Radical Rose

I've been on a months-long rose kick. For me, 2021 is the year of the rose. I've mostly sported Malle's Une Rose (the ULTIMATE rose soliflore) and Portrait of a Lady, with detours into Malle's Noir Epices, Chanel's Coco and N°18, Love Kills (Masque Milano), Tea Rose (Perfumer's Workshop), and Le Cri de la Lumière (Parfum d'Empire). When Radical Rose appeared on my radar, I just HAD to have it. Samples were difficult to come by in the US, so I risked a blind buy—a risk that came with such high rewards! What initially appealed to me was Radical Rose's (supposed) "highest concentration in the world of rose centifolia absolute." That's definitely there, but still, I was surprised by what greeted me upon first spray. Radical Rose opens quite sweet (more than I expected), an explosion of rose, labdanum, and saffron. It quickly settles into a mildly spicy, deep rose, layered over labdanum, with patchouli rising to accent, rather than compete with, the beautiful floral accord. It's not a soliflore, but it's definitely rose-centric, all the other notes serving to complement the rose absolute. Though sweet, it's never too sweet (for comparison, this is sweeter than any of Malle's roses). It's not jammy, but it's also not not jammy, if that makes sense. In a similar way, the saffron and labdanum give something of a leathery edge, but it's not leathery and not not leathery at the same time. I guess that's to say it is very well balanced, a perfect calibration that continues for several hours. I see that others have included references to Malle's roses in their comments below, but I don't really detect a relation between Radical Rose and any of those. Yeah, there's rose and patchouli here, but this is no Portrait of a Lady. POAL is a grand dame, the ruler of her kingdom, silently exclaiming, "Bow down, bitches!" If Radical Rose is any relation, she's finagled her way into the family through marriage. She's classy, yes, acquired a title, yes, but she's a bit flirty. She's effortlessly likeable, and people naturally gravitate toward her. Pearls haven't quite been clutched, but the old guard turn up their noses to what they see as her gauche attention grabbing. And yes, this will grab your attention and that of others nearby. I've fallen in love with Radical Rose and received multiple compliments when wearing it. On a related note: I'm a college professor. My perfume collection is large enough to last me an entire lifetime, then be embalmed with fragrance, with whatever's leftover to perfume a midsize American city. So, I share my collection with students by spritzing any papers that exchange hands and offer small samples to students when they especially gush over a fragrance. I recently scented an assignment with Radical Rose, and for the first time EVER, I witnessed students (male and female) rubbing the assignment—a statistics assignment at that!—on their skin and clothes to transfer its smell. Me at the front of the classroom: "Umm, the bottle is up here if you want a spritz. No need to become biblically familiar with your assignment..."

This is truly a masterpiece composition and I’m in complete awe every time I smell it. I’ve never heard of this line until I saw it in Bloomingdales, thought I’ll try it out and there wasn’t a single perfume in it that I didn’t like and appreciate, which really never happened for me before as I tend to be EXTREMELY picky and it’s always hard for me to find scents I really like. I was on a hunt for a true rose scent, not the light and citrusy/musky type of rose perfumes, nothing overly sweet and jammy and nothing overshadowed by Oud. Smelling Radical Rose I immediately knew it was exactly what I was looking for, but since it was too early in my perfume haul I figured I’ll give other Rose perfumes a chance and smell around before purchasing anything. I smelled several Rose perfumes that day and NOTHING came anywhere close to Radical Rose! It stayed true to what it is: a true, deep, beautiful Rose scent that is amplified with intelligently blended quality ingredients that SERVE the Rose scent profile rather than overshadow it! And I later learned, when reading more about the brand, that this is exactly what Aurelien Guichard meant to create, and he has done so amazingly well! I was so amazed when I learned that he grows his own organic roses and tuberose, now this is passion for perfume making taken to another level! Cultivating the raw material with such love and care to ensure the best quality, and then creating a perfume centred around that ingredient, that celebrates different faucets of it in a harmonious simple blend of quality ingredients, where the purpose of each ingredient is very well understood and serves the purpose of beautifully amplifying different nuances of the central ingredient. Such inspiring passion, dedication, talent and skill, bravo to Aurelien Guichard! Of course ended up buying Radical Rose and not being able to help but wear it every single day since I got it. I will definitely be exploring more perfumes from this amazing line, his approach just makes sense, and to me, this is how perfume should be made, fully respecting the ingredients and truly understanding them to create something unique and powerful that celebrates the beautiful olfactory blessings that Mother Nature has provided us!

