La Haine is a fragrance that perfectly captures the raw tension and gritty realism of the film it’s inspired by. It opens with an explosive burst of smoky, metallic notes, evoking the smell of hot asphalt, burning tire rubber or the faint tang of gunpowder in the air. There's an industrial sharpness that feels urban and unpolished, paired with a dark, resinous undertone. As it settles, the fragrance reveals a softer, almost melancholic side, with hints of leather and a dry, woody base. Like the air after a birch forest caught fire. La Haine is unapologetically bold and conceptual, but surprisingly wearable for those who appreciate fragrances with depth and edge.

I have recently revisited this and wow. This is far from challenging, a rather easy to wear and a safe blind buy fragrance. It is smoky, but not aggressive in any way. It’s almost like the cooling essence of smoke that transitions into a sweet calming sensation.

The opening: worn socks. So far, so good. Burnt tire. So far, so good. When you come to, after blacking out, and after wiping off the blood from hitting your face on the ground, it turns into a great perfume. It’s not the fall that matters, it’s the landing.

Very well mannered, woody, smoky incense. Safe blind buy if you like smoky fragrances, the comparison with Trudon’s releases is spot on.

Not getting the leather or smoky notes that others noted (on the review page for when it was made by La Folie a Plusieurs - though the formula hasn't changed, AFAIK) - when it opens, it's more shiny metallic to me, those soapy aldehydes up front, and rubber - but, like, a fresh pack of rubber bands as opposed to tire-on-a-hot-day rubber. As is the case with many of these scents, it's reacting to body chemistry as it progresses - as the day goes on, the aroma on my shirt is different than that on my skin. Some of the wood and industrial notes are there on the fabric. But on my wrist, there's a rather forward, insistent citrusy note - can't quite place my finger on it, and there's no citrus listed among the ingredients. More green notes arriving - maybe that bay leaf is in there, after all, and a little unsmoked weed? Strangely, about three hours in it seems stronger than when I first put it on. Thinking I might have over-applied. I quite like it, I find when it opens it has a very "clean" aura in the vein of, say, CdG Odeur 53, with that implacable citrusy hint (probably the aldehydes) emerging as it goes along - fans of O53 would do well to check this out as an slightly less industrial alternative. Obviously this is one of those weird ones where different people seem to pick up wildly different notes. But it's very nice to my nasal palate, if a bit lighter than I was expecting given the previous reviews.

La Haine, wow, where to start. Opening is a fresh synthetic metallic blast that's strange - not nose singeing, not a scrubber, just different. If the blood note is there, it's quite subdued; nothing like Inexcusable Evil. The opening starts to mellow out and become smoother as the rubber note appears along with a mix of a woody note and leather. I've smelled burning rubber before and it is way more acrid than with this scent. The rubber smell didn't seem burnt to me. As it finally stabilized, La Haine took on a divided impression. Nose very close to skin smelled about 70% rubbery and about 30% sweaty, somewhat like subtle sweaty body odor. The scent bubble around me, however, reminded me of an old school men's fragrance - almost like the scent of some barbershop-y or fougere type scent after it had mellowed out somewhat, some hours after application. A really weird effect, but a very pleasant scent - not really smoky and not rubbery, although it remained rubbery/sweaty up close. Perhaps it was just the combination of the cedar, moss and leather that bloomed in the air. Performance was good - getting about 7 to 8 hours longevity on skin with a more compact scent bubble after the first hour or so. La Haine was one of the better modern/industrial type scents I've smelled.

My first impression is this scent is BOLD AND BRASH (lol) La Haine is on my watchlist but I haven’t seen it yet. I smelled this early on in my fragrance journey and felt like I got punched in the nose. Upon revisiting it, I can say the same, but in an enjoyable way! I smell burnt rubber like tires screeching on asphalt, tar, cedar, smoke and a metallic sensation that makes my nose tingle. Metallic in an industrial, dark way. I can see where the body odor comparisons come from, but like someone sweating bullets with fear and rage seeping out of their pores. Woody, herbal, leathery, smoky like a forest fire making its way into an urban area. It’s wearable - not on me maybe, and I feel fragrance is unisex but it does have “masculine DNA”. I get patchouli + smoke kind of which aren’t in the notes. Smells like desperation that leads to violence. Gritty, intense, intriguing.

Very interesting green leather. Smokey birch and leather with green notes. A little metallic and soapy. The combo of the leather with maybe the green notes might be the rubber smell people mention. Not sure, but It's not off-putting imho. Reminds my a little of Russian Leather with less of that frost thing it has, more smoke, but It's been a while since I smelled it. Need to sample longer to figure out performance.

initial notes of green, cedar, slight rubber but only if really thinking about it. takes a few moments to realize the leather notes, musky and slightly peppery, the sharp industrial notes that hit your nose first are softened and rounded out by the cedar and leather finish. after drying down, its a very wearable masculine scent, not nearly as isolating and unsettling as the movie. i dont get any notes of blood. many reviews say they get the smell of sweat or dirty laundry, and i think that lies in the sharp humanistic notes the fragrance gives, but i dont find it to smell like that at all really. However after drying down, the residual smell is that exactly of my grandmothers large handwoven wicker baskets she picked up in africa on her travels before settling down. Honestly it's all i can smell unless i get really up close. It brought me back to the memory of being a toddler, sitting in the tan and black woven bowls, feeling giddy and giggling in the idea that i had managed to hide in such a good spot to as never be found. So strange how scents can bring back vivid memories long, long forgotten. Now im sad thinking about my grandmom. Very wearble though would reccomend if you want something masculine in the typical woodsy fashion, but with an air of older, more distinct tastes.

