L'Eau Magnetic

I love aquatic freshies and this is very enjoyable and will be a staple in the super hot summer months. It's delightfully peppery in the opening without any harshness, and then citrusy without being overtly lemony or a cliche citrus..maybe that's the citron? There's a whip of sea saltiness--or is it calone?-- throughout, and then a soft sweetness and woody-ness rises up on the skin which makes me happy. Extremely pleasant and just what i was looking for. I don't mind that it's on the lighter side because that's what i need in hot weather. I don't find it artificial as I've smelled other cheapie ocean scents..nope not this. It's aromatic and airy. I'm not getting the tobacco tho, unfortunately, that would have been nice balance.

To my nose, a very literal water smell - more aquatic than maritime and not as citrus as you might expect. Very pleasant and like many Miller Harris perfumes, the longevity is better than you might initially detect. There are whispers of it still after about 8-10 hours. And like many others, can be found at TK Maxx, making me wonder if it might be discontinued in the not so distant future. Worth picking up for a discount if you can find it, and if elegant aquatic scents are your bag, worth picking up full stop.

Genuinely unisex, without being too masculine or too feminine, a slightly aromatic aquatic. Very fresh, and more like a cologne than an eau de parfum or toilette. A very balanced aquatic - aromatic - sweet musk accord, with citrus. I like it but its very fleeting on me and really more like a cologne splash. Something you would want to quickly spray on on a hot summers day wanting to feel and smell refreshed. Makes me think of sailing boats and sunshine and stripy tops.

It's herbal and woody kind of fragrance to me. Quite masculine for me to wear it, but an interesting scent. Green, fresh and soapy, reminds me of nature. It would be better for me, if it was a little bit sweeter. The earthy undertone Miller Harris' scents have bothers me a little bit. I wouldn't wear it myself, but I think it's cool.

I liked it but ultimately regifted mine. It's a very linear and simple fragrance without any interesting notes to me. It's fresh, direct, overly simplified, nothing too unusual. I agree with others, it's slightly aquatic.

This mostly smells like a nondescript aquatic musk on me. I can't say any of the listed notes come through except that there's a citrusy freshness at first. Otherwise, I find it pretty masculine and not to my liking. I can see it being nice on different body chemistry, but on me it's just unremarkable.

update to my earlier review. Tried this again today after the sample sat in a drawer for a few months. I'm not sure why I had such a visceral reaction to it previously. Actually I don't mind it now, I think it hovers between the like and OK buttons. I wouldn't describe it as aromatic though, and the tobacco is almost imperceptible to my nose, maybe used in a very small amount to warm up an otherwise very dry fragrance. The overwhelming impression is of an aqua fragrance. There seems a dominant synthetic aqua note, maybe from calone or helional. It's light though, like a diluted version of Kenzo homme or cool water. I can also see a passing resemblance to CK one. Similar citrus/ light Virginian cedar wood/ aqua vibe, though L'eau Magnetic emphasises more of the the aqua. A more subtle version of a 90's men's fragrance. I did like those fragrances back then, but now they are just very dated. The truly aromatic fragrances of the years before the 90's are more appealing now (though those types of fragrances are infrequently available due to ever more restriction by IFRA). Not worth the money - cheaper to buy CK one (though I don't know how similar today's version is to the original) and to underdose. I would say in LM's favour that CK one to my nose had a certain pungency that at times bordered on the repugnant. Also with L'eau magnetic, I'm not sure why they spelled half the name in French (L'eau) and half the name in English (Magnetic and not Magnetique). Marketing decision I suppose, not sure what it says about the target purchaser.

what were they thinking of when they produced this? It smells so artificial. Could rival secretions magnifique for the crown of worst cologne. As soon as I put it on, I started sneezing. It doesn't smell like CK one, that's not nice, but it's tolerable.

had I not known it was Miller Harris, would have guessed it was Calvin Klein which for me stands for slightly aquatic, slightly synthetic and relatively crowd-pleasing. oh, just spotted others also thought it's similar to CK One. I'm not alone! :)

Based on the notes I really should have liked this one, but on me it turned into a somewhat metallic scent. Washed it off eventually after 3hrs.

