Deep Roses

Nose and skin chemistry is very interesting indeed... these reviews are a bit misleading. I can smell a heavy cloud of deep red strong Bulgarian rose. And I love it! It is an almost botanical similarities, like taking one million roses and concentrate in a whiff. It is dense, oily and persistent. Enormous sillage and longevity. For real rose lovers (and rose breeders). 3/5

it is a very sweet scent of rose at the begginnning, i expected more bitter and smoky, it was not waht i was expecting, i thought it would be darker! and i'd prefered it darker infact !and actually it becomes darker and darker but without losing this something innocent and spiced sweety aroma ! i was surprised using it very often and now i adore it !!

The Montale naysayers tend to maintain that this house simply produces perfumes combinatorially, by rolling together different proportions of a fairly small number of notes. My response: so what? When a perfume is a beautiful as DEEP ROSES, I could care less how it was hit upon. The key notes--common, it is true, to an amazing number of Montale perfumes--are rose, oud, amber, and musk. The top notes are listed as peony and mandarin, but honestly I do not detect them at all. The roses sweep in so swiftly to take over the show that the ephemeral top notes are simply lost in the shuffle. Not that anyone should care, because the proportions of rose and oud and amber and musk are just right. Key word: rose. To me, these seem to be red roses, blood red roses with velvety petals and no stems or thorns, as this composition is not green in the least. The musk and amber serve as a slightly animalic base, and oud is but an embellishment, like a dash of salt to an otherwise already excellent dish. As simple as it is, DEEP ROSES is nonetheless one of my favorite Montale creations. Now that I've drained two full sample vials, it's going on my wish list!

Like all the other rose perfumes I tried this one on my search for the rose perfume that most accurately depicted the type of rose in it in its living form and not a rose perfume. As it was my goal to include a soliflor of every flower that I love the smell of the most, in my wardrobe that best represented the live flower in a bottle. I tended to try the unisex perfumes, not because I am a male and I am at all guided by what others believe I should wear, I am just as apt to buy a perfume intended for women as I am one intended for men, if I want to smell like that, it's then a men's perfume because I wear it and I'm a man. Since I was looking for an uncluttered rose seeing all those other notes kind of made me feel leery of just how deep the rose could be with all those other things in there with it. As it turns out, because of all the very high quality the focus on the rose is never lost and when it is first sprayed on a hint of orange can be detected but soon fades leaving just the beautiful floral heart of pure natural smelling rose that is just the same sweetness as the natural flower. I know that the peony was there adding a hint of freshness to the rose. It kept it from getting weighted down or becoming overtly spicy from the oud. Yet the oud along with the amber and musk gave the rose depth and density that makes this masterpiece truly live up to its name: Deep Roses. So if you are looking for a nice, rich, deep, but not too sweet rose perfume that everyone in your immediate area but not everyone on the room is going to smell that is going to last throughout the day this would be a great one to get a sample of and give a try like I did. Then if you like it you can pick one up at a fairly decent price for the quality.

This fragrance has surprised me several times. When first applied early in the morning, I was suddently surrounded with ammonia! I swear I was shocked! I don't know if it was just a bizzare one-off - a strange morning disturbance of chemistry, bad reaction with my facial/body cream or what...? Luckily the pungent, gaseous smell seemed to gradually give way to pure, clean, very natural, fresh, straighforward rose scent that has lasted for several hours. Quite pleasant, really, but I was thinking how is it that it reminds me - once again - of both Musk to Musk and Attar? I have re-applied the fragrance midday expecting the ammonia stink again, but there wasnt' any...!...instead I got warm, pleasant mandarine along with the roses. And as the day went on, I was gently touched by deep, warm, sweet amber. Lovely, really! The bouquet of freshly cut, colourful roses has remained with me the whole day and now - close to bedtime, I am still getting soft nudges of the natural scent every now and then.

damn, i just now noticed peony is a note...aaand it's slapping me in the face along with rose. the rose is fine, she can stay, but i wish peony would go away. in this scent, it's actually drowning out the rose. which is admittedly pretty strong. this smells just like a rose hand cream i had once that someone smelled like pesticides. it's a sour rose with a strong green component happening. however, due to my distrust of peony, i think that's what's doing it here. i dunno it's green and too much peony which turns totally sour on me. skin chemistry be damned.

Mandarins, mix of peonies and light roses... And where are the deep roses?! It's pleasant enough. A little bit ambery also. But I wouldn't say that it's a rose scent. Fruity floral. Just not my cup of tea.

