Amber+Smoke

Upon first spritz, I was greeted with a fresh burst of lemon zest that quickly fades within a minute. What follows is a strong resemblance to Baccarat Rouge 540, characterized by prominent notes of amber and saffron that emerge swiftly. It’s impressive how closely it mirrors BR540, but the true distinguishing feature makes its entrance around the five-minute mark. At this point, a delightful smoky, clean tobacco aroma layers itself onto the fragrance, shifting it toward a unique identity. The smoke is subtly sweet, reminiscent of a rich pipe tobacco that you might find in an elegant gentleman's study. Complementing this smokiness, I detected some green notes that play a crucial role in keeping the scent grounded and steering it away from becoming overly feminine. In terms of performance, Amber+Smoke boasts a strong projection for the first four hours. Even after this initial phase, the scent remains resilient, promising longevity throughout the day, especially when it clings to clothing. However, as with BR540, there’s a chance of becoming nose-blind to it after a while, so I consulted my wife to ensure its presence after eight hours post-application. Ultimately, Amber+Smoke is an ideal choice for those who appreciate Baccarat Rouge 540 but desire something with a more masculine edge. The added smoke and green elements adeptly balance the fragrance’s initial sweetness, making it quite wearable for men.

The initial opening is a semi-sweet floral scent with a very slight undertone of citrus coming from the Lemon note. At 15 minutes the floral notes (Orange Blossom) is coming through with greater presence now and providing a greater sweetness, but I am also starting to get some of the Amber and Tobacco. At 30 minutes I am getting a nice blend of the Amber and Tobacco notes along with a undertone of white florals. 60 minutes into the wear, the fragrance continues to settle on my skin and I am into the base notes now. What I am picking up the most is the sweetness from the Sugar note along with some of the Amber which is still present. The fragrance has settled down significantly on my skin and I am getting a slightly sweet Amber scent with some undertones of Tobacco. I am 2.5 hours into the wear and I have not picked up the smoke note yet. Performance: Projection of this fragrance is Fair with the frangrance creating a scent bubble of about 2 feet but only for about 90 minutes. The sillage is also Fair with a scent trail of about 2+ feet for about 90 minutes as well. Longevity is OK with the fragrance lasting on my skin about 5 to 6 hours, but becoming a skin scent at about 3 hours.

Do not be tricked by the name. It's sugar and lots of it. Imagine sugar granules wrapping around you in midair. A curtain of smoke lays beneath. A juicy zest is present at the beginning. The drydown is pleasant and beautiful! Yes, this is a take on the BR540 profile that is done beautifully. This is fit for men to use, so long as the man is open to smelling a tad femme. If you are a gourmand lover, this is for you. I won't go full dessert/beverages on mine, but this is done and blended well, like Mancera's Xplicit Vanilla. The mood is happy and energetic. This is perfect at the start of the day. This slowly gained my love because I was hesitant of wanting to exude a sugar cloud. This is fragrance for the sake of fun and joy. Projection is good. Longevity is also good; it lasted 8 hours and still left hints of itself after. This is especially exemplary of quality since not all Michael Malul fragrances hit the mark on performance. Similar DNA to MM Sangria +. The sugar and uplifted mood make this one worth it and better over others in the + line.. A good job from the house. Now, they just have to maintain through consistency!

I have a sample of this and tried it on skin today. At first got a mixture of grand soir MFK and Smoking Hot By Killian, then later on in the dry down I got a very nice mixture of the smoking hot and Baccarat Rouge 540 MFK (I only have & the extrait so Im not sure if its more similar to the eau de parfum) Very long lasting as well, writing this around 11 hours after applied to skin and I still can smell it, very very nice fragrance.

LOVE this frag! Smells HEAVENLY! As a man, I like this one better than BR540 with the smokiness. Smells like caramel-saffron-smoky BOMB! Was happier when I saw the perfumer is the same one who created Althair by Parfums De Marly and I love both a lot. My go to winter frag with a ton of compliments. This one even lasts longer than BR540, nuclear silage, test it in store before buying as can be too sweet/too subtle for someone.

Resemblance to BR540 but one word...Tobacco. This definitely makes this its own unique thing. The Smokey vibe is stunning on the skin. Nice moss notes linger. Loving this and I can still use my BR540 when the mood strikes. Win Win.

This was my first encounter with a Michael Malul fragrance and I was impressed. I sampled in the store and bought it off the shelf. It's so good. It's what it's name says: Amber and Smoke. Office safe and very pleasant.

This is better then BR 540, everyone has BR 540 spray, I have try it out at the mall, only to last one Hour! but this Fragents, right here, Amber Smoke has lasted 12 hours on my shirt and 9 hours on my skin.

Extremely enormous range on this. If you spray more than 3 you’re going to end up nauseous in an enclosed room. Very powerful and earthy 10/10 would recommend.

I got a travel spray of this from the monthly discovery subscription that Michael Malul has on their website (which is actually a better value than a lot of the other subscription services, if you dig Michael Malul's stuff) so I was going in blind. I only knew the name Amber + Smoke. I was expecting something dark and heavy like Tom Ford's Eben Fume. It definitely was not that. It is surprisingly fresh and sweet with fruity and floral notes. Very pleasant, but if you are looking for heavy amber and smoke, that ain't it, kid.

