Ithaka

Me oh my oh me oh my!!! I made that jokey comment below clearly satirising philistinism but perhaps I shouldn’t have been so flippant about Ithaka because it’s magic. (As I suspected it would be) Now this still isn’t going to be a ‘proper’ review yet because I only had one little spritz but boy oh boy was I impressed. I was instantly transported, into the poetic narrative behind Mendittorosa’s creations this one didn’t require any thought about composition or anything else for that matter the smell is divine. The incense opening is clearly driven by the sweeter more opulent resins styrax, and very much labdanum to start with. Then a sweetness of vanilla which might just be coming from the warmth of benzoin, all of which is familiar but assembled in a nigh on perfect way, the labdanum dying back and some of the less jagged components making for a mellow drydown. To say this fragrance is perfect at this early stage would be foolish but it’s very very nice indeed and might well be the perfect excuse to get myself one of these fine perfumes. Anyone who loves big warm, resinous, sweet orientals will love this. I love this.

My uneducated nose lacks the skill to describe this. It's glorious. Rich and lasting but also light as air. Creamy but also fresh. The feeling when you sit down with a good bottle of wine and some friends, outside in that golden hour before evening, it's not cold nor hot and time stretches away before you. It smells like that feeling.

Yeah yeah Nima80...that’s all very nice but is it ‘beastmode’ and does it get you compliments? In all seriousness I enjoyed the poem and look forward to explore the relationship and eagerly anticipate my samples when they arrive and I will update with a proper review.

This is magic in a bottle. As perfect as it gets.

A lovely and uplifting floral incense, this is a nice offering from the eclectic Mendittorosa line. The perfume opens briefly with a crisp tarty bergamot before moving to a dense prolonged heart of magnolia flower and incense. As the perfume dries, one can detect notes of patchouli, cypriol, cedar, labdanum and benzoin. Unisex perfume with moderate to strong sillage and projection and good longevity. This definitely has a mystical feeling to it. Enjoy!

I got this sample from Twisted Lily with another order. At first I liked this...but then later on it started to take on a gourmand quality...a bit like an incensed fruity marshmallow. Sillage and longevity are decent. This leans feminine due to the marshmallow vibe I get. Given the general price range of the Mendittorosa line, this one seems like a weak entry, and not worth the $$$

An incensed and more sweet terre d'hermes. Very Good.

Rather overpowering at first - a sensation of drowning in heady spicy notes. The dry down maintains the oppressive mood. I couldn't identify anything distinctive, just a tangle of jungle-heavy dryness, more vetiver than patchouli. The vanilla note endures but the incense is lost along the way, together with any lingering enthusiasm I might have for Ithaka Mendittorosa.

#1630 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this as a decant from scentsplit.com. Not a particularly complex scent, but not like anything I’m familiar with. Feminine, synthetic, with a sour bergamot and an unattractive floral lean to it. Pretty repellant. I would not want to smell this on a woman I was getting close to. This is just not attractive at all. No one should wear this, let alone pay $200 plus for it.

A rightaway uplifting offering from Mendittorosa, this has many details, I love. The bergamot opening soon transitions to a beautifully blended magnolia & incense. The cedar in the drydown is another favourite aspect. Ithaka is an island in Greece & the name means enjoying a journey itself, more than looking at the destination. Wonderful perfume from the house, one of their best. Zingy, bright, with a touch of incense. Bergamot with incense & benzoin makes it very rounded. Fabulous for summer, but also very versatile in other weathers. It has decent performance, very long lasting on my skin. There's something very unique about it, which sets it apart from other freshies. So happy to have found it. Artistic bottle, as usual. Perfectly unisex & just the right perfume when you need a ' pick me up '.

This is unusual compared to my other pefumes. And I have a lot. I really like this. Love the bottle too. Wearing a sample on my wrist during a sunny day in London and I'm transported to a Greek beach in ancient times. I see wooden fishing boats and I smell salty turquoise waters. I think I need a FB
