Cristal Oud

Omg, what a beautiful perfume. The rose and the incense is a perfect combination that i love so much. It reminds me of the incense in the Greek orthodox and Byzantine tradition. The Rose and the Oud with the Olibanum make a perfect combination. When I purchased this I was not expecting this quality, because the price was so low. This perfume has class despite its low price. It is perfect for almost every season, but better for warmer days. It is in my opinion not masculine but unisex, as every great perfume is. Good for formal meetings and with a beautiful silage. Just wow, chapeau.

Nice Rose and mild oud, 8/10, unisex starts a little weak when its 1st applied but very quickly become rich and warm smelling, not as rich a Ferrari essence oud but a good contender :) Im not a big lover of strong Oud and it makes me want to wash it off after a few hours, but rose and mild Oud mmmmm love it. i think they call it western oud!

Got Mauboussin Crystal Oud last summer for myself. I was trying out new fragrance in the perfume store and found this one. It smelled surprisingly good; masculine, fresh, woody. Perfect for sunny days. Also, I bought the fragrance when it was in the sale. I got it for €25. During the opening the rose is very prominent, after 5 minutes or so the oud shines through. To my nose there are not much other notes, which is fine. I like the fragrance. Season: Autumn or spring, summer is also possible in the evenings. Strength: 6.5/10 (6+ hours) Sillage: 7/10 Remark: Easy going, woody, masculine rose fragrance. Smells fresh, high price quality ratio. Overall grade: 8/10

I find all the Mauboussin fragrances that I own to be quite generic and not standing out from the crowd. But in saying that, they are all pleasant in their own way, certainly nice but not niche. Decent not disappointing. Mauboussin Cristal Oud is quite a loud fragrance with a noticeable sharp rose and plasticy-vinyl (must be the amber) aroma on the opening. The dry down is warm (as expected from an Oud) with a heavy damp moss type overtone in a more sour than sweet nose. This damp note does not change but remains the same for the next few hours. Overall then, a decent but loud Rose-Amber Oud that is affordable and worth adding to your fragrance wardrobe.

A blind buy that cost me around 10 quid on Ebay for 100 ml EDP. It's a nice rosy fragrance but it's not soapy. It has that beautiful sharpness I can't name. It almost smells like a rose dipped in an incense. I'd recommend it to all the fans of not obvious rose smells. It's not overpowering, but it's also not something a person next to you can miss. I'd say it's a well blended unisex oriental fragrance.

i personally don’t smell the rose in here. the smell reminds me of the incense sticks they burn in the churches in georgia which i love. i personally love smelling like a church so this perfume is perfect for me.

To be honest this scent is similar to burning plastic, sweet with a powerful hint of roses. Definitely leaning female. Not for everyone since it's nuclear and sometimes nauseating.

On my skin that fragrance act like a sine wave, start very strong with a clear unisex vibe then weaken in a kind of pot pourri smell almost during the dry down and comes back very strong with that rose mingling with the oud, surprising fragrance but in a good way

