Nuit Andalouse

If an Italian man ever asks me out on a date - this is what I will wear. Silk and this perfume. And yes, I know, Andalusia is in Spain :-) but I can't help it, this perfume is extremely nostalgic for me. I was actually shocked when I first smelled it. It brought me back through decades and continents to a small Italian village in the South and the boy with the most charming smile I have ever seen. That's how that hot Mediterrenean night smelled. Intoxicating like a promise of a different life, the life that never happened but I miss it. I don't own this perfume because I'm afraid that it will make me question my life choices and I may end up buying a one way ticket to Italy... Cécile Zarokian is a genius.

This perfume is an ode to beauty and blossoming femininity. It is simply so enchanting! Like a milky mousse with tropical fruits on a warm terrace in the evening, where the fabulous flowers are wafting around. Happiness, summer, beauty, sweetness - it's all there in this perfume. Sillage is small to medium but longevity especially on hair or fabric - 12 hours and more.

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! I cannot praise this divine creation enough. Its sweet warm Gardenia and yellow flowers sweetly perfuming the warm air and sun kissed skin. I must have a full bottle asap, i love this more than Isabey.... Yeah I know!!!

Nuit Andalouse is a tropical floral scent, not typically my thing, but it is a high-quality, nicely-composed example of its genre. I am very impressed with the quality of this house, and while NA is not a standout from MDCI, it is an elevated take on a tired trope. NA can be summed up as a bouquet of honeyed white and yellow florals with a powdery drydown. Notably, NA features an excellent rendering of gardenia - a note that is notoriously difficult to replicate in perfume (the natural oil cannot be harvested, so in the manner of muguet, it must be synthesised in a lab). NA opens with fresh citrus, followed closely by muted, green violet. The sweet, tropical florals unfold quite quickly, led by unmistakeable heady gardenia. Ylang ylang, sweet and creamy, brings things firmly to tropical territory, but is uncharacteristically muted, playing second fiddle to the gardenia and enhancing it beautifully. Much as I like ylang ylang, it can often become cloying in perfume. Some orange blossom emerges after a while as the aforementioned florals subside somewhat, again, more muted than it typically appears in perfume. There is a honey-like sweetness to the florals, natural-smelling and nectar-like. I get a prominent banana note as it progresses, adding to the tropical accord nicely. The florals become increasingly powdery as NA dries down, with a soft woodiness creeping in during the later stages. It becomes softly musky as it fades, remaining a sweet, tropical scent until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. It is a feminine spring/summer scent. An elegant, elevated take on a scent category that can be cloying and juvenile, NA is beautiful, nuanced and masterfully put-together. While it is less of a showstopper than other MDCIs, NA is a worthy inclusion, in keeping with the high quality of this house. One of the best tropical florals I've tried. 4/5.

The first top spray was quite memorizing as the gardenia and ylang combination shines with the help of slight niroli note. As it calms down, the orange rises and it unbalances the juice a bit and shows up the vanilla in a kind of cloying way. Then the juice goes distracting, cloying, and unbalanced although it starts quite superb but turns into chaos after few minutes till it settles down into an acceptable essence, creamy, vanillic, white floral. Not amazing unique and superbly divine, but something i've sensed before

It is definitely a sunshine eau de parfum. Very nice and charming. She arrived today into my collections of must haves. A creamy and bright parfum. You can wear in the day mostly outside it really picks up into the air when it mixes together. Nice.

This is IDENTICAL to Nobile 1942 Casta Diva. No difference at all between the two, it s incredible. If you want to save yourself the money, get Casta Diva instead.

Gardenia is a hard scent to replicate in perfume because extraction, though possible, is a difficult process. For me this scent is a very sweet floral scent. It’s a little too sweet for me to believe this is gardenia (most likely this is tuberose) because I have several gardenia bushes in my garden, and I know that scent well. It’s one of my favorite floral scents so I tend to be picky with this flower in perfume. I disagree that it’s similar to Jovoy’s Gardez Moi. I own it and I think Gardez Moi is much smoother and more realistic. Nuit Andalouse is definitely above average and wearable, but it also straddles the middle of the road as it’s not complex or unique. Good performance if this scent strikes your fancy and you want to test it.

Unimpressive. The only notes coming through for me are tuberose, vanilla, and ylang ylang, all of which take on a synthetic quality rather quickly. In combination with the usual MDCI DNA, these notes are not all that appealing. 170 something votes for gardenia?? No... I’m not sure whether I’m just overly adept at deciphering between white florals, but there is no a trace of gardenia in this fragrance, this is an unequivocally tuberose forward scent... I’m not head over heels about every scent in MDCI’s lineup, but Ive generally found their fragrances to be consistent in terms of refinement and quality. That isn’t the case for this fragrance, which appears increasingly bathroomy and cheap the more I sit with it. Unfortunately, tuberose is one of those notes where quality is almost always conspicuous, the same can be said about ylang ylang, which tends to smell similar to synthetic banana when inexpensive materials are used. A high quality tuberose vs a poor quality tuberose, to my nose, smells completely different. Synthetic tuberose, which is often described as “bubble gum” sweet (ex. Madonna Truth or Dare) is what’s apparent in this fragrance. I understand well enough how costly it can be to convincingly imitate gardenia in perfumery, however, MDCI is not a house I’d expect to be taking cheap shortcuts. Very disappointing.

