Aoud Queen Roses

Applied on wrist....waiting, waiting. First reaction: there is a bracing, astringent, medicinal quality, reminding me of the antiseptic smell of a doctor's office. The aoud is a very strong note and quite strange for a "perfume". Perplexing. The top notes literally attack my nose and for the first few minutes I feel like I have been slapped in the face! Must be patient....Allow this formula to calm down..... The weird aoud character takes a bow and exits stage left. Next, a confident and quirky rose note strides to the front, making quite a grand entrance, and soon she stands alone in the spotlight on an otherwise darkened stage.... 30 minutes later.....in the afternoon a wonderful, heady, bruised rose is resting atop a bed of rich, wet earth after a spring rain; she seems to be sleeping off some sort of secret, indulgent activity, and woody aromas are swirling around, caressing the rose's petals. This is a softer, extraordinarily feminine rose - all woman, not spicy or sweet. She is not a shy rose, but she is on the quiet side. She seems confident and commanding, as well as refined and elegant - but one also gets the distinct impression she has a heretofore hidden, naughty side. Yes, a definite naughtiness and an invitation to come closer....closer...closer still.....that is, if you aren't too afraid..... Abandoning my initial thought to turn away, I place my nose into the center of the bruised rose petals and inhale deeply. 1 hour later.....creaminess, warm musky rosiness, sensual and satisfying earthiness. Soapy and dirty at the same time. Feminine sexuality - no, wait: masculine sexuality - no, wait: both. She is turning me on - I admit it even though I should stay in control. Confusing. Frustrating in a good way. No more dominatrix making my nose recoil. Just a wonderfully complex, very personal aroma which I want to explore. The Fragrantica description of this is ABSOLUTELY 100% right-on! It is an exploratory rose bored with her usual floral partners and instead dirty dancing with admirers from the narcotic and deep underground. I think I am loving this! It will require several wearings to really understand my relationship with this one! The next question for me will be to see how the husband reacts to this. In my experience, very few men like a strong rose note in women's fragrance. I have heard men remark that it reminds them of bathroom freshener or old ladies. Even if this scent turns me on, not sure what I will do if the men around me hate it..... Stay tuned, hubby will be home from work in a few hours and we shall put Aoud Queen Roses to the test!!

***** On Level 3 of the Tate Modern, London, there’s a mesmerising collection of Mark Rothko paintings called ‘The Seagram Murals’. Like segments of primordial DNA, these large canvases dominate and impose themselves on those who enter this inner sanctum with their ‘simple’ blocks of 2 colours entitled: ‘red on maroon’, and ‘black on maroon’. As part of a series they have a striking similarity to each other: literally variations on a theme with each painting expressing a density beyond the wall. Indeed, I recollect with fondness the time when my friends’ young son innocently and ironically remarked that ‘they all look the same, daddy’, as we adults admired this collection with degrees of intellectual critique! In this way Montale’s olfactory explorations with Aoud bear a striking artistic resemblance, as many of their dense creations are binary iterations comprising combinations of aoud and rose: the exquisite ‘Aoud Queen Roses’, for me, offering a centre-piece for Montale’s self-styled genre. As with the majority of Montale’s creations the impact of ‘Aoud Queen Roses’ is massive and unforgettable: huge brush-strokes of sumptuous rose adorning a canvas of bewitching, seductive aoud. Devoid of thorns, this is a warm, full-bodied rose and, extraordinarily, able to summon new physiological life somehow when making contact with one’s skin. The Aoud employed is similarly tantalisingly beautiful, resonating like an organic see-saw of contrasting qualities that flirt with dusty, earthy, animalic nuances, verging at times towards bitterness, to suggestions of impending sweetness as if masquerading as purest sandalwood. The crowning achievement, however, is the way in which the rose never withers on the vine, so to speak, and instead continues to flourish as if the aoud nourishes the flower above in symbiotic perfection. This creation sits closely to the wonderful ‘Midnight Oud’ by Juliette Has A Gun and less close to the Rolls Royce that is FM’s ‘Portrait of a Lady’. However, its closest neighbours are indubitably from Montale’s Collection itself: the latter a monumental achievement of opulence, grandeur and the highest artistic merit. Stunning!

