Terra Nova

Anyone who's calling this "some YouTuber's shitty cologne" clearly hasn't bothered to try this on their skin and let it actually dry down at all. Put the YouTuber collab and brand and presentation aside, when you compare this juice to, say, an equivalently priced offering from, say, YSL, it honestly holds its own. This must have been designed based on how it smells in air where everyone else picks it up in your silage, rather than up close where you will be smelling it as someone obsessed with perfume. That's a good thing! Try not to judge based on how it smells to you when you shove your nose into where you sprayed it, that's not how anyone else experiences it unless you're sharing an intimate moment with someone and they happen to put their head in the spot you applied it. By the time that happens it'll have had plenty of time to dry down to smell great to them. Judge it based on how it comes across in the air as it eminates off you, once it's dry and mellowed. The complexity doesn't come out until the dry down The citrus is extremely strong in the opening and drowns everything else out, but it has to be this strong in the opening to get it to last throughout the life of the fragrance. Luckily, when I say the citrus is strong, I don't mean it's anything at all like Club de Nuit or anything else with a similarly sharp screechy citrus. Terra Nova's citrus is smooth rounded and full bodied, just very strong in the beginning for longevity's sake. Clearly a lot of thought went into this fragrance on the perfumer's part and it's very well designed to smell good to those around you and leave a positive impression. We're all so spoiled being able to find YSL or most other designers under their MSRP. But if Chanel can command $135 for the original allure homme, and YSL can charge $155 for MYSLF then this is not so crazy to ask $129 for the same amount of Terra Nova. Yes, it's objectively expensive, but not compared to other fragrances of similar quality. Is it groundbreaking? No, this is a very safe scent. It's similar to many other designer scents out there for a similar price. It was designed to be a pleasant mass appealing fragrance with good performance without being too strong with a slight twist (to the average nose, not necessarily to a fragrance enthusiast) when compared with the typical designer scents. And when you look at it that way, it's an excellent piece of work.

I love this stuff. When I catch whiffs of it throughout the day, it brings to mind a strong honeyed black tea over an amber foundation with a bit of freshness around the edges. It lasts a good long time for me, single spray for the office and a couple on my off days. I tend toward classic style fragrances, not full on barber shop stuff but that general area, and my wife tends to like blue style frags on me (which I hate), and she absolutely loves this one. I put it on today, and she said "I love that on you so much. I can't get over how unique it smells, while still smelling amazing." I don't know if being "mainstream" means not having any objectionable or difficult to live with notes in the fragrance or what, but if that's the case, then sure, this is mainstream. Doesn't smell like anything I've smelled before though. Some background: I started into fragrances to find a few I really liked a couple years ago. Started following a couple YTers, Ash being one of them, started buying samples and bottles. Discovered a few things about my preferences. I hate blue fragrances generally. I don't like iris. I dislike fragrances that are described as "soapy" or having white florals, as that scent is very pungent to my nose. I really like vetiver, I like natural-ish smelling fragrances, and the difference in quality between CDNIM and Aventus is stark and enough to make me consider Aventus. Lucky me, I like Mancera Cedrat Boise better. Also, GIT is the only clean freshie I can abide. If I like the scent well enough, I will always spend the money on the better representation. I didn't care for Jet Black Enigma. It's a good scent, but I don't like cardamom enough to put it in rotation. Decided to give his other releases a try, and this was a clear winner. I have samples of the perfumer's big hit, Layton, plus some of the alternate takes like Jet Black Platinum and White in Black (my fav, PDM's has a similar sour woody note that I don't care for in Aventus, prob my skin chemistry), and I can definitely smell the similarities in scent profile to Layton in Terra Nova. It's like watching Atomic Blonde after seeing John Wick, that kind of similarity. I definitely get that not everyone's going to love it like I do, but if anything in my journey sounds familiar, give it a shot!

