Poirier d'un Soir

When i first tried this it was summer. I'd blind bought a 100ml bottle (£25 from TK Max!) and while I really liked it, i found it too heavy in the heat & wasn't convinced that I'd wear it often. I thought about passing it to my hubby but instead decided to come back to when the weather was cooler. I'm so glad i did! This is a totally unique gem of a scent, that shines in cooler temperatures. The pear note here is photorealistic and is dominant throughout. All of the notes announce themselves individually, each having their own moment to shine. On my skin it settles predominantly to the beautiful pear note, accompanied by spiced rum, caramelised sugar, smokey birch and bergamot. I have not found anything else so unique, it's sublime ❤ The description from the Miller Harris website describes the journey this scent takes me on perfectly. "Poirier d'Un Soir is the scent of a golden sun setting upon a pear tree, the flowers closing and autumnal warmth. Bewitching and elegant, Poirier d'Un Soir is a perfume of intrigue and memory. A distant bonfire crackles whilst you take in the last of the evening light, the scent of a mouthwatering pear tree beating down. Tagetes creates the scent of hay, whilst dusky Turkish rose and peony are accented by tangy blackcurrant and a swirl of caramel. The sensual warmth of ambrette rounds out this hedonistic delight." If you get a chance to test it, do..but don't judge it too hastily. Wait for the dry down!

I just couldn't wait until autumn to share my delight in Poirier d'un Soir. I am wearing it on a summer morning and am ever eager for the season to change, as this Williams (or Bartlett) pear peel and juice hits my skin upon application. There is Williams Ester, produced by Firmenich, that smells just like the fresh fruits, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mathieu Nardin (Houbigant Iris des Champs, Perris Monte Carlo Santal du Pacifique) employed it here. It's a stunning opening, realistic and just persistent enough to seamlessly transition into the heart that's reminiscent of delicious Belle de Brillet (a blend of Brillet cognac and the essence of Williams Pears). If one were to peruse the notes pyramid, do not be frightened by the spun sugar note. If anyone knows my tastes, I shun high amounts of maltol and ethyl maltol at all costs, but here, if either are used, it is simply to exalt this heart accord, and I don't get spun sugar at all. I do get peony in the heart, a fecund bloom exuding an almost overripe aroma, contrasting with the sweet liqueur. Over time, the pear overtones persist, while it becomes ever more woody, smoky birch and incense-like on my skin, shades of nutty-berry ambrette shine through too, shiny-herbal-musky-plush-soft, a spectacular dry down. This is the sole pear-oriented scent that has won my heart over.

Poire flambé au rhum et ses epices. Do you like banana flambéed with good amber rum like I do? I love fruit flambéed in a desert with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. And here it reminds me of a very ripe pear that has been roasted in a knob of soft butter. Thereafter and flamed in good Amber rum and sprinkled with raw brown sugar. We have the impression that the rum has macerated in a wooden barrel with spices (vanilla pod, clove, cinnamon, star anise...), for years, and that it has become thicker and more concentrated. in smells. Here we have the right dosage in everything: the spices are present but it is all in subtlety, the sweetness does not take the bottom, the alcohol warms up a little but without excess and especially the woody notes it is not dry but I the impression that it smells like wood or macerated rum. It is a perfect gastronomic desert but in the sense of perfumery! A perfect balance. Don't think it smells like food, no! Because this woody facet is presented, it offers the possibility of being unisex for me, especially towards drying. The hold of the perfume is very good and it is not heavy but present all day. For months the sugar side disappears more and more in the drying. Really very nice interpretation of rum arranged with spices. It is a syrupy perfume.