Super beautiful. This was a blind buy and the only other real rose-oud fragrance I had tried was L'Autre Oud which just kind of missed the mark for me. It was nice but kind of elderly smelling, the oud was also quite a bit softer. This is just intoxicating deep dark roses, imagine a bouquet of DEEP DEEP red roses, this smells so rich. The oud balances the roses perfectly and yeah, it's just divine. Thick, heavy, but also very wearable. Super sexy. The oud is at the forefront on initial spray and over time the roses just emerge until they are neck and neck with the oud...the oud calms down to be less screetchy, more deep and complex...when I say screetchy...if you have smelled White Patchouli by TF, that's what I'm talking about. Almost burnt rubber. Weirdly this sometimes reminds me of WP, and I absolutely hate WP. Again, I think when you focus so hard on one note you tend to smell it more, so I try to focus more on the roses and then that goes away. Longevity 10/10 Sillage 10/10 I would really recommend getting a sample of this.

Let me start off by exclaiming that this is one saucy little Queen! The rose starts out authentic smelling, quite bright & frisky & flirty. It is not one-dimensional though, the oud lends this a smoky edge. It is quite lovely. The smokiness deepens and turns this rose from an ingenue to the dirty girl next door. It never descends into skank but it is alarmingly sexual in a vintage kind of way. I picture giggling girls wearing pink underwear with pin curls of all things! I could not identify what created this animalic energy, I guessed musk, but it turns out to be leather which makes more sense. I cannot actually smell the leather note itself but it speaks through a veil of rose, wood & smoke. Incredibly sexy. I do really like this scent but I keep expecting someone to come up to me in the office & ask why I smell like frilly knickers! I am going to keep this one at home, in the bedroom, from now on. PS - Agent Provocatuer can only dream of being this good.

Boy! When this fragrance turns, it really turns!!! I have been nursing a 2ml decant for two years, and when I got down to the last couple sprays, I realized it had turned...sour spoiled roses, mossy boggy overtones, and no trace of aoud left. A real scrubber in this state! So I can agree with Sherapop's first review when Aoud Queen Roses has spoiled. But when it is fresh and new, what a divine scent!! The top notes are bracing, medicinal, and icy to my nose. The rose, leather, and aoud are so masterfully blended in the heart, that the fragrance feels light and dry on my skin, although this is really a powerhouse scent with extreme sillage and stunning longevity. The leather note intensifies in the finish and feels like the perfect earthy counter-balance to the icy, medicinal start. I would buy a bottle of this if I knew it wouldn't go bad before I had the chance to finish it! If anyone can advise on the shelf life of theirs, I would greatly appreciate it!

Weird, divine, etheral, out of this world... smells like nothing I ever tried... The rose is a prisoner in an aoud cage; it's barely there in the beginning, overwhelmed, cold, sad, and distant; after a few minutes, it raises its beautiful, soft flower head, and starts spreading a fragile and delicate perfume... immediately it's caressed by a saffron air, that let's the rose know she is the queen of the castle, not the prisoner; from then on, she flourishes into a stunning and noble rose queen, able to rule the world, but still a prisoner between the walls of an exotic and misunderstood castle of aoud. This scent is unreal; I cannot describe it better than perhaps coming out of a fairy tale from Sheheradzada's 1000 nights; it smells very antiquated yet transcendental over time, space, sentiments. Truly incredible. Worth 1 million dollars for every drop, even though it sells for roughly $200 a bottle.

This was one of my faves years ago (see my 1st review)and I still like it a lot but my FB is almost empty (lasted years because I used very little) and I don't feel like buying again. Maybe Stella is filling my need for rose in autumn and it's a big rose with amber or maybe I'm just too conscious of my collection and spending money on perfumes is not the right thing to do now. I also noticed that in time the perfume turns, especially if decanted. I had a new purse spray and filled with AQR. Well, after only a few weeks it turned sour and vaguely rancid, I don't know why. Good perfumes usually stay very true, like the Guerlains, for years, but I'm no expert here. I really liked Aquila's comment: "If you are looking for something to scare away the masses, AOUD QUEEN ROSES is a step in the right direction" So true! LOL

Update: Well, had to take some time with this one to see if my feelings were truly love or just an intense lust and fascination with its eccentric character. After "experimenting" with AQR for a week or so, I have to say that the initial lust and fascination has indeed become a comfortable and satisfying place of "love" on my perfume shelf. UNFORTUNATELY, my husband did not experience the same lustful emotions that I did...I had a feeling he might not be drawn to the central rose notes of this fragrance. He was pretty emphatic that he didn't care for it :O( DARN!! Even though it doesn't work on my man, I think I will still wear this to turn MYSELF on!!! Ha Ha! Why not?? Life is short!!