Negative reviews are going to be short and sweet - well not sweet exactly . I understand we all have our personal likes and dislikes but I’ve noticed I’m not a fan of sweet florals . I have Isabey - La Route D’Emeruade and I can see why others find this similar . But with La Route I’m in love with the top notes of Bergomot . Wish it lasted longer . La Nuit Andalouse on first spray is predominately orange vanilla and slightly powdery . Can’t smell anything else . So I’ve stopped there . Disappointing

Not a safe blind buy. Sample multiple times before committing. It opens beautifully, which many below attest. However on some skin types (and mine is one of them), the middle notes develop into an untenable screeching mess. I see below that many are trying to put an 'age label' on this by using old lady references. As a middle aged woman I reject this; Nuit Andalouse is too jarring for my liking and at this stage in life I demand harmony.

I used to love this. However, the vanilla is extremely STRONG on my skin, which made me nauseated...I'm not sure whether I'd declutter this or not yet. I found that the combo orangeblossom and vanilla (and creamy sandalwood) makes me very sick. Edit: okay. I decided to declutter it.

Yuck. Like a Sweet Tart. Too sweet, too sour. Not how I want to smell. Pandering to the masses.

Do you want an 80s powerhouse tuberose perfume... without buying an 80s powerhouse tuberose perfume... without paying a reasonable price for an 80s powerhouse tuberose perfume but rather an exorbitant niche price... without getting something of quality like many 80s powerhouse tuberose perfumes... and not something unique but rather nondescript and derivative? Here you go. Nuit Andalouse is a floral vanilla, and a very powerful one at that. You can smell it from space. I was embarrassed for a bit of the time wearing it because I am pretty certain I made my driver nauseous in the car. The bitter hesperidic opening is short lived, and vaguely identifiable by the pyramid. The heart is so heady, sweet, and vanillic that I cannot corroborate gardenia, ylang-ylang, or rose. I get none of the unctuous, fleshy and musky qualities of gardenia, nothing particularly fruity or tropical floral of ylang-ylang, but the rose is as maybe if it’s considered tuberose of the modern variety: whipped cream, sickly sweet, and heady. But it’s the super sweet baking extract of the vanilla that dominates the most. I’m really debating whether or not to wait for the obligatory lactonic sandalwood, soap musk, and vanilla base or scrub this from my skin and be done with it. Gross, unforgivably derivative and crass for a niche brand whose mandate is/was to reinvent classics for modern aesthetics, and most certainly for the price. Just no. Just, don’t do it.

Hefty price tags can create huge expectations that are almost impossible to meet. At $500, the fragrance had better be unique and fabulous. The name Nuit Andalouse references an evening in Les Andalouses on the coast of Algeria. Nuit Andalouse delivers on that fantasy; it's a beautiful sweet floral with a perfect gardenia note. The gardenia is natural smelling without anything plastic or synthetic. The other notes give a rounded fragrance for green and fruit notes, but it's the gardenia that hangs heavy in the air. Overall, this is a very well-structured and well-balanced fragrance. Is it worth that price tag? That's a personal decision. It's a beauty of a fragrance. It evokes the almost narcotic scent of an evening in a garden that fully bloomed in a full day of sun.

A vorpal pillow of tuberose with all the density that tuberose brings. It’s a touch green, freakishly milky, and feels a little suffocating. In fact, it’s so milky that I’m going to assume that the florals were injected with butter and then marinated in whipped cream prior to their transformation into essential oils. It’s an absolute smotherer of a perfume. As with others in the line, it’s a pretty accomplished blend but it’s extremely old-fashioned, and not in a cool way. I can certainly see an audience for this, but it’s one that favors frilly bonnets while teaching cats how to perform scenes from Jane Austen novels. If it’s 18th-century tuberose and powder niceties you’re after, this is the place to look.

This is a gorgeously made parfum. Light, creamy and dreamy. A hint of tuberose, vanilla, orange. I’ve made this my bed time spray because the lasting power is about 5/10. It stays very close to my skin in between the sheets and it’s so comforting. The smell it’self is so divine... I wish it had more longevity.

A another big whiter floral! Sweet, creamy and powdery. I get a hint of a slightly bitter vegetal note, like the note in Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal. The powdery aspect reminds me Isabey Gardenia, which is my all time favourite, only Nuit Andalouse is more a tuberose than gardenia.
