Verbena

A fresh and green fragrance that is very unisex. It reminds me a lot of ”Wood sage and sea salt” by Jo Malone.

I was extremely pleased with ‘Cyclamino’ by Monotheme hence I bought ‘Verbena’ blindly as I was in search of a green fragrance for summer. Objectively speaking, it is a good perfume – simple but well-made – but to me it is an unquestionably male fragrance. It begins with beautiful (albeit very brief), moist citrus notes (not at all harsh like the lemon blast of Verveine’ by l'Occitane) which are, to my nose, quite feminine. In a minute though it morphs into a grainy smell which reminds me of grass sticking out of the crack in concrete. It is harsh and it is male. The dry down, vetiver and amber, is pleasant and tends towards a softer, unisex fragrance. The staying power is weak, two hours at most on my skin. I could not wear it because of that harsh, grainy middle part which definitely brings on the associations with very male colognes. It is not that I could never wear male fragrances (I could wear ‘Aramis’ for instance) yet this one is very... straight into one’s face, no subtlety. Update: probably grass and concrete is too severe comparison, ‘Verbena’ is more like not soft, strong and vigorous fresh leaves sticking out of the rough bark. I still maintain it is a good fragrance.

Verbena, neroli, citrus and white floral. Sour and sweet, green and herbal, and a bit powdery. To my nose it's not as fresh as Verde d'Arancia. It's a bit thick (not in a negative sense) -- white floral notes are too heavy -- so it's cloying in summer (above 30°C). Its projection shrinks after 1h or so, but lingers on fiber for 3h. Great price value.

For the price, this is a very clean lemon verbena scent, that lasts for a good 3-4 hrs. I think it leans masculine and would easily be mistaken For fresh out of the shower soapy scent. But with better performance than most dupes and a cheaper price point... Stick it in the gym bag or in the office rocker for a lemon herb pick me up

Very green and zesty, I found the opening a bit sharp, but as it settles down it becomes both fresh and powdery, a mix of verbena and bright citrus notes, before it dries down to a musky, woody skin scent. For the money, it's great value.

I really like Monotheme and their approach to scents. They absolutely overperform for the price. (Sea Salt is a masterpiece in that regard!) But out of all the Monotheme perfumes I’ve tried, Verbena gives me a headache, and I simply can’t use it. It has this piercing quality that makes me want to take a shower right away. I apologize to all the fans out there, but I ended up putting this in my toilet. Works great as an air freshener.

starts off a bit odd - the drydown is not bad tho, the vetiver ccomes forward and that with the citrus tinge is OK, bit powdery as well at this stage. It's not bad just cannot shake off some air freshener associations, it smells quite green. (and not citrussy)

I decided to try Monotheme Venezia's Verbena because I adore the scent of the actual herb, lemon verbena or vervain (Aloysia citrodora) and love the idea of having that scent as a cologne. Indeed, lemon verbena does come across as the leitmotif of this fragrance, though there are other notes, particularly musk, vague white florals, and a light hint of vetiver, that provide more the aspects of a perfumery product. By the way, if you're able to cultivate herbs, muddle a fresh leaf of lemon verbena when brewing black tea. It adds a wonderfully nuanced flavour; more florally sweet and less acidic than actual lemon. Speaking of tea, this scent does bear a passing similarity to Eve Arden's Green Tea, though of course the citric-verbena top note is stronger, and there is also more soapy white musk in the formula as well. I could easily imagine this cologne being rechristened as Vervain Musk. And as always, let me add an appreciative nod to Monotheme Venezia's utterly charming bottle aesthetic, so evocative of antique apothecaries. Edit: Following a hunch, I tried layering Eve Arden's Green Tea and Replica's Under The Lemon Tree (approx 1:1, adjacent sprays). The result is quite close, but not exactly like Monotheme Venezia's Verbena.

This is just too piney, I was very disappointed. I bought it blindly hoping it would be in the line of L'Occitane's ultra fresh Verbena, but it is far from it. Way too heavy, bitter, and green. Not enough verbena. More of the that green leafy scent. Too mature, and lacks that zesty refreshing feel of verbena. It is not bad, just misleading. Warm weather. Leans masculine. "OK".

Fresh, very green fragrance, for me not very citrusy but with a very pronounced scent of vetiver. Typically masculine but of good female use especially in the summer. Not very persistent and with a very short duration but all in all a pleasant eau de toilette.

It starts fresh and then it gets woody, herbal and, yeah, powdery. I would dare to say it gets slightly incense-y too. Lucky me, because all of the verbena perfumes I've tried so far tend to smell sweet and cloying on my skin after a few minutes.

Super green, astringent and fresh smelling. The yellow and green citruses hit you instantly with a herbaceous zing, and as it fades and dries down, it becomes a lovely, slightly masculine, slightly white floral, green/wood scent.

Green, aromatic, fresh and a bit powdery. Reminds me of some of the vetiver colognes I’ve purchased for my husband in the past. I prefer the limone over this one, because I love citrus, but this is a nice, fresh vetiver cologne.

Italian vintage barbershop strong veti/citrus. Definitely masculine. Intimate but for few hours it radiated to you. Lovely.