I own and love Aoud Queen Roses as one of my more distinctive scents. It smells to me like the scent of an Indian princess (or Queen!). I'm not always in a mood for it and don't wear it as an everyday scent. For me it is beautifully crafted, eccentric elegance, deep rose, spice-saffron, hibiscus note is evident. I don't smell patchouli nor leather. I do smell aoud in this, especially in the beginning it smells like medicine smell or wet wood. Thta fades quite quickly (30 minutes) and leaves room to a beautiful mid-eastern romantic rose surronded by delicate saffron and hibiscus flowers. A true beauty. Not always appreciated by the masses.

I bought this blind based on reviews and description. This fragrance is pretty strong for the first 30 Minutes on my skin, although i just sprayed 2-3 times on neck area. Buuut after that it became very beautiful, warm and luxury. I have and had a lot perfumes, but never smelt something like this before. One of luxury perfume scents i ever tried. It smells like a beautiful sensual woman with power and character. I could smell it the whole day and on clothes it stays at least one week. Fazit: AQR is not for everyone. Either you like it or leave it. But you should give at least a chance. 9/10

Medicinal Oud combined with a beautiful rose - the classic middle eastern combination that has and will always work! Amazingly gorgeous combination that's deep, dark and oudy. Thus, it might seem offensive and irritating to the untrained nose, but to those who can appreciate it, it will fulfill your oud & rose desires. It offers great longevity and projection while remaining somewhat linear, with a fading rose note. Big recommend! Always have and will always love Montale's offering, especially considering the price of their fragrances. Rating: 9/10 - Amazing!

This lives up to its name. Just like a queen, she enters any room with a beautiful but dark presence. The hibiscus note is a lovely floral bomb on my skin & great addition to the rose/oud pairing. I get minimal patchouli and I don't get any leather at all but I don't care, I'm smitten. Three sprays at most since the sillage is great and I get 8+ hours on my skin. I spritz a teeny bit on the back of each hand before bed since I sleep with my hands near my face. Fabulous, just fabulous.

I bought this perfume back in 2007 and it was way too much for me back then. I had put it away and forgot about it until I rediscovered it recently. Maybe I got older and my taste in perfumes had changed, but this time I fell in love with it. It’s perfect for warm weather, one spray will last you a long time, especially after your own body chemistry comes into play. No fecal notes for me this time. Love its darkness and seduction...

this starts off with rose and a medicinal oud, but i love the montale oud in most of the ones i've tried. seventually the leather and oud come out and for a long while it's a gorgeous leathery-rose. it's heavenly. i think the hibiscus comes out more on the dry down, but it's primarily a leathery red rose. absolutely gorgeous, this has become one of my favorite scents.

I love love this. I bought this after seeing it compared to Attar which I also love. Beautiful rose oud. The hibiscus gives it a nice floral twist in the opening. As it dries down, it morphs and darkens. More complex than attar but still a simple scent. But nonetheless a beautiful intoxicating dark rose scent. In my top favorites right now.

Although its marketed as a female fragrance, its easily unisex as most montales are, the rose is "alive" and smells as rose should in a good fragrance, the Oud & leather are just enough to give it depth. overall its a real gem from montale!!

Oh my. Love at first spray. I had bought so many perfumes looking for a certain type of rose and I’ve found it in this. Just divine and I’m going to buy a big bottle, as I only have a sample decant at the moment. Really beautiful 🥰

I got a sample from Lucky Scent and love it. It starts with a pleasant oud note, not harsh at all, to my nose. Then it develops into this gorgeous rich rose scent that lasts 5 or 6 hours on me. I cannot smell any leather in it.

Magnificent rose with subtle Aoud opening, mellowing to soft and gorgeous,very sexy. Very, very long lasting with great sillage. I sometimes layer with Montales' Ta'if Rose. Hope they never discontinue it.

I sent a sample to my friend and she didn't like it. Oh well. I love it. A dry, medicimal, woody rose. Lots of sillage and staying power.

Amazing mix of oud and rose love it !

