Alien Man

Man, oh man. My first few days with this fragrance I experienced possibly the widest range of emotions regarding a fragrance I have ever felt. First spray and immediately I was DESTROYED. This IS NOT the fragrance I have asked every department store employee in my state for information on regarding its release. This CAN NOT be the cologne I waited years for and ordered immediately after receiving the surprise release email. This smells....... DESIGNER. This isn't a Mugler, no possible way. After about 20 minutes wearing this fragrance, I picked up on a somewhat sweet scent in the air, soft and smoky. I grabbed the neck of my shirt and sniffed, but was still unsure of how I felt about this fragrance. It WASN'T A MUGLER. It wasn't in your face and filling the room. It wasn't completely unlike anything I had ever smelled. The rest of the wear was filled with confusion and disappointment, until my fiance came home from work and hugged me. Immediately she asked "what is that?! I love it!" Okay, point 1 for Mugler. I continued to sniff and sniff until I went nose blind to the intriguing, perplexing scent emanating from my body. After 2 more uneventful wears on consecutive days, I placed my bottle of Alien next to my Mugler collection and continued with my rotation. A few nights later, I tossed and turned and couldnt sleep. After hours of restlessness , I drifted off. I dreamt of being in love with a fragrance and telling everyone I saw about it. The next day I woke up and got dressed and wandered aimlessly to my collection. There was only one bottle I wanted to reach for: ALIEN. I sprayed three sprays and the scent finally revealed its true self to me. The opening is green by definition but strangely, purple (in a Versace Man sense of the word). It is definitely designer, but it doesnt smell similar to anything else you'll find at any major retailer. The real magic begins as the opening fades and the smoky, soft leather and cashmere begin to show themselves. The white amber comes through a little in this stage to add a slight sweetness, but is definitely in a background role. This is when the scent is very PURPLE and at its most attractive. It is again designer, but unlike anything else on the counter. It has a strong scent cloud within about 6 inches for the first 1-2 hours and then softens in strength but it definitely stays noticeable. This is SEXY. This is refined. This is luxurious and mysterious. This is what the cover of Purple Rain smelled like. This is extraterrestrial. THIS IS A MUGLER. Angel and A*men, Alien, and Aura all defined Mugler because they were so unique and unexpected and this fits the mold completely. Its absolutely different from what was expected, but really, what else would you expect from this brand? This is a hate at first spray that will turn to a love after being given a chance. Its a designer opening that transforms into a completely different designer mid. Its a close encounter scent that won't impress the person you want from across the room, but will seal the deal when you get them in close enough to feel your body heat against theirs. After 6 hours the white amber comes through strong and changes this into a sweet, beautiful skin scent that mixes well with your natural odor in a similar fashion to Molecule 01. This remains for another 2-4 hours on skin, while the mid stays for anywhere up to 16+hours on fabric. This IS unlike anything I have ever smelled and it DEFINITELY earns its brand's name. Those of you who were disappointed when trying it at a store or on a card, I challenge you to buy a 1.7 oz bottle and try to deny its greatness after a week of wearing it. If it was any one of its stages it would be forgettable, but the 3 combine to become something special. Something much, much greater than the sum of its parts. Something MUGLER. Opening 6/10 Mid 9/10 Close 8/10 Sillage (Trail) 7/10 Projection 8/10 within 6 inches, but 4/10 beyond that (2 hours of about 1 ft of projection in opening/early mid) Longevity 8/10 on skin (6-10 hrs depending on intial amount of sprays and activity while wearing) 10/10 on fabric (16+ hours consistently on clothing) Uniqueness 10/10 Blind Buy Safe? Yes, agreeable scent throughout. Will definitely receive compliments, especially from people outside of the frag-comm. PAPER DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE. TRY ON SKIN. Overall 8.5/10 A great addition to any collection that will excel as a date scent/close encounter scent. Definitely office safe. Best in weather below 65F degrees. Possibly cloying in warmer weather. Ranks ahead of Mugler cologne and some of the less popular A*men flankers, but behind some of the more noteable flankers as far as masculine Muglers go. Definitely has interesting potential for flankers of its own.