Fragrance enthusiast here. After a lot of smells, I found Rose to be my absolute favorite. I am a huge Rose fragrance enthusiast. This is my 4th rose-prominent fragrance I have, I've tested manyyyyyyyyy on my quest to find the one, or multiple gems. I own Lyric man, MFK A L Rose L'homme, Signature Rose by Zaharoff, I've tested POAL, MFK Oud Satin Mood regular and extrait, Cartier Declaration U'Soir, Tom Ford Rose Prick Cafe Rose, L.A. Rose by Wit and West, Lamar by Kajal, Chloe Roses... these are just some. Radical Rose is my favorite. The rose is so prominent but also supported to shine with a simple and very effective scent profile. The smell is intoxicating. The performance is high, the quality and blend is top tier. The perfumer grows and uses his own organic roses. Its versatile enough for all seasons IMHO which was a big deal for me since I'm moving to a hot climate. You may not think it would work in hot weather, but once I wore it during a dry sauna session in a round about way. To my pleasant surprise the smell adapted to bring out the cleaner fresher notes while the heavier stuff pushed to the back. That's when I knew this was something. After more testing, I found its all I want to wear right now, and the more I wear the more intoxicating it is. That's saying something for me who loves variety. Radical Rose is better than MFK Oud Satin Mood because Rose is more prominent and its more wearable. Lyric man is soapy and beautiful for what it is, A La Rose L'Homme is an amazing fresh rose... something about Radical Rose. Transportive. If you are a rose lover, and haven't tried this one, try this. Get a 2ml sample. You have to do at least 2-3 full wearings of it over a week. In short, this scent is a Rose all star and while it may be simple or not ground breaking, it shines with a beauty that is truly remarkable.

Crap. I’ve changed my mind. I really love this. Truthfully, I always liked it but found this a “nice on me, better on others” turns out I’m others! I’ve deleted my old review and am now providing a new one. I just needed it to get a little colder and now all I want to wear is this in the evenings and it’s in a fight with encens suave for the winter evening spot... and this just keeps winning because it’s more wearable. Layering this with rose jam or hibiscus mahajad is an absolute dream. I’ll keep most elements of my old review. To me, this is Maison Margiela On a Date without the blackcurrant and 10x better blended + better smelling. I’m surprised no one’s mentioned this though unless I just have weird skin. I also dislike on a date.... So beats me. This is a deep, dark, slightly sugary rose potpourri. Minus the usual longevity being great as expected of a MP fragrance, this perfumes biggest strength is somehow being fresh, musky and spicy all at once. I fear I’m cramming too many sexy autumn / winter perfumes into my collection, so glad I can keep a 6ml without going against my full bottle limits. I can’t lie, I even wore this on my long Boxing Day hike and still loved it. You could wear this anything below a cool spring evening. I tend to avoid patchouli and I have “patchouli skin” where any fragrance I wear that has it completely gets dominated by it, not here, the crushed rose petals win. This is extremely sexy on men. This is also the only other perfume (barring volutes by Diptyque) that my (I’ve come to realise fussy) boyfriend really loves on me! Only reason it’s staying as a permanent 6ml in my collection for now is I do already have a full bottle rose and I like my other perfumes more, this is also as versatile as my other fragrances... I think Encens suave may be demoted!

Nice, very nice indeed! Surprised no one has mentioned the resemblance to Amouage's Rose Incense, which is probably my most favourite Rose fragrance. I'll update more as the day goes on with the wear, but initial feelings is it's gorgeous :) OK, this is my 4th from the house and I have a 5ht on the way (Falcon Leather), and not one has disappointed (Except Santal Austral, but that is subjective as the fragrance was awesome). So, I'm a bit thrown when every purchase I get from a house turns out as good as the next, it doesn't really ever happen! This starts off with a nice blast of Incensey, dark rose, that within 5-10 minutes transforms a bit into an ever so slightly sweet incense rose, and it get a tiny bit powdery, just enough to remind you it's a Rose scent, but then the rose ever so slightly slides a bit to the back and the sweeter incense (Labdanum I'm guessing) moves in ever so slowly and nicely, then you get the feeling of that gorgeous sweet-bitterness of Patchouli that I love so much, I can't tell exactly when the sly little Saffron sneaks in, but he does, but I can never catch the little slippery git, he's just there :) All in all this is a luxurious and non-linear fragrance, that I think is absolutely a gem. It also layers lovely, I've given a try with MC's Infrarouge Cuir, Encense Suave and I think it will layer nicely with something fresh to juxtapose itself, like Creed's Royal Water. I can wear this in whatever weather and whatever the occasion, obviously it's more suited to night than day, and maybe not so hot days, but I'd wear it anywhere, I cant see it being offensive, maybe not the best office frag, but hey :) Any gender as usual for me, and blind buy FB worthy if you ask me :) Enjoy all and God bless :)