Aoud Queen Roses opens with an assertive oud, more rubbery and leathery than musty, animalic or acridly smoky. The oud stays at the front for about 30 minutes, waiting for a ruby rose unfolding its velvety petals before retreating to the sideline. I was a bit worried at first, that Aoud Queen Roses might subsequently choose the gourmand jammy raspberry-oud-rose path. But fortunately, the fragrance doesn't hesitate to shed most of its spotlight on the vegetal, more natural aspects of the rose: slightly honeyed, but mostly wine-y and tart, with deep red hue of prune and herbal geranium nuances. A medicinal, earthy patchouli is her faithful companion, enhancing the vegetal and wine-like facets of rose without taking away its soliflore status. When the rose finally grows tired of this dance and fades away after about 7 hours, the patchouli continues to hold on the skin with ambrette, leaving a musky floral trail with a medicinal zing. The sillage is moderate throughout, and the longevity can reach 10 hours. The development of Aoud Queen Roses is arguably not too complexe, with rose as the center and oud, patchouli and ambrette adding an extra-flavour, all three trustworthy pairings with rose and the execution is well handled. The result is a very effective woody rose, slightly darker than a rose soliflore, but still very recognisably the queenly rose. Personally speaking, Aoud Queen Roses is not my favourite rose-oud-patchouli fragrance because of its simplicity, as this genre has become quite crowded in recent years and I'd prefer something with a twist or two. That being said, Aoud Queen Roses is still a very solid choice, especially if what you're looking for is closer to a rose soliflore but still has noticeable oud and patchouli in the mix.

I'm not familiar with oud so I don't know that I can pick it the particular type in this. My first impression of this when sprayed is deep, heady, almost cloying rose and a lot of a patchouli. In those beginning stages it is still kind of bright and a little bit jarring (I don't care for fresh patchouli but aged is another matter). Just when I was at the point where I was ready to give up on liking the perfume, the leather came into play and changed everything. All of a sudden the loud rose starts to transform into something a little more mysterious and the leather gives the blend an edgy sexiness. I think the oud also comes into play at this point. There is a slight almost astringent element, a very very faint sweetness plus just a taste of spice. It keeps getting darker and more mysterious (but not heavier). It sizzles with sensuality and is enticing. It seems like a perfect femme fatale fragrance. At first the rose catches your attention and after you're smitten, the leather and oud wrap themselves around you enveloping you in a cloak of mystery making you want to get closer and get more. Once you do, it's over (any chance of free will or resisting) because you can't tear yourself away.

This perfume did not appeal to me that much on the first try. But then I tried it again, and now I can say that I really like it. It is very intense and strong. I feel strong when I am wearing it. It's a "don't mess with me" strong, for someone who knows what they want. Rose, leather and woody-patchouli notes make this a very poweful combination. They also give it a masculine vibe, so although this is supposed to be for women, men could easily wear it. It is also intense in silage, lasting power is moderate to good on my skin. I would not say it's for everyone, and in my opinion is the best for night wear and cold weather. But if you like these kind of scents, definetely try it. I have a tester, but I am considering buying a full bottle.

A perfect balance of oud and rose, like a dance between a couple in harmony, i smelled this on a date with my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it despite not having much experience on fragrances as even my mother loved this one despite absolutely hating oud, blended so well as the rose and oud keep complementing each other the more time passes, with a striking 8h longevity and good projection, one of my favorites I can't wait to get a bottle 7.8/10 *despite it saying for women but this is quite unisex and can be easily pulled off by a man*

Maybe the most intensive rose note in roses fragrances by Montale. This rose reminds me the rosy scent of Red Roses by Jo Malone and Sa Majeste la Rose by Serge Lutens, but it less intensive. It really beautifies its oriental base. But I prefer Red Roses by Jo Malone to it, because it smells mostly intensive roses.

It's silky, rosy and oudy. Well balanced. However I already have JHAG Midnight Oud and they are more than 90% similar, so I don't see any need to get a bottle. They are both good oud rose frags so just grab one with better price if you like this scent profile.

It smells nice, but the strong leather opening is all my nose gets for a while. My husband says it smells like a new plastic pool toy at first. Not worth it for me.

Pretty weak and/or mild for a Montale scent. At least this little sample vial is. Maybe a big spray out of a Montale can is a better test. But as some other reviewers stated, it isn't different enough from other taif type rose scents for me to drop any money on a bottle, no matter how reasonable online.

