A*MEN LINE BUYERS GUIDE! At the second half of this message, first my personal review. First off I am speaking about a bottle I have bought from ebay that is confirmed to be from before 2010. This stuff is beastly. I sprayed some on my hoodie close to around 11pm and I tossed it on my office chair and up until I went to sleep at 4am I was getting whiffs of this while on my bed the whole time. When I woke up the next morning to take a shi* I put on the same shirt I had under the hoodie and I still smelled a*men clearly even on the shirt! because a little spritz went on the collar of the shirt when spraying on my hoodie the night before. Not only does the scent smell amazing and is the best take on a fresh gourmand ever, but it also lasts forever, likewise some of its flankers but you have to know what you're looking for. Colognes are simply not made how they used to be, because you can argue that edp is stronger than edt because of a higher oil concentration but that is false. The only driver to a colognes strength is the chemicals used before the IFRA banned them. Even with the current markets leading powerhouses like amouage interlude man being a strong stinky oud, this Thierry Mugler EDT blows it out the water regardless. Without a doubt the a*men line is some of the strongest best smelling stuff I have come across but now lets start with the buyers guide (may not be 100% accurate, this is my experience). -First off the original a*men has been reformulated the hardest so when buying a bottle of this whether its the rubber bottle or the silver flacon encapsulating the bottle (make sure the seller didn't put the silver flacon over a more recent weaker clear glass refill bottle I have seen it before and ill get to this point later) make sure the bottom of the bottle says "Thierry Mugler" in cursive on a SLANT. It cannot say "Thierry Mugler" in cursive but the bottom of the text following on a straight line, It must be SLANTED SIDEWAYS, critical. And it especially cannot say just "MUGLER" in bold text ever for anything. Don't buy the weak stuff! However for the flankers like pure malt, it could say "Thierry Mugler" in cursive but the text be on a straight line and still be the strong stuff because remember what I said about original a*men being hit the hardest. It just needs to align with this next step for the flankers. -Second point is where the bottle states it was manufactured for. In my experience it only ever said two things, "mfd for thierry mugler parfums" or "mfd for cfg" and then etc. When it says the second thing, that is the weak stuff! So a flanker may not have the slanted logo on the bottom and its on a straight line instead, but it must follow this second point and you're good. -Third point is if your bottle is the strong stuff it'll say "AngelMEN" instead of "A*MEN" (this point only pertains to original a*men strength not flankers) on the bottom, however I found this to be the least important point because I bought a clear glass refill bottle for the silver flacon and it ended up being weak anyway with all the previous parameters checking out, I believe it was just improperly stored over all the years. Those refill bottles on their own have an ugly presentation anyway, I would recommend to avoid them. Also important to point out that the clear glass refill bottle has its own sprayer and was made to fit inside the silver flacon case, but people on ebay sell it separately. -Last thing to point out is that batch codes really don't matter when it comes to these fragrances because they're reused by the company every 10 years. So something can be either from 2025, 2015, or 2005 so you must know the other signs. Spend the money on the strong stuff, don't buy any of the new recent mugler flankers either (stellar, fantasm, or the most recent a*men for that matter) and I hope you are able to lay your nose on one of the true Thierry Mugler masterpieces!

In December of 2019 I was gifted a 100ML glass refill-style bottle of Amen by Mugler. Prior to this, I had experienced Pure Havane by Mugler and quickly fell in love with the gourmand style honeyed-cherry-tobacco notes of that fragrance. Pure Havane was my first experience with ‘gourmand’ fragrances and it really opened up so many new possibilities for me! I vaguely remember the unboxing and initial spraying and testing of Amen back in 2019, and recall shelving it, with the promise of returning to it later to properly test it, experience it, and discern it. Fast-Forward to Today, June 1, 2025. I had all but forgotten about this re-discovered gem when I saw it sitting on the back row of the shelf I had placed it on back in December of 2019, and what a re-discovery it was, indeed! So, now on to the actual fragrance itself: Upon initial spraying, the atomizer was generous and even. I was greeted with a very sweet, somewhat tarry and gourmand “sugar-carmel-honey-vanilla” straight away, which was quite nice! All of those notes blended very very well to make a seamless accord in the opening of the application. Very much in the same vein as the experience I had with Pure Havne on the opening. Very close behind, the Patchouli, (in the mint family) really rounding out all of the best qualities of the sweetness by not letting it get TOO sweet....and smoothing the entire composition very well. It is not the typical ‘head shop oil” patchouli one may have concerns over, but more of an absolute or CO2 extraction of raw material -imparting only the best qualities of the note into the fragrance. Almost minty, but I can discern it is Patchouli. Very very nice, and lends itself perfectly to the composition! The longer it sat on my wrist and developed, the more notes came out to debut themselves as present in this (Per Fragrantica) composition of 10 Main Accords. Somewhere, but right between the ‘carmel-honey-sugar-vanilla’ accord and the ‘Patchouli-minty” accord...lies the ‘freshy’ accord of a very soft Lavender and Lilly that balances the previous other two very very well as it effervesces off of your skin!! It is fleeting and you will miss it after the first 30 minutes unless you are nose-to-wrist! When the dry down finally does occur, it is thick, tarry and resinous, which I love...because that means it’s going to stick around for quite a while...and it does not disappoint!! The “Amber-Sandalwood-Tonka-Benzoin-Musk” Accord as a fixative/base is thick and resinous and adheres to the skin very well, to ensure a long-lasting experience. Overall, I am thrilled that I was able to stumble upon this recent re-discovery and have the time now to pay this Quintessential Mugler Flagship Must-Have its proper due! I will be keeping it in my rotation for the entirety of this summer season and will enjoy letting it smolder in the hot summer sun when I apply it after crawling out of the pool and drying off before relaxing on the Patio. The Verdict: MASTERPIECE