Rose is one of my favorite notes. I don’t think it should be considered typically feminine—far from it—and I also don’t believe that floral scents must inevitably evoke one’s great-grandmother. I own quite a few fragrances strongly centered around rose, and I especially love the way Montale works with it (potent, strong). When I came across a great online deal for Radical Rose, I jumped at the opportunity, confident I wouldn’t be disappointed by this blind buy—and indeed, it’s a pure WOW. Rose, rose, and more rose. I’ve read other reviews mentioning a strong patchouli presence. Personally, even though I own many perfumes with patchouli in varying degrees, I always struggle to detect it—it just slips past me. Here, all I get is rose: powdery, talc-like, and deliciously sweet. It’s like holding a powerfully fragrant bloom right under your nose. And let’s not forget Matiere Premiere has its own rose field for their perfumes. It projects beautifully, lasts for hours, and wraps you in a marvelous rose garden. Many people dismiss it as unsuitable for summer. Well, today is an August day with temperatures expected to go beyong 30°C, and here I am in the office, completely intoxicated by it. Granted, I might not wear it to the beach—but anywhere else, in any season, I can see myself wearing it. I also really like the packaging. I always appreciate very simple bottles with minimalist labels. The color of the juice is lovely, the cap has a satisfying weight, and the sprayer delivers an excellent mist. For floral lovers—and especially for rose enthusiasts—this is an absolute must-have in your collection.

This is a dark, spicy, rich, and slightly jammy rose that leans masculine. Yes, it is rose dominant, but it is also intensely patchouli and saffron. It's a bit gothic. There is a heavy note here that feels artificial, but this perfume is nonetheless beautiful, and it's one I grab time and time again. Despite its more masculine vibe, I'm a feminine-leaning woman and I love to wear it. It's probably one of my favorite perfumes and I ADORE rose. This is a loud perfume, but Radical Rose feels like a more laid back and approachable than POAL (as many here have pointed out before me). This perfume isn't groundbreaking or new--in fact, it's fairly simple in its execution. But the quality is undeniably superb. Radical Rose is expensive and smells extravagant. I love wearing a black cashmere turtleneck when I don this perfume. It's mysterious and classy. I absolutely love it. I opt to wear Radical Rose primarily in cold weather, although I think it would be appropriate for early autumn and early to mid-spring. It's an investment, but due to its beast-mode strength, it will last a long time. I'm curious to try the hair perfume with it, but I'm honestly afraid that the hair mist in combination with the actual perfume might overpower everyone around me! I am perplexed as to why they made an extrait version (I haven't tried it, but do I need to--this one is a monster in itself, in the best possible way). In addition to its similarity to POAL, Radical Rose also reminds me of Jo Malone Rose and White Musk Absolu and Diptyque Eau Capitale (I enjoy all of these).

🌹Radical Rose (2020)🌹 Aurélien Guichard I don’t know if there is nothing left to say about this heavenly intoxicating, beloved, voluptuous rose. There is a perfect balance between three popular notes mixed with Rose: Patchouli, Saffron and Labdanum. This scent is mellow and brash with inviting earthy touch in it and without Vanilla it never gets sweet. It’s stupendous with an enormous projection and sillage and everyone will notice your scent before and after you. If you are considering something like this I think you should check out as well Parfums De Marly Delina, Amouage Rose Incense, Penhaligon’s Cairo and Tom Ford Rose Prick. They are all different but in the same modern “beast mode” Rose category. I like to layer Radical Rose with Falcon Leather. MATIERE PREMIERE is the French phrase for “raw material” and the scents are built around one central natural ingredient so they are quite simple and easy to layer with each others. There are Saffron and Labdanum in both of those two and a leather note in Falcon Leather is made of Finnish Birch Tar. “Perfumes contain between 85% and 92% natural ingredients. Honestly, I’ve had this sample for a while, but I never thought much of it when I first sprayed it on my wife’s wrist. To me, it was a sweet, jammy rose—albeit a very nice one. I didn’t give it a chance past the opening because I dismissed it as slightly too feminine. However, I gave it another shot recently, and I am so glad I let it develop this time. I think it is actually perfectly unisex—even a tad masculine now. The scent has incredible range and changes noticeably throughout. As it dries down, the rose fades into the background and an earthy patchouli takes center stage. It has an extremely subtle "wet earth" quality, like the air right as it begins to rain. This scent feels mature and carries a certain melancholy. If you’ve ever watched Cowboy Bebop—that scene where the rose is lying on the ground in the rain—this is exactly the vibe it emits. I feel like this is wearable year-round; it works for dressy occasions or casual wear, as the coolness of the saffron and patchouli make it beautifully well-rounded. It isn't cloying, but it’s certainly not a light "freshie" either. Plus, the projection is massive for a solid four to five hours. I am so tempted to buy a full bottle, but I already have way too many fragrances! I might just buy it for my wife and "borrow" it every now and then.

