Editor in Chief

Y'know how when a band combines multiple genres it is usually a disjointed mess? But then there's a band like Sleep Token who combines 3 or more genres with seamless perfection. I'm not even a fan really, but have to admit they do what they do well. Editor in Chief, now this...THIS I am a huge fan of. Perfumer Richard Herpin pulls off a Sleep Token and masterfully combines the best parts of so many different fragrances: Interlude Man (the wonderful ambery incense), Layton (camphoraceous apple and vanilla) Tobacco Vanille and African Leather (honeyed tobacco, cloves, cedar and patchouli) and even a splash of Gucci Guilty Elixir (a beautiful thick leathery orris woven into core) while never feeling like a clone of any of them. Elegant. Nuanced. Great longevity and the high end of moderate projection - just perfect for the scent profile. If it was more beastly it would lose its classiness. Easier to wear than all of the above, too. A real masterclass in perfumery. Opens with a ton of clove and apple and immediately a rich orris and camphor laden woody tobacco backdrop and an appreciable amount of clean smoke (not woodsmoke) and a beautiful hint of pencil shavings. Imagine Layton + clove cigarettes. Over 3 or 4 hours it transitions to something like Interlude Man minus the oregano and instead with the rich floralcy of Guilty Elixir, with the tobacco from Tobacco Vanille still lingering in the background. The rich cedar is more prominent now and along with vanilla and patchouli there are echoes of African Leather here, too. It fades slowly from here and really the whole thing is linear in the sense of no truly major transitions. Despite this, it feels ever changing because the main threads of the fragrance (honeyed pipe tobacco, clove cigarettes, camphor cedar & orris, the Interlude-esque amber) - like tendrils of some holy incense smoke - keep slowly shifting and interweaving in kaleidoscopic ways. Incredible. My prediction is this will eventually be raved about once people give this a chance and look past the Michael Malul name. Perfumer Richard Herpin once again shows his genius.

I really like this one. I know the note breakdown doesn't include any resins but I can really smell some unburned incense in the base note that lingers throughout the lifetime of the scent, like a wet resin that holds all the notes together. The birch also accentuates the profile with a whiff of smoke, very subtle, and some subtle sweetness from a combined vanilla and sandalwood note (creamy style, not Javanol). This is a toned down/milder Amouage Interlude. While Interlude is a masterpiece, this can be more wearable IMHO. This is not a child's toy lol, no teens here, it's not a fruity vanilla bomb. This is a dressed up confident man style of fragrance, modern, dark, and elegant. I am getting a full bottle...two samples are out. Woods and papers, fresh white papers in a shiny wood box, touched and handled by a beautiful lady (that's where the trace of iris is coming from) in a gentleman's office, and it's fresh cool rainy fall morning. It is smokey, yet not, sweet, yet not, resinous, yet not, and almost creamy, but not. Well done Mr. Harpin.

Finally got my hands on this one - and I am just as happy as the first time I smelled this DNA. Opening is offensively spiced (I enjoy that) with the apple and patchouli playing off eachother in the back of my nose. A whisp of smoke; fresh burn,not charred cedars and aromatics. Sloppy boozey drop tied in tobacco and musk - think billiards bar that used to have a smoking section, but tried to clean it away, and everyone is wearing a musky vanilla something or the other. Without that spicy open, it'd be just another leathery, tobacco, masc mass appealing fragrance - but paired with that apple and clove.. man it reminds me of 2023 Bath and Body works' Wild Wanderer - one of the most incredible DNAs B&BW has put out, just with vanilla and musk added in. It is always moving in and out of spice to smoke to soft vanill. Give this one a chance yall.

Really like this. It's genuinely unique, very different from anything else I have. It's a dark scent (I'd describe it as evoking a deep gray-green) and lasts a solid 8 hours. I'd say it fits best at night and is definitely for colder weather–I wore it for the first time in a warm indoor environment (five sprays!) and nauseated myself a little bit. Three or four is fine indoors, because it's strong. With clove, apple, and cinnamon on top, maybe you'd expect a gourmand apple pie scent. It is very much not that. It is smoky, spicy, and exotic... heavy. It's mature, but not "old man". More of a mysterious kind of mature, a commanding and confident air. It's not going to be everyone's flavor, particularly if you're only into sweet or fresh scents, but I'd highly recommend.