#1627 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is the first of six Michael Malul fragrances I got as 2ml sprayettes from scentswithsence.com. I am impressed! One of the best freshies I've encountered. I'd put this on par with Dior "Eau Sauvage Parfum". It's crisp, green, lightly floral, a slight and pleasant sour note from the lemon leaf. Second fragrance I've found which is acceptable man juice that combines violet and lotus, the first being Salvatore Ferragamo's "Subtil Pour Homme." That Ferragamo is in this same ballpark, and I'd have kept it in my collection if it came in an EDP (the EDT was too "Subtil" on performance for me. Terrible actually.). Longevity and projection for most freshies is moderate, but this is better than most, and one can't wear myrrh and agarwood all the time. I think a scent like this is a must for formal office wear, formal events, and the price, while not a bargain, is not crazy. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

This fragrance is exquisite! I haven't smelled Tygar or any of its clones before, but I was completely blown away by how well balanced and beautiful this fragrance is! I layer it with Molecule 01 and it adds an extra dimension of soft creamy cedar. The performance isn't mind blowing, but it's very unique from all of the fragrances in my 40+ bottle collection. The patchouli really shine under a dense forest of wood and citrus notes. Excellent quality and I'm not surprised to see the same nose behind PDM Layton was behind this. I have also layered it with a Thameen Carved Oud clone (Alhambra Crafted Oud) with great success. I see a lot of people saying this fragrance is suited to any occasion, I disagree with that slightly as even though there are some fresh notes, I don't think this is suitable for humid hot days. This is certainly a complex scent that exudes confident masculinity. 9/10

The first time Terra Nova wafted into my nostrils, I was all, "Wow, this smells amazing!" But then, my brain started doing that thing where it knows it's smelled this party before but can't remember whose house it was at. Finally, it hit me - Afternoon Swim! I didn't bother with a side-by-side, but if you're into smelling like you've just leapt into a pool of Afternoon Swim, Terra Nova's possibly your ticket. And about Tygar - I gave it a sniff once upon a time. Liked it, but now I'm thinking it probably sneaks into the same fragrance family reunion. Terra Nova isn't cheap, but it is cruising in the same exclusive neighborhood as Tygar and Afternoon Swim, cheaper than those!

Had a chance to test this today we just started carrying it at my work. I really like this one at first it starts really bold woody citrus.. almost a little pledgey.. that quickly fades tough.. honestly personally on me I kept saying omg that smells familiar what is that.. then it dawned to me it smelled like a men’s version of Dylan Turquoise.. or it’s smelled like Dylan turquoise with more woods.. I mean everyone smells things differently.. but yeah I really enjoy this one.. I mean I rarely dislike any of Maluls scent though..

I’m impressed! This isn’t something that resembles any of my other fragrances and I like it. It has a very pleasant woody smell that has just the right amount of sweetness. I’m sensing a bit a a classic smell to it. It’s unique. I’m not exactly sure what the prominent note is but I find it intriguing! I just got the limited 15 ml sample for $14.95. Price per ml it’s still more expensive than most of the stuff I owned so I was hoping that I wouldn’t be dissatisfied. I’m happy with the purchase!

Terra Nova smells really good! I’ve never smelled the LV, or the Tirathi, or the Tygar that this apparently copies so I’m fortunate in not have anything this compares to. This is very citrus in the opening but in a light manner and over time this settles down. It’s not strong. It has a lightness that can be smelled, but not forced. On my skin this projected for 3-4 hours and I got about 8 hours. This lasts pretty long and on clothes you will get whiffs of this for an entire day.

Changed from like to love today. I wore this today after going through bottles I haven't touched in a while. I started (hungering thirsting?) Wanting to smell this. The thing where you keep thinking about a fragrance over and over and you just have to wear it. That's what it did today with Terra Nova. A nice sweet citrus/patchouli-ish fragrance. Really glad I rediscovered it.

Just bought it this weekend. I have to say the first time I smelled it, I didn't like it. Don't know if it was the test strip or what. Smelled it Saturday and I really liked it. Bought it and got it on my skin this morning. WOW!! Lasting still since 6:30 this morning so its been over 9 hours, and I'm just loving the smell.