A perfect, incensey, powdery patchouli-rose. It's deep, velvety, and sexy, and not so austere, stark, and regal as you find with Portrait of a Lady and it's dominant frankincense note and tart berry depths. Radical rose is quite sweet on my skin, yet definitely unisex, and honestly probably leaning slightly masculine due to it's spicy notes. There's something addictive about the creamy labdanum base with the saffron, which has tremendous staying power! To me it has a slightly animalic, musky vibe, almost vintage. I would also say it's more linear rather than complex, but it doesn't stop the scent from being totally intoxicating, I just can't get enough of it. I wish I could do it justice honestly, it's one of the most gorgeous perfumes i've tried for a long while. I immediately purchased myself a decant so I can enjoy it after I have gone through my 1.5ml sample. It's slightly too sexy, bold, and yang for me to wear to the office, so I will be enjoying it at my leisure. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for a feminine, clean, fresh rose scent. I've heard people compare this to Amouage's Rose Incense. I have a sample of this in the post so I will amend my review later to include a brief comparison.

I've had this for over a year and worn it a few times, because it's too strong for most situations, and it also has that pull that makes you want to go all in when you try to spray it lightly (rather like Interlude Man in that respect). AG makes a song and dance about this perfume containing the most rose ever of any perfume. I mean, sure, OK, but what this smells the most of is the Matière Première base which runs through the whole line. In this one it's particularly strong, so any sense of nature or even a rose flower is smothered by the ultra-modern screech. That said, a lot of people love the screech, and it's the screech that makes it similar to POAL for me. The feel of this scent to me is a very well put together person with a chaotic lifestyle and a drink problem. The kind of person who is fun to be around in small doses but always has a psycho bitch vibe (regardless of their gender) and enjoys overstepping social boundaries, because that's what Radical Rose will do, it'll invade the space and thoughts of anyone within 10 metres of you, more if you're in public transport. What I like about it is the incensey feel and the jammy sweetness which isn't too sickly.

This is a stunning rose fragrance - absolutely exquisitely made. I think the criticisms about the name from people who say there isn't anything 'radical' about it are perhaps lacking in imagination. What about all the radical things the wearer can bring about though the confidence boost they get from wearing such a beautiful scent? Who says the name has to literally be a descriptor for the juice inside, and not something more personal? In this case, I think the radical is connected to the fact Aurelien Guichard has rather extravagantly obtained a rose field to make this fragrance from his own materials, in a true homage to the name, 'Matiere Premiere': wanting to create the fragrance from the earth up. This is such a lovely rose - equal parts spicy, and rich, and sweet and voluptuous. Very smooth. Like others say, and like other fragrances in this line, it's perfectly gender inclusive. I've never found a fragrance line before that is so amiable-smelling right across the stable, whilst never being boring. On the contrary, because the fragrances are so well done, it's an exciting line.

What has happened to me?! In a few days I will turn 40. For most of my life I have disliked the sharpe sourness of rose fragrances. Last week I ordered a few samples from Matiere Premiere and on a whim added Radical Rose to the bunch, not expecting much. When the fragrances arrived and I smelled Radical Rose, suddenly something clicked and now I can’t get enough. Did a rose-inclined olfactory switch turn on at 40? Maybe. Or perhaps, I’m finally getting to the stage in my fragrance journey where I have smelled enough perfumes to recognize quality. As others have said, this fragrance isn’t groundbreaking....I mean, it’s rose. But it’s rose done very well. Radical Rose has a slight sour zing to it, but the zing is cradled in a smooth, almost pudding-like creaminess. It is pure sophistication in a bottle. Encens Suave is my first love from this brand and I have already purchased a bottle. Next month, when my fragrance budget is replenished and I have sold enough on Mercari to justify the purchase, I will buy Radical Rose too.