My very first set of sample cards contained - along with many other fine fragrances - Alien Man by Mugler. I sorted eagerly through the cards to grab the Terre D'hermes, YSL and Chanel, and looking through them after I'd found the "desirables", I came across "Alien Man", I looked at it with disdain and tossed it aside. I hated the name. I hated the logo. I didn't like the bottle and I didn't like the marketing. But as I do, in my obsessive way, I slowly sniffed my way back through the line up, one by one. Regardless of what I thought of them, I gave them all further smells. Oh ... it's not too bad I guess. Days later, I reassessed and evaluated them through the drydown, and came back to it again and again ... this Alien Man ... it's actually one of the better ones. Once I decided it might be alright - I went ahead and wore this to work one day, and I decided it was a real winner. Not only did I no longer hate it, I was convinced I had to get myself a bottle of this. The opening is anise-y, vibrant mint, and kind of bubble gummy to me. When I got it on my skin, the scent was so much more complex, the idea of dill and thyme in the notes made sense to me, where they hadn't before when I only tested them on paper. But they were nothing like how I thought of them in cooking; the sweetness of the vanilla comes all the way up, and takes anything bitter or unpleasant out of those tones and makes them totally work in this opening in a way that is completely unlike any other fragrance I've smelled. Even though I can still see them for being herbs, they aren't necessarily herbaceous; that's the only way to describe it. The other elements make it comply to the theme - yet each and every one of these top notes comes through in seemingly fluctuating waves. You can perceive every note, yet it's all harmonious as well. The middle is leathery and soft. Still many of the top notes linger as the leather makes itself apparent and the harmony of notes is still baffling to me: I seriously don't understand why this works so well but it does. It is so unique and gorgeous. The dry down again sees some of those notes still linger, as the vanilla becomes more apparent the cashmere note makes it's way into the picture. This is so good. Like a theme developed early on, all the instruments in the orchestra are added in, all of them are playing their parts to bring about the fullness of the initial idea. As a musician and a visual artist, this fragrance right here is the one that told me the loudest: fragrance is an artform! When I initially saw this logo and name, I was turned away. Our olfactory senses are said to be tied very closely to the part of the brain that processes emotion. And I had a strange emotional response to this name and branding that seemingly just made me dislike the smell, but working past that ... I realized what an amazing fragrance I nearly missed out on. And I realize there could be more to it, as to why this fragrance has such a polarizing reputation. But on my skin, this is absolutely gorgeous. I also suspect that this fragrance has a good amount of naturals in it, that I think cause it to be somewhat unstable (not sure if that's technically the right word, but synthetics seem to be far more stable and linear, by contrast), because even as I wear it, so many different notes come through at any given time, it again, is not like any fragrance I've put my nose to, in that regard as well. Maybe to some people this can come off as all sorts of different (unpleasant) things. It seems like how this one is perceived is more heavily dependent on skin than most other fragrances. As it happens, the performance of this fragrance on my skin is also very good. Projection is on the high side of moderate, and scent trail/sillage is really strong on my skin. This was the first fragrance I ever wore that I could smell my own sillage after walking back through where I had previously been. This frag is also very versatile (maybe just not potent enough for winter), and as I said, super unique. I love it. Without question one of the most interesting, well-constructed, artfully made, beautiful bottles of juice I've come across. Scent is a 9.5/10. Over all 9.9/10.