This is one of the best fragrances I’ve ever smelled. I’m not the biggest fan of Michael malul but i am a fan of gent scents so I had to check this out. Idk what it is about this but omg it’s so addictive and it makes me want to wear it every day. I may have to check out Tygar now. HIGHLY recommend this frag

A very punchy citrus top note that lasts a good while. Almost a cross between mango and grapefruit ( I know mango is not a citrus but just saying.) Dries down to a very nice day scent. Not huge on citrus heavy frags but I love this one. I would have to say full bottle worthy.

I love the smell of this, it might be my favourite in my collection based purely on scent, I feel like it suits any occasion or season, very versatile, sadly it doesn’t perform very well considering the price, that won’t stop me wearing it tho, I genuinely love it!

Tygar on a budget and a more refined and less lasting version of Turathi Blue. If I'm looking for performance, I'd go for TB, If I'm looking for refined and quality, I'd go for TN, If I'm looking for all of the above, I'd go for Tygar

This immediately reminded me of Turathi Blue by Afnan. That scent is inspired by Bvlgari Tygar, which I know assume smells like these two. Very nice scent, lots of citrus and Ambroxan followed by the amber...... very nice scent.

@Darkstar _ Destroyer I don’t think it’s the perfumer. The guy made Layton, Sedley, Percival, Pegasus. A lot of great fragrances.

While it is by no means a groundbreaking scent, this has maybe my favorite opening of anything I’ve smelled up to this point

Ok, i never tried bulgari tygar but terra nova is great. This is very elegant and versatile iMO.

Upon first spritz, the scent bursts forth with a vibrant citrus note reminiscent of sweet, sun-ripened grapefruit. It's as if I’m savoring a breakfast of juicy grapefruit, lightly dusted with sugar—a delightful treat to wake up the senses. This initial explosion of citrus closely mirrors the aroma of my bottle of Turathi Blue from Afnan. In fact, they felt like long-lost twins, about 90% alike, with the primary distinction being that Turathi boasts a more commanding projection than Terra Nova. About ten minutes in, I began to detect a rich, woody undertone intertwined with earthy nuances, evoking the essence of Terre d'Hermes. This intriguing combination of zesty citrus mingling with earthy depths lingered on my skin for roughly thirty minutes. Gradually, Terra Nova unveiled its unique character, diverging from both Turathi and Hermes. The dry down reveals a soft embrace of powdery vanilla and warm woods, creating a comforting finish. Overall, the fragrance is undeniably pleasing, evoking smiles with each whiff. However, I must admit a twinge of disappointment over its striking similarity to Turathi and the Tygar DNA. The glaring difference lies in performance: while Turathi projects powerfully and endures over six hours on my skin, Terra Nova only radiates vibrantly in the first 30 minutes to an hour. After that, it settles close to the skin, and I couldn’t catch a whiff of it after the fourth hour. In a fair assessment, Terra Nova would be an excellent fit for anyone seeking an office-friendly version of the Tygar DNA—subtle yet sophisticated.

I enjoy this one a lot. I like the combo of uplifting notes with the sweeter portion of the fragrance. I guess it’s the patchouli, I don’t know for certain. I don’t feel it’s really tonka heavy, but it has this nice warm, soft sweetness, not the typical fresh sweetness that’s in fragrances like YSL Y, Light Blue Eau Intense, or things of that nature. I wouldn’t dare spend niche prices on this, I would love a bottle at under $80 but I get it. I recommend grabbing the $15 15ml bottle now though, for that price it’s cool without having to commit to a full bottle. Longevity to me has been decent, I don’t start a stop watch or anything, but it lasts me a work day. The Ambroxen helps it push in a nice way, isn’t over powering like some Ambroxen fragrances. I actually would love to hit the fast forward button and get me a Terra Nova Intense/Extreme. If the sweeter/warmer/deeper notes in this were more present or amped up, I would absolutely love it even more. Overall I recommend giving it a go, why not for $15. I enjoy giving back to someone who has helped aid and direct my journey, say what you will about YouTubers/Influencers in this field, they have helped me get into this game and I’m forever grateful for it. In conclusion you’ll get a fresh, slightly warm and soft fragrance that has decent performance. Great combo of ideals for a fragrance, now amp it up for us.

