Veneno

This is yet another curious offering from the house of Matos. I'm very surprised that some of the reviewers complain about low performance. Veneno has performed very well on my skin, with a great projection (1,5m) sprayed from a small sample and 9h of duration. The scent itself is paradoxical. Its green colour is representative of what I have experienced. It is very smooth and nicely blended. It starts off very leathery and carnal. This leather thread is interlaced with earthiness, smoke (a very good representation of cade oil) and animalic notes. It speaks to the primitive desires of any human being. Intoxicating to the max. This phase lasts for several hours before the balsamic and extremely musky facets come to play. The costus is the main protagonist in the base. However, it would be too simplistic to refer to the pyramid, as these three elements: leather, smoke and earthiness and musks, take turns and evoke different emotions, sometimes in sequence and sometimes together. The concept of Veneno is depicted here remarkably well. It is not a fragrance for the faint of heart. It is a work for art, an experience for those special occasions when we want to liberate ourselves from societal restrictions and enjoy the forbidden, the primitive and the carnal. Disclosure: The review is based on a sample. Thus, it is to assume that the performance and longevity of the scent itself would be much better if sprayed from the actual bottle.

A unique fragrance that has interesting marketing but to me smells like a green fragrance, although I can't figure out what type. My issue with this fragrance is performance. Becomes a skin scent after an hour and projectivity is somewhat low.

Nothing like you've never smelled before! You spray it with caution but you can't stop sniffing it!! It's so fun and innovative! Congrats Miguel!

The site mainly features significant launches and reviews of prominent houses, fragrances and unique niche brands. Using a platform that you work for to feature your own product and mask it as an equal with others to profit off of the item is a big no no. This is meant to be an open platform for reviews, critiques and product knowledge, not to be used to sell your own products. It’s a bit jaded. Doesn’t matter if the Fragrantica team gives it good or bad reviews, (probably will stay neutral if they have bad reviews), but it’s the integrity of the site being an open platform that is being jeopardized. It only takes one snowflake to cause an avalanche. Couple years down the road, what, we have ads and reviews prioritizing for fragrances developed by the Fragrantica teams? No bueno.

This is a conflict of interest, creating your own fragrances and posting it on the blog you work for. Imagine if Anna Wintour launches her own fashion label and starts putting it in Vogue... Good for you Miguel on your creation, but it’s not right to be able to do both.

This fragrance has the absolute worst marketing campaign i've ever seen. Why the fuck would you wear a perfume that harms your skin? That's nonsense! That's why IFRA exists in the first place and you don't care about your own health? For fragrances with this skin - harmful connotation, i'd better put neat cinnamon bark essential oil on my skin, i'll just pay less and i'll get the exact same (Or even worse) sensation that i'd get with "Veneno". Onto actual perfumes, i think i'd better waste my buck in a vintage bottle of Givenchy Gentleman or a current Lapidus Pour Homme or Furyo, i'll get the exact same funk, the same leather, a higher performance (9Hrs for this is pure bs, it should last 40 hours, Gentleman in vintage formulae does actually last that, according to some reviews) and probably, a better bang for buck and less irritation on my skin. As a bottom line: I was a smoker for several years. If i could take back thy damage, i'd surely do it. I guess it's the same case with this.

This is not the area for this, but @jovejove has a point though. I feel the same when Matos reviews his own business, curations etc., saying how amazing that all is. HOW CAN YOU REVIEW YOUR OWN WORK? I don’t doubt his talent at all, but lately it seems like he is using this a lot for his own purposes, and I wonder why the Fragrantica team is letting it pass.

@jovejove Not sure I agree with you. Now, it would be a different story if we start to see nothing but RAVE reviews on this perfume from one day to the next, all reviews written by the Fragantica team - now that would be a cause for an uproar!
