Vetiver

Thought I’d best write something here for MG Vetiver, not long joined F and this is a beautiful Unisex multifaceted scent, a top 5 of mine all day long. Totally underrated from the lack of inputs on this thread. What a beauty this is, Opens with a zesty Organic Citrus (take your pick O/G/L) blast... Unique to my nose, nothing smells like this in my experience although It does remind me a tad of the vintage YSL Pour Homme (discontinued long ago and rock hard to find now... will cost you one big ¥£$!!! If you do!. Was my very first purchase in 87 at the start of this journey (apart from my mums nail varnish remover in 75!) They share Similar depth but MG V exhibits more smoke and leather with a slightly sweet edge at the top. Ticks every box this one. I’m getting a bitter sweet Lime that morphs competently with the Vetiver and smoky woods, Mild Spices and leather hold it together nicely... no synthetic formulations here. To me, completely Unisex and I can wear this any time of the day/night/year. Great performance and projects very well on my skin and has received untold compliments from both sexes. On my third bottle now. Go figure. If in doubt, go for it! In most cases we only regret things we don’t do. Enjoy!! MG V 9.9/10... nothing’s perfect!!!

I received this as a random sample, so I wasn't expecting much, but right from the first try it's impressed me. On the whole, it's a very well done vetiver-centric fragrance that uses a handful of supporting players to really emphasize the natural warmth of the central vetiver note. The composition is simple without being minimalistic--vetiver is front and center but not standing alone. So, as you might expect, you're going to get an intense vetiver theme throughout, starting strong from the opening. It's also in the opening that the bergamot is most noticeable, and it's a nice refreshing combination to start out. That bergamot note sustains quite well during wear, but less assertively over time. It's also with some wear that the woody/amber character of the scent comes to the fore. I like amber-vetiver as an darker chord for wearing on a night out, but here it's done gently enough (and in combination with citrus) that it could work all day. This fragrance stays around a solid 5-6 hours with projection within arm's length or so.

this fragrance is so special. this smells like the smile of the beautiful boy you fell in love with in the summer. its a warm afternoon, breeze in your hair, while you drive thru a citrus orchard. it’s a very happy scent. nothing offensive, yet quite unique. the celery seed, iris, and mandarin blend so well together while the amber adds this very bright sweetness. its sort of green and sweet in a sexy candy sort of way. the cardamom and wood add the earthy greenness that is the basis for the scent. i sense maybe a bit of iso-e super in there as well. it’s a bit reminiscent of santal 33 but in a way thats much younger and doesnt take itself so seriously. i would argue that there is no vetiver in here and i’m not mad about it at all. this stuff seriously smells super good and will get you lots of compliments. sadly it doesnt last or project very much ;( i’d love to discover something that smells exactly like this with much better performance

I'm in love. Vetiver is like You by Glossier for men in that it is an attractive, clean, easy-to-wear scent (I know both are technically unisex, but you get my point). Vetiver doesn't necessarily smell like You, but they give off similar vibes and serve similar purposes. It's a bit too masculine for me to wear, but I'd love to smell it on a guy. I'm impressed with the longevity. I sprayed this on at night before bed and can still smell it this morning. I REALLY love to sleep, guys; most of my fragrances disappear by the time I wake up. Many other reviews call this boring; I think simple is a better word. Often, keeping it simple is the way to go. Also, this scent is just plain sexy, so who cares if it's simple, it works.

This smells just like one of Speed Stick's deodorants (can't remember which one). But it's still very good! Fresh yet cozy, kind of sporty, masculine but not too mature. It's definitely a go-to scent and I like it very much, even though the comparison to a deodorant might seem diminishing. Also personally I can't single out any of the notes I see on here when smelling it.

I smell lots of ginger. There is something in this that makes this fragrance extremely easy to wear, the vetiver is very soft and clean (Haitian vetiver type is very clean) some warmth provided by the amber and the dry down is the most pillowy woodiness I have ever experienced. The lasting power isn’t that great but I spray liberally on clothing to extends its life.

