Marshmallow Muff

I got nervous since I preordered this without smelling it and reviews seemed mixed. Annabel's Birthday Cake is my favorite scent ever, so I was super excited to see a marshmallowy release from MZ. If you are expecting a straight gourmand, ooey gooey super sweet marshmallow, you will be disappointed because that's not what this is and not what this was advertised as. Just like how ABC isn't straight up cake, it's a sophisticated, elevated, -perfumers- take on cake. Apply the same logic here to avoid disappointment. Anyway, to the review- Loved it from first sniff! When I first smelled it, I was taken back to the experience of toasting unsweetened coconut flakes on the stove for a dessert I was making. Even though there is no coconut here, the toastiness and subtle sweetness of this fragrance brought me back to that experience. I don't really think of photorealistic marshmallow when I smell this, it's more a 'nod' to marshmallows and takes from their slight sweetness and powderiness, maybe those more expensive artisan marshmallows that are cut into squares, rather than the very saccharine Jet Puffed variety. I definitely smell toasty sandalwood, powdery orris, and creamy tonka. It's the first fragrance with sandalwood that doesn't turn pickle on me. I wonder if this is because the sandalwood was toasted in some way..? It's moreish - I keep smelling myself. Longevity is good. If you want to up the sweetness, layer it with a simple vanilla or marshmallow fragrance. I also can totally see what @punkkbott said, it does have a hairspray like scent to it, but this is not something that bothers me at all. I think if you enjoy all sorts of cosmetics accords like lipstick, powder, or even lotions, this hairspray aspect will not be a negative at all :)

Smells like a black-and-white film starlet smoking a cigarette in a bubble bath. Like marshmallows, it has a touch of sweetness but isn’t overindulgent. It’s not Love Don’t Be Shy (though I’m a fan of that too). There’s something else there. It’s waking up in the morning with the smell of a wonderful night still on you. It’s a smell I know but can’t place. It’s what I imagine I’d wear if I knew I were going to appear to someone in their dream that night. I couldn’t leave with a full bottle today, only because I can’t afford to this month...but soon.

imo Marshmallow Muff is easily one of Marissa's greatest creations. like with Annabel's Birthday Cake, you're maybe lured in under the notion of a confectionery (cake, marshmallow) but what you find is something entirely different. the ultimate odd gourmand. she said it best: this isn't a treat, it's dinner!

I have it, I love it, but I get more sandalwood than marshmallow. That’s not a problem, but the price.. ma’am, in this economy?! I would buy a back up bottle if it was under two hundies

I got the 7.5 ml travel size of this new release since the full bottle price was intimidating and it's definitely gourmand-lite - evoking the dusty, powdery exterior of a marshmallow from the orris with just a whiff of a toasty, campfire quality. I was thinking the graham cracker note would read like the biscuit accord in Zoologist's Rabbit, but it's not distinctly perceivable to me; likely wrapped up in the faint, musky sweetness that permeates throughout the wear. The base is sandalwood forward which makes it feel pretty unisex and something about the woodiness gives me flashes of hamster cage bedding (a plus in my book to be clear). It sits close to the skin with a longevity of 3-4 hrs, making it an ideal sleep or bed rot fragrance.

ETA: it has turned on my skin. I agree with the reviewer below that says it smells like hairspray. I am not sure what happened but I am still trying to give it a chance. It's beautiful. I get zero marshmallow or smoke. But hey! I do get the graham cracker dust - it's the sweet powdery crumbs left on the place after eating cheesecake. This perfume is sweet but it is not a simple gourmand. This is what I hoped Annabel's Birthday Cake would be. I liked ABC but it wasn't something I wanted on my body. This one sits close to the skin, is lightly sweet and and musky, and just feels comforting and well made. I will be upgrading to a new bottle.

I ended up giving my Luckyscent sample away, so I obviously didn't like it that much, but I will say I do get a lot of the listed notes. It reminds me of Annabel's Birthday Cake in that it seems like an elevated and very subtle gourmand and has Marissa's signature. I think the dustiness reminds me of graham cracker and marshmallow dust, both of which are remarkably "dusty" foods, as well as the natural dustiness of a campsite.

this smells ooey gooey yummy marshmallow on me... I don’t get much smoke out of it but it’s a long-lasting musky marshmallow that’s well-balanced and not cloying. saying this as someone who doesn’t usually like gourmands. the graham cracker dust is more just straight dust on me, but in a cozy way... id get a full bottle of it weren’t so expensive for a fairly simple scent! lasts forever :)

I was positive Marshmallow Muff would be perfect for me, and um... I'm not so sure about that. MZ rarely does me wrong, and maybe this will grow on me... I think the gourmand marshmallow craze has hit a fever pitch and maybe this is MZ's answer to that trend, but it's not exactly what you may expect. To me it smells like an ambrette-heavy sweetness, sandalwood, the faintest hint of smoke (maybe?), and if you think about graham crackers while sniffing your arm, you can catch a whiff. But somehow these seemingly soft notes feel screechy. I can see why many reviews here go so far as to call it hairspray-like. Hard to say if this will become something I enjoy, but it's not an immediate love.

If you asked me to describe this without knowing the marketing, name, or called out notes, I would have said sandalwood and incense. This is strong, and sprayed on the back of my hand, lasted through a hand wash and is still loud. It’s quite vintage, and reminds me of something my aunt used to wear. Definitely NOT blind-buy safe. Don’t expect anything gourmand or marshmallowy from this.

Also completely bewildered by this one. It smells like hair spray? No marshmallow, no graham cracker...

i have no idea what i’m smelling, this is one the first fragrances i’ve tried where it smells absolutely nothing like the notes listed. genuinely bewildered, i’ll have to keep testing it.