FROM the esquire line, I received this scent, modern poet and cartoonist. Modern poet was a surprisingly good freshie but this one stole the show. This is good! Boozy, cinnamon ,slightly spiced powder. Seriously got fragrance envy over not having the bigger bottle of this one. It lasts too. Scent radiates about an arms length for quite a while. Just to add depth and punch, my 2nd wearing i paired it with PDM Herod and man do they play off each other well. Anyway-- you smell the apple faintly in the back. Nice spices from the cinnamon and clove and a touch of freshness. I was thinking about reaching for Memo African leather on a cool Fall day but no thanks...me and the Editor are about to spend a little more time together! 4.3 out 5 Nice surprise scent!

This is absolutely stunning, in my personal opinion. I have over 400+ fragrances both niche and designer. My girlfriend picked this out in a playful way because at first, she didn't like it and thought I would feel the same. I was pleasantly shocked of what this fragrance embodies. IT IS THE DRY DOWN, that one my girlfriend. She loves it, just like me. It is a statement fragrance. You will get asked, what you are wearing!!!! When I tested it, I was wearing a fitted trench, with nice business casual jogger set. It's versatile but solely up to the wearer. You make it demand it's attention. :-)

A very nice smoky and warm woodsy smell. The opening is apple and cinnamon but it's not sweet. The cloves mixed in make it a warm, spicy and dry apple if that makes sense. Dries down to patchouli and birch wood. And boy does it last forever. I sprayed it at 1 in the afternoon and am still getting whiffs of it at 11:30 at night! It projects moderate to strong depending on how many sprays you do. Really nice ambery smell with smoky woods. Absolutely addictive and great for winter!

Love the way it smells, but hate how terribly it performs.

I just received this today as a blind buy. It is not for me. It is a synthetic, incensy, smoky and slightly earthy fragrance. I think you probably have to be dealing with higher quality individual ingredients to pull something like this off successfully. I would give it a 5.5/10 and a Fragrantica score of 3.75.

Nice apple note mixed with cloves and cinnamon. Opening hints of a gourmand apple pie fragrance. However, it never really goes the gourmand route. It is basically a woody-amber fragrance with a touch of sweetness. Hard to hate, but too basic and youthful for me.

Not for everyone, and definitely not for me. Incredible house though! 4.1/10 Edit: went back to my decant, and I'm really enjoying it! 6.9/10

Smoky and earthy, sensual and eye catching. Lovely gift for a badass guy :)

Gorgeous scent that doesn't last! A scent that runs parallel to the deep and sultry alleys on the lower channels of the olfactory range. The scent molecules drift downwards and settle into their natural gravity. The spice and casherman stands out. This is a masculine and sophisticated scent that screams dominance at first but then settles comfortably. It is a declaration but a short-lived one. Test first. Not consistent of quality from this house.

Beautiful scent profile that's full of disappearing acts 1-2 hours of skin scent is what you'll get, well at least on skin.

The moment it hit my skin, Editor in Chief came out swinging—woody, boozy, and unapologetically loud. It doesn’t whisper; it shouts in a dark, heavy tone that’s almost oppressive. The scent profile feels like stumbling into a dimly lit cigar lounge after one too many drinks—rich, heady, and overbearing. For me, it crossed the line from bold to borderline nauseating.

This is some of the best stuff ever! I did my research on the notes, read some reviews, found it for THE LOW and pulled the trigger. Maaaaaaaaan, WHAT A FIND!!! Soft but prominent spice on top, faint and creamy sweet on bottom, this is one that can be worn by itself or layered with a multitude of other fragrances. I wasn’t expecting this to be as good as it is, I’m likely going to invest in another full bottle before the house decides to reformulate it. As it is now, it’s one worth paying retail price for

This is a man dressed in a suit and apron in the kitchen, he's wearing a base of oud and baking a spiced apple pie. the fragrance goes a little dry wood paste-y in the dry down. watch my daily reviews on IG @scentstylist

It's very similar to Amouage Interlude...it's the little brother Not a bad scent, but wasn't anything spectacular
