Naviglio

This is the second fragrance by Milano Fragrance I gave a full wearing and it was, indeed, the perfect scent for a hot day. All fragrances by this company are inspired by Milan, in this case a boat on the canal along the “Vicolio dei Lavandai”. Naviglio is the perfect classic Eau de Cologne that performs like an Eau de Parfum: clean, white, bright! There’s something of a lily of the valley accord (not listed) blended with neroli that gives this a watery, green hue and recreates the feel of an aquatic scent without being overly aquatic. Ever since the 90s and the 00s I just have a difficult time with those aquatic, blue fragrances (probably because Cool Water was everywhere). Of course, this is not the scent of the sea with a slightly salty feel ... although ... hmm, there might be a hint of the sea in there. The official notes in the blurb are Marseille Soap (probably that’s why it feels so clean, like a crisp white shirt whose collar is freshly starched), aquatic notes and watery flowers, together with “an elegant ivy facet”. I’m not so sure about the ivy note and have no notion of what ivy smells like, but yes, there might be a green/poisonous hint in the fragrance that keeps it from being just too clean. As I already said: I am impressed with the performance as this smelled as if it would have been gone within 4 hours, but yet again it made it well over the 12 hour mark and still has a decent sillage. I don’t know how they did that, but if an Eau de Cologne type fragrance has ever deserved the label “indelible”, it’s this one 😉. My skin apparently seems to like the fragrance and the unscented sunscreen I’m using might have also helped with longevity. This one certainly has left an impression on me!

Naviglio is the last sample of my Milano Fragranze sample set, a soapy aquatic that mixes a bit of dirty seawater with a clean cologne concept, involving citruses, lavender, petitgrain, vetiver, and cedar. It’s immediately very interesting and an easy-to-wear marine scent that nevertheless is interesting, particularly in how it balances the clean vs. dirty aspect, generally the great challenge of marine scents, making them realistic have some of the “dirty” aspects of seawater while at the same time being a palatable, refreshing fragrance. Naviglio achieves this very well and becomes one of reliable favorites, like Imaginary Authors Every Storm a Serenade (which leans dirtier, with its prominent calone note), Nautica Oceans (which is cleaner, more of a saltier freshwater vibe), Tom Ford Costa Azzurra (comparably dirty, but saltier/sharper, with driftwood and seaweed), and Dua Flagship (which is sweeter/muskier), though I’m sure I’m leaving out others. Naviglio is a nice option among these, fairly easy to wear relative to some aquatics while still having its own vibe. Naviglio, like the rest of the Milano Fragranze line, is priced at $135 for 100ml, which I maintain is pretty outstanding in the current market, and certainly more accessible than the Masque Milano line, which has similar bottle prices as the 35ml size. Milano Fragranze is sold at boutiques like Perfumology, where I bought my sample set. It’s been really fun working through the sample set of eight, and I look forward to trying to the newer releases as well. 8 out of 10

This is the perfect kind of Italian clean - an upscale Mediterranean bar of soap you can spray. There's neroli, of course (Italians sure do love their neroli), perfect sparkling bergamot, with an aquatic soap note that feels like an Italian breeze in the delicate spring air on your body, right after the most refreshing shower. Don't worry about the lavender - it's in the background only. The vetiver is also non-intrusive, which I can appreciate. The musky cedar base is so gentle yet gives Naviglio just enough to make it unisex. Really, it's so perfect if you are after a soapy and clean perfume! This deserves so much hype for how beautifully executed it is (nah, I'm not a gatekeeper - try it out!). The "Navigli" are a system of canals that run through Milano, Italy. Last time I went to Italy, I ate at a restaurant just beside one canal, Naviglio Pavese - string lights at night, reflection off of the water, good company, Italian ambience. I walked these canals with my grandparents. That was years ago, and my nonno has since passed. I miss him, I miss the experiences. Fragrances like this evoke emotion and longing from me. I could own this whole line because of the way it grips me!

Wow - another blind surprise. Arrived with Basilica which is much much stronger. Smells like a super high quality laundry scent. A high quality long lasting but low volume output very very reminiscent of Gendarme EDP. Not far off Montale Aqua Gold (which is heavier and oilier) or Fougeres Marine. For the price and 100ml this is very attractive if this is your thing. I have all of the above mentioned plus a few others (mmm well distantly Rogue Bon Monsieur and Mazzolari Augusto - arguably the worlds benchmark for a classic soapy barbershop) despite requiring a more generous application the smoothness of the product build leaves me extremely happy. The initial opening is quite musky but dries down after 10 minutes and the petitgrain lavender and watery notes establish as the main players. Maybe I find this also appealing as the soapiness isn’t quite as in your face as some of the others. Awesome!