Oh dear. Could this be it? I went to a Miller Harris store today for the first time and this beauty was one of the perfumes I tried. I think I might have found "the one". The closest fragrance that ever came close to becoming my signature is Byredo's Mojave Ghost (which I can't wear due to my partner hating it), and I must say that to my nose, Poirier d'un soir is extremely close (my partner somehow likes PDS and can't smell the resemblance, which baffles me, but hey I'm glad he can't). It is fruitier and fresher than MG, and more uplifting, which is definitely a plus, but the overall feel is very similar. Poirier d'un soir is very safe imo, but really stands out somehow, while being tasteful and easy to wear. It is also beautifully blended. Went home to give myself the time of reflection, and ended up ordering a 100ml bottle, which says a lot. Amazing. edit: After a few weeks of wearing this, I now feel confident I can call it my signature fragrance, for Autumn/Winter anyway, as it may be a bit too intense for the warmer months.

Poirier d’un Soir is a complex, boozy pear scent that is a welcome, unique addition to my collection. The pear and rum mix with the woods and spices in a way that is so beautifully balanced. The sweet notes are integrated and grounded with the deeper, richer parts of the composition. As it wears, the pear and sweetness subdue and the bassier notes emerge to make the drydown perfectly unisex. Miller Harris’ fragrances are always so well constructed; their compositions always impress me, even if a particular scent isn’t one I want or would wear. I can appreciate the obvious craftsmanship. Poirier d’un Soir is a “love” for me, falling in second place behind Miller Harris’ La Fumee series. I also appreciate that they sell travel-size bottles; as a collector, I don’t need big bottles. The smaller bottles are also a good way to try out the brand without spending a lot of money– which I’d recommend doing if you haven’t already.

Poirer d’un Soir has a sweet, overripe, juicy pear that’s combined with a rich flavour of rum, spun sugar, syrupy blackcurrants, cashmeran, ambrette, peonies and pink rose. It’s a very feminine fruity floral with a boozy touch on a very subtle, smooth base of cashmeran and ambrette. A cuddly type of scent for cozy days inside. As in Myrica Muse case, another fruity scent that I have sampled from Miller Harris recently, I love the way the juice smells but I am not happy with the modest performance. Almost all 8 samples I have ordered had an issue with longevity and/or sillage but smelled very nice, natural, and mass appealing. The prices varies a bit depending on the collection, but they are fairly expensive overall. I am not happy with this and will not invest my money in most of them. Miller Harris should seriously consider increasing the oil concentration in most of their newer releases!

This is a really interesting perfume and I'm loving the scent journey I'm taking with it. It has one of the most natural and realistic pear notes I've ever smelled, but it’s not a gourmand. I would describe the overall composition as a musky-woody pear aromatic, that turns into an incense-spicy birch tree. I typically don't like stewed fruit or sweet fruit fragrances, and this is not. Instead, It's a remarkable in that the fruit leans masculine, and it's why I like it so much. I think this works well in all seasons, but a pass for the hottest summer days as I would imagine it's a little too much in the heat (but I'll test it out anyway.) Good longevity with what is now my favorite Miller Harris fragrance, and I'm already regretting purchasing the smaller bottle. Totally unique for me. 9/10

Wow, this scent changes drastically like my mood, lol. 'Spiced pear rum' with a touch of green and woody notes after a splash of tantalising, refreshing black currant in the opening. There is a zesty, boozy quality about it from opening to mid-phase. Then it becomes sued-ey, musky, powdery in the drydown. Highly unique and authentically expressive in an effortless way with a lot of twists. I get a completely different mood & tone from Mojave Ghost, so I do not find them that similar. Low sillage and projection after awhile, average longevity.

The fruity opening dissipates rather quickly and the scent takes a 360 turn and morphs into something totally mesmerizing and different from how it started. Poirier d'un Soir is an oddity to Miller Harris collection for the resin/woody/incense bring out a dark and mysterious aura unusual to Lynn Harris' known light/fresh/citrus touch, making it seem like an offering from, say, Armani's prive line. I quite like it.

This kinda smells like drinking a really aromatic pear tea, out of a wooden bowl. I like it a lot! It calms me down and I feel really relaxed while wearing it. It is perfectly unisex. When I want to amp up the femininity in it, I layer it with a fresh rosy perfume :)

It smells great , its just too feminine for me. I dont pick up woods to my nose. Just Pear and Musk?

