Djin

Wow, spicy, definate male feeling at first application. This so makes me think Jersey Shore men due to the slight hairspray note combined with the musk and civet. Not quite as cheesey though but definately macho. This is not a meek and retiring type guy fragrance. As the perfumer says "it's pheromonal effects are not to be underestimated". You better like the dirty feel because this fragrance reminds me of someone pretty cocksure. Drydown brings a bit of softness and smoothness from the rose to temper the macho opening but is still musk and civet heavy. I'd prefer a more elegant fragrance myself, but since I'm a woman, this fragrance isn't necessarily marketed to me though I'm sure some women could rock this scent with the right attitude. This might qualify as a male version of a "rank" fragrance- one that straddles the line of good taste but you wear it anyway when you're feeling horny or super sure of your sex appeal OR wanting to attract some romantic partners. Also, the information I received from the perfumer says this fragrance has ozonic, leather, civet, several musks and pheromone mix notes. I bring it up since those are the notes that give this fragrance it's macho feel and aren't shown in the Fragrantica listing.

This is definitely one of the stranger perfumes that I’ve sampled recently. In the beginning there’s an odd mix of strong marine/ozone notes along with some citrus and acrid, slightly metallic-smelling notes, not just the galbanum that’s listed, but something else that I can’t identify. After the first 15-20 minutes it dries down into a mild watery, flowery scent for a while. It takes an hour or so for the castoreum to come out, but come out it does, along with some civet and other musky things. I’m not familiar with the odor of any of the male “pheromones” that are supposed to be in Djin, so can’t really say whether or not I smell them. What I do know is that there’s no noticeable teak scent, despite the fact that “teakwood” is listed in the notes. This is a very good thing, since I really don’t like teak. As a female, I wonder if wearing a scent made with male “pheromones” is supposed to have some sort of autoerotic effect. If so, I’m not feeling it. To me, Djin is just an offbeat composition that tries to unite intuitively incompatible materials and ends up being sort of a perfume analog of Schoenberg’s 12-tone musical compositions.