Just bought this one after reading some good reviews about it and I’m a little disappointed, it has that pissing/urinal vibe in less than 2 hours which lingers forever

Leather comes through very strongly, stronger than roses. Smells a lot like TF Rose Prick.

My husband recently bought me a gift from Lucky Scent. He told them to pick out three random samples with his purchase, and AQR was one that was included. I don’t usually like sampling from a decant dauber vial, preferring spray testing, but I know I don’t want to go any further. I’m the first to admit I like synthetic oud, preferring the lab creation over the real thing. But what Montale creates in his lab rarely works on my skin. Aoud Queen Roses is not an exception: a chemical rose is there with a heavy handed, loud and boisterous mix of other notes. Montale’s trademark, synthetic torture note is also present. Its why I can’t wear most of what he creates because this oud seems to be in all of his perfumes. I did get into the drydown, but it’s just not worth the nauseating opening. I understand that there are legions of fans that love this and others from the same brand but it’s a strong pass from me.

The initial spray of Oud Queen Roses was so intensely sharp and synthetic that it almost knocked me out. The opening is overwhelmingly chemical, and to my nose, it had an almost harsh, animalic undertone that, quite frankly, reminded me of something very unpleasant. I genuinely detected a strong farm-like note, though when I asked my husband to smell it, he didn’t pick up on it—so if you have a sensitive nose like mine, be warned! As it begins to dry down, the rose note becomes more dominant, taking center stage, but that initial off-putting scent still lingers beneath the florals. To me, it smells like a bouquet of overripe lilies and roses dusted with paprika—a combination that just doesn’t sit right on my skin. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me. While Montale has some incredible oud fragrances, this one is far too overpowering and polarising for my taste.

I had high hopes of liking this fragrance but unfortunately is not for me. It's a rather strange composition that is not for everyone is unique and for someone who is looking for something +++exotic. On my skin it opens quite strange the smells is strong of some chemical I think is the leather note that comes in really strong the way leather smells when you open a shoe box or it could be the aoud which I've never smelled before. It's just too chemical for my taste. Afterward the these notes calm down and the rose emerges. It's quite a pretty rose but short lived the composition doesn't hold enough in the drydown like something is missing kind of flat. It last 3 hours on my skin then nothing. I would suggest that you don't blind buy this perfume and it would be a love or hate kind of perfume and it's quite expensive.

Worst blind buy ever. I adore rose scents and love oud so thought I was safe. Problem is, I can’t smell a rose in this to save my life, only smells like rubbery oud and leather. I smell like a man. Literally gave ti to my bf cause theres no roses in this and it definitely aint for queens

Syrupy rose, loud and offensive to my nose. The opening is aggressive and nausiating and the drydown is dominated by that special synthetic sweet oud not, typical of most Montales I've tried. It's obviously one of those love or hate perfumes and it's definitely not a safe blind buy!

I love roses. I love oud. I don’t mind smelling like I’ve been partying in an oriental brothel. But I hate this fragrance. The oud is just too overwhelming.

This was not it, the oud is too strong, all the notes aren’t going well together, this is what made me stop blind buying perfume, I had a migraine for a good 8 hours and I was nauseous for 4 hours, it’s too medicinal, I usually don’t declutter perfumes but this was for sure a declutter, do not waste your money on this, not worth it AT ALL!!