This reminds me of the desert. Prickly pear cactus, sagebrush, hay, tumbleweed.

First blast, out of the bottle, is bug spray. Unpleasant but dissipates once it hits skin. The woods are immediately apparent, dark and dusky with a little bit of a milky undertone. Not alcoholic, sweet or fruity to me, just thick, warm and comfortable. Stays very much the same, with the gentle woods, but as with all Miller Harris as I’ve found, the projection is very poor so I couldn’t smell it to detect any changes. Longevity was okay but it becomes so so faint that it doesn’t really matter. I must say this scent does confuse me a little, because I feel like I’m smelling something completely different to everyone else, and completely different to the notes. I got an official Miller Harris sample so it’s definitely the right fragrance, so I think it must just be my skin. Either way I did enjoy it but I probably wouldn’t purchase a full bottle because of the performance.

A very interesting juicy fruit/booze/musk scent. I like it but its not a love. It is quite a refreshing, cool musky scent. The pear doesn't really dictate at first. I'm pretty sure my skin has amped up the ambrette. It smells pretty natural. Definitely a unisex scent. I only briefly detect any citrus note at the start which is a shame. After half an hour or so the blackcurrant becomes stronger. I'm not keen on this stage. If there is sugar present then it's very low key on me. It was probably added to tone down the tart blackcurrant leaf. Gradually the ambrette, cashmere wood and blackcurrant seem to dominate. I get average longevity and sillage. A very nice scent for casual wear during warm days. This is a cool room and I suspect this scent is better with warmth.

Wow, this is gorgeous. For me very similar pear note to the one in Juliette has a gun's pear Inc - juicy and fresh with just the right amount of sweetness. The opening stays strong on me for a few hours, and I get more of the muskiness come through, super similar to Pear Inc, but this has probably a better sillage and longevity, although I might try and do a side by side just to properly compare (compear haha!). The thing that surprises me most though is I don't really detect any other notes at all in this, it's very linear indeed, no booziness or gourmand at all. I will likely keep an eye out for a full bottle for a good deal as this exactly what I want from my pear fragrances!

A very sweet, syrupy pear fragrance. Reasonable longevity and projects well for the first few hours - it is lighter than I expected and the pear note is definitely the "hero" note - everything else around it feels geared to round it out rather than playing separate parts in their own right. Certainly not unpleasant but I agree with others that it perhaps lacks a little fullness and body - based on the description and notes, I was hoping for a darker, richer and boozier undertone which never really materialised. That said, if you take it for what it is, it remains a very pleasant, sweet pear scent, rounded out nicely.

I like this one, and I’m usually a strictly gourmand lover, so I was shocked! I have a sample from MH, and I may sound absolutely crazy, but on my skin it smells a lot like Santal 33...except better! Warmer, with more depth. The pear shines through the santal-y ness to make this such a charming, clean and fresh scent. (When I say fresh, I mean nature fresh, not in an aquatic sense at all.) it’s absolutely lovely, and not at all what I was expecting from the description. I feel like this perfume must really change a lot based on skin chemistry, just from reading the reviews, so try before you buy!

Sweet, boozy, juicy pear and blackcurrant. I smell the blackcurrant more than the pear, maybe because blackcurrant is just such a strong, sharp note. Smells like stewed, lightly spiced pear dessert with a splash of rum - but not too gourmand, because of the soft ambrette and fresh, green tinged blackcurrant. I like it, but pear and blackcurrant are not notes that I am crazy about for myself. They just don't feel very "me", even though the smell is one I like. I prefer this type of smell for the home, I think, or on one of my friends.

I don't usually like fruity fragrances, but I kind of like this one. It's like a less punchy, more grown up version of my beloved Calyx (Prescriptives/ Clinique). It has a lot of fruits at the very top, and the dry down unfolds spicy things, ?cinnamon...it's every so slightly boozy. It reminds me of a summer night, getting drunk outside under a pear and a fig tree. Yum and fun.