Now, this was a big surprise. I had big hopes for Strawberry and zero interest in Vetiver. Yet thing turned differently. Vetiver is so fresh, enticing and luminous. The dryness of the vetiver is always there but it’s washed with the zing of the citrus, the subtle delicacy of the Iris and the creamy cardamom. I truly enjoy wearing it.

I really like the smell, it's more akin to aromatherapy than perfume. Relaxing, warm and aromatic. It's vetiver Moloko's younger sister. Mildly spiced dry aromatic vetiver, theres a lovely herbal quality to it that I really like too. Great comforting scent, Id get it for daily use at home:)

Lacking complexity, this fragrance does not possess a rich depth as one might expect. It exudes a pleasant aroma, suitable for everyday wear. While not particularly airy, it does fall short in terms of fullness. Nevertheless, it remains a pleasant option for wearing.

This fragrance is clean and smoky at the same time, which I find really interesting and unique. I'd say it's pretty unisex, but slightly more masculine leaning. Starts off cirtusy, but dries down woody and smoky.

Very clean woods, with some slight citrus. This smells very different on skin vs. clothes. On skin, it's more grassy and woody. But on clothes, it's almost maple syrupy with incense too.

A very very VERY safe vetiver. Smells nothing like DS Durga St.Vetyver which is miles better and more complex than this. Lots of citrus on my skin.When the vetiver arrives it's faint and lacks punch. No roots to my nose, and even the very slight earthiness is whitewashed with carrot seed and synthetic fixatives. Disappointing effort for a vetiver scent. It's like a vetiver frag for people that hate smelling real vetiver in all of it's glory. I don't dispise it, but I wouldn't buy it, and I wouldn't wear it if it was given to me as a gift because it's terribly mundane. Office safe. A faint touch of smoke from the guaiac wood that keeps me from slipping into a coma 😴 Scent 3.5/10 Performance 6/10

A woody, lemon, cardamom, iris, very light scent. Smells way more citrusy and iris like than vetiver or woody, or earthy on my skin. Sadly, as with most Malin+Goetz fragrances it’s almost instantly a skin scent, so no point buying it when it performs as an eau de cologne! It’s truly natural smelling, so very close to how the citruses smells when you hold them in your hand and smell them but you won’t get much wear out of this scent. It’s nice but not worth the money. I find this brand overall so overpriced for the lack of the longevity of their perfumes. They smell realistic based on the concept of each perfume in most cases, but they’re gone in no time...

while vetiver by malin+goetz doesn’t develop much, and can be a bit “one note,” i don’t find that too offensive because it’s just spicy enough and just citrusy/fresh enough to be appealing to me. i can see why it might not work for some, but i think it smells delicious and attractive; when layered with other malin+goetz scents (a la mixing and matching the sample set) i think the scents work to complex each other in a way that works nicely for me. while i wouldn’t buy a full size of this, i think it would do nicely for layering, and i think the slightly-masculine sweetness is just pretty fun.

I love what I smell, it's just that I can hardly smell it. Not sure if I'm anosmic or what. The whiff I do get is of a faint earthy vetiver that's balanced out by some very light citrus without being too sweet. It's a vetiver fragrance that anyone can pull off. However, it's so subtle that it's disappointing. If anyone is aware of a similar fragrance with a little more intensity (without being too intense and masculine), please let me know!

I really like this. Earthy, grassy, woody, truly a scent of nature, feels very authentic. Good as a pre work-out and after shower. Spicy and fresh. Similar to the brand's Cannabis. I own a small size tester, probably going to use all of it but I am not in love with this scent that much to purchase the full size (I will probably rather spend that money on Leather and Dark Rum :)).

I’m into this one! The scent is refreshing, woodsy, and a little sensual all at once. Definitely unisex, more clean vibes than perfume vibes, which I feel like gives it the “boring” or “simple” rep, but sometimes that’s good! Sometimes I’m in the mood for that linear, no nonsense, ol’ reliable fragrance.

Opens very clean and citrusy, then comes some warmth and the woods. The vetiver is there but it is very light. I get a bit of spice on the dry down which is fresh and nice. This isn't an intense scent. Sunny and easy. A girl I want to spend time with but would never fall in love with.

Very very light fresh earthy citrus scent. Not a lot of substance to it.

