Black Angel

I really love this perfume. It is at the beginning a fresh spicy citrus that settles down to a quiet ginger as "pitbull friend" says. But i also find a mild vanilla note i the base, although vanilla isn ́t found in the fragrance notes. There is nothing "Black" about this perfume, altough i expected it when i bought it. It ́s a light sweet spicy scent - and it is wonderful!

9154mf and Charli both wrote descent and good reviews about this very nice fragrance. Other reviewers are like fallen from the Mars :)

"Black Angel" is all about the zingy top notes for me. I get a wealth of spicy ginger and fresh coriander, with citrus fizzing through like lemonade, over a whisper of jasmine. For some reason, however, on my skin it seems to skip the sparkly opening act and sink straight into the dry woody sweetness of the base notes, where the texture is less 'spicy aromatic' and more warm, almost gourmand, like ginger bread. I assume this is down to body heat? The store owner was even surprised at how different it smelled on my arm, and although she thought my skin "enhanced" it, I rather preferred the quality it had on paper. The longevity and sillage were also quite disappointing, but this may have been down to over exposure (it was the last in a long list of testers). I might try it again with a fresh nose, as it did intrigue me. Definitely a recommend for ginger lovers.

I really enjoyed the sample I had of this. At first you get a strong boozy citrus blast, which makes you feel like someone has thrown a cocktail over you...in a good way, kind of. Then the spices come through and the perfume settles into something very pleasant and wearable. I don't recognise this perfume from the advertising blurb on Buxton's site. It is more suitable for daytime for me. The lasting power is alright, but for the asking price one would expect a bit more. It is wildly overpriced. Most perfumes are, but the ingredients listed aren't so exotic and it's not a 'special occasion' scent. Who are the people who can afford this stuff without a sharp intake of breath, and why aren't I related to them?

Okay, I've tried this twice now and, while it's bright and pleasant, the combination of notes smells pretty precisely like toothpaste and mouthwash. A better name might be "Good Hygiene". I'll give Mark Buxton credit for always swinging for the fences--his hits are fabulous and his misses tend to be spectacular. I agree with some reviewers: very citrusy and very masculine. I tried all newer Mark Buxton scents, which are all unisex, and I simply can't see them for women. To me they also were more scent impressions than wearble scents for men or women.

This is mostly a sweet citrus perfume, kind of weak, boring and derivative. It's not original or surprising in any kind of way and the spicyness is not strong enough to make it interesting.

Not a great scent, somewhat generic with low sillage and longevity. There are other spicy citrus fragrances out there. Received as a free sample, I won't be making a purchase.

Just bought this. It intrigues me as other reviewers focus on the citrus side of it which, very quickly, evolves into a tangerine absolute (mandarine absolue) which reminds of Maubussin's Histoire d'Eau, which has the highest concentration of this base note in the industry. Beside this, it is definitely dark, not as opaque as Gucci Envy for Men, neither as dry and rubbery as Bulgari's Black. But dark, nevertheless. It is a very complex and daring structure which mixes such a concentration of expensive ingredients, (there is so much orris root in it that would have made Ernest Beau proud!), with inexistent base notes (such as the lily-of-the-valley accord that is not extractable in nature and must be recreated à la Roudnitska), that the result would have been a disaster! On the contrary, the composition is, despite dark in its essence, quite luminous and liquorish thanks to the insistence on the orange & cardamom accord (slightly sticky at the beginning but very agreeable and comforting), plus a splash of rosemary, which substitutes the fir, as it is dominant in the main accord of Goutal's Nuit Étoilée. It is a very beautiful and balanced combination of woods, spices, resins, balsamic and citruses. The only downside is, maybe, a quite discreet sillage for this kind of fragrances, but is it supposed to be worn by all genders, and we do not need a fog horn, right? Splendid and elegant. 9/10.

I do not like this....(see edit)....I love woody, spicy, warm scents, but there is a certain woody character that turns my stomach and is too rich.....it is here and also Josef Statkus does it, maybe it's the patchouli combined with the wood and spices. Not sure. Anyway, there is a similar effect in CB's Fire From Heaven, but I actually love that scent. Not really sure what crossed the line in this one. : / Edit: Tried this again and it's not so bad. Maybe I just over-applied? I actually like it today, still not enough to go for a whole bottle though.

Spicy citrus (orange/tangerine) in the opening, morphing to an ambery, dirty iris and vanilla base. Longevity and projection is eh. Great for date nights or for collectors who love anything Mark Buxton, slightly disappointing if you are looking for something a bit more artistic.

It's like a soft citrus with some bracing ginger and herbs mixed in. It's nice and well blended, but strikes me as a bit too masculine. Soon some warm spices come in.
