Amber & Roses

I LOVE this! I have been collecting perfume (mainstream at first and now moving towards better quality brands) and I am still stuck on Stella and Chloe. Of all the beautiful scents that I own, those are the two I love the most. I have been consistently looking for a dupe for Stella (perhaps in the niche market maybe), but a scent that also has better projection and longevity. I think this is one of the dupes. So far I have found this one, Lady Vengeance, Montale Night and Spirituelle. Now to also start looking for frags similar to Chloe EDT or EDP that are unknown to me so far. This is a very fun project! This was a blind buy and if you like the older Stella or Stella Rose Absolute Intense, you will love this too.

This is a perfect May Grey / June Gloom floral fragrance. It brings to mind an expensive and expansive cemetery in Los Angeles; quiet mid-afternoon, the clouds hanging low over the hills, the air is damp, a florist is making bouquets of roses. Turning up a driveway lined with blue hydrangeas, the AC on cool, the music down low. A man in a suit directs you to your destination. An ever so slightly chemical smell reaches through the earthy mist and reminds you that this place is not wholly natural. Smells like Lana Del Rey - Bel Air Not overly sweet, and just the right amount of amber. Peaceful, quiet and refreshing.

This is a very dry but also powdery-sweet rose on a heavy bed of incense, even with a dose of patchouli and synthetic oud that appear after about an hour. No amber to my nose, but perhaps a bit of musk. My favorite type of rose, Damascus rose - not jammy, not green, not mamby-pamby run-of-the-mill rose, but dignified and lovely. I sprayed it on and...instant love, because it reminds me of my precious Rose Nacree du Desert, but comes in a bigger bottle at a better price!

I really like this! I do get the ‘graveyard’ vibe that others have described but it’s nowhere near as prominent as I expected. This is predominantly a rose perfume. There is definitely an earthy smell and a surprisingly strong lemon note. To me it smells like being in a garden after the rain, with the scent of damp earth, blooming rose bushes, and ripe citrus trees. There’s also an addictive warm/musky scent that comes through after a few hours. Really nice.

I don’t really get the hate this gets. I guess if you expected this to be a pretty and sweet rose I could understand the disappointment, but to me this is a great scent. It has a layer of mystery to it. I get the whole dark rose vibe some people say this has. The picture this one brings to mind is sitting at an old library next to an open window during a thunderstorm with a dusty old book in hand and a dozen fresh roses sitting at the table with you.

beautiful, delicate but strong/long-lasting perfume. A little different from the rest of Mancera's line, at least from what i've seen. it smells like a rose garden after the rain, but has some mossy undertones to it and i think it's just really feminine and earthy smelling. i got compliments from a guy on this. i find that sometimes mancera's can be really overpowering, but this one isn't. i really recommend it.

Deliciously sweet (the rose) and salty (don’t know). Also dry and... metallic (?) Smells masculine, in a warm, kind & tender way. For some reason I am reminded of old CK Eternity on men whose skin chemistry worked well with it. I could wear it myself as a mature woman, but something about the juxtaposition makes more sense for a male wearer, tho it’d have to be a confident one.

I'll tell it straight; I blind-bought this based on "wet rose/graveyard dirt", "vampire" and "Lebanon Hanover and Bram Stoker's Dracula" comparisons and I do not regret it! Melancholic, gloomy and romantic goth. Jammy rose with a honey touch. On my skin, it is not loud, and the longevity is OK. If Twin Tribes' song "Upir" was a perfume, it would be Mancera's Amber&Roses.

I don't understand the reviews. I really don't know why people were expecting it to be gothic? The name literally says amber and roses. It's an amazing rose fragrance. I think one of the best rose scent out there. It is very feminine and seductive.

I am always looking for something that resembles Stella Rose Absolute Intense. I LOVED it while it lasted. That rose/amber mix was beautiful. Does anyone know if this is at all similar? Thanks.