I write my reviews for my own future reference, and test blindly, not researching or looking up the name, notes, etc. (as best I can in this case) till writing down my first impressions. Opens up smokey, with a hint of green, but mostly projects a familiar char-grilled poultry scent, where the essence of the wood chips are impregnated into the crispy skin. I'm testing these blindly, and there are only six, so I assumed at first this is the leather one? Nope, it's the Vetiver one, so what I thought was incense, tobacco, or leathery aspects hanging out in the background is more a figment of my imagination. Wearing it a second time, I still get the delicious, mouth-watering smoke. Later, the initial pit fire calms and some faint dark green notes do surface, but barely. Looking at the suggested notes, you could argue there is a tad of cardamom, but I'm not getting much of the citruses, which given how smokey this is would be welcoming and round it out. Or, maybe it is the citrus that combined makes it tasty and appetizing. Iris simply is non-existent. It is definitely a vetiver forward fragrance. I can understand the perception that this must be a masculine fragrance, but there's nothing specifically masculine about it. Presence of smoke isn't masculine. There's something about it, but I'm afraid it's because it stimulates my stomach more than my olfactory desires.

peppery, dusty, and woody with a grassy herbal greenness in the background. i don't get any of the citrus aromas and this comes across as distinctly savory or even bitter. the woodiness is pleasant enough but it's either the celery seed or the vetiver itself that has a sharpness i definitely do not like. i haven't smelled enough vetiver to know if that's the issue, it seems like it's a rather divisive scent

This fragrance opens really nicely - with lovely, rounded vetiver, bergamot and grapefruit. It is earthy, slithy salty and fresh at this point. However, after about 20 minutes the cardamon appears and ruins the whole show. It eventually settles into smelling like a cardamon soap. Unisex, moderate longevity, intimate sillage

dry grass, spice, and lemon. if you life that kind of thing you'll really like this. kind of burns my nose and seems potentially headache inducing. edit -- the dry down to this really smells like the yellow marker from the crayola scented marker set.

like wet grass, kinda reminds me of when I walk around my backyard on a summer night, barefoot damp grass. as far as the 2 vetiver scents I've tried, I prefer Juliette's, it's fresher and more citrusy.

Light aromatic citrus fragrance. Vetiver? Where? Ok....maybe a subtle support, but this one is definitely not a vetiver-centered fragrance (I own 25 vetiver fragrances...). A good feminine dumb reach for hot Summer days, but nothing to loose sleep about. A pass for me on the whole line of M+G.

This is the most synthetic smelling fragrance I own. Extremely sharp and chemical smelling, I’m not sure what they were going for but pleasant smelling was not it. This smells like rubbing alcohol, bergamot and incense. Big disappointment considering how amazing the note breakdown is...

I just tested Vetiver Bourbon and had such a positive vetiver experience that I thought I'd see if I could go two for two. M+G's Vetiver open with vetiver and lime (officially, cardamom and other citrus, but that rang up as 'lime' for me). Basically those are the two dominating notes, everything else is faint shadows in the background. In both cases, what makes these good vetiver scents is there are no other dominant notes to compare and compete with the vetiver ('lime' is fine). Vetiver as a background note is important in many complex fragrances, but when it takes the lead it seem to work best (mostly) alone. I'm really liking this. Indeed, it is two for two positive vetiver-centric reviews. Basically, this and Vetiver Bourbon could easily be two flankers in the same line: one with citrus, the other without. Of course, citrus notes do strongly change the scent profile, but as they are so distinct from vetiver and ubiquitous in colognes, they remain a compatible 'co-star' to vetiver's sometimes bitter moodiness, bringing the fragrance to a place about halfway between earthy and fresh.

Individual notes whisper rather than shout here. M+G's Vetiver is just a nice green, fresh melange of notes that seamlessly fit together. It's certainly citrus heavy, but also gently spiced, a bit floral, and a bit woody. Vetiver is definitely there, and it would be a good scent for those who don't like its more pungently grassy aspects. All of the rough edges have been smoothed down into a softy verdant cloud of scent,, like an impressionist painting of a natural landscape. Malin + Goetz excels at high quality work-safe scents. It's tailor made for millennials who work for trendy startups in communal workspaces. To expect anything more ambitious or interesting than that would be to misconstrue their particular niche. Vetiver is perfectly comfortable and pleasing.