This is very clean and soapy, slightly masculine leaning cleanness. It performs amazing on my skin in cold and somehow even better in the heat. Works for all kinds of daytime activities from just being lazy on the beach, gym or even office. Longevity is very good for a freshie. Pricepoint is very good I had to get a full bottle. This will be replacing my Neroli Portofino since they fill the similar need in my cabinet and Naviglio performs 10x better. If you are into clean, soapy, neroli certainly get a sample. Usually I wear fragrance for me and compliments are just added bonus. This one is complimented a lot! As always sample first since we all got different skin chemistry and taste.

I simply love this, and shortly after having discovered it, became an instant staple in my fragrance routine. Well yes, we have the cleanest white soap bar accord here, but also what i love is an impeccable use of petitgrain (i adore petitgrain), some greenish neroli and a soft lavender. Perfect for spring-summer, office, closed spaces. Keep in mind that this is a "clean" fragrance, smelling very friendly and natural, so "ladies, chicks uh" people may look elsewhere. Just fantastic for my taste, thank you very much Milano Fragranze, for making me this much happy with this spectacular juice. The full retail price is perfectly justified with what you get

This one almost reminds me of a YSL Kouros summer flanker, but with more soap. It’s a clean, soapy floral musk, but there’s an ever so slightly skin undertone that can seem a bit dirty on occasion. Probably the white flowers playing tricks on me, with the addition of a watery mineral note. I like it, but I can also see how others don’t. Generation X will enjoy Naviglio the most. This one is a good departure from your typical Aquatic dumb reaches, and I think that’s why I enjoy it so much. I would try before buying, especially if you’re the picky type. 8.5/10

Soapy Citrus Deliciousness. This was a love. Such a bright beautiful light crips clean fragrance. Makes you feel like you've just stepped out of the shower and slipped into a stunning white sundress. Add a floppy raffia hat, strappy, strappy sandals. Then step outside on a beautiful summer day and soak in the hot sun and a gentle warm breeze on your skin. Perfection. Plus a surprisingly long-laster and not pricey. Definitely worth a FB.

This is a masterpiece of cleanliness. It is one of the few soap perfumes that are not annoying and has a very mature and luxurious scent. It is ideal for green, light, pale blue clothes. One of the few perfumes with a floral scent that men can embrace. I think it is really different and unique work. I will buy it at the first opportunity for spring and summer.

Beautiful soapy, clean fragrance. I love this one. Not offensive at all, elegant, and refreshing. I like the atomizer on this one as well (pressurized), which differs from my bottle of Diurno which is not pressurized. Very happy to have this one. Yes, it's in the same family as Castille from Pengaligon's, but it's not redundant to have both.

Pretty much smells exactly like the write up suggests. Very soapy citrus and white florals, watery, and a slight mineral touch. Beautiful. Also, surprisingly long lasting on me. Presentation and bottle are super nice. Awesome atomizer and magnetic cap!

Clean and soapy with the great longivety and medium projection. Neroli dominant. Very similar to TF Neroli Portofino just more soapyt han TF. Great on its own but also for layering. And totally unisex. Perfect for sommer casual elegance.

One of my absolute favorites. It's clean, fresh, not too strong, and fairly unique. If you like fresh soapy scents and dislike overly strong scents, I think you'll like this one!

Adp Essenza is a rock star. This is a classical musician. Very nice indeed. 2026 edit. Recently discontinued, glad I picked up another couple of bottles.