Mancera never disappoint me. Again this my blind buy it's very misterious secnt. And this 100% unisex. This only for my experience Nose blind issue hope it's work next time we'll

Amazing fragrance and one of my favorites, but beware!!!! Any more than 2 sprays you will be knocking people out. 10/10 longevity 12 hours plus 10/10 sillage the whole room

What a weirdo! When reviewing Pierre Montale rose fragrances, I tend to base my experiences on Montale's Black Aoud. It's a useful heuristic, given that that fragrance has the absolute loudest version of his rose accord. Using that metric, Amber & Roses is quieter, muskier, earthier, and more mysterious. It's as though you've covered the honey-dripping, jam-covered rose in fertile (albeit dry) loam. There's a slight fecal (rotting?) sharpness that I find interesting but is, from an "objective" standpoint, unpleasant. I like it, I think it's well-layered and poetic, but I like the smell of musty dirt and hardware stores. Many reviewers call this "gothic" (that's what led me here), and as an avowed goth I think it depends strongly on your definition. This is Lestat in the epilogue of Interview with the Vampire, when he's rotting in a hideous house full of mangy cats. This is the vampire as less-than-human. This is decay. The other side of the gothic--the allure which lures one into Udolpho's castle, which lures you into the vampire's clutches, is not so much present here, although the moderately more toned-down version of the Montale rose suggests it.

Edited to add: I have just discovered with my bottle of Ajmal Oath that the need to let some bottles sit for several months is a real thing and not based on bogus hype. As a result, I have sprayed my bottle of Amber & Roses a few more times and will retest it in a few months to see if the sharp note has died down. Original review: I was sure this fragrance was going to be a slam dunk for me, so I bought it blindly, but the musk note in Amber & Roses is extremely sharp on my skin chemistry, to the point that it overtakes all the other notes and even competes with the rose! I have previously experienced the same piercing musk note in Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Oriental Musk and Ajmal Oath (for women), so this tells me it’s likely an issue between my personal skin chemistry and the specific musk aroma-chemical that’s being used, especially since other reviewers don’t seem to be having the same experience with this scent that I am. I will let my bottle sit for a while and come back to it later. Hopefully some additional time in my perfume closet, or a change in seasons, or a shift in hormones will bring me better results with this scent.🤞🏻

Amber & Roses are not a typical sweetheavy amber-bomb. This one is strict and dry with no sweet notes at all. I like it alot. Absolute unisex. The musk and Labdanum dances around - but a bit shy, I must say. To my nose this is warm, dark, unsweet rose with a hint of strict amber, musk and labdanum. 1 spray goes a long way and you will smell gorgeous for many hours. 3 spray's and this is a roomkiller in an awful way. Absolute worth trying! Amber & Roses är inte en typisk söt-tung amber-bomb. Denna är strikt och torr utan söta noter. Gillar den skarpt och absolut unisex. Musk och Labdanum finns men man får leta lite efter dem tyvärr. För mig är detta en varm, mörk, osöt Ros med en hint av strikt och proper Amber med en dutt Musk och Labdanum. 1 sprej räcker länge och du doftar fantastiskt. 3 sprej och det blir en römsdödare. Prova den.

Dank rose musk. Subtle. Earthy and dirty. Crappy honey note in the background. Like someone smeared honey on a mound of soil and mixed it into a melted amber accord. Leans slightly femme. This one is for goth girls. Kinda hot 🥵 but not great.

A full-bodied rose with soothing amber which results in a rich and dense scent with a more feminine character. The amber takes over the composition after the hour mark.

Not sure what I can add that has not yet already been written, or stated about this perfume/fragrance. Very disappointing. To my nose, I detect ZERO gothic notes, or dark nuances. Nothing animalic, no dirt, zero darkness. On my skin, Amber & Roses performs as a straight-up, aquatic, aldehydic, rose-forward fragrance. Lands all dewy roses with a thin amber base. And I find the fragrance EXTREMELY OILY upon application. My current "dark" rose fragrance love is Memo Paris "African Rose." African Rose, in my opinion is THE vampire-gothic-rose fragrance to die for. This stuff is a serious no.