Very artificial. Aquatic and woody notes are fighting for attention in the first few moments but give up very quickly. Disappointing.

I've owned this fragrance for a long while. I feel it is a brave and quite masculine attempt at making an aromatic that's different. On that, L'Eau Magnetic is a success! There isn't anything out there that is just like this. Navegar by L'Artisan, with anise & ginger instead of tobacco is the closest of those I've experienced in the "reminds me of" section, but it's not really similar enough to say a lover of that discontinued gem will also love this. Being different comes at a price. The fresh tobacco note affects the scent quickly and turns off every woman I've asked to try it. Oh, they love it on ME, just not on themselves. Unisex? No. The touch of unsweetened vanilla & tonka works to provide some smoothness to that tobacco, but it isn't of the gourmand-type which could turn a woman with typical tastes into a fan. The citruses are not sweet here, or juicy, or drowned in white musk, all of which are typical of successful aromatics marketed toward women in modern times. L'Eau Magnetic is done in a style typically appreciated by men. The petitgrain does remind (although very briefly) of something unisex from decades ago, though it's not fair to say this is close to CKone for that 5-10 minute flashback. That doesn't make it unisex. L'Eau Magnetic isn't "pretty". It probably doesn't sell well. Men who would like this are not very likely to stumble upon or seek out this fragrance when there are so many mens aromatics that are classics, available everywhere, testable without blind-buying, and (most importantly) are immediately easy to wear without having to "think" about the perfume. So many others are pleasing from the first spray onward. There's nothing wrong with that, but I already have a ton of those. L'Eau Magnetic is a fragrance-guy's aromatic. I like that. Guys like me who are always looking for something different (and having difficulty finding them) are probably the ones who will enjoy it. Thus it will (understandably) garner poor ratings and questionable reviews from most everyone else. If you appreciate what I've described then test it, hopefully a few times. You may enjoy it as I do, but don't blind buy this unless you are adventurous. It's safer to go buy one everybody else owns and likes that's sold at maybe a dozen stores at your local mall. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's not me. Finding fragrances that are new to me and enjoyable is what keeps me interested in perfume. L'Eau Magnetic is a solid "Like". [Edited 4/29/21: I just wore this for the 2nd time this Spring. That tobacco is so refreshingly different in this fragrance style and every year I own it I enjoy it more. This is now a "Love" for me.

I have and love a few MH testers, and I found this one dry, slightly bitter, and beautifully woody. I love the vanilla-tobacco combo. However, the scent faded too quickly. I re-applied after two hours, but accidentally used MH's Lumiere Doree instead! LD added an almost gourmand sweet-sour candy smell, with the orange, petitgrain and amber coming through. The jasmine floral note added some softness, while the cedar and tobacco in Magnetic kept the combo from becoming genuinely sweet. After 20 minutes, a soapiness emerged, and another 15 minutes after that, a trace of pencil shavings. MH's unisex scents I find on the whole to be on the masculine side (and I love masculine-leaning scents on myself). But layering the two created something that to me smells genuinely unisex. These two MH fragrances complement each other beautifully, but are different enough that I am continually surprised - it's like an olfactory voyage! Although the two together are delightful, I'll have to try them again individually to really understand them.

As someone who likes woody, spicy, wintery scents I've always found it hard to find something suitable for summer. I'm not someone who would go for something aquatic or citrus. This has become my go-to for the warmer weather. The citrus instantly refreshes the nose and subsequently the skin making it feel great in warmer weather, but luckily it fleets away fast. It settles nicely in a friendly light vanilla/woody scent. The tobacco isn't very noticeable to me. Because the citrus fleets away fast I feel like the longevity isn't very good, but it's worth a try for anyone who struggles with finding a summer scent if your love is with winter scents.

Tested this along with other MH range and instantly fall in love! Firstly I got a citrus that is really fresh and a bit masculine smell like an aftershave cologne. Then a woody note enters followed by a combination of vanilla-tobacco gave this a strong but not offensive scent. I see this can be easily likable by men and women. Overall MH range is very natural and fresh. Definitely my Want list.