Just got this scent in 3 days ago. I’ve been wearing it since. If I’m being realistic, it’s alright, I’m not trying to be a killjoy. This scent reminds me very closely of Lhomme Ideals line. In any case, it doesn’t feel like anything drastically new was brought to the table. It falls far short from the likes of Jet Black Enigma. I absolutely love that frag. Sadly my rating for Terra Nova isn’t as positive as I’d hoped. Longevity: 4/10 (This is very disappointing, for the price that MM asks, it should be far better.) Projection: 6/10 ( Projection is decent, not loud but not too subtle either.) Uniqueness: 5/10 (If I’m paying 120 for this, I’m better off getting a bottle of Lhomme ideal for 60-70ish) Price: 2/10 (This is what disappointed me the most, MM asking too much for too little. This frag should only be in the 60-80$ zone at best.) Overall: 4.5/10 (Nothing new was brought to the table, and although the scent smells refined, the price point is not justified.)

Alright, I know it's crazy.. and I'm a little congested from recently being sick, but my sense of smell is still pretty good right now.. have any of you smelled Cremo Distiller's Blend? It's a $20< fragrance they have on Amazon and whatnot, sometimes target. I honestly can't get out of my head that this smells SO so similar to Cremo Distiller's Blend. Yes, a little more complex and expensive smelling, but not by much honestly. Very weird take but if I had Cremo Distiller's Blend, it projects a bit better and is a much better price point.. I'd probably just use that. I love Ash's videos and he's done a lot for my journey but I kinda regret not picking up the Jet Black Enigma, I liked that darkness & slight oud in it. Overall impressed with the fragrance, just probably won't reach for it honestly.

$140 Clone of 1, Bvlgari Tygar $350 (2016, made by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier, who was many Bvlgari fragrance perfumer, and now LV in-house perfumer) 2, LV l'immensite $290 (2018, a clone of Tygar, also made by JC) 3, LV Afternoon swim $290 (2019, also a clone of Tygar, also made by JC) 4, Afnan Turathi $36 (2021, also a clone of Tygar, pure clone) This is the fifth brother in the line. Done by one of my favorite perfumer Hamid. Good scent but not unique. Just go for $36 Afnan. Hamid and Ashton, you guys can do better than this. I still love you. Good scent but not unique nor good price. 7.6/10

Opens a bit like Terre D’Hermes and dries down somewhat similar to Hermes Voyage. Both are DNAs I enjoy, so I do like this a bit, just don't love it. Glad I got the travel size on special, as I don't find it full bottle worthy at the full price. If the full bottle was in the 60 dollar range, I'd call it a decent buy, especially if you have nothing from the Terre or Voyage lines from Hermes. If you own either of them, this isn't going to wow you, in my opinion.

This fragrance is, as others have previously said, much more than a YouTuber cash in. There's definitely a passing resemblance to Tygar-esque fragrances. To my nose, this smells very similar to Spirit of Kings when it's had a couple hours to dry down. This also reminds me of Green Irish Tweed during the opening hour of the scent. I decided to get this once the discontinuation was announced by Ash. I also got West Loop, no regrets.

My favorite of Ash's new releases with M.M. It has a very sweet and fruity start (almost like P.O.G for those of you that have been to Hawaii), but that steps back at dry down. It's replaced by a slightly earthy, woody, and fruity scent that's not too out there but quite pleasant. I don't love it, but its a nice and safe fragrance, easy reach and office friendly.

Pretty damn good. Manly woody scent. A little lemony and green. Don't have anything negative to say about this, I don't have anything that smells like this, unique scent that you cannot go wrong with. Definitely happier with this than Blue Ridge, all blue ridge did was copy YSL Y EDP.

A really nice warm, citrus forward summer scent that is pretty much a dead wringer for Rue Broca Theoreme which I already have. It's certainly gunning for that Tygar DNA if perhaps with a more pronounced sandalwood note.