This is a perfect deep spicy rose fragrance. It's superbly blended. I agree with the review below it doesn't go dry like portrait of a lady. I actually don't like that fragrance at all. This keeps the dewy freshness of the rose but adds depth with the spices and the patchouli and the labdanum. The saffron never becomes too metallic here. That is often a problem with saffron in fragrances If it is overused. And radical rose it's perfectly balanced. The spices, the base add warmth and depth instead of a harsh metallic almost ping like feeling inside your nose like a lot of saffron heavy fragrances can do. Gosh I can't stop smelling this one. It really reminds me a little bit of Aramis calligraphy rose. Which I already own. So, I probably won't spring for a full bottle of this but when my full bottle of calligraphy rose is gone this would be an excellent substitute for that fragrance. So, everyone out there if you miss calligraphy rose check out radical rose, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I love rose and have quite a bit of this note in my collection, everything from jammy roses to aquatic presentations. Before I tried Radical Rose, if someone had asked for a photorealistic rose, I would have suggested Diptyque's l'eau Rose. However, next to RR, Diptyque's bottle is lemony, sweet, woody--a rose bathed in sunsine with a bit of earth, stem and soil. Radical Rose is certainly the most beautiful, the most photorealistic rose I've experienced-- it leans a bit into musty territory, there's patchouli here, but it stays in its place. If this is a real rose, it's blooming at night, the sky is overcast and there's a Gothic moon peeking through the clouds. The overall scent is well blended--a seamless, darkly beautiful, mysterious rose. This stays mostly linear throughout dry down and projects well in hot Texas weather (July). I also thought this might be too close to Tiziana Terenzi's Porpora, but they are nothing alike. Porpora is an amber rose iteration, rich in cinnamon and spices.

I've had this scent for several weeks now, and I've worn it as the weather has gone from warmer end-of-summer weather to crisp autumn weather, and the weather change has affected how this scent wears throughout the day. On warm days I have to use this scent sparingly because I found it turned a little boozy smelling on me throughout the day. I liked it, but I didn't love it because, at the end of the day, it smelled boozy and maybe even a little metallic. I never got a migraine from it, but something about it reminded me of a night out, which was strange because it smelled so luxurious the first couple of hours I wore it. However, as the weather cooled, I noticed the scent developed throughout the day into something much smoother and silkier. It now smells sweet and candy-like at the end of the day, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's gourmand; it is so addicting, and everyone around me has complimented how it smells. It is now my go-to day-to-day scent because it smells so luxurious.

Absolutely my favourite rose scent. Such a genuine and splendid blend that the only other one getting close to Radical Rose is Rose de Petra by Stéphane Humbert Lucas, but the latter did not have the same longevity and sillage though it performed very well and not weakly. My search for the ultimate rose fragrance ended when I got a 6ml gift of RR and never did I receive compliments as I did with this one. So happy it comes in a 100ml bottle. Those comparing Radical Rose with MFK Oud Satin Mood can not be taken seriously, they are quite different..to say it mildly. RR is in its own league when it comes to the rose departement. Before this I had Lyric by Amouage and Atomic Rose by Initio, just to mention a couple. Lyric was a high quality blend but missing the masculine DNA but the opening was fantastic in its own way. Atomic Rose could strangulate most users and was too linear...even one single spray was overwhelming. Scent 10/10 Longevity 9/10 Sillage 9/10 Price 9/10 Overall 10/10

The initial hit of this is so wonderfully rose. I’ll never get used to how it slaps me in the face. One of the best rose openings I’ve ever smelled that doesn’t pull me directly into a female direction. I honestly don’t know how it is so comfortably unisex or even mascualine with such a strong rose scent, profoundly good perfumery. The it stays floral in the front for the dry down and doesn’t at all lose its core. The patchouli is backing it without being cloying or too “hippy-ish” and earthy. It’s woody and mild. The best rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled and honestly cannot rate this highly enough. Though I must say it is rather linear and is clearly looking to please the masses and not be overly unique. Nothing wrong with that when it’s done this well. Sillage is mild but not a let down. Remains a bright skin scent even down to its final moments and remains lifted throughout. Cannot speak highly enough about this though I can’t speak to the comparisons meantions below.

Three samples from Matiére Premiére site. Tested at home 4x in 72 degrees F. Starts with a loud bang with a sweet, prominent, saffron pulling this rose to the brink of candied. An earthy patchouli cuts the sweetness in ~15 minutes. The composition darkens, but only winks in the direction of goth. I don’t recall smelling this rose in nature, but many do. The enormous projection wanes to moderate after an hour, then quickly draws closer over ~3 hours. The patch gradually succumbs to a delightful deep wood. This rich, tenacious wood builds over the course of the entire wear, before dominating the late dry down. After ~5 hours, it’s detectable on skin. The journey draws to a close at the ~8 hour mark. I’d prefer stronger projection in the dry down, however I think most wearers would prefer it as-is. This isn’t a shapeshifter, but it’s certainly not linear. Verdict: A rich, deep and satisfying rose of exceptional quality. A strong like, with the potential for love. Nice!