**EDITED - READ THE UPDATE** Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 197 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased January 2022 Had first tested it with a decant spray in September 2019, but I can't remember what I thought of it and what it precisely smelt like it, but here I am with a 93% full second hand bottle because why pay for this brand new at full price. Really isn't all that special it's purported to be. Accidentally sprayed it on a hard surface and it stank the room for several days, just pungent shit when it's not on you. Unsure what batch it is because the stupid fucking rubber sleeve bottle doesn't tell me. Since I've been more curious about Pure Havane after paying twice for the mediocre experience with Angel Men I'll also be going for Insurrection II Wild. Yes I had Animale long before testing Angel Men and I didn't keep that because there's some stink in the sweetness that doesn't go away and ultimately didn't suit my purposes. Everybody likes a sweet scent but I have limitations and boundaries. It never leaves your clothes so be careful where it's sprayed. 1 Week Update: Although I've had this for almost 3 years, it is now starting to smell proper. I can sense the patchouli and somewhat baby powderness that results from that note particularly on my wrist, and therefore this beats the hell outta Le Male which is almost pure baby powder. I'll be keeping this, clicked the love button for the first time. Finally, the sweetness I can sense wears away after half an hour and the earthy/rootsy smell comes out which almost reminds me of Aramis Havana. It's quite an EDP in performance but I can just about overspray it as it's also quite a manly frag. Turned out to not be insanely sweet like I had initially perceived. I ended up re-applying it twice that day, I almost never do that with any fragrance. 2025 Update: Beneath my bottle it says Mugler in a capitals font, and I think I've said there's no batch code anywhere (didn't receive the original box with it), though smells 10 times better than Animale and surely my decant. Why else did I buy a real bottle? The decant at the time must have made it worth it to me, that's the only reason I would've done that and the fact that Animale had a note that simply cloyed hard. Was a while ago. But with sheer logic the facts sing the song that Angel Men is a bloody misunderstood fragrance and there's much more to it than just sweetness. It's practically a reinvented style of powerhouse.

NO: A*Men is not for everyone. Since its release it has been one of the most polarizing men's fragrance on the market. The critics (and the rude commenters) will tell you it’s too much. They complain about the infamous tar note or claim it’s a suffocating winter beast that should only be worn in sub-zero temperatures. They are missing the point. While the masses relegate this to a clubbing or winter coat scent, I disagree. A*Men is a mood lifter. To me, this isn’t a dark, heavy brooding monster. It's a light mood fragrance. It's dopamine in a bottle. It reminds me of skipping class in college to hang out with friends (I wore this a LOT back then). YES, it works as a sunny scent. Look at the composition! The opening isn't just tar. It’s a bright peppermint and lavender. If you have the confidence to wear it, that minty opening is incredibly cooling and refreshing. The dry down is gorgeous. The caramel, vanilla, and coffee notes don't feel heavy. They feel kinetic, like Saturday morning coffee and sweets. It is purely optimistic. I need not even mention the longevity, sillage or projection. This is a BEAST, and I love him. If a scent had hot biceps, this would be the one. Ignore the haters. The people who are rude about A*Men usually lack the patience for the dry down or the confidence to wear something that announces its presence. This is a bold choice but for those of us who love powerful fragrances, it is the ultimate companion for a bright, high-energy day. Wear it with a smile and a middle finger up, and let the others complain while you enjoy it.

