Hoz

HOZ is a trip. A mind-#$*&. How in the world does this perfume only have two materials in it?! It fits with what I have gleaned so far as Mallo's and Lasheras's modus operandi: a minimalist approach with a minimalist number of materials that have an extraordinary amount of detail. Vanuatu sandalwood and Trat Thai oud. That's it. The result? Quiet and fruity florals, silky and unctuous cream, balsam sawdust, sticky amberic resins, mature leather, rich black earth, dark and oily woods, a brief blast of piney lemon in the opening, smooth and fragrant incense smoke, clear and harmonic high notes, full and robust mids, rumbling basses, a breadth with an expanse to rival a desert, and a depth to rival the ocean... I'm stunned. Anthony Bourdain said it best, "The guiding principle is you have three or four good ingredients, and the most important thing is to just not screw them up." As it is with culinary arts, so it is with the art of perfumery. Lasheras has proven to me many times so far that he knows a great material when he smells it, and therefore his job is to simply not screw it up. Present them as they are; let them do the talking, just provide them with a platform to do so. Where his talent comes in is making sure that they are in impeccable proportion to each other, which he achieves - and sure, that could be said of every perfumer's "job", but Lasheras's effort is made more obvious by the sublime nature of the sandalwood and oud than it is with another perfumer using aroma chems or average (or sub average) naturals. Lasheras would later tempt screwing it up by using HOZ as the base with which to build INK (INKSH), but, of course, he didn't screw that up either; it ended up being gorgeous as well. I have no other words. Laying on more superlatives would be pointless since none will be sufficient. There is not a single thing I would change or wish to be different in this perfume.

This has a good oud with an explosive, sparkling, medicinal, citrusy and woody aromatic beginning with undertones reminiscent of rosemary, grapefruit, ginger and citrus peels. A sour, spicy but pleasant smoke, slightly animalic of leather that lies straight on a bed of compact sandalwood, slowly drying into a powder full of incense. Dense, resinous and peppery. As a combination and vibes this reminded me a little of Prayer from Trnp. Dark, mature and masculine. Elegance .. "dirty". Shady!

Lovely earthy woody aromatic from this new Spanish niche brand. The scent is mostly a combination of high quality Thai Oud and Australian sandalwood but also contains wisps of incense and leather. The overall effect is like entering an old church or temple. The masculine leaning scent has moderate projection and good longevity. An evocative and mysterious scent. Enjoy!