Smells like BR540 with some smoke and tobacco thrown in. Which tones down the overall sweetness of the scent making it more male leaning. Its pretty good. Long lasting, not nuclear projection but it has enough to make itself known and imo, nuclear for a scent like this can be offensive. Overall an easy 7/10 for me. Its a decent value for what you're getting and if you find the sweetness in BR540 to be cloying, this takes some of that away.

Gorgeous sweet jammy saffron in the opening very similar BR540. Warm amber accord with a slight smokiness and soft sweet tobacco notes. Sugar being listed in this makes sense bc it is very sweet but not in a gourmand way. I pick up the oak moss and pine which offer some woodiness but in an untraditional sense. The BR540 aspect remains constant throughout the scent but I personally don’t go nose kind to it as I do with BR540

First time I smelled this scent I loved it, a light sweet Smokey scent that you can wear anytime. I feel like you can go nose blind to this scent very quickly.

Smokey BR540 which I love. I always felt the OG was too sweet so for me personally Amber+smoke is more wearable. Nice stuff for a cool evening date night.

Lets just say its not my thing. there is an awkward sweetness to it mixed with saffron, on a base of smoke and tobacco. Probably good if you like sweet spicy tobacco, but not for me. Its good quality, as one would expect from Michael Malul, but its a bit headache inducing for myself. But i'm just a cat at the end of the day.

Not particularly masculine, the scent becomes tiresome after a while. Very sweet and linear. Packed it off to the gym... I don't know what Baccarat smells like, but this is not a high-class, refined scent. Different? Yes. Memorable? Maybe for someone else.

It's been a while since I've smelled this, but from what I remember this was straight up bad. I say that it's been a while because somebody I know bought it, and then returned it after we both determined it sucked. First off, it shouldn't be called amber + smoke, it should be called sugar + smoke, because the sugar in this fragrance is very artificial sweetner-like and overpowers everything else. The rest of the notes feel like a cover up so that you can wear a sugar-bomb fragrance without feeling bad about it. If you're going to wear a sugar-bomb, just own it- at least you'll smell pleasent. You don't need to wear whatever this thing is.

Honestly really disappointed. It smells like a remixed version of baccarat rouge 540. Smells like a woman. Not much smoke or amber at all. Not at all masculine as I thought it would be. Sillage is super close to the skin, doesn’t project. I’m giving this to my mom cause this thing just sucks for a man.

Is it a safe blind acquisition for the classical purist? Manifestly not. For the connoisseur whose wardrobe is anchored by the austere dry down of vetiver, the bitterness of cuir, or the crisp precision of a traditional barbershop lavender, the opulent, jammy sweetness of the opening may prove quite jarring to the sensibilities. It is an unapologetically contemporary composition, blurring conventional masculine boundaries through its use of a prominent, gossamer jasmine and rich, sugared accords. For the gentleman who appreciates the nuance of modern, avant-garde blending, however, Amber+Smoke emerges as a stellar acquisition for the cooler months. It finds its perfect expression on crisp autumn evenings, formal winter engagements, or relaxed nocturnal outings where one desires to project an aura of effortless, approachable luxury. Ultimately, it serves as a potent reminder that a fragrance need not entirely rewrite the laws of perfumery to be utterly captivating—on occasion, it simply requires the wisdom to add a little smoke to the fire.

I would describe it as a much quieter, smokier, earthier BR540. Not a clone of BR540 but more of a different take with the BR540 DNA in there. Opening - Jammy, more syrupy, not as fresh as BR540, warm, smoke heavy. Drydown is where this perfume shines the best. Smokey, hint of leather, pine tar, sweet amber, woody. Dont get it twisted though: it is sweet. Fades into a smokey powdery moss. Smoke still present but in the background. Smoke is present in all phases of this perfume, to varying degrees: ● Heavy in the beggining but not center stage ● Main character in the drydown with sweet amber supporting ● Moss comes in late and with smoke phasing out Longevity - 6-8 hours, 2-3 of those last hours becomes skin scent Sillage & projection - Medium doesn't fill the room but it doesn't go unnoticed. Quality perfume; gorgeous bottle and presentation. Great, long press atomizer that shoots a very fine mist. I personally love the perfume but wished that performance was a small fraction better in terms of the sillage and projection.

Smoke + Amber, created by the same perfumer who worked on Althaïr, is an absolute masterpiece. As many have noted, it’s more of a sugary concoction than a tobacco-heavy fragrance. While it does have some baccarat influences and is incredibly similar to Club du Nuit Untold by Armaf, the Malul fragrance captures the DNA of the original scent by adding depth and nuance, while avoiding the loud and synthetic feel. It sits closer to skin and dosent leave an over whelming sillage causing this scent to be more intimate rather then a loud room filling scent. The saffron in this fragrance is incredibly rich and more bitter than sweet, creating a good contrast with the sugary blend that makes Baccarat what it is.

A lighter more masculine leaning BR540 with a honey note. Good for special occasions.

On paper smells like BR 540 On skin it’s mossy with a rosemary and Lemon zest.