A fresh relaxing fragrance, with a dominant neroli note. Perfect for a walk on a seaside street after dinner in summertime holidays

Rewriting my review after living with this fragrance for 6+ months. Performance has increased dramatically, and it seems like the river water vibe has evened out with the soapy experience. It's now 80/20 soap and river water.. And when I say river water, it really does smell like a river. Not a dirty river, but running water and a little outdoorsy smell. Initially I was over spraying, and the "outdoors" musk was too prominent. Artistically, they accomplished what they set out to do, which is re-create the smell/atmosphere of washing your clothes in river water in ancient Italy. It takes a little getting used to; even from someone like me that is into weird/unique/artistic fragrances. Overall it's very wearable, and smells like soap in the air. My skin amps up whatever musk they're using, which is unusual because I've tried and own tons of them. Although Pengaligon's Castile is great, smells cleaner and a little less risky, this is more artistic, a bit more modern, and performs way better than the Penhaligon's. Scent 7.7/10 Performance 7.6/10

The Navigli is the southern part of Milan named after the canals which run through it, and it's a bit of a trendy hipster region these days with bars and local artists, and young people go to the Darsena to hang out in the evenings. But this fragrance isn't about that. Rather, it's an old-style soap but working in a modern way from when the men of the "Confraternita dei Lavandai" did the laundry of well-off families in the water there. It's not a soapy feel as such but really the smell of a particular kind of soap, working in that Italian style of making a person smell as clean as possible. But I think this could nevertheless work as a fragrance on a modern young man. Maybe not for me, though, because I want my fragrance to smell like a fragrance and not like I've just washed with soap.

After wearing this several times the dry down grew on me. It's extremely soapy but it's not what I was expecting. It actually smells a lot like this industrial powdered soap that was used at gas stations and mechanic garages back in the 70's. It also smells like a powdered laundry detergent. It's not something I'd wear often but it's quite interesting. Don’t expect fancy expensive hotel soap. This is blue collar soap. I'd probably buy a full bottle if I saw it under $100.

A casual cologne for a man that wants to smell clean, sharp and soapy. You got to love your soapy colognes if you want to rock this one on. Reminds me of Pure soap- Clean Classic but Greener and woodier. Feels like you stepped out of the shower after using a clean white bar of soap. Performance is quite good 6-8 hour on skin while sillage staying close to skin.

A lovely and light Italian fragrance. Simple, almost two dimensional, on a hot summer morning, straight after a shower, this is all I want. Sometimes I’ll layer a little white floral scent over it, a tuberose, or an iris, and it adds a touch more complexity, but doesn’t change the basic character of this scent. Glad I got it.

Very nice soapy fragrance with Neroli, Lavender and Bergamot. Smells like a expensive bar of soap. Picture yourself at a 5 star hotel in Nice, France for example. Clean and universal. Perfect for work and it lasts long.

This is such a clean and refreshing scent! The soap accord is really prominent, making it feel like you just stepped out of the shower. It's not overly sweet or floral, which I appreciate. Perfect for everyday wear.

Very neroli forward. I don’t get the soap notes that everyone else seems to. I have a sample of this but I don’t think I’d spend the cash for a full decanter. It’s nice, but not all that.

Wet grass and warm soapy skin, clean and fresh. A must-try if you like soapy scents, and one of the best from this house.

The best interpretation of "soapy clean" that I've smelt so far. Not "kind of soapy" or "soapy qualities", but actually a spray on soap. And I say that being entirely positive, because that is exactly what I've been looking for. I have always wanted one or two fragrances in my rotation that are simply clean, but most "clean" fragrances I've come across (unisex, slightly masculine or slightly feminine) tend to lean towards freshly laundered cleanliness with aldehydic qualities or shower gel clean that is masculine and generic. I like and have a couple of fresh laundry options (Lazy Sunday Morning, 724, Aura by Aaron Terence Hughes) and a couple that are clean but more like an actual fragrance (Prada Amber Pour Homme, which I love) but when I sampled this I knew I had to have a full bottle. It smells like soap - neroli, petitgrain, some lavender. You get the bergamot up top, and as it dries down and you get your nose really close, you get some cedar/vetiver qualities giving it base, but in your personal scent bubble, projecting from you, and its sillage trail, what you get from start to finish is soap. Depending on your life experiences, you'll interpret it differently. For example, my sister who has spent time in Italy said it smells like a soap you'd experience in a non-chain hotel in Italy that is more of a classic hotel than a modern one. For me, it smells classy, upscale, but very much like soap. I would wear this on days or in settings where I personally wanted to smell good and clean, but I didn't want to bother anybody close to me by wearing something challenging or intrusive. But just because it's not challenging or intrusive, that doesn't mean that it isn't interesting. This is a very well executed fragrance that takes a possibly boring concept like soap, and turns it into something fun, cheeky and uplifting for the wearer. Deceptively long-lasting (6-8 hours easily, so not moderate but actually long-lasting) and a present scent bubble that keeps giving you wafts even when you forget you're wearing it. Which means that if 8 hours in the wearer catches a waft, people near you probably did and will too.