Fresh off the top. The mid/base transitions into the scent of like a fresh pack of cigarettes or fresh cut tobacco filler. Light and airy where you will get wafts throughout the day. Very versatile and enjoyable.

Woody (almost oak woody), bit dark but also slightly citrusy sweet. Not bad, that's about it.

This smells like Bleu de Chanel EDP with just a little less citrus.

Decent enough frag, that's about it really, you've no doubt smelled this a dozen times by a dozen other houses. I bought it to support Ash at Gents Scents as he's really helped me to find some gems over the years, plus saved me money on others. If it was around the $60 dollar mark I'd think that's fair, and just about worth it. For twice that though it's just not worth buying, the scent is quite nice, but the performance is atrocious. I was considering getting the other two, but it's a definite swerve now considering this is rated the best of all of them. Sorry, Ash. Maybe next time you collab, make longevity more of a focus, heck knows you slam other fragrances that don't have any, as you should, as we all should when any scent is over the £/$100 mark. You kind of expect poor to average from a 20-50 fragrance, maybe allow it when it's a 50-100 fragrance IF it's also a wonderful scent (D&G make a lot of these) but well over a ton for something that's just OK yet also has terrible performance, well that's inexcusable really. Did he not test all these before they went to market? I think if this wasn't linked to GS, it'd have been dead on arrival, having a fan base definitely helps - look at Office for an example, another decent enough scent but totally forgettable. It's a real shame, after watching him for years and seeing what he likes, admires and recommends, I was really expecting some absolute bangers, or at least one. Heck, I'd have been happy if he'd just copied Gucci Envy with a modern twist.

It took me a minute to put my finger on which fragrance this reminded me of. I know I’ve smelled it before. Then it dawned on me: it’s Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre from ELDO!!! It has that same ambroxan, patchouli, floral brightness MINUS the rose. I know the ELDO also has the petrichor feel to it as well which I can pick up here. I think Blue Ridge smells closer to BdC than this one does. Lasts a good long while but only to about arms length. A good fragrance just not for me.

What this reminded me of is my dad’s work truck and how if kind of smelled equal parts chew, fuel, and farts. Combine that with a whiff off a freshly opened bottle of southern comfort and you have what this frag smells like. Dunno if I like it or not.

Alright, so this one is an exact replica of Afnan's Turathi Blue. If you dont know, Turathi Blue is a clone of Bvlgari Tygar, so this is a clone of a clone... Its not a bad scent, but its not a good scent either. If you already have one of these three scents, no need to get the others.

This is very clearly a clone of Tygar. Smells good, but longevity is super poor.

Of Jet Black, Blue Ridge, and Terra Nova, it was TN that made the quickest impression and has proven to be an incredible fragrance to me. It does have great similarities to LV L’Immensité and I’ve never smelled Tygar, but I’d wager it’s similar as well. I’m thinking how I would be able to tell L’Immensite and TN apart blindly and it would be tough, with the former having a classic labdanum base note that you can find in Sauvage as well, and TN having a more aqautic-like ambergris finish that remains super polished but still unmistakably familiar. Like in frags such as L’Immensite, Imagination, Tygar, Sauvage, Terra Nova possesses bright invigorating citrus notes that pop magnified by heavy ambroxan and it’s just absolutely gorgeous, but still ultimately different. If you are a big fan of LV freshies in particular you will absolutely freaking love this. Edit 5/20: Got a great price on a completely fb and I feel like a beast. The atomizers on these bottles feel so incredible and luxurious to utilize and are also efficient...and it’s not fair to Terra Nova to neglect mentioning the weird moan-like noise I made when smelling that first spray from the new bottle..could go on but at risk of scaring anyone any more I’ll just end with that. Edit 6/1/24: how did I write this long review comparing Terra Nova to other Louis Vuitton frags but not mention Afternoon Swim?? I still get the similarities to the previous LVs I mentioned but there is without a doubt a heavy AS influence too that may be the most prominent. Legitimately like a combo of Afternoon Swim, Imagination, and L’Immensite 🔥🔥🔥