Pears soaked in booze that have had a blowtorch taken to them to caramelise their sugary outsides. I’m not a gourmand person, but I really dig this. The dry down pulls a bit masc on me and I don’t think I’d want a full bottle, but this is way more interesting and fun than your standard sweet scent and I’d definitely recommend it to people who like the boozy/woody/sweet vibe!

Intoxicating pear and rum woody fragrance, It's like a pear and brandy flambe! The longevity is great, upwards of 10 hours with great projection, autumn winter fragrance. I tried wearing it in spring and it works but definitely too heavy for summer.

Smells like Aperol Spritz to me. Not a love, but definitely a like.

This scent manages to be unique without being weird or conflicting. No one is joking about or exaggerating the pear note here, it is truly major and realistic - and it last, but the booziness enters quickly. I don't interpret it as very sweet or ripe, but IMO the whole fragrance is on the brink of too intense. Great composition and scent, but I can't wait to try it in the autumn. I bet it'll be even lovelier in cooler weather (super hot and midst of summer here now and probably not the best of conditions for this to truly shine) Having used this quite a bit now I am not sure if I like it that much. The pear is extremely intense and something here rubs my nose the wrong way. I love the birch and booziness, but the whole composition is too sharp for me to really enjoy it. I like it, but I end up dissapointed everytime I wear it. Quite a surprise to me, but it doesn't project much. Oh well, just not my cup of tea!

Opens with a fresh burst of pear that quickly turns boozy. Reminds me of a smoky rum cocktail with pear liqueur! This is a full, well blended scent but leans more amber and sandalwood in the dry down than I prefer. I enjoy a crisper, more dewy pear, but this would work and last well on someone who prefers darker fruit notes or the Kilian Liquors collection.

Generic bergamot scent with a small amount of spice notes.

Deceived by a pear note. I love pear but here I can smell a sweet one (I can smell it too in my favourite Yankee Candle "Orchard Pear") but this smell is ruined by some kind of wood or maybe rum? I don't know, maybe I have still not fully recovered after loosing my sense of smell 3 years ago. A big no from me. I gave it 2nd chance, sprayed it on my wrist only and cannot imagine to use it normally. Miller Harris is not for me I guess. Too niche for my nose;)

On the blotter I mostly smelled too-sweet pear, with some dry spice, like white or szechuan pepper, in the background. But based on all the positive reviews, I decided to try it on my skin. As for another reviewer, it went very cold & aldehydic, smelling like Poire William or a sharp pear brandy, boozy, but not in a comforting way. Its early autumn where I am: I didn't like it ether in the cool of the morning or when the day warmed up.

Sampled it today as read some reviews mentioned that it had similar vibe to Mohave Ghost. It opened with fruity pear which was nice. Then, turned into smoky/powdery/floral/woody scent that struck an experience when I got into a restroom inside typical restaurants in Europe. From a potpourri there, maybe. Leaning more feminine like 70/30. A pass for me.

Only froral and woody smells though they describe it is gourmand which the top note include pear and rum and it. The woody one of the last note have stabbing sensation for me :( トップがペアーとラムとのことでグルマンかと思わせておいて、最初から最後までフローラルとウッディの香りしかしないんだな〜。ラストのウッディが突き刺してくるタイプのやつで、ウッディ好きではない私にはキツい。