Failed blind buy! Naviglio is definitely not the fresh floral, soapy, aquatic, citrusy scent that I would have liked to get. I was hoping for a luxurious French lavender bar of soap inspired scent but what I get on me is a bitter petitgrain, cheap soap and loads of earthy vetiver. In my opinion it is a more masculine fragrance and not a particularly good one. Also, the performance is underwhelming, is neither long lasting nor good projecting! The package and the bottle are beautiful and look good quality. Not sure if worth the money for me, and that says a lot cause I bought it on sale.

The most realistic soap fragrance I've ever smelled. It's not powdery or fancy (like the Prada Infusion line, Ambre Pour Homme or L'Homme) nor is it overly citrusy (like Mugler Cologne or Creed Original Vetiver). It smells of lather from a generic bar soap (think Lever 2000) or washing powder. It projects at an arms length for maybe 30-45 minutes, then it's a skin scent for another 4 hours. I wear this to work primarily, when I want to smell clean and not like a "cologne" or fragrance.

Smells like old school FAST ORANGE pumice soap in the can. Something synthetic underlying. It's not for me. It doesn't change much as it mellows. Not nearly as nuanced as other citrus forward scents.

A unique soapy soft citrus opening. Followed by a clean, lightly woody and musky aquatic notes.

This remenber me a soap brand called "Irish Spring", is good but no impresive. Pass

Soapy fragrance lover here. The "soap" note in this smells like cheap cooking corn oil. Hard Pass.... and no, it does Not smell like Neroli Portofino, Mugler Cologne or Eau de New York, all of which I have and love. Some of you are trying to ruin Fragrantica with your off-base references.

I wanted to like this....I tried to like this....but l couldn't.

I'm on the hunt for my perfect soapy perfume. I want to smell lathered-up and fresh out of the shower. I want to smell like a walking Dove bar. Unfortunately, Naviglio is not it for me. It's very masculine, right from the get-go and throughout its lifecycle. Honestly, I would not even call this unisex. And although it has a creamy quality, I wouldn't call it soapy. On first spray, it weirdly reminded me of a more creamy, masculine version of Libre. Looking at the notes, there are some similarities: lavender, petitgrain, white florals, musk, cedar. But Libre has a sparkly quality that Naviglio lacks. And in Naviglio, the vetiver is quite strong, giving it an earthy-smoky quality. Especially on the dry-down, several hours into wear, it mostly smells like vetiver. I don't find this fragrance to be clean or soapy at all once it has dried down, either. Overall, this fragrance is disappointing. Edit: I ended up showering immediately after I came back from work to scrub this off my skin. I feel like the smell somehow became stronger over time, and it got to the point that my entire face and neck were itching like crazy (and I only applied the fragrance lightly to my wrists!). I got multiple comments that I smell like Axe Bodyspray. So, there's that. Hard pass for me on this one, unfortunately.

I honestly do not smell soap in any way in this fragrance, which is why I tried it. To me it smells very artificial, and almost chemical. Disappointing

Sometimes, there's something you didn't know you needed until you found it. And then there's just the opposite situation. I've always been crazily enchanted by neroli and orange blossom soaps: Savon de Marseille, Jabón de Castilla, just give me all that in a scent! Not so much a Dove soap, or a Prada Infusion soap, or Nivea soap, or the concept of cleanliness per se. That neroli soap smell has always given me the comfort of a primordial sun-drenched and simple life that I had for some time as a kid. And here it is in a literal form. A no-brainer. But I have a problem with it. In its pursuit of an olfactive landscape, that Marseille notes are mixed with their whole surrounding: the river, the dark-green vegetation over the moist stones, the process of washing the dirt from the laundry and the resulting gray soapy water. I imagine a cloudy, Charles Dickens picture; the rest is explicitly stated in Milano Fragranze's own description; "The damp stone bank of the canal slowly consuming the washermen to the bone." A storytelling too precise. There are some tweaks, of course. Lavender, citrus and musk contribute for a wearable aquatic cologne that could live without its description. But there is also something persistently harsh and gloomy about this scent which most of the time ruins it for me. I'd rather have Penhaligon's Castile, and then add the olfactive context myself by simply going to places I'd like to be. It is a very interesting fragrance nevertheless, just bear in mind that it's a fragrance about a place where people use fragranced soap, that's it.