This fragrance is a very pretty and a rather unique take on rose. I decided to re-explore my interest in rose-centric fragrances that are blended with other touches...woods, spices, oud, patchouli, etc. The fragrance opens with a discernible "young" rose blast that is different from so many other rose fragrances I've sampled, owned and worn over the years. The rose note feels cool, if not chilly. I do get somewhat of a metallic, almost refrigerator note upon application. Does this make sense?? I get youthful, dewy, crisp, green rose notes upon initial application. Within 15-20 minutes, the opening rose note becomes somewhat giving way to labdanum, saffron, patchouli and pepper. The dry down is lovely with rose, saffron, pepper and patchouli. The fragrance settles nicely and does warm-up a bit during dry down. Longevity is fair at approximately 2-3 hours. Silage is minimal, which is fine. Purchased a full bottle. I really love this fragrance!!

A niche unisex rose. If you're looking for an artificial or standard rose caricature, this isn't it! If you want rose that is unique with a surprising amount of gravitas, this might what you're looking for. This rose is deep with saturated patchouli and vibrant saffron as accompaniment. The labdanum is not listed on other sites, but it is listed here. As it is one of my favorite notes, I am sure I detect it. Same with the pepper. They add an almost gothy aesthetic and unisex vibe. My nose can immediately tell that this fragrance comes from the same house that created the masterpiece, Falcon Leather. It has similar intense DNA, but with rose, and it leans a smidge feminine (though still considerably unisex). I have/had probably dozens of rose dominant scents and I am excited to find one that is so distinctive! It's dark, sexy, but somehow unpretentious and versatile. 8 hr + longevity & moderate to strong projection on me.

I'm writing this after seeing a fragrance influencer on Instagram say that this isn't mass-appealing. Maybe my definition of mass-appealing is unfortunately inaccurate, which may actually be the case given the last couple years of designer fragrances that lean feminine, but I'd say this is niche perfumery that appeals to many. It's a pretty straight forward rose which performs well and smells lovely on basically everyone I've ever smelt it on. It doesn't pull any bizarre, wacky punches. It's a little sweet, but only in a way that's typical to certain types of rose. There's a light spiciness that feels a little peppery, and a smoky incense. This'd actually be a safer gift than your Good Girl Gone Bads, your Gabrielles. I'm sorry if that upsets anyone, but it specialises in its quality more than its groundbreaking uniqueness... and it's very high quality. Beautiful. Warming. Can be worn dressed up or down. Comforting.

Will keep this simple. This is one of my all time favourite perfumes. I love it and treasure it. Love how it smells and how it makes me feel while wearing it. Tried lots of other rose perfumes and none came close to this. Overall a unisex perfume but it does go slightly to the feminine side. For more dressy or smart casual ocasions. I'm a guy and wear it with pride and receive lots of compliments with it. Expensive smelling it has the performance of a god. It stays for hours on my skin and people notice the perfume so a couple of sprays are more than enough. Have noticed a significant price increase since I bought it last year which means it's selling. I'm happy this house is getting the attention it deserves, but I hope it doesn't get too mainstream and loses its appeal. I own French Flower from the same house that I also like, but Radical Rose is pure love.

Been wearing this for couple of days in a row. As a fan of rose fragrances I see beauty in almost all rose fragrances I have tried. This one is special in the wearing experience. Its realistic when you smell it close, yet it feels like a vibe around you. In the day its a sophisticated elegant rose, At night it gets psychedelic and meditative In the air its mostly saffron and labdanum which are dominant. Most note worthy thing: It shifts between cozy warm amber glow accenting the rose and beaming sharpness which grabs the nose with a patchoeli complexity. This dynamic keeps me coming back to it, simply addictive and attention grabbing. thankfully little nose fatigue for me so I can personally enjoy it for over 12 hours with 1 spray Masterful... those who can appreciate the vibe will know this is not "just another patch-rose combo"

What about them roses!!!! I just don't want to take my nose away from the bottle or from my wrist. This is the Rose for me. The best rose to my nose. It smells deep, luscious, hypnotic, opulent but not pretentious and not overpowering or confusing. Very well balanced - not too sweet and just the perfect amount of spice. Delicious. Can't get enough. Lasts for hours - can imagine wearing this everyday...Love it. Can't wait to try more from Matiere Premiere! This style of creation is right up my ally. Focusing on one thing and truly enhancing it. It's a yes from me. UPDATE: It's the only perfume I want to wear, absolutely obsessed. Haven't stopped wearing it since I picked up a full bottle. Rose lovers do you nose a favour and get it on this one! It's what glorious smells like...in a bottle!

