Lemon

Was sent this as a sample when I purchased some other perfumes. It is unlike anything I own and I am totally digging this one. I can imagine smelling this on a man or a certain kind of vibrant confident woman. Mmm mmm this is really good!! Citrusy, juicy and vibrant on first spray. Then the flowers come in to play giving it a more complex feel, I have not stopped sniffing my wrist since I sprayed a tiny bit on. It has lasted over an hour so far and still going strong even after a shower it smells divine. I'm finding the sage and the base with oakmoss and woods give this a more masculine edge that I am finding extremely sexy, I would love to smell this on a man! Wow, I'm impressed by the freshness and zest of this one, loving it :)

WOW ! Wore this for a night out clubbing on a warm & humid summer evening. The longevity is amazing,stayed fresh,crisp & clean smelling all night. I got so many compliments (& hugs),this fragrance is far more complex than it's name suggests. There are very definite green florals (lily of the valley or hyacinth?). Even with the dry-down I couldn't detect any tonka or amber but a hint of resinous/herbal notes. This for me is a winner & one I will be using a lot.

I love this, really fresh, woodsy and peppery lemon. Layers well with most my white florals, makes them more interesting. A lucky buy from Bicester Designer outlet, I got a box set of Penhaligons and a 50ml EDP of this at £10 it has lasted ages. Also smells great on my husband.

Such different reviews! Must have a lot of natural ingredients which are giving complexity and thus polarising opinion? Just guessing. Either that or there are different formulations being sold under the same name? Maybe different perfume regulations in different global regions forces them to change the recipe? Who knows? Here in UK, I get intense lemon with a halo of sweeter citrus -95% lemon and 5% sweeter/fuzzier citrus. It reminds me of Brontë (?) lemon soaps we used to have when I was a child - same juicy delicious lemon but no soapiness. I cannot recall the exact name of the soap. There was a crest and 'by appointment' on the box... The lemon was so delicious I tried eating the soap. After this fabulous lemon opening, which is light-filled and like a Canaletto painting of an Amalfi lemon, things dry down to something herby, oily, bitter and vaguely medicinal. I almost get cheap Own Brand washing-up liquid from a Spar corner shop (ah, student days memories return) but the herbs keep it strange and mysterious like the residue in an alchemist's flask. I don't get anything floral unless it is the slightly stinky/oily note which I sometimes find in hyacinths. The intense lemon quickly fades down so unless you keep re-applying through the day what happens is a division into two parts - the intense (for me nostalgic) lemon brightener that is probably only experienced by the person applying the fragrance and then the close to the skin dry down of complex slightly lemony strongly herby bitterness which others will pick up almost subliminally but only if they get very near to you. I am sure my lover would not like this but I do. Thus it is something that I would wear as a self-indulgence rather than for our times as a couple or as a crowd-pleaser when socialising. If you have a job where you have to give bad news then I think this could be the cologne to wear while giving it as it has an acid/bitter vibe that suggests a dose of medicine/prepare for unpleasantness e.g. police, emergency services, bankers turning down loans, solicitors handling divorce settlements, teachers administering reprimands (I am joking by the way). Or it might please people like me who just like sour/bitter notes and welcome a change from the childish sweetness that pervades perfumes these days.

Lemon is one of those rare citrus perfumes that actually last, thanks to a bold base. I initially disliked it when I tried it many years ago, but I revisited my sample as my perfume collection has grown. It has shadows of Cristalle. I managed to get a full bottle on eBay as it has sadly now been discontinued.

A straight forward lemon and citrus dominant scent, not particularly unique except that performance is better than average for this kind of perfume.

Mary Greenwell Lemon opens with promise — a bright, zesty summer splash that feels instantly uplifting — but it simply can’t hold its shape. The opening is genuinely pleasant: crisp citrus, a touch of greenery, and that breezy, sunlit freshness you want from a lemon fragrance. For a moment, it seems like it might finally be the one. Then the drydown arrives, and the story flattens. The transition from sparkling citrus to the base is going well at first, but the fragrance loses momentum quickly. What begins as fresh and lively becomes muted, generic, and ultimately bland. There’s no evolution, no depth, no twist. Performance doesn’t help its case, it becomes a soft, forgettable skin scent that fades into the background long before it should. It needs topping up all throughout the day, and while that’s tolerable for a scent you adore, it’s far less charming when the fragrance itself doesn’t justify the effort. By the end, it’s clear this isn’t a keeper — another lemon that sprints the first 100 metres like an Olympian and then collapses dramatically into a hedge. Sadly, it joins the four lemon fragrances before it, in the “not quite” pile. My hunt for a truly satisfying lemon fragrance continues.

This... is possibly the worst lemon fragrance I have ever had the displeasure of smelling. If I were to have blind smelled this, I would have never have assumed it as having anything to do with citrus. It is incredibly heavy and smells very much like many generic fragrances popular in the 80s. Many of the notes that this is purported to have are muddled and messy. All I can really smell in this is an incredibly cloying amber, tonka and a tonne of jasmine. There is a smack of lemon in there somewhere but it is not a bright citrus and more of a lemon oil scent. I was kindly asked by a friend of mine to scrub this off when I tried it on next to her. If you were expecting to find a bright juicy citrus, this is not for you.

The soap that CoconutCoffee mentions below is called Bronnley and you can still get it; I too adored the lemon shaped lemony soap as a child, they came in boxes of three realistic lemons at Christmas time, in the days when soap was an adorable Christmas gift. I LOVE the idea of a fragrance to wear while giving bad news or reprimanding people! It is interesting that some people seem to hate this perfume but really what's not to love about lemons and herbal bitterness, we need an antidote to constant candy and sweet fruit. So no compliments when wearing this, then - I shall reserve it for days when I have to be bossy and stern, or getting too hot in the kitchen.

I love this It reminds me of another scent but I simply can't remember it...:( It lasts Well, is light and yet deep at the same time Perfect for summer