Opens up with an aldehydic buchu, but in the drydown, all I get is a crisp bay leaf note (barely any birch tar), continued from the cedar and moss notes, which I’m not able to attribute any leather/rubber connotations to in the drydown. This facet is here to stay, so this was quite an underwhelming frag, considering that this didn't really come off as anything else in particular besides bay leaf and buchu / green notes.

70% of absolutely amazing, masculine, metallic asphalt with a hint of herbs 30% of a body odor This could be a fantastic fragrance, but honestly, it smells like a sweaty gym clothes of some guy who also wears fabulous perfume.

Metallic, but not in like a Ganymede kinda way. Definitely like a dry industrial rust. I don’t get any leather at all. The rubber isn’t photorealistic, and you have to smell really hard for it. However, it is heavy on the aromatics and fairly smoky, with a really dry, almost sandy, tar. The bay essence is super noticeable, like you took it straight out of a goulash or a gumbo or something. The cedar is very prominent too and it is very dry, and on the long dry down, smells like a really old vintage men’s fragrance in combination with the moss and the musk. This reminds me of two things. When I was 9 years old, my mother (or my uncle ngl i don’t remember) took my sister and I on a shoddy motor boat trip across the Croatian islands. On the way to a small uninhabited island, I looked into the distance and saw a pillar of smoke coming from a forest way off in the distance on a neighbouring one. I was told by the guide that the area had been experiencing a drought, and I most certainly believed that. The trees were basically yellow. The sun was beating down hard on my face and my sister was seasick, eventually throwing up overboard (lol). But once we got to this small island, i stepped on the beach and immediately regretted it, as the sand was full of small sharp rocks and there were dead branches everywhere, with some of them burnt for some reason unknown to me. You can kinda guess which scents evoked which aspects in this memory. I’ve never seen the actual namesake for this fragrance, but it reminds me of this one scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion, where there is a flashback of Shinji playing all alone in a sandbox with a massive orange evening sun in the background. It isn’t necessarily a happy or a sad memory, but just something so somber, melancholic, and solitary. I can’t even rate this because that would be like rating a random memory from my childhood.

Upon first applcation it's a beautiful cold wall of metallic evergreen notes glistened with a set of aldehydes to create a somewhat soapy, citrusy effect that plays nicely into the bitter, mossy base. It's less sharp and pungent than I would have guessed, but I gradually pick up some smoke or phenolic elements from the birch tar that reveal a very nice rubbery leather impression. It succeeds in reminding me of cold, damp cellars, sharp metal, etc. The moss may be doing the most there, and that combo of metallic spices and mossy woods feels edgy, distant, and a little abrassive. I further pick out notes of damp soil, and a lovely herbal pine aroma, which is where this begins to be equal parts avant-garde and grounded in traditional masculine woods. There's a light tingling ozonic effect in the nose alongside a subtle camphor from what I'm assuming is the buchu, and for that it's invigorating and actually attractive in a hyper modern fresh way. Overall a very unique take on a fresh leather, with shades of bay, pine, cool spices, and moss peaking out from under the darkness. Mark Buxton did a great job here.

I’m pissing myself laughing at all these esoteric reviews— I work with metal and yall it just smells like a metal shop. A really dysfunctional metal shop. its the metal shop when I stab myself on a rusty nail. or the metal shop when I burn my arm on welding that’s still hot. or the metal shop when somebody’s rubbery phone case melts too close to the fire. It smells like a metal shop but EVERYTHING is going WRONG. Somebody is losing their fingers or worse LOSING THEIR JOB. Truly just try fking around with some metal and a torch to get this scent for free and not $160 wtf. It might still cost you an arm and a leg but hey your body parts can regenerate— money can’t :D

A fragrance as bold as the film that inspired it. Smoky accords, metallic notes, and hints of burning rubber perfectly capture La Haine’s gritty urban environment, social tension, and rebellious spirit. It's like wearing a protest on your pulse points. Where to start with this one. It's one of the most masculine fragrances you'll ever smell, and yet, a bit unwearable. It smells like a forest fire has swept through a wood of birch trees and also the smoke that starts to come up off of rubber as you hold a lighter underneath it. Very interesting but it may be best left as a novelty that you catch an impression of once in a while but don't spritz yourself with. Update I can already sense the smoldering birch is fading away, leaving an intense, non-burning rubber.

just sprayed myself with this after seeing la haine in a theatre. I feel like vincent cassel, desperately roaming the streets of paris at night. the fragrance is almost off-putting it's harsh, metallic, plasticky sour. violence in a bottle