I’ve only sprayed this a couple of times - I had high hopes...but there’s an absolutely boggin’ note in here. Like, really not nice. I was hoping for dark, witchy seduction but oh god no. An element of this smells like bad breath or like sour tea or something...ripe, medicinal, rotting? I’ll try layering it with something to see if it takes the edge off. On the plus side, the performance is excellent! Edit: when this is layered and then sniffed up close, I get a very clear note of good ol’ 90’s prank fart spray that I will never be able to unsmell. I’ll never get through 120ml of this so eBay it is!

I could have sworn this had honey as a note. The opening is very green-like garden green musk to me and I didn’t enjoy it. The opening is different but the dry down It’s very sweet and not unique. It’s smells like a mix of other Manceras. Not for me. I love roses greedy, Roses vanille to name a few. I got a headache lol very strong and more masculine to my nose.

It is a big NO for me!! I was expecting amber-rose combo to be somewhat similar to rose-oud combo but unfortunately, they are very different. If rose-oud combo is Mona Lisa, this would definitely be Dracula. I guess it is never a good idea to mix amber with roses. Spend your money on something better! Scent: 3/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 8/10

It reminds me of Indonesia and when you walk into the slums there with some shit slums smell and the tropical jungle vibe Every time I smelt the strip I laughed how bad it was Not a perfume I would wear but a perfume I would smell to get a quick laugh of how bad it is

Opens like dirt and settles into a cheap whiskey scent, red label to be exact. Disappointing Bonus : now that I read the comment below me i can see the gothic feel in this fragrance but it's still a no to me.

Not the best rose by this brand with amber.

I love the Manceras I do own (WIld Python, Roses Vanille, Vanille Exclusif), but this is really gross! It reminds me of a childhood memory I have. I was in elementary school and at the height of my cowgirl obsession. I wore my cowgirl boots (with spurs) that day. We were enjoying recess on the concrete blacktop outside and jumping double-dutch. It had recently rained, so it was a bit slick on that blacktop. I slipped while jumping and skinned the heck outta my knee. Well, this fragrance smells just like the unhealed wound that was revealed upon removing my bandage to change it, plus the medicinal scent of the bandage itself. I know it’s gross, but this instantly transported me back to that incident. P.S. I thought maybe I received a bad vial from FragranceNet, or maybe it’s just my particular nose. I’ve had 3 other people smell this without warning, and they were all equally repulsed. Just saying.

I've just received this (blind buy to be fair), one spray on my wrist and it was more than enough to make me feel sick...I've never experienced anything of the sort with any perfume before, it is a big disappointment for me, definitely not blind buy safe and, as several reviews mentioned, you WILL be knocking people out with more than 1-2 sprays. Can possibly be used as some sort of weapon 😂

Horrible animalic labdanum. Omg this is really bad, with patchuili, almost a corpse scented earth...

Amber & Roses opens with a pleasant (and pleasantly transparent) green-geranium accord, bitter and fresh, which then segues into a fascinating progression: Turkish rose, sweet and a little jammy but restrained by the continued presence of the bitter-earthy geranium, blended closely with an aquatic-leaning Ambroxan, ending on an ambery incense and slightly animalic honey, with silvery and golden facets that complement the synthetic ambergris tones. The Ambroxan is the same quality as the stuff Armaf uses in its Club de Nuit line, so it's very good but not the higher level Cetalox, Ambrofix, or Ambrox Super, but I think this works in Mancera's favor here because their chosen material possesses a slightly metallic edge, and it works with the rose and incense. Where does the formula budget go? Mostly into the geranium/rose/incense accords. These materials smell expensive, especially the rose, which is lilting, sweet, balanced, and fairly realistic. It hangs in my nose after I get a whiff and it's fantastic. The incense also smells interesting, flitting in and out of perceptibility, very tightly blended in with the florals. I don't get any jasmine but I suppose there could be some tiny fraction of absolute in here to bolster the rose's headiness. How does this all translate? Well, Amber & Roses isn't going to win any awards for originality, as this sort of woody-fresh rose has been done trillions of times before at all different price points, but I am thoroughly blown away by the quality of this fragrance. I recently watched Marc Robes's review of it on YouTube, and it's clear he's gatekeeping Amber & Roses, because there's no way he could smell this stuff and hate it (as he claims to) unless his sniffer is permanently altered by Covid or something. And you know what? If he's gatekeeping this perfume, I get why. I wouldn't want this to get sold out across grey market discounters, either. It's that good. Now, I've also seen a ton of reviews here and elsewhere claiming this is a "Goth" rose with Dracula vibes. My take: Eh . . . Davidoff's Zino is more "Goth" than this—it's burlier, darker, scarier in its snarly patchouli—but Amber & Roses smells very romantic and mature to me, like a bouquet of roses in the garden of a cathedral by the sea. This is 2000s Creed level good, and loosely reminds me of their 2000 mainstream release of Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare. Good job, Mr. Montale, and thank you for offering an incredible alternative to all the syrupy-sweet crap.