Finally got my hands on this one. I have most of the Michael Malul line now. Terra Nova is up there for best smelling and I absolutely love the dna. Vibrato, Tygar and Turathi blue are all in my top. So, smell preference of mine is obvious. If you like the ones I listed, you will love how these smells. Now if you want my advice I would pass on this. Turathi blue lasts longer and projects better even though Terra nove smells a tad bit better with a very light sweet fruity under the bright citrus and fresh spiciness that dominates this dna. Vibrato is special. if you love this DNA than thats the one to get if you have the money, but Turathi blue is the one you will use. Tygar is way too expensive for me and ive only ever had a sample and its not worth it to me. I haven't given up on Terra Nove yet, I'm trying it with fractionated coconut oil to get anything out of it but currently on skin it lasts around 2 hours and not long on clothes either which has me thinking the oil will not help. i will update if my opinion changes.

Terra Nova What can I say about this scent gents? 😆 I will keep this simple. If you like Tygar or Vibrato you are going to appreciate this one. This is not a clone of either Terra Nova it's its own thing, and I can say that’s why I think I like this one a little better. It has that blast of citrus in the opening like Tygar, and Vibrato that draws you in, and it does stick with you most of the life of the fragrance. The difference here it has a floral facet, a very light sweetness from the sandalwood, and tonka bean at the dry down. Terra Nova does sit a little closer to the skin, but you will get a decent scent bubble, with an incredible sillage. It's versatile and long-lasting. Performance 8/10 Projection 8/10 (Medium 1-1-1/2hrs) Longevity 9/10 (7-10hrs) I was able to pick my bottle up (in-store) for $40 at Perfumania. Online will say it's out of stock so if you live close by a Perfumania hop in to see if they have one. Enjoy.

This stuff is pretty nice I've been looking for a version of Turathi blue that doesn't have that harsh herbal note in the opening, and this is it. It still isn't as good as Tygar, but then I could never afford Tygar for regular everyday use. The performance definitely leaves much to be desired, but the scent is fantastic, and more than makes up for mediocre performance. As said below if performance is your primary goal go Turathi blue, but if you want a higher quality scent profile this is a good way to go. if you absolutely want perfection of the DNA Tygar is the only answer. Id give this an 8 out of 10

@ MoCheezePlz Really? Lol. Is that what "people" tell you when you wear this fragrance? People just stop you in your tracks and say, "Hey...sorry to bother you, but your cologne makes my mouth water. I actually want to clench my teeth, you know, like when you eat a Starburst? Anyway, just wanted you to know these very specific things about your cologne. Have a good day." Interesting.

While Ive never smelt tygar, I did get turathi blue recently and this definitely smells similar. Although, Terra Nova does lacks that “middle eastern” note that I couldn’t get over on turathi blue. It also projects less but in my opinion thats not always a bad thing. To my nose, this is a better scent but just not my type of scent. I recommend this to anyone in search of that dna.

This isn't a bad scent, it's pretty good but it smells like a less aggressive version of LV's L'immensite; I have both Terra Nova and L'immensite and Terra Nova is identical except the ginger in L'immensite is dominant at least in my bottle which makes me shy away from it a little.

This is a surprisingly good release. Like others have mentioned, there is something very "lemon Starburst" here, with a good amount of woods and a mega dose of ambroxan. Similar to Tygar for sure. A very safe release that won't offend anyone, but I do enjoy it.

@godfatherfragrance Is this all you know how to do? Criticize Ash's work? I see this type of review on every fragrance he's worked on with this house. He put a lot of time and effort into these, so go find something to do with your life.

Haven't smelled the other colognes that are similar to this one. Always get compliments. People say their mouth waters when they smell this one and it makes them want to clench their teeth like they are chewing on a starburst.

I really wanted to like this one. I had really high expectations but for me it just smelled like Pledge. I don’t know if my nose if not developed or what but I did not catch any other note here just lemon leaf and bergamot.

Drys down like Tygar, opens like Terra Hermès. Not sure on performance for me yet. I smell both in a more lighter softer version. So Im curious to see the performance over time.