So, how to put what I want to say about this cologne? Well, that's relatively easy, I really love it. However, why I love it is the real intriguing story to this review. When it was first released here in the US, I was out Valentine's Day shopping at Macy's to buy my wife Tiffany & Co. Intense. Of course, we fragheads can't simply walk into Macy's without checking out what's new. So, I am being shown all these various colognes, in which all smelled good. Since then, I have purchased many of the colognes they showed me. There really are a lot of really good fragrances out right now. One of those being Alien Man. Here's where it gets crazy... out of everything Alien Man really stood out to me. Trust me, I have bought a lot of the big names before I bought this one, so why did I wait instead of just getting it if it is so good? Well, because it was good for a totally different reason that I didn't know how to explain until now. Most colognes drag you in and say, Hey look at me, I'm an Ambroxan bomb, I'm an Aquatic Ambroxan Bomb, let me show you how tobacco-woodsy I am, etc.. the thing is they shout it. I don't want for you all to think of Sillage. Because to me, Sillage is how far it reaches because of the decibel level it shouting at. Alien Man works so well for the exact same reason people with terrible B.O. smell from 12 feet away. It's changing the way your natural body odor smells and allows it to emanate throughout the day. Meaning, if a cologne sits on your skin and just evaporates as the hours pass by, and that's how you achieve the smell everyone pictures as they pass by you. However, if a cologne is altering how your natural body oils radiate around you, it's not having to work as hard to shout. Your natural body oils will do the main shouting, all Alien Man has to do is make that smell pleasing to the nose. In which, it does so well with my body oils. It gives off a wonderful Leathery, Ambery, Woodsy vibe, and every so often you may move around and get more of one note than others. Sometimes, the Anise and Osmanthus combine and stand out, or other times the Geranium combines with the Smoked Beechwood to stand out. I love when I get that hint of Lavender, Vanilla, Mintiness accord ever so often as well. By the way, no, I don't get pickles from this, Ever! That is what Mugler has ALWAYS done! No, not pickles, lol.. Look at A*Men, some people smell one group of notes, the next may smell other notes, and even then, depending on the day the same people will say they can pick out other notes more the following day. To me, Mugler succeeded once again in that same aspect. Alien Man is not meant to be the next Sauvage, it's just for the man who wants to smell good, without having to be the squeaky wheel to get the oil. Often, we think of fragrances and want the loudest notes to get the most compliments. So like Clark Kent/Superman, knows how and when to be humble, yet when he is needed to be powerful has all the strength ever required. Alien Man achieved this status so perfectly. In closing, why did it take me so long to buy Alien Man? Because, I had to understand that not all colognes need to be loud to get attention. I had to mature to the standard it set for those who dare to be strong enough to wear it.

Imagine dior sauvage edt being edited with the characteristic mugler signature “niche dna” ...that’s that. I get utterly nose blind immediately due to tons of ambroxan paired with iso-e-super, though I know it’s a monster in projection and longevity because I’m getting complimented of how good I smell and No One can identify it as something they have smelled before. I recon that’s the strong asset of this scent..massively intriguing (against the designer grain) scent, which is meant to be worn by a few but enjoyed by almost everyone. It comes close to dethroning the legend A* Men, which is so unique to me, just because of the versatility and utility of it during the hot summer months. Longevity, I start to get whiffs when the ambroxan settles a bit for 5-6 work hours without reapplying and pretty sure the sillage is there otherwise I wouldn’t be able to notice it myself. Past 8 hours you need to reapply for sillage and projection but it’s pretty acceptable the performance given the practicality of the refillable bottle and size (always buy the small one). The availability of this versus the A*men checks another strong point in someone’s signature fragrance demands. Another one is the beautiful gem looking bottle and the out of this world pressurized atomizer which puts dior’s to shame...every spray, an experience. Huge love ❤️🫶. ***IMPORTANT READ THIS!!*** I was overly excited during the 2 weeks those 50ml lasted (yes I do overspray to make it stay). Was wearing it mostly in the gym because after 30ml used I really got bored of it..truth is, this could never become Dior sauvage or take over the legend father of the brand A*men. It is just so linear ambroxan heavy and sharp anise woody, but yet not classy enough to dress it up..and not pleasant enough to pinch your nose for the entire day. It’s closer to other anise fragrances like “Diesel fuel for life”, basically anise-ambroxan bomb which dries down to ordinary woods.. all I wanted to say is I’m not buying a refill for this..smells niche indeed , but there are far more addicting fragrances than this to spend your resources on resupplying. I’m gonna miss the atomizer 😩