This is my most complimented fragrance ever. and also my first true gourmand. Back in college, I got a lot of positive feedback when I wore it, especially from my female classmates. It’s creamy, sweet, masculine, and absolutely delicious. The opening starts with a sharp mix of lavender, mint, and bergamot. Thankfully, I don’t get any tar like note in the opening that some people mention. It’s fresh, aromatic, and slightly sharp at first, but in a good way. As it settles, it becomes caramel-like, fruity, and honeyed. This stage reminds me of a traditional dessert, something made with sugar, vanilla, and bits of fruit. Warm, sticky sweetness mixed with aromatic softness. The drydown turns into a chocolaty vanilla sweetness with a dark edge, supported by patchouli in the background. And honestly, it smells like a delicious chocolaty cake, warm, rich, and mouth-watering. I still have no idea why chocolate isn’t listed in the note breakdown. Maybe the coffee note is what I’m reading as chocolate, but on my skin it’s pure creamy cocoa.. The performance is insane. Longevity is basically eternal. it lasts forever on clothes — and the projection is so strong it can easily fill an entire house. If you want something noticeable, this is it. This fragrance is perfect for cold weather. Cloudy days, rainy days, snowy winters — that’s where it shines. The sweetness becomes cozy and comforting instead of overwhelming.

Hey Fragrantica fam, Just gotta say, I'm obsessed with A*MEN. I was originally checking out Mugler 'cause my ex was into Alien, but A*MEN totally changed my world. It's become my thing, you know? I've got over ten bottles now, plus all the matching shower gels, lotions, the whole shebang – I'm fully in the A*MEN universe. I remember almost buying Animale Animale for Men, but couldn't find it anywhere (checked six stores!), so I found A*MEN instead, and it's just the best for me. This frag is like stepping into a movie – a super cool, futuristic noir. It's the kind of scent an anti-hero would wear: confident, a little wild, but in control. At first, you get this amazing, strong coffee and patchouli, super noticeable. Then it turns into this yummy, dark chocolate, all sophisticated and edgy, like soft cashmere with a leather jacket. And there's always that cool, metallic thing that Mugler does – it's perfect. This scent isn't subtle – it's a statement. It reminds me of a really strong cup of coffee: dark, powerful, and you won't forget it. A*MEN is iconic, and I don't need anyone else to tell me how good it is. It and the Pure Malt version take me back to those crazy warehouse parties from 1996 - wild and unforgettable.

Another of my extreme nostalgia scents. Not sure if you are interested in hearing this, but i first knew this in the winter of 2021. I don't know if you noticed, but at least in my city, the climate was much colder and rougher during the pandemic, i guess because the contamination and global warming were temporarily stopped because of the absence of activities and factory fume production during COVID. That winter was extremely cold, and i remember wearing A*Men to a few walks i did back in the day to a part of my city i like a lot, Sierra de Alica in Zacatecas, Mexico. Anyway, A*Men on me opens with a synthetic blast similar to bathroom cleaners or stuff. Then settles down into all of the gourmand nuances, chocolatey patchouli, coffee, woods, amber, honey, lactonics (Which are coconut aldehyde and sandalwood, as i recall?) caramel and a ton of stuff, overall. I personally really like it because of the memories it brings, but i think it's the opposite of versatile, since it can be worn ideally in extreme cold and no other time, that beside the fact that i don't really wear it since i prefer other frags for my personal wear. Nontheless, a lovely perfume.

Read the waiver carefully before you sign it. Respect it and it will respect you. Drydown’s the goal. Needs some heat to get rid of the sharp top; there to warn the inexperienced. Late summer nights and fall for me. I actually don’t like wearing this when it’s too cold as the top notes tend to overstay their welcome. It really does smell best on skin not clothes. Respraying doesn’t end well for me, ends up perpetually soapy smelling for some reason. But once you learn how to handle the beast, you’ll be forever seduced into a nostalgia fueled fantasy of masculine indulgence. The drydown transports me to the county fair: chocolate drizzled funnel cakes and burnout rubber. A juxtaposition of carnival fantasy with excessively loud pull trucks rolling coal. Stuffing your face with all different sweets and riding spinny rides until you can’t bear it any longer. It’s not for everyone. If you can’t handle the ride and the noise, you’re gonna leave feeling nauseous with a migraine. But if you’re the kind of person that thrives in the thrill, the excess, you’ll love it—you won’t be able to get enough of it. Just know what you’re getting yourself into.