I feel almost everyone on this website get this fragrance completely wrong. This fits better on a man than on a women, both can wear it but it's better on a man in my opinion. There is not a radical amount of rose unlike the name suggests, rather it has a prominent saffron and patchouli smell. Still its definitely a rose fragrance, and the rose in this is incredibly natural smelling. Was not surprised when I learnt the perfumer gets the rose material from his own rose garden. Wearable for any season and any occasion. About 10 hours longevity and medium sillage. This fragrance has an amazing blend however is not groundbreaking in the slightest and can definitely be dull for some. described in 1 sentence: green, slightly spicy rose for a men. 8.2/10

As a lover of rose fragrances, Diptyque's Eau Capitale and Serge Lutens' Fille de Berlin are two of my everyday favorites, and a bottle of Radical Rose might be vying for position among them on top of my dresser soon. Of my two references, Radical Rose has the most in common with Eau Capitale. They share a handsome, dry patchouli structure under a flouncy floral surface, but while Eau Capitale is spicy and assertive, Radical Rose settles into a smoother blend. Is it the labdanum that rounds it out so nicely? As other reviewers have pointed out, a unisex patchouli-rose is not a particularly "radical" concept, but this is an extremely high quality version of a tried and true recipe. Signature fragrance material.

This is a sweet, dark and slightly naughty rose. This evokes a masked young woman wearing a velvet heavy dark red gown at a mask ball. She is ascending the marble stairs slowly. Her hair is a cascade of dark curls and her scent trail is Rose. She is regal and mysterious all at once. Radical Rose is a beautifully evocative scent. I love anything rose scented and Aurélien Guichard has done a wonderful job here. Even though I have too many Rose perfumes in my collection, I want to purchase this one because it is different than any other rose scents I own. I have to hand it to him, it’s beautiful!

Yeah, this isn't exactly 'unique'... but it's the best in the genre. Portrait of a Lady reads as pure dusty incense on my skin with little to no rose. This? This is ALL rose, and a tiny bit of sparkly saffron x pepper blend. It lasts forever, projects for hours and smells just incredible. I purchased the 6mL of it because I don't think I'd need to wear it too often. I wish it was available in more sizes, like 30mL. Regardless, it's an absolute joy to wear on a spring day. I'd buy it if I could justify it, but I can't. It's not a bad price for 100mL but it is overpriced.

In my opinion, this is a masterpiece. I'm a man, 45+. It's one of the best scents I've ever smelled, certainly the best rose fragrance tailored for men that I've ever experienced. It's also one of the best fragrances I can wear. Guys, don't be afraid of it, this isn't a juicy, girly rose, but a deep, elegant, earthy, leaning dark rose suitable even for a 120 kg muscular man. 90% unisex, I don't agree with the rating of "female" or "more female". Because of the earthiness, I would lean more towards "more male"... Go for it, you won't regret it... 👍😎👍

There is the "translucent" smoky kind of rose such as Bvlgari Garanat, and then there is three-dimensional juicy rose like Matiere Premiere's Radical Rose. Not saying which is better than the other, there are different occasions for either of them but the incense Matiere Premiere uses is not just smoky, but also a little sweet and it makes all the difference between a summer or a winter scent. This house is quickly climbing up to be one of my favourites - blind bought full bottles of Ecens Suave and Radical Rose, and i have Santal Austral incoming!

Radical Rose redefines the rose — it’s not romantic or sugary, but bold, rich, and almost untamed. At its heart is a powerful dose of Grasse rose absolute, deep and velvety, like a dark red rose blooming under moonlight. There’s a raw, spicy edge — likely from saffron and patchouli — that gives it backbone and character. Vetiver grounds the composition with dry, earthy woods, adding a mysterious, almost ritualistic depth. The fragrance unfolds dramatically but never becomes too heavy — it feels like a living force, pulsing on the skin.

At first, a strong and pleasant, spicy, jammy rose. A little dark but yet uplifting. This is what I was hoping for (but didn’t find) with Zaharoff’s Halfeti Black Rose. Makes me want to keep sniffing; never a hint of suffocating, churchlady powdery rose, as in Amouage’s Opus XII Rose Incense. The drydown is rather linear, but as it smelled so good from the get-go, I’d call that a good thing. However, it’s not as strong as I’d hoped and became a skin scent within a couple hours. I look forward to comparing the extrait version.

Rose is hit or miss on me, but I like Matiere Premiere's creations, so I figured I'd request a sample of this. It does remind me strongly of FM's Portrait of a Lady. It's a Gothic, haunting rose for sure! Smelling this reminds me of a dark autumn night, cool air, and fog. It's spooky and vintage-smelling, but in a good way. If Morticia Addams wore a perfume, this would be it. Romantic, mysterious, and eerie is how I would describe Radical Rose. If you love darker scents, give this one a try.

I saw a few men mention that this perfume is masculine. It sounds borderline crazy to me. It is a very feminine classic deep rose. Very similar to Portrait of a Lady, but better. This perfume is a bit more jammy and rose-focused. The patchouli is more balanced and doesn't take over the entire fragrance, like it happens with POAL. It is a beautiful, deep, seductive, a little mature rose. Excellent projection and longevity. If this fragrance was a colour - it would be maroon.

