Iris Pallida

Opens fresh and verdant, a far cry from the bottom-of-the-makeup-bag irises of old. On my skin chemistry, the hazelnut fades fast (sticks well to paper) and the cashmeran, rose, and sandalwood take supporting roles in the sweet, green iris. Woody, green and floral. Absolutely stunning for spring, but may also find its footing in all four seasons. Full bottle worthy. This sits close to the skin.

The best part is the opening. The Iris smells so natural and appealing. The scent leans dry, but not overly so. The dry down is a let down. It smells designer-like and predictable - Ambroxan heavy, sandalwood and patchouli. Overall, the scent is *way* too simplistic. The overdose of Ambroxan is a complete turn off for me.

I bought the MARIEJEANNE discovery set and this one was the perfume I was the most interested in, as I love Iris. When I first smelled it, I hated the scent. It almost made me want to gag. But then, I tried it again and I think that my nose has gotten used to the scent, to the point that I've become addicted to it and will purchase a full bottle. It opens up with a very floral scent mixed with (A LOT) of hazelnut. It reminds me of Kinder Bueno (I know, that's very specific) but mixed with flowers (iris). It's addicting. But it may be hard for people who don't like very gourmand/sweet scents mixed with floral notes. It's almost as if you are wearing a very heavy floral perfume while eating some Kinder Bueno. It might not be everyone's taste. Unfortunately, on paper, the nutty notes disappear after 2 hours (they are only in the top notes). Then, a beautiful iris scent comes in, it's not very sweet anymore, it's just floral. After 14 hours on paper, a beautiful sandalwood/woody/warm lingers. It's almost like a "masculine" type of scent. Very warm but also pretty faint. I don't really smell the patchouli. I think this perfume is perfect for cold weather and reminds me of Christmas and all the chocolate I eat during that time (beware, it's not chocolate, but the Kinder-Bueno-type of scent makes me think of chocolate haha).