Complex rose absolute. I'd even say it goes as deep as the thorns and vines. I almost get a green botanical tinge and a brown grainy texture from underneath the rose. Neat from an observational perspective, but as a fragrance, it could probably only appeal to those with a taste for grannyish roses. The rose itself here is kind of sour, and although naturalist in style, it lacks the depth of freshness that it should probably have for a rose absolute. It's almost as though the source material were dehydrated, or malnourished, or some other cruel device to produce this adulteration to the aroma. I don't really get any of the other notes at all either, I would almost swear they must be intended to just create some kind of null base for the rose absolute. Not a fan of this one at all, as I take it as a cruel joke, and I don't find a single stylish aspect about it otherwise. I don't really think it succeeds for any other purposes either—except for maybe giving your toilet a deep cleaning.

I am smelling my wrist. On the left one side, there is Montale Deep Roses...and on the right is Montale Roses Musk. Roses Musk is light with an intoxicating musk supporting the roses that floats in the air and catches the noses of people around you in the best way possible. Roses and Musk layered perfectly. Deep Roses is an intoxicating full and lush rose. Roses and Orange accentuated by a supporting chorus of aloud that grows deeper like a baritone under the rich alto of rose on the dry down as the fragrance deepens and creeps ioto your skin like a rich oil stains leather. it becomes richer as it drys while the roses musk gets lighter and stays pretty like a fading song in the wind, the deep roses wraps you closer to its heart. The heart is a tree. a dark strong resin on the skin that is very log lasting. A lovely winter rose! Amazing scent!

this is definitely Bulgarian rose, it's full of it. ...I'm sure now that I prefer Moroccan rose as its more dewy and musky. I find Bulgarian rose screechy, sharp, dry and shrill - it hits the back of your throat and the sillage is enormous. Deep rose is no exception but it is also quite sweet and fruity with a tangy strawberry like note. It can be confusing - all the different types of rose but apparently Damascena is the same as Bulgarian and yet they're not - some Damascena is grown in Turkey and others are grown in Bulgaria - the soil makes the difference. I think if you like true Bulgarian rose grown in Bulgaria you'll like this. It Doesn't smell like a natural rose to me though, it's oddly synthetic.. also I love oud but I don't get that note in this just sharp fruity rose from start to finish, on my skin and clothes.

Just for fun I did a line up before writing my review. Deep Roses, Heeley's Hippie Rose, and Sonoma Scent's Rose Musc. It made for an interesting experiment, and of the three my preference is... Rose Musc. Oud is a note I can't say I'm falling in love with. It's very dry and shares the medicinal aspect of patchouli, but without the grittiness. What I like about Deep Roses is that it reminds me of Rose Musc, look and you'll see the similarities. But musc is just magical on me, and deep...not so much. There is something discordant here, when I breathe deeply I feel it. It lacks a smoothness and has an of-putting vibe, which I attribute to quality of ingredients. My summarizing comment is that this is a solid, middle of the pack fragrance. Not too strong, not too subtle, but also not too rich or too dry.

Got a sample from Montale, so it's true. I'm not so great at describing every note like some people are. But I have smelled roses in my life, and this smells exactly like them, only more potent. If you love the smell of roses, this has your name written all over it, or poured into it. I don't smell any wood nor musk, which neither am I that fond of, so to me that's a good thing. It's a very lovely perfume, but just not my cup of tea. I love roses, but not to smell like them or a funeral home. It's very potent and long lasting, which is a good thing. You get the bang for your buck. A rose by any other name, is just a rose :D

This is a bright, pure rose scent with some musk and woody notes. I don't get aoud, or amber at all in it. At the beginning there's a mandarine rush just for a few minutes, then the rose and peony blooms beautifully. Pure Rose would be a more appropriate name for this perfume, since it isn't a dark, deep, heavy rose. Deep Rose is the little sister of Montale's Roses Musk, altough not as sweet, and the cousine of Crystal Flowers, without its ambery-spicy drydown. A truly charming rose fragrance.

Update: this has grown on me now, if I spray just a tiny bit on clothing not close to my face and wait for the drydwon, its a actually quite pretty - a fresh, fruity rose, still quite dry but it does become much smoother and warmer and the strawberry note, I don't know why I can smell that :/ but its won me over.

I have only tried it once and i will do another retest. This is candy rose, my first impression, CANDY sweet. I kind of agree with PricklyandHot this is a fruity floral and I was missing the rose, then it bloomed a bit. I really got a lot of candy. I will edit my review once I gave this a proper wearing.

Worn this again after many years, a dark, deep, wine-y rose with a touch of dried fruit that dries down to a woody very slightly oud. Beautiful.