One of the most unusual scents I have ever come across. The opening notes are just delicious pears, recreated to smell so natural they make your mouth water. So far so good. But this perfume is a chameleon and it's evolving majorly, I've never seen a scent so faceted. The fresh pears become boozy, like a desert of caramelized pears drenched in a spiced rum. At this point I would have liked a dollop of vanilla, but instead you get more caramel and some woody notes start to emerge. Fast forward some time, and the scent becomes unisex. The woods are far from cedar and the fresh kinds. The woods here are more like a bon fire burning aromatic evergreens, giving it an almost sweet insense feel. Continue with this sweet smoky scent and the scent acquires a soft suede, not really leather flavor, but something kind of animalic. There is also a musky scent here which is a dirty kind of musk,,probably contributing to the animalic feel. At this point the pears are gone from the skin but on clothes still resist as a faint aroma amid the boozy burn caramel with woods and a sweet insense... The silage and lasting power are impressive. Almost choking if you spray too much. I have a tester bottle so I cannot comment on the box and presentation, but my tester bottle looks exactly like all the other square Miller Harris bottles. This is definitely a winter or fall perfume, warm, enveloping , sensual.... don't make the mistake I made and purchase thinking it would be a nice summer night or spring scent... it is way too dramatic and strong to work in warm weather.

This is awesome. I tried on several fragrances in the Miller Harris shop. All of them were good, but when I got back home after a few hours, this one (and La Feuille, a masterpiece IMHO) stood out a mile. On my (light, male) skin it's rather linear - delicious, intriguing pear from start to finish. I know this might not sound like a recommendation, but it is. The people at Miller Harris explained that pear is a tricky fragrance to recreate in a bottle. The pear and pear tree will in themselves not yield any usable natural fragrances, so Poirer d'un Soir has been created by combining a range of other fragrances into a cocktail that reproduces the smell of pears. So there's tons going on in this fragrance - it's highly complex and very interesting. I love the initial burst of fruity freshness, and never thought it would last, but it did. Great longevity. And, unlike almost all other fresh and clean fragrances, it doesn't degrade into pee or washing up liquid on my skin - the drydown is as spectacular as the opening. A real gem.

Like over-ripe pear in the opening, as if the pear is fermenting. A rum note and birchy leather with a slightly metallic (Ambrette?) rose give an odd but to me really promising beginning. The way the spun sugar and florals combine reminds me of lychee, or a tin of fruit salad! But it's straight up linear after an hour of wearing, I feel as though I want it to do something else, shift one way or another. In this it's putting me in mind of the Swiss Arabian attars Ansam and Layali, all three scents being linear fruity/sweet with florals. But I think the Cedar in Poirier drags it away from sickly sweetness and gives a slightly sour edge. After two hours it's toning down but not really changing, maybe becoming a tad more rosy than pear. So I'm okay with the general quirky (Cashmeran?) fruity/floral vibe but definitely not blown away by it. Btw, IMHO of the three perfumes I mentioned here, Ansam is the nicest - and it's not listed in the directory.

On me, it is almost identical to Byredo Mojave Ghost (tested side by side!), with Mojave Ghost being a touch softer, and moving through its development faster. The fruitiness is initially a little sharp on me personally, but it dries down to a woody base that reminds me of Molecule 04, but less aggressive - so perhaps it’s lingering Javanol tying all these smell-a-likes together? I tend to prefer cozy and musky over clean, so this is my idea of a clean, shampoo-y scent. Do test. I know sandalwood isn’t listed, but I strongly prefer this to MH Peau Santal. Edit: the lingering woodiness this leaves on clothes is divine and long-lasting. BRB, spraying my closet indiscriminately.

Beautiful juicy pear and sparkly lemon opening, very juicy! After the juicy opening it becomes smokey, woody and the pear note changes in a overripe pineapple and synthetic pear extract. The fragrance itself is not thick or dense but light as in texture. However due to the intense overripeness of fruits in the dry down it can become overwhelming, so don’t overspray when smelling the juicy opening because it doesn’t stay that bright and light! I do like this fragrances especially the opening, but don’t reach for it as I prefer other scents over this. It does last for hours. I sprayed it in de evening and when I woke up the next morning I immediately could smell the fragrance.