Dude, All I get is a fresh green and wet rose and graveyard dirt with a touch of honey that steals the show after a while. I really like this. It smells enchanted and macabre like a vampire crawling from the grave. It should be renamed "Undead Love". I like it. It has this sinister and gorhic vibe. Very earthy and the rose in it is pretty. Takes a certain someone to like it. I love it personally but it is not a safe blind buy. I like the freshness and earthi ess of it a lot. It lasts about 8-10h on me and projects moderetely. It is good quality!

Mostly a dewy rose and musk with no amber or lemon to speak of. There could be a touch of jasmine buried somewhere. Don't smell it up close or you'll be greeted with a gross chemical scent, but the projecting fragrance is nice. Of course Amber & Roses has the typical Mancera longevity and sillage so go easy on the application. As far as Mancera rose fragrances go it's not bad but I personally prefer Roses Vanille.

Immefiately made me think about lusic of Lebanon Hanover and Bram Stoker's Dracula so was sold from the moment. I love macabre and somber things like that. Should be called ambergris and roses, or musk roses. There’s no resin type amber here, it’s very much a molecule ‘amber’. Incense? Oud? Smoke? None. It’s ambrinol which is synthetic ambergris and very earthy. In my opinion this is light. It’s like Al Rehabs White Musk with added rose. Very synthetic musk and light rose.

This is a lovely fragrance and although it starts strong, it dries down to a skin scent on me. This would be at the top of my want list if it had a more pronounced hang time on me, but my hand usually reaches for one that will be fairly strong the whole way through. Your mileage may vary. Very pretty, but not for me.

This is very potent. The amber is very smoky, actually it smells almost like oud. Probably this has oud like most Montales and Mancera perfumes. The rose is gothic and hidden behind the dense amber/oud/incense cloud. Not a happy scent. Not a sexy scent. Melancholic? yes Misterious? yes. Not blind buy safe. Unisex.

Hate at first sniff! Horrible smelling fragrance. Can't even compare it to anything out there. Smells like a weird-smelling balm your grandma would use to cure a non-malignant ailment. Wonder what people enjoy about this. Only good thing about it is performance...BEAST. Sadly, the wrong kind of beast.

I don't know why this is getting so many dislikes and negative reviews. It's pretty much like Intense Roses Musk, almost an exact dupe. I think it's a safe blind buy if you like Montale's roses in general. I really like it, it's a perfect early spring/autumn rose scent.

Roses and wet earth and dirt - not my thing but I do think it's lovely, for those that enjoy those notes. The rose is a fresh, beautiful, wet rose. Maybe what President Snow smelled like?

Beautiful rose fragrance but beware. Over 2 sprays your killing everyone in the room. 2 sprays is enough and will stay on my skin 14 hours plus. Lovely fragrance 10/10

I love the smell, but the projection is very weak it projects for 6 inches, we kindly ask the Mancera House to fix this problem.

Too rosey for me! Too prominent. Very musky also. This is good for rose lovers, lasts well.