My second review (and proper one) after obtaining a full bottle on whim, as it was being offered quite inexpensively and thinking "why not?" I must change my original opinion on Alien Man. I'll unpack, so forgive the longish review: I think this is an excellent fragrance and, at the very least, a somewhat daring release at this moment in perfumery. First, to deal with the poor reception this received. It got panned for not sharing DNA with the women's version: this is a valid point. Second, (and more impactful) Mugler's reputation for men's fragrances rests entirely on their A*Men lineup. The vast majority of those are bold, powerful, and maintain a detectable DNA similarity. In short, we've become accustomed to this "Muglerade" as a yardstick to measure all others against. Well, Alien did NOT follow that suit at all, and most of us reacted with dismissive derision. BUT-However much you or I love the A*men series, how many of us would wear them every day? How many of them are "daily drivers", office-appropriate, or wearable in settings other than parties, clubs, outdoors, or going out? Not many. I love them, but am forced to admit they are situational fragrances. I believe Alien was engineered to be a daily wear kind of scent. It is not bold, in-your-face, thrill-ride. The scent unfolds gradually, warmly, and remains understated throughout. I find it a soft, intriguing fragrance with subtle nuances that blend old school with modern taste. In an era of Sauvage, BDC, Aventus, etc, Alien goes in a very atypical direction than mere cash-grabs that imitate the DNA of these kind of commercial successes. Anise? Dill? Osmanthus? Thyme? These are not "safe", trendy notes. Rather, I applaud Mulger for creating something original in this day of clones, dupes, smell-a-likes...and guess what? NO ABROXAN! That fact alone deserves praise. Ok, so not everyone will love this fragrance and that's natural, but I have come to enjoy it a lot and find it an excellent, original, and compelling scent that is highly versatile. I'm glad I gave it a second chance.

I just got this and Alien Man Mirage because of the sale they had on Muglers website. I was going to get A*Men Ultimate but it sold out before I could complete the payment process. I still haven't gotten a chance to smell it yet so I don't know how good it is, but I can say that I thoroughly enjoy both of the ones that I received with this original version being my favorite of the two. First off I get great performance and sillage from this stuff. I'm talking 10-14 hours of usable longevity before it's nothing more than a skin scent. I'm getting at least 4-6 hours of good arms length sillage also and that is definitely right up there with the best performing designer fragrances I have. The scent to me is very unique and different without being the least bit off-putting. I'd say it's definitely a fall-winter-early spring scent because of the potency of the fragrance and because it is a good bit sweet, but it's not at all bubble-gummy in it's sweetness. It's smooth, leathery, a little licorice-y but not as much as Pure Tonka or Sauvage Elixir is. My wife enjoys it and said that it's different to her a little as well. I find that all of my recent favorite designer fragrances are all a little different than the average release these days. Bad Boy Le Parfum with it's definite cannabis note, Sauvage Elixir with the amazing spiciness and the licorice note that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ! ! ! And then, this one. I have several niche fragrances that are rated very highly that take much less of a risk than this fragrance does yet people love such as Grand Soir by MFK or Halfeti Cedar by Penhaligons. I actually enjoy this just as much as those two and maybe even a little more!!! So get up and go check it out when you get a chance because for the price you can get it now, this stuff is truly amazing. In the fragrant cosmos, Alien Man by Mugler emerges as a formidable contender, a celestial dance that disrupts my top five all-time favorites. When I embrace it on certain days, an essence akin to Cavendish or cherry pipe tobacco weaves around me. It's a scent that resonates with the die-hard aficionado of powerhouse fragrances from the eras of the '60s, '70s, and '80s. The anise presence is otherworldly, a rarity in the modern scent realm, showcased in proportions that captivate within Alien Man. As autumn's embrace deepens into icy winter, this fragrance unveils its perfect harmony. While some label it as formal, I uncover its charm in certain casual moments. There's a subtle femininity, a nuance not solely defined by strength, reminiscent of fragrances of yore, sort of like Ted Lapidus's masterpiece. If I were the average soul with only three scents to my name, I'd interlace Alien Man with Aramis and Anteus throughout the winter chill. A tinge of melancholy settles as this cologne fades from availability, yet I cherish my 3.4 oz gem, acquired at a gift set's steal compared to a standalone bottle. The atomizer on this seems to be much different than my A*Men bottles. While the atomizer is clicky and almost feels ineffective, it actually seems to almost perform in an aerosol-like manner. I highly recommend any old powerhouse lover to pick this up when they don't want too much power at their behest. There's a certain cleanliness that resonates with this fragrance and it really shouldn't. You would think a comfortable scent like this would become a bit too "human" over time but it maintains its almost naturally antiseptic vibe throughout its complete wear cycle. To add to this fragrance's effectiveness, my five and a half year old told me that I smelled like the stars. I couldn't agree more. 8.8/10