Very nice soapy-musk accord that reminds me of CDG's Marseille. Surprised not to see it in the recommended section, but I don't think that has much citrus in it. Here I get a citrusy neroli accord in the opening, but mostly it is a familiar musk base that I wish I could pinpoint- chalky/powdered, slightly floral (maybe a bit of Ambrettolide or something similar?)- basically just like an unscented bar of white soap. Fatty, a little bitter and mineralic, like the dried shavings you might find in a freshly opened Dove bar. The pairing of aquatic notes make this a bit unique though. The effect is like a wet stone, or wet ivy growing up the surface of a rock wall. A mild herbal lavender note lurks in the background for a lightly cooling, aromatic touch. It's fun, clean, and wearable without presenting as simply another citrus-neroli cologne. Would love to get a decant if I can find one. It belongs in a great category of simple, direct impressions of familiar things made slightly elevated and wearable. edit: bought a decant and decided against a bottle. The main player here is neroli. It dries down to a powdered neroli scent supported by cool aquatic tones. Nice but not as remarkable as I initially thought.

Naviglio by Milano Fragranze (0036, 100ml., USD90) I believe "Naviglio' is direct modern interpretation of "Eau Fraiche (Fresh Cyphre)" / "Eau de Cologne (Citrus-Aromatic)" genre. when it eventually dry-down to Shaving Cream Oakmoss. This contains modern-moss (Evernyl) and I believe it key major of presented "Soap accord" with certain aldehyde. Naviglio retains the ability to wear like actually "Eau de Cologne" kind of scent, bitety fresh. It is not "Pretended to be fresh" kind of scent that use Hedione or musk as body. I love great freshie classic (Eau de Guerlain) / (Eau Fraiche) and I think this is modern interpretation of it, apart of replica oakmoss - the rest smells very natural, really enjoyable for long hot day. Can't wait for summer.

Oh my goodness- this is magical. My 15 year old smelt it on me and said it smells like summer! And it does! At first there is an amazing soapy note mixed with warmed hay, (I wish this phase lasted longer) then a slightly indolic neroli citrus accord bursts through. There is a fantastic lime sustained by the vetiver (which truth to be told is a bit too prominent for me). The composition becomes gradually more aromatic and less citrusy and this lasts for a long time, gradually drying to a musk. I was really concerned that this perfume would be too masculine, but it is perfectly unisex and I am glad! Sillage moderate, longevity 8 hours +

I tired this as a part of a series of "Soapy" fragrances alongside Castile, Marseilles, KAWS, Bambini Soap, Ghost in the Shell, and a few others. The real beauty of this perfume is in the dry-down. A realistic, clean-soapy accord alongside florals like neroli, petitgrain and lavender. This makes you feel like you just stepped out of the shower, and lasts for 4-6 hours. However, the opening is very hard to get through - unclean, dense, green. Ultimately, this is just okay.

I ordered their discovery set specifically to smell this one. It smells like a wet safeguard or lifebouy bar soap. It's smells so clean, I applied lotion to my skin before spraying this and it stayed in my skin for at least 4 hours. It's a intimate skin scent, I might buy it but I will still test out others. But I really really liked this one, just don't expect a trail when you walk, it's a very tame scent.

Neroli, soapy one. This, this is my jam. acquatic beautiful blend. Think of a soap bar made of neroli & lemon. It has a lemon-sting to it but it blends in with the neroli so it isn't harsh in any way. I feel extremely fresh wearing this. Like I had the most luxuryious bath, the scent itself is more of a skinscent and not something crazy.

If you wanna smell fresh out of the shower this is the scent for you. Pair it with a white T-shirt in the summer and you are cooking with bacon grease!

-Opens green, soapy and slightly peppery. -Dries down to pure oakmoss. -Reminiscent of something masculine from the house of Comme des Garcons. (-)

Clean fresh soapy scents that impressed my for its incredible longevity. Naviglio is ideal for the high summer heat: so refreshing!

I did not like it. Riekt of my mothers dirty laundry water at the end of the day. She washed by hand. Thin and sour.
