintage" feel, and after some time the tobacco and green notes become more noticeable. This also has a much more noticeable oud than Amber Balsam, but it's still quite easy and non challenging as far as ouds go, especially within Maksim's own line. I do like this more than Amber Balsam though. I'll refrain from commenting about the performance of this line going forward because these samples use the crappy generic black atomizer a lot of houses are using, and frankly they're horrendous. It's always disappointing when expensive discovery sets use this type of vial, I wish they had used the same vials as the ones in Bortnikoff's discovery set.

Here is my thought Balsamic, chocolatey, and creamy with a soft animalic nuance. The oud is smooth and woody, supported by ambery undertones. There's also a subtle salty-savory tinge in the background. 22 minutes in: Balsamic notes blend with creamy chocolate and amber. A soft animalic touch appears, lightly accented with a hint of supple leather. A gentle veil of smoke surrounds the composition. 45 minutes in: Balsamic and amber tones come forward, mingled with musky, chocolatey creaminess and a soft leather nuance. A smooth spicy-floral element begins to show. 1 hour 13 minutes: Chocolatey, creamy, spicy, and softly animalic with floral notes. The oud is smooth and mellow, resting on a warm amber base. --- Personal Notes: The creamy chocolate-like musk is delicious. The balsamic note takes over for a moment, slightly disrupting the main tone. Once it settles, the scent smooths out beautifully.

A very well balanced Oud scent along the lines of a Bortnikoff Lao Oud or Xerjoff Malesia but is blended very very well, I don’t really pick up much of a musk or many other notes for that matter but is more so a balanced out Oud that doesn’t smell too much of anything although it is a touch on the light side despite being long lasting

The oud did not come through to my nose as much as I would have expected it to. It is definietly smooth fruity musky but it lacks that last push to make it feel 3D. This is an easy wear, nice ingredients also.

Musk Couture opens deeply browned, liquored, and dense with furry musks, and then within minutes develops an odd raspberry syrup note. It feels a bit like the fruit-liqueur filling inside a chocolate. Then it softens to something peachy and fuzzy and extremely sweet. I don't know quite how to say this: the sugary sweetness and musky softness produce an overwhelming effect. Sexy, to the point of vulgar. Mae West. Burlesque shows. We've gone honky-tonkin' all night long and ended up in the cathouse. Under the fruity sweetness, I can now feel a bunch of twangy brown tobacco coming to the fore. It blends smoothly with the fuzzy musks and sugary white sweetness, leaving an overall sweet/fuzzy/brown aura with an overripe or raunchy vibe. This is a truly wacky choice. Maksim Bortnikov is clearly going for a serious, elite, and rather masculine aesthetic; but here he's giving his usual luxe, dense treatment to an insanely trashy, and quite femme, sugar/fruit/musk concoction. It's not something I'd ever pick out to wear, but I'm impressed. It's amazing that something so sugary-sweet on top can balance a big, brown tobacco/oudh/resin base, but it all kinda comes together. It's intense, but it's fun in its way.

Lo que más me llama la atención es la materia prima y el color. Pero sobre todo las facetas texturizadas Un comienzo fresco, exótico y tropical, rápidamente superado por una faceta más dulce y afrutada. Un torbellino de delicias te recibirá con mucho gusto, pero ten por seguro que ¡nunca se sentirá demasiado fuerte ni agobiante! Lichi tailandés jugoso y frambuesa , de ahí el dulce y el ácido. Encontrarás un cierto lado ligeramente ácido. Probablemente esto es lo que le permite ofrecer una frescura cautivadora manteniendo al mismo tiempo un carácter gourmet. Hierba fresca recién cortada y la profunda serenidad de la camomilla romana. Tres tipos de tabaco : nicaragüense, Virginia y turco. El resultado es potente, profundo, rico y complejo, con matices amaderados, coriáceos y melosos. Aportar carácter, sofisticación y sensualidad a la fragancia, evocando una atmósfera cálida y envolvente, con elementos terrosos, especiados y amaderados. Matices que recuerdan el heno, la ciruela pasa y un tanto animal - Ylang Ylang de la isla de Java, lo encuentro único, complejo, desenfrenado, hipnótico, muy colorido, solar y exótico. Esta nota me traslada a una naturaleza exuberante y embriagadora. La madera de Gaïac nos introduce en lo que será un fondo precioso y potente y la Nagarmotha sigue la serenidad que dejo la camomilla. Llegamos al fondo indescriptible de lo potente y brillante que es. Un velo de Almizcle siberiano me trae misterio, pulcritud y luz Un Oud indio natural procedente de árboles de los antiguos bosques de la India, confiere al perfume una textura espesa y oleosa, de color marrón verdoso con aromas profundos, muy aromática y cálida. Un aroma amaderado con notas de cuero calentado, vegetación tropical. Viene envuelto en musgo de roble que aporta una inmensa virilidad al perfume. @parfumez_moi en Instagram

Opens like a bit of both Sayat Nova and Lao Oud by Bortnikoff... Ends similarly... Musk doesn't stand out prominently as does the oud...