Love this one. Rich rose, ambered spice - not too balsamic - heavy musk to my nose that offers a thick white powdery musk undertone. Woody enough that the musk is beneath and never overtakes the wood, patchouli and spice. I get a feel of Rose Prick at the very start, Rose Omeyyade in the mid and gorgeous woods and musk in the base with a lighter rose like NR Rose Musc.... Though it smells like none of them in it’s entirety. Lovely stuff - long lasting and projects well.

I was days away from buying Oud Ispahan to add to my "spiritual" type fragrance moods before I was sent Radical Rose as a sample. The vibes are exactly the same except RR made me gasp and miss a beat in all the good ways. It's so interesting, contemporary and instead of the oud, theres a deep incense that I love. It is rose over incense rather than oud over rose. Hella sexy on a girl or a guy. Yep, on a guy I'd think he was self-assured, original and deep.

Badass rose🌹🔥 Aurelien is a genius and a very talented perfumer who has proved his skills for over a decade. Radical rose has a mystical effect on your skin with a super combo of rose, patchouli, saffron and labdanum. However the pepper note is barely untraceable, but you can smell the high quality of raw materials which he uses nearly in all his perfumes. It’s one of my favorite rose perfumes together with POAL, Porpora, Aoud lime and Attar. Enjoy!

This is exactly what is noted in the Pros/Cons section above...a badass rose. It does smell like POAL with less patchouli. What it really smells like to me is Floral Street Chypre Sublime. I'm always wary of frags with saffron as a note but this works. It's not coming across oudy or leathery the way saffron usually does. I love this. Edit: Have had the sample for about 2 weeks and I must have a FB of this one. It's freaking gorgeous.

I am not a rose scent person as rose is the flower of my country and I don’t find it that special. That being said this is an interesting jammy rose, slightly spicy and very patchouli heavy. Actually the first ever MP perfume I liked because it lacks the sharp, off note of Vanilla Powder, Falcon Leather and many others in the line. And btw this is a rose that people should be talking about, not the nauseating Delina.

a rose for all. truly a unisex rose based spicy fragrance that smells very natural and creamy in a way, the rose is not overly jammy and not sickly sweet and sits right in the spot, complimented by the saffron and this black pepper note. preformance on my skin could be better but i can't complain, i got it as a portrait of a lady alternative for way cheaper..although i do still prefer the malle slightly

Promised myself that it will be my last blind buy. Instead of POAL by FM, this has so much more similarity to MFK Oud Satin Mood. It is somehow sweet but not an angelic kind of sweet. This is not a girly rose scent in the slightest, it’s a powerful one in compliment to the spices. Spicy but not nose disturbing, almost powdery and soapy kind of spice. A bit old to my taste but still love this a lot.

Ok now this is nice. The rose is strong and sweet. I know there’s no Oud but there is a rose/Oud thing going on similar to Oud Satin Mood. It’s not as strong and not a dupe but it has a similar thickness to it. It also smells a bit like Born From Fire. I’m in #6 in the discovery kit and was getting very discouraged. This is nice though. It’s not a new smell but it’s a solid fragrance.

I have just bought two 6 ml bottles, French Flower and Radical Rose. I will have to buy a full bottle of both.... Radical Rose is soooo good! Ok, it is not a groundbreaking rose scent, but it is so well composed. It is modern, is potent, is rich, not too sweet, such a masterpiece! I love everything I have tried from Matier Premier so far, love this house.

One of my favorite rose fragrances I have ever smelled. Wow. Sadly, it does not dry down on my skin the way I would like because it pulls a bit too spicy on me. I ended up giving it to my mother, and oh my goodness, this fragrance is SO beautiful when it works on someone. It is balanced, sweet, yet also very hypnotic with the pepper and patchouli.

i acquired a sample of this in summer, but maybe it got lost amongst too many samples, or maybe the warmth of the weather somehow contributed to my not really being able to smell it... then came the autumnal temperature drop- i returned to the sample and understood that this supple, rich jam chai scent is needed for the colder months.

On my skin it’s a bit of an impostor. Starts as an alfa female bossy rose, rich and expensive. But then appears a vulnerable side, unclaimed musk note. To my nose it feels like a mix of Rose Malaki and POAL, the best of both. I'd leave it to wear in my 40ies along with Rouge Malachite but good scents are being discontinued so often.

Yep, I found my new love I thought it was going to be another rose patchouli combination that I love but already have too many in my collection and somehow this blew my mind on first sniff, so much so that I had goosebumps.. with that reaction I knew I was going to buy it, I only didn't know it gets better with the dry down 😍