Well ... This is a really alien fragrance, for better or for worse. I've laughed a lot seeing the faces of YouTube Reviewers when smelling it for the first time; most of them didn't know how to react or what to say; I guess the same thing happened to most hardcore Mugler fans, who were expecting "Pure Jasmine" and ran into Alien Man. IMHO this scent is an avant-garde and futuristic artistic fragrance; finally a new and creative concept! And no: This one doesn't smell like pee - or a stable - mixed with iris, spices and wild flowers... It's not that kind of "artistic". Of course, Alien Man is far from what lovers of the classic, the ordinary or the obscene expect; this fragrance is not for everyone and I'm amazed at how daring it is... Being a designer release, it's definitely sassy. But... What do you expect from an alien fragrance?? A fougere..? A gourmand..? It's true that it's difficult to describe Alien Man: It's herbal, a little sweet, floral, woody, leathery with nuances of incense, clean and soapy but dark at the same time... For me, this is a scent that mimics the modern fragrances of today, but that has something very strange hidden in its DNA... Something strange and mysterious... That is exactly Alien Man. - Longevity: Easy 8h+. Great performer in the cold. - Projection: Average to moderate. - Mood & Ocassions: This is a perfume from an "outer world"... Wear it when you feel it; in any situation or circumstance it'll achieve that pleasant, mysterious and magnetic aura. - Conclusion: This fragrance is original and daring at the risk of being misunderstood: I've already said it, it's a futuristic artistic creation. Also, not everyone can wear an "alien perfume" for men. I just adore it. I come in peace.

I sampled this about a year ago and liked it enough that I kept an eye out for it to pop up on the discount sites for the price range I was looking for and it had recently done so, so I pulled the trigger on a purchase. Having smelled this prior to looking up the note breakdown, I expected to see: a purple floral, a dark wood like mahogany, and something semisweet but sharp - and I had no idea what that was going to be but was expecting to be surprised when I found out. And boy was I surprised to see that what I must have been picking up at the end had to be the accord created by the anise and dill. I know that the dill note is somewhat unpopular, but back last winter and today after acquiring my bottle, I only catch faint whiffs of the dill alone, and then only for a millisecond and it's back to overall impression described above. It's a really interesting choice but I think it works very well to add that touch of sourness to counter-balance some of the sweetness and keep it safely in the "masculine" range. The sweetness actually picks up as it converts to a skin scent, becoming an almost chocolaty wood fragrance by the end of its transition. The lavender was a bit of a surprise as I am so familiar with it but never would have picked it up as the purple floral I was smelling - it came across much deeper, more velvety where lavender is usually a "high-pitch" note for me. On me I love this, but it does seem to be one VERY prone to whims of individual skin chemistry - which either intentionally or ironically is precisely what the women's Alien has also been known for for its long tenure. On me this is great, but also very mature, somewhat formal, and best suited for cold weather.

This was a blind buy for me and I am very pleased with it. The opening is sweet but fresh and a little spicy. Maybe it's the anise and dill playing with the osmanthus, but it almost smells like black currant, but not super sweet like in John Varvatos XX ( I really like that one too). I'm a big fan of the black currant smell in fragrances but it doesn't last too long on this one, maybe 20-30 minutes. As it dries you get the smoked birch, it's very smoky for a bit and as it continues to dry it just becomes a very clean slightly sweet/spicy aroma. The cashmere and leather really shine in the dry down and it just smells super clean and smooth with some spice and a hint of sweetness. Definitely a unique fragrance in today's releases but it's also something everyone will appreciate. Great performance, and if you're conservative with the atomizer I'd say you can wear this during a summer evening. Fall, winter, and early-mid spring it's easily day or night and a 2-3 spray depending on the situation. Total side note, but am I the only one who has slight anxiety attacks when I think I might be cloying because I oversprayed? I've gotten to where I'm one spray at work (two for molecule 01) and no more than 3 anytime else. I don't get how some people are putting 6-10 sprays on, anyway, Alien for Men is an awesome fragrance and I would suggest you buy it. For 30$ at fragrancenet.com you can't go wrong.