I now believe that my previous sample was off somehow (it came from a decanter). Here is a review of a manufacturer carded sample and a sample decanted by a friend from his bottle. Very different from what I wrote below... NEW REVIEW (dependable sources): Montale AOUD QUEEN ROSES is a regal treat of primarily roses, aoud, and patchouli, with a big emphasis on the first two terms of the triad. The other notes add some zing and zest, no doubt, but I think of this as primarily, as its name suggests, a rose-oud perfume. There are many rose-oud-patchouli compositions out there today, but my impression is that we have Pierre Montale (or reasonable facsimile) for bringing oud to the un-unwashed masses: we Western gringos who have never set foot in Oman and would never have encountered this note in perfumery otherwise. The rose depiction here is like a huge bushel of rose petals, but this is not a soliflore because of the equally important oud note. AOUD QUEEN ROSES was my U.S. presidential election night selection, once the winner had been announced, and I got a bit carried away, spraying myself with all 3 ml of a generous decant sent to me by Couture Guru, who obviously has excellent taste. Three mls is a lot of perfume to apply, I realize, but I was not overwhelmed at all, because the blend is perfect, so spraying more on just meant more of a good thing. Basically, I was walking around within a moving cone of rose-oud scent. I was thinking today about the houses which produce perfumes which must be applied sparingly or else the whole experience is ruined--Lalique and Caron leap immediately to mind--but this perfume from Montale does not become toxic or unbearable in any way. Intoxicating, yes. For three days I could smell this beautiful perfume on a cashmere sweater I had worn that night, and it never suffered any degradation or degeneration at all. It also smelled great on my cat the next day, which is always the sure sign of a well-constructed perfume. (-; AOUD QUEEN ROSES is one of the best of the several rose-oud perfumes I've tried (I find it a bit less oud-y than ATTAR, which is also excellent), and it is now on my wish list. Aoud Queen Roses by Montale is a stunning, dense rose-oud combo with a signature Middle Eastern feel. The rose note is syrupy and oily, like a traditional rose tincture, and the oud accord is the quintessential resinous oud note found in most Montale scents. Montale has decreased in popularity over the years, yet they were once considered the pioneers of Middle Eastern niche. They offer some fantastic fragrances within an affordable price range and I still think them worth the hype. Aoud Queen Roses delivers what is promised; a sultry rose-oud combo with strong projection and a regal touch. Although the opening top notes pack quite a punch, this fragrance develops into a smooth and elegant blend of red rose, resinous oud, soft leather and patchouli. Aoud Queen Roses is an evening scent, perfect for those cooler evenings out on the town. Although marketed to women, Aoud Queen Roses is definitely unisex and appealing to both genders. My partner complimented the scent as I was in the process of testing it and was quick to ask whether men could wear it also. Some may find Aoud Queen Roses quite generic as admittedly rose-oud combos have been done to death. However, the perfumer's choice of using leather in the heart and drydown keeps this fragrance interesting and less predictable. I really enjoy oud, rose, patchouli and leather so it's no wonder that this fragrance appeals to me. This fragrance had excellent projection and longevity, lasting approximately eight hours on my skin. Aoud Queen Roses is still in production, although I'm not certain as to whether it has undergone any reformulations in recent years. My small decant is from 2012, and I have a feeling that it may have been altered since as the oud note smells quite realistic on my skin, yet some reviewers find the note considerably synthetic. I would have to compare the current formula to what I have on hand before purchasing to avoid any disappointments.

Montale AOUD QUEEN ROSES opens to my nose with a slightly aldehydic edge, and as it develops, I could swear that there is oak moss here, too. I’d even go so far as to say that this seems almost the definition of an “old lady” rose perfume (a compliment, in my idiolect...), and the smidgeon of aoud that I detect is really overwhelmed by the other, much more prominent components-—or reasonable facsimile, I should say, since aldehydes and oak moss are not even listed among the notes! In any case, I could definitely see a queen wearing this perfume-—albeit perhaps not her granddaughter-—but it seems a bit misleading to classify it as an aoud perfume. I found the same scanty aoud presence in AOUD ROSE PETALS, so perhaps the perfumers at Montale are concerned to keep their compositions as tame as possible. Another possibility is that there was a decanting error in the preparation of my sample vial. Further evidence for this hypothesis is that I really do not smell the patchouli about which others have complained—at all. On ne sait jamais... There are an awful lot of Montale perfumes, and it is very easy to make decanting errors, so I do not discount this possibility. For now, suffice it to say that if this really is AOUD QUEEN ROSES, then I can live without a full bottle. This is a nice rose perfume but not one that makes me want to rush out and add it to my collection.

