The Virgins

A masterpiece from a master nose, Mark Buxton ! This series of cinematic creations are very underrated and not widely known. The perfumes were initially created as a perfume project relating to films. Perhaps that was a mistake and people found the whole idea gimmicky (?) Too bad. I own five of them and think they are all incredibly unique. The Virgins is my favourite. A narcotic rose takes centre stage here, (think Nahema), but without the dusty/stale note that caused that perfume to flop. This rose, supported by iris and violet will tran to seventh heaven. An amazing lipstick-iris scent. Melancholic, nostalgic and addictive. Powdery iris, not too heavy on the tonka, a hint of old books. Love to wear this when I am relaxing in the evening. A solid contender for my personal top 10. If you are contemplating to buy "lipstick fever" by Juliette has a gun, please try this one first! So much better....

I adore this perfume because it does this cool mind trick with me. It takes me back to the sensation of just reading and watching the book and film for the first time - The Virgin Suicides. That feeling of aesthetic joy and pleasure one experiences when they first read or watch something they like and this sadness and envy, that this moment will not repeat. Virgins takes me back there even if only for a second. Digging into the "notes" you find it all very close to the film: young and pretty (aldehydes and powdery lipstick smell) with a myrrh and benzoin notes (nod to the religiousness of the family and the death rites). Every time I wear it I hear "Playground love" by Air playing in my head like a soundtrack only I can hear. If you haven't seen the Virgin Suicides, heard Air Playground love and smelled Virgins I envy you, you have such a treat ahead of you.

The Virgin Suicides, American Beauty and The Hole playing back to back aesthetically from my projector on my white clean minimalist wall in my new home... while I watch from my en-suite restroom with double French doors. I organize my restroom shelfie with all my luxury beauty products and mostly niche perfumes; shelfie picture worthy. The plethora of airy, dark, sleek scents and visually pleasing aesthetic compliments the movies. Another loved Moth & Rabbit scent, retro and musky 💜

If anyone has a sample of this in EU/Germany, please contact me! I definitely need a discovery set from the brand, they look very inspired! From the amazing combination of notes, I believe this will smell bautifully gothic in a feminine way! I nees to test this! If it resembles my beloved discontinued John Galliano EDP, I'll throw a party!! haha ❤
