Singosari

Wonderful spicy and slightly soapy opening, rich and heady incense and ginger soon reveals a heart of ground spice propped up by seductive patchouli. The woody vetiver in the drydown grounds it beautifully making this a very unisex and wearable frag indeed! Sillage and longevity are good on my skin. The warm spice in Singosari makes it ideal for the winter months, especially in the build up to Christmas. I picture a crisp December afternoon; a well dressed man, or woman, in a coat, scarf and hat, strolling down a busy highstreet decked with twinkling lights and bows of frosted fir and holly; laden with bags of gifts for family and friends - this fragrance gently wafting through the cold air as they pass. This juice is on the expensive side of reasonably priced but I would certainly consider buying a bottle today if money were no object, especially as said bottle is very attractive indeed.

OK, lesson 1, so here is how to make money in the world of perfume. Make a scent, and call it niche and exclusive. That is pretty much it. Niche sells. Everyone likes niche. Someone will buy it eventually. Molton Brown is a company specialising is expensive body products that has also released a few average scents. Pleasant enough, but average. And now- who would have thought, a so-called niche line inspired by a tour around the world. Except that the quality of the product is still average. It has not been done before 10 times or 100 times, but a million times. It is woody. That is all I can say about it. The description on my blotter asks me to "follow the ancient spice trail to the island of Indonesia". Well, all I am following is a faint patchouli and nutmeg notes with some watered down incense. There is nothing "exotic, steamy, haunting" about it, more like boring, OK and so-so.

[10/28/2015] I am so intrigued by this line and brand!! Singosari: Great fragrance; at first sniff you get pepper, (although not listed in note category) ginger, and also some patchouli. Overall, great fragrance with good projection and sillage. Men, I think you will definitely like this one. Reminiscent of Iunu, yet different and unique! Has a nice Oud affect. Although there is no Osmanthus (floral) note in this, I detect something of sorts that is intriguing. Can't name what this is similar too since it is so different and unlike anything else. Enjoy! Revisted: After wearing this for a day, I found that there is a sweetness to this. Less sweetness than what is found in Iunu, more sweetly greens perhaps in addition to the other notes. Incredible---Amazing stuff!!!

Had a chance to sample the scents from MB's new Navigations Through Scent line at one of their Master Classes and was not overly impresed. The stories attached to each one I find more interesting. Thee best (IMO) is Singosari. Now I always rate a frag by thhe compliments received and this one got its fair share (somewhat to my surprise). I have to figuree it works with my skin type. Not a whole lot going on here. One could say it is sort of dusty patchouli lite. Can not comment on its worth since I do not know the price being asked, but the bottle is the best thing about it. Sillage is good but longevity doesn't get past a few hours.

The opening to "Singosari" is a fire-cracker of glittering spices that reminds me of other Orientals like Opium, Jaipur Homme and Chanel Pour Monsieur. 15 minutes later, however, the spices fizzle out and what's left is a damp, earthy smelling nutmeg and vetiver, with residual smokiness that barely projects and feels rather dull. For an EDP it's extremely weak.