I love rose scents - and I love Dark Rose scents best, the ones that have a deep or spicy or woody aspect. For example, C&S Dark Rose, OJ Ta'if, Caron Parfum Sacre, Amouage Lyric, and JHAG Citizen Queen are among my favorites. I was drawn by a description of Oud Queen Roses as being a Diva Rose, the kind that grabs attention and has a whipcrack of authority to it. I was expecting the astringent, medicinal aspect of aoud (agarwood), and was surprised not to find more of it in this scent. There is a very small amount evident in the top notes, but it disappears quickly, to be followed by a luxurious velvety rose. For quite some time thereafter, I smell nothing but this lovely rose, and eventually I do detect hints of another, sweeter, floral (I assume it is the hibiscus) and a smooth, earthy patchouli. I do not smell leather. Lasting power is very good - my skin tends to eat scent, but from start to finish, this fragrance radiated for about seven hours. All the same, there was nothing to this scent that made me feel that it needed to join Ta'if and Lyric in my wardrobe.

while launched in 2007, I only recently bought a flacon of this perfume. I admit I am a Montale Fanatic. the perfume follows the usual route: it starts with a Blast of the Tornado between Rose & Oud. they enhance, counter, exceed and suffuse each other. what is added, makes the difference, whereas also different Roses (de Mai) could have been used. and if Oud Al Dehn (deep and rich), Assam- Oud (woody, earthy, smoky), Laotian Oud Palao (Barnyard, intense, confrontational), Vietnam Organic or Japanese Kyara (menthol minty incense green) are used, I have seen Assam, IndoChinese, Nepali Ouds specified in Montale. I have a feeling here Oud is used that has a woody, rich, slightly medicinal character. the first hour is entirely the dervishes dance of Rose and Oud. then the Leather comes in and Hibiscus seems to lend a berry-like scent. all to make the perfume more complex. the Patchouli has a more Fixative and general mechanics. all in all this is a typical Montale Perfume with which I feel very lucky and which' flacon glamorizes my shelf. If King Balthazar was living it up and emptying the goblets... then this is his female equal. Long draped robe, your proud Queen smiling knowingly. You may as well give it up now since she doesn't even have to slay you, you will drag yourself into her cave. If I were a mystic I'd say this is what Mary Magdalene brought along to annoint him with. In the opening I almost got high from the onslaught of... *missing words*. The scene in "The Mummy Returns" where a feisty English argeology geek remembers her past lifes in colorful imagery? Sorta like that. Mellows out a lot from the almost nostril burning almost medicinal quality. Forget oysters, annoint yourself with this. I admittedly am new to roses. I LOVE roses - but can I wear roses? I sampled a few and scrubbed them off, feeling like a putpourri bowl. This - oh yeah. Make no mistake, she who wears it has stuff on her mind. I definitely got the leather note in it, too. Not sure if I am willing to pay that much for "edge", though.

This is a perfume where you have to let her scream for a bit before you take her out. I got a sample of this, knowing I'm not a huge fan of roses. On my first use, I thought it reeked of my grandma's house, all Rose Milk and must. Neither my daughter or I liked it. Today, I tried it again,being in an obnoxious mood. I absolutely loved it. Whether because I applied it directly after a shower using a lavendar body wash, or applying it over an unscented lotion, this had a soft musk scent that drew compliments as soon as I got to work. The rose had simmered down to a pleasant level, and though I could no longer smell it on myself after a couple of hours, I still got comments on it. Needless to say, my curiousity has been aroused. I'll see how I feel when my sample runs out as to buying a whole bottle, but it is definately worth a sampling.

I am finally transferring my old reviews from shopping sites, with some added new thoughts. I had Aoud Queen Roses around 2012-2013, and I first tried it on a cold day in Southern California, rare. Apollonuis wrote, the sweetest smells comes from the wrist, which is the primary area I apply my fragrances on. So, when I wore Queen Roses the top note exhaled a floral medley of deep roses which lasted 30 mins + and melts so nicely into that warm middle note carrying on with a buttery, deep rose. Not fake or a cooking type rose in a tea.The top/middle notes lands you into the base which is even deeper, the oud with a sweet tingle left from the floral. It is a deep scent but also sweet. It is a beautiful feminine scent, lasting for over 8 hours + like most Montale scents.

My first spray and I regretted blind buying this perfume. It smelt medicinal and very little to do with royalty or roses. However, after half an hour my feelings began to change. The rose started to bloom, slowly and subtly but then more confidently. The rose in this fragrance is dark and broody, it is mysterious and ethereal. The image I associate with this perfume is a dark rose in the middle of a harsh desert. Personally, I am enjoying wearing this perfume. Initially I thought it would not work in the summer, but I recently spent some time in the very warm South Africa and got nothing but compliments. But perhaps it would be too much to wear to work. It can be overpowering, but for it to be called "Aoud Queen Roses" it has to be.