Attractive, clean, airy vetiver scent. More complex than you might think at first spray. I am pleasantly surprised by this vetiver, which alternates between citrus-y, nutty, creamy, smoky, earthy, and woody facets. The iris gives M+G Vetiver a very sophisticated touch, while remaining perfectly suitable for daily wear. There's also a tiny little bit of soapiness, as well as a touch of "molecular fragrance" about it. Very unisex, as far as vetivers go. With notes of cardamom, iris, amber, and vetiver, I am again reminded of Dior Homme. This is not a dupe or homage in any way. But after I made the connection in my mind, it was impossible to un-smell it. Quite nice!

Obsessed. I love a vetiver scent, and this one after about 5 minutes becomes the most delicious, creamy, calming, comforting, woodsy vetiver. I get a sharp spice-smoke combination in the top notes and then it goes powdery. I love a woody scent, and genuinely don't mind a powdery accord (i'm guessing it's the iris in this). It smells like aftershave on salty, sunset skin, maybe even a little sweaty. I love it. It doesn't last long unfortunately. On my skin it pulls mostly powdery in the dry down, so it is truly unisex, but I would equally love to smell it on a man. This is probably the safest of this brand's offerings.

This is a creamy sandalwood swimming in an ocean of iso-E-super and laced sparingly with tiny hints of vetiver. This is by no means dry, aromatic and deep like a vetiver centric perfume; nor is it a fruity tarte vetiver like Bal d'Afrique. It's just a lot of iso-E-super. Longevity is reasonable 4hrs approximately. Not too impressed with the performance of the entire M&G line. This is my favourite from the brand. It's beautiful and elegant. But for the pricetag, it leaves something more soulful to be desired.

This fragrance just makes so much sense. I'm admittedly a vetiver lover, but seemingly so is everyone else - the amount of people who speak to me about this fragrance is wild - especially given some fragrances i have in my collection cost 3 or 4 times the price i paid for this and don't get anywhere near the same attention. It's that perfect blend of soapy but earthy, and i have been blending with a spritz of original acqua di parma's colonia. A great vetiver combo in the cold english winter.

Often fragrances with Vetiver will go in a masculine direction on my skin. What’s notable from this Malin’s offering, is that Vetiver is perfectly unisex. Initially I thought I smelled something sweet and creamy, like a drop of vanilla, but I think it’s the guaiac woodnote. I like the additions of cardamom and the mixture of citrus notes, projecting a quiet, etherial calmness. Some reviewers find this a bit boring—and I’m not a vetiver expert—but I like it because it’s not challenging.

I want to be nice but there is literally nothing special about this scent. It’s like if ChatGPT tried their hand at making a vetiver fragrance. When I tried it in store I was desperate for a new scent (I needed to get away from Acqua Di Gio as I am not 14 years old) and figured why not. It smells nice enough the first couple sniffs, but the more I wore it the more it just smelled like alcohol. Buy this if you are extremely boring with money to blow.

You feel a slight, light vetiver for few seconds, but this is simply a soft citrus scent that gives a nice clean feeling. I could detect musk aroma-chemicals which are not listed as notes as well as Iso-E. It is more feminine than masculine, but in hot summer days if a guy wants to feel clean with a white-T, why not. Longevity is 5-6 hours, with low projection. With 100-150 euro price tag, not recommended.

Vetiver and orange juice. The orange makes the vetiver smell more fresh and less dirty. I can see this fragrance being universally pleasing. It is just a tad boring for me tho.

I liked this one, would have loved a solinote but should have guessed there were other notes in the mix. Smells clean but a little jumbled and the lasting power is low.

I sprayed this on my husband in a shop. Such a gentle sort of vertiver, nothing too manly, just easy on the nose. I liked it.

smells like a getting a vodka soda at a bar. i kind of hate it but love it... makes me want to wear more perfume like this...

Most perfumes from this brand disappear from skin when sprayed on a hot summer day, longevity is minimal, except dark rum.