This is a veeeeery juicy pear 🍐 like damn. Expertly blended. Came across this beauty because I smelled Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman in a Neiman Marcus and really loved the pear note .....but not enuff to drop $245 on a 50ml bottle. Searched around and found a little diamond hiding in the rough. Tbh I didn't think I would like this so much. It's brighter than what I thought, but not bright enough to be a freshie. There's a thickness to it that brings balance and makes this a versatile scent. Can be worn anywhere/anytime. Unisex but leans masculine. Safe blind buy. The kinda shit you buy another bottle of immediately after it runs out.

The overall impression, after a delightful pear topnote hilighted with juicy citrus, is a complex oaky cologne. The citrusy pear stays as a ghost and the heart smelled up close has dimensions of earth, moss, leaves and the hint of fruit whispering in a breeze. I guess the impression of a pear tree at night, emphasis on the tree. A warm woody vanilla finishes the scent, evoking candied citrus peels. It takes a few wearings but if you are looking for this kind of atmospheric complex simplicity it delivers both as a scent you put on and forget and as one to contemplate. Really nice. Best sprayed from at least six inches away.

Agree with the reviewer(s) that noticed some similarity to Byredo Mojave Ghost. Smells like a much harsher (in a chemical or unnatural aroma chemical way), less refined, and less special version of Byredo Mojave Ghost, imo. They are not clones but I would say they are in the same scent genre in which there are only a couple options. The harshness and persistence of what I assume is a synthetic woody note(?) makes the Miller Harris unwearable for me personally. To be fair, I seem somewhat sensitive to certain aroma chemicals and I have never been a fan of Iso E Super or other similar harsh woody notes.

Another great one from house Miller Harris. What I really like is that it just doesn't change. You have many fragrances that you spray and like, but after 10 minutes it evaporates or you are just left with a completely different scent. This is not one of those. You spray it and that's it. It has amazing staying power. Such an amazing creation, very high quality. Expect strong, unusual, slightly on the masculine side, hard to define. I'm finishing the bottle and saving its last drops. Another one I have been complimented on! Give it a try..

I'm on a pear and apple kick lately, but am only liking darker, spiced compositions--anything lighter comes off as a department store-esque fruit explosion on me. I love this, it's a gorgeous, warm boozy pear. It's so simple that I can't believe I haven't come across anything similar yet, but Poirier d'un Soir is really unique. It's a perfect fall/winter fruit, not synthetic smelling, and a compliment-getter.

An interesting multi-faceted scent, rather too complex in its sweet, smokey and woody variety for summer,, but with the addition of a dash of vanilla, quite appropriate as a cool season, daytime scent. Quite by chance I had a mini of 4160 Tuesdays "Sexiest Scent.." in one hand and Poirier in the other and they came together very nicely indeed, sweet but with a slightly bitter, sexy twist.

This starts of as a spicy fruity pear. The fruit is not fully developed as it lacks the sweetness of complete ripeness and underneath there is a tangy whisper of tart pineapple. As the fruit mellows down you experience a complexity of fresh greenery and young sap filled wood . Beyond the wood is a pungent resinous note with a dash of citrus. A very interesting & unique fragrance.

Quite a gaunt perfume. I love pear notes, but this one is disappointingly thin - sweet and juicy alright yet lacking character and depth. I'd still wear and enjoy it for the top- mid-notes, but the drydown feels crude, with a sharp laundry musk that makes me headachey. Miller Harris newer perfumes are interestingly conceived, but the materials don't feel top notch.

i blind bought this instead of scherzo just to be different but it smells like.. like if you just name this perfume "exactly what a spicy pear would smell like", it would be spot on. top notes, cayenne pepper. middle notes, pear. base notes, the core of the pear.

WAIT FOR THE DRYDOWN....This perfume changes so many times, it starts off quite sharp but mellows very quickly. The dry down is beautiful, reminds me very much of Shay and Blue, Black Tulip...I’m loving it

I'm a woman and this perfume wont work for me all year long. It has smoke, pear and strong spice. Not the usual fruity fragrance. Try it first. I wear it on rainy days.

I'm a guy. This is nice. Sparkling . flowers and fruits. Citrus too An all seasons choice for me