In a way I'm glad they didn't go the jasmine route because the women's alien reformulation is so white soapy floral compared to the original rich indolic sweet alien. That's probably the main reason for all the hate on this, but the same casual quality that people say makes it smell typical or boring is the same quality that makes it more wearable. At first I thought the same thing because I expect more of a mugler, but after sampling I realized it's actually a more wearable version of a mugler which is usually more bracing and distinct. I agree with others who've said this is like a futuristic 'department store' scent from another planet, in that way it keeps a mugler quality while also being casually wearable. But I do hope that the new mugler team invests in some more high quality scents that'll make old mugler fans happy. I do like this a lot though, enough to vote love over like because it's fresh and aromatic while still being hearty. It's basically herbal-fresh amber+leather. It also has a new book quality that I really like, maybe that's the cashmeran+leather. My favorite aspect of the scent is the herbal, spicy coniferous notes and the unique dill, but the profile is mostly amber+leather especially as those top notes dry. I got it at a good black friday sale price. I hope they make a flanker with the green notes amped up, how about an emerald gem bottle?

I do like this. I know this is going to sound so weird but it reminds me of Lynx Africa. Alien conjures up wierdo metallic formulation but actually a blind test would make it hard for me to discern beyond this is a quality scent. It's a very fresh opening, but it becomes quite minty after 5-10 mins. I like the sweet drydown. I was wondering if this really was unisex until it dawned on me there is a very well known female perfume in this category. It has that kind of CK like androgenic signature. I wouldn't have said this was a male scent were it not for the notes of leather coming through I don't think this is a signature scent as in everyone around me will suddenly turn their heads as if it was an Imi Kamoze video. Most people have absolutely horrendous taste in aftershave anyway clinging to clones of issey miyake, Sauvage, one million (*puke*) , Brut This is a scent just for me. And I think it will be a classic in its own right. I just can't work out when I would even wear it. Don't get this unless you appreciate good aftershave. I apologise in advance but I'm sorry the bottle looks like it's a sex toy from an episode of Star Trek but I'll let them off as I guess the designers were trying to meet a concept design

When the sales lady wanted me to smell Alien Man I actually didn't want to since most of their recommendations falls short of what I'm usually looking for. As we get into fragrances we tend to look for something other than what the normal non-fragrance enthusiast is wearing. On first smell it was an instant love. Alien Man my not be anything daring like the A*Men line, but I would somewhat classify it as a blue fragrance, but before anyone yawns, what makes Alien Man so special to the fragrance enthusiast is that I strikes the perfect balance of being "blue" meaning very versatile, whilst still being unique at the same time. People will enjoy smelling this on you, but they will also know you are wearing something different to the normal guy or gal on the street. Depending on how many sprays you apply, I tend to enjoy this in almost any season. I don't always reach for it, but when I do it amazes me all over again. Longevity and sillage is good and leaves nothing to be wanted. Just adjust your sprays as needed. A good introduction to a Mugler for a newcomer, the journey only gets wilder from here onward. Edit: Why don't I wear this more damn this is GOOD

I love this! First off it's very dark and very spicy. The dark purple color of this bottle resembles the fragrance. This has a part to it that smells alien or extraterrestrial which is awesome! The dry down and on to about an hour or two later is where this smells very pleasant. I get at least 6 hours longevity and that was on skin before reapplying. I assume I will get much longer on clothes. This does not have that signature patchouli note that dominates most Mugler fragrances but it does smell like it's in the Mugler family though. If you're on the fence and unsure about trying this just give it a shot! I was very curious about Alien Man for a long time and then finally bought a 3.4 oz bottle for around $40. It's daring and it's not the usual stuff that is being put out in the mainstream. If you like Mugler men's frags you should already have this one. I'm glad I kept this one on my radar. I think the negativity towards this is because of the opening. The opening is very intense and dark but if you give it a chance it might abduct you and you'll enjoy it! I give this a 89/100.

What a cool fragrance! This is really unique and kind of stands outside of time. It doesn't smell old school, but it has old school qualities. It doesn't smell contemporary either though, as it has some hard edges and defies modern fragrance conventions, at least for designers. Alien Man is a pretty good name, all things considered, since it is coming out of nowhere. It somehow works though. It's spicy and fresh and green, kind of like a green arc of electricity. The herbal notes at the top have a notable camphor quality that is very expansive and lightens up the green and sweet qualities. The pepper is also on the airy side, so the effect is a spicy, camphoraceous aspect floating above green vegetation with a background of sweetness. The top notes subside a bit but hang in much longer than other fragrances. This odd but pleasing scent comes across unisex by today's standards. There are no strong floral or animalic aspects to pull it much one way or another. The woody aspect (cashmeran) grows toward the end, which o still find unisex, though could lean a bit masculine for some.