#812 in my "Tour de Fragrance" So this is the second of my four Mauboussin blind buys. It's a very mild oud scent, agarwood, not rose dominant, but doesn't come off potent, so unlike most scents that purport to be woody orientals, you probably go heavy with this one. I note that the four scents people think most similar are Franck Olivier "Oud Touch", Montale "Black Aoud", Korloff "Royal Oud Intense" and Franck Olivier "Oud Vanille", all four of which I have on the shelf. Insofar as rose-oud scents share that basic DNA in common, I expect there to be that similarity, but beyond that? Inquiring fragrance fanatics want to know! So here's my plan: I'm going to do side-by-sides, one at a time, scrub off, dry off, and do another side-by-side with all those scents, render my judgement about each pairing. After the last test I will shower (since by which time I will have done a three mile around the lake and a heavy workout at my gym), reapply the Cristal Oud, see a female friend who's also a fragrance enthusiast, who has noticed and commented on some fragrances I've worn, and see if she notices and comments on this Mauboussin scent, reporting her comments, if any. 1. Mauboussin "Cristal Oud" vs. Franck Olivier "Oud Touch" The Olivier scent is sweeter, fruitier, almost a gourmand, more floral, with discernible violet, caramel and raspberry notes. The dry down has a strong scent of pencil shavings woodiness. No idea where that's coming from since cedar isn't a listed note. I don't pick up any actual agarwood as I do with the Mauboussin, and in fact it doesn't appear in the Oud Touch notes. But as we all know, "oud" in the name doesn't guarantee agarwood in the fragrance. About an hour after I applied the two scents, after a 3.3 mile hike on the nature trails at 66F/18.8C, where I certainly didn't work up a sweat, no projection whatever from the Mauboussin, which is barely detectible woodiness with nose to skin. I am not impressed. The Oliver is still detectible at about a foot and anyone at intimate range will smell cedar and raspberries. The two scents are not remotely similar either in smell or quality. Scrubbing off to prep for round two. 2. Mauboussin "Cristal Oud" vs. Montale "Black Aoud" So the oud opening of the Montale is much sharper than in the Mauboussin. Beyond that you do pick up the patchouli in the Montale which is not present in the Mauboussin. After about 90 minutes the Montale is only slightly stronger than the Mauboussin, but the difference the patchouli makes is still noticeable and makes the Montale more likeable for me. Quality-wise there isn't much difference in that I'd say the performance of both is very disappointing and unacceptable in an EDP. Scrubbing off for round three (You really do have to use a scouring pad to get all the oils off). 3. Mauboussin "Cristal Oud" vs. Korloff Paris "Royal Oud Intense" Scent-wise there's no comparison here. The Korloff is more complex and interesting by far. Strong incense, jasmine and patchouli. All around better fragrance and double the sillage. Heading to the gym for a quick workout. Back from the gym. Been about an hour and twenty minutes. Again, the Mauboussin is a skin scent, but it's held up better indoors than it did in the breeze around the lake, as you'd expect. The Korloff is still projecting arm's length. More musky now which oddly has left it smelling more like the Cristal Oud now that in did in the opening. Moving on. 4. Mauboussin "Cristal Oud" vs. Franck Olivier "Oud Vanille" Wow. I don't know how anyone finds any similarity between these two fragrances. There is a strong similarity between the two Oliviers, the Oud Vanille being spicier and more orange dominant than raspberry dominant, giving it almost a tropical vibe, but it isn't remotely similar to the Mauboussin. Okay. Time to hit the shower, catch up on the news and then head out for what I call the "Tara test." 5. The "Tara Test" Like many straight men, the approval of beautiful women means more to me than it should, shaping my life in ways both subtle and profound, and Tara is a "God-how-I-wish-she'd-been-the-girl-next-door" pretty woman who could teach J-Lo a thing or two about eye makeup. And unlike every other woman I know, she's actually a scent enthusiast and a Fragrantica member. So it kinda makes my week when she says, "You smell really good! What are you wearing?" Met her ten minutes after applying an eight shot spritz, body and clothing (something I never do, but did to give this scent an advantage). Nothing. No reaction, and she can pick up Azzaro Chrome Sport from six feet out. I call that a definite fail. So final comments: This scent is most similar to Montale Black Aoud of the scents I know in the "reminds me of" section, but it is not even close to the Korloff and Olivier scents, the Korloff being the only scent I'd consider for a second bottle purchase out of all of those. Overall Mauboussin "Cristal Oud" is a disappointing blind buy, but it was cheap, so no tears. The positive things I can say about it is I like the bottle design, which means very little to me, and the scent's not offensive in any way, like Renaissance Oud and some other ouds that scream "barnyard." So you can certainly wear it wherever you like. But there's nothing here that is interesting or attractive or even draws anyone's attention. The performance is frankly very bad for what's supposed to be a woody oriental. It doesn't remotely deserve its 4+ rating. Take a hard pass on this one.

Ароматът може да бъде определен по-скоро като унисекс, комбинацията роза-агарово дърво е доста експлоатирана,в този смисъл парфюмната вода не е уникална. По-скоро ароматът е приятен и много фин, създава ми асоциация за уют и чаша сладко, червено вино. Издържливостта е добра, но липсва шлейф. Съотношението цена/качество е отлично. Тъй като в момента е студено(температури от 0 до 10 градуса), ще тествам парфюмната вода в по-топло и влажно време, очаквам изненади :)

This is something different to my nose. I've tried a few rose and oud fragrances, this one is different. I can see how lovers of oud will gravitate towards it. To my nose, it's rather an animalic, almost fecal kind of oud. Despite its boldness, there's still some spiciness and sweetness in the background. Longevity and projection isn't a problem with this fragrance (8+hrs) Definitely not my favorite oud fagrance...but I appreciate the quality. Good job Mauboussin.

I can quite confidently say that this is the best cheap WESTERN oud fragrance. Really smooth, soft, but slightly balsamic oud. A nice, realistic rose rounds this fragrance out, my nose isn't quite trained enough to pick out olibanum properly but theres definitely a dry woody and spicy vibe to pick up. Fantastic fragrance, similar to Levantium by Penhaligons.

U smell all three notes...also u smell something like tonka bean or vanilla and pepper..... Very balanced light dark but joyful scent a light dark rose good quality good projection good performance....... unisex...... This is a 10 out of ten all day scent that makes u happy and energetic at a fraction of a cost

I was so curious about this fragrance, so I decided to blind buy it! Is not my favorite but I really like it. If you love Rose fragrances and find a good deal, go for it! U won’t be disappointed!

Very synthetic rose and oud. Expected at this price point. Projects loud, decent longevity.