I had to try Alien Man three times before I decided I wanted to have it in my collection. Three tests determined that I would continue a relationship with this smoky, slightly dark and moderately spicy stranger. Disregarding the negative criticism was quite helpful too, once I realized most if not all of the criticism came from a place of personal expectation. Unlike so many of the haters, I had no expectations of what Alien Man would or should be, so I was not at all disappointed. Rather I was more excited that men were finally getting another Mugler! And here he is, this Alien man. He is quietly unusual and didn't make a definite impression on the first meeting. The second time we met he opened up a little more, but there was still some trepidation and hesitation. The third time, he let his guard down and his (subdued) freak flag flew! Is it coincidence there was a magnificent thunder storm that night? I will reach for him when it's gloomy and cool, and any evening or night time occasion where the same old thing just won't do. He is most welcome in my life.

Thought it was kind of harsh at first, and cloying, despite having that sweet quality to it that I tend to gravitate towards in fragrances. It felt abrasive though, initially, so I wrote this one off but kept the sample around. Tried it again a few months later and it clicked for me a little better. Alien Man is an intriguing blend of notes that invokes the 90s and that dill note is wonderful and really stands out. I can catch it in the opening and the dry down, buried in a smoky haze of sweet elements. Dill isn't something I would imagine getting behind, but it gives the scent a sharpness. After wearing it again, I'm starting to dig Alien Man a little more. Despite the newfound appreciation, it ends up back in the dresser for a few more months. Pulled it out again on a whim to spray for the evening and now I'm all about it. I guess it takes a while to grow on you, but it's really quite nice. I will be getting a bottle at my earliest convenience - I can see it being a good scent for any occasion during the colder months. Good performance and projection, too.

At first spray, I was kind of turned off to this. The dill and the anise were very up front and center (not two of my favorite scents in a fragrance to wear).... I sprayed it on my hand to test, and went about my shopping. I ended up buying 2 other fragrances in the store and left the mall to go home. On the car ride home, I kept getting wafts of something when I was turning the steering wheel, and I finally realized it was the hand where I had sprayed this. So, I smelled it a bit closer, and it had dried down to a very nice, spicy, ambery scent that I was intrigued by. The dill and Anise linger far far far in the background during the drydown, but are there to just add this edge of mystery behind the amber, leather, beech, and pepper. I do not like this scent for the first 30 minutes after I spray it... But after 30 minutes of it drying down, it becomes a scent that I seek out to smell, and feel intrigued by... I also get complimented by this fragrance when I wear it out. I will continue to wear it.

Another example of how people are so influenced by advertising as so many reviews here mention how weird and alien it smells, but in reality it is a very nice masculine with almost sporty vibes and a fairly 90s feel. I enjoy it a great deal and don’t find anything unusual about it- unless you’re only comparing it to ultra modern fragrances. I find a decent similarity to RL Polo Sport, of all things, but without the kelp, and maybe some Tommy Boy or Boss from the same era thrown in. I don't sense the dill or anise alone but feel their part of the whole framing and amplification of the mint, allowing it to last a quite long time and still be noticeable. I rarely encounter people at work noticing my fragrances, but someone stopped me today just to ask what I had on and tell me they really liked it, for whatever thats worth. All around great minty masculine with a 90s retro feel in my opinion, perhaps only alien to those unfamiliar with that era.

This is the best modern green aromatic fougure it has all the classic components of a aromatic fougure.However it has a modern twist with the cashmeran in combination with the leather smoothening the composition.The vanilla in the base adds to this velvety smoothness and gives a touch of appealing sweetness. This is like a modernised Azzaro Pour Homme with brilliant performance. If you like classic mens perfumery but updated with a twist you must buy this.This is truly a stand alone fragrance amongst designers and as far as it smelling unorthodox yes it does. However this is in a good way I've had many people from work complement me on this and due to its distinctiveness/versatility it can be a signature all season scent. I would give this for a modern mens release for the unique DNA in combination with the mainstream palette sensibility a 10/10.Its fresh with depth its clean yet warm it is imo a perfectly balanced fragrance.