(sample only) Sample from early 2024. I struggle with this fragrance, I think I could like it - but I know gourmands are not things that work for me. A-Men always dried down really funky on me - so those with more cumin-y / spicy skin may not agree with the fragrance like me. It is really a shame because... I bloody adore the opening - I love what A-men is giving me. It's rich, layered, unique and I never really know what note my nose picks up with every whiff. On top, out the bottle I definitely smell a coriander and lavender forward note (divine btw), overlayed with general peppery-ness - it is a weird combination that I've never smelt, I don't even know if I'm picking those notes out right! It feels sharp on opening but as it breathes, it opens to succulent... milkiness - it's sweet, it sings but yet the coriander and lavender lingers just enough to keep depth. On full dry down, it's more mellow and dark - almost like a vanilla macchiato. Again, a beautiful fragrance that so many will love but... annoyingly may never work for me (though, I'm sure I'll try again). 8/10 I guess, I want to give it more though.

last wrote about this frag in 2015, complaining about how badly nuked Amen has gotten since the 00's...lol. Since then, I've had some kind of Amen laying around, even if not used in a long time. I think my last bottle was a 2019 batch, which I bought in 2023, and 100ml lasted around 2 years. Finally, the bottle ran out last week, and I bought a new bottle, which was the 2023 batch - Comparing the end of the 19 bottle to the first pump of the 23 bottle, the opening smells much more like back in the late 00's big tar note, really gourmand, then quickly goes into the mint and chocolate notes, whereas the 2019 batch was very minty straight away and the tar note gets introduced in the dry down. quite strange how it changed, but still a great scent, not beast mode anymore or for the last 15 years or so, but maybe that's a good thing, as it's more wearable these days, Amen will always be nostalgic and will always have a place on my shelf

(pre 2014 Steel Flask with refill review) Amazing gourmand scent. Reminds me of walking past some bakery that is churning out all sort of fresh baked pastries and sweet breads. The opening will be challenging for a few with an almost tar like note. Once things calm down you are left with a dark sweet caramel/vanilla/honey scent blasted with patchouli. Longevity is great, will easily take you through a 6 hour day. In 2012/13 I bought the steel flask with two refill bottles (pre L'Oreal). I expect to have used it all up in 2026. I have owned/used and absolutely loved A*Men and the entirety of the Pure flankers. For me it was the greatest line to have ever been created. I've had 13+ years of use with A*Men. The Pure line is long discontinued. That alone is enough for me to not buy another bottle. I had my fun and it's time to move on. I also don't want to discover if the L'Oreal reformulation is good or not.

I have great respect for every opinion, but I don't know why people did not consider the autumn option and the day option. I think the opening of the perfume is quite fresh. It gives way to other sweet notes later. Generally, after 1 hour, a fresh and sweet mixed perfume emerges, and this is great for winter and autumn. In my opinion, if you are having winters and autumns where the weather is not very cold, this perfume will be perfect for you. I think if you do not spray this perfume more than 5 sprays, it smells better. Among all my warm spicy perfumes, I follow this rule, otherwise I will suffocate every note in the perfume. It is noticeable and it is truly a masterpiece. I always get compliments whenever I apply it. If you can find it, it is a perfume that I highly recommend. smell:10/10 spread:9/10 overall appreciation:8/10 longevity:9/10 but great performance for a designer

I haven't smelled the original formulation, but I used to have Angel and I can attest that this would be more enjoyable. That said, however, this is fantastic. Essentially perfect. The lavender explodes with the coriander in the opening, producing this heady clean smell. More fresh shower than soap. Not being a fan of hygienic scents, myself, I'm happy that's only prominent for a few moments. As the opening develops, the mint, green notes, and patchouli seem to congeal into a somewhat camphorous smell that's borderline Vaseline (in an entirely pleasant way) when melding with the lavender clean smell. The asphalt note is definitely there. Not so strong, but it's there. Sweet but not too sweet. Funky but not oud-dirty. The cedar, florals, and tonka-nilla musky resin-patchouli base provides a strong skeleton for all the dissonant meat to stick to. I love it.

Back in 2012, one of our VIP guests wore this almost every evening after work before coming to the VIP lounge for a beer. You knew he had arrived before you even saw him. The scent would fill the whole floor. One day I finally asked him what he was wearing. Mugler A*Men. At that time, I couldn't afford a bottle. Now, years later, I finally own one. The current version isn't the beast I remember. The old one projected like crazy. This one sits closer to the skin, but still lasts well. The scent itself is exactly what I fell in love with: fresh lavender at the start, then a sweet, earthy mix of coffee, patchouli and praline that comes across almost nutty to my nose. A*Men wasn't my first fragrance, but it was the fragrance that got me interested in perfumery. Ever since then, I've been chasing that same feeling. I still haven't found anything quite like it.

I used to love it on my husband when he discovered it in early 2000s, but then I started stealing it from him and now it's my scent. I love it more than 'female' Angel; it's bolder and more adventurous. Almost 30 years after its release and it still smells like the future. Absolutely timeless. I get coffee, tobacco (although not listed as a note) and patchouli with some vanilla and caramel sweetness. I think that despite the name it's perfectly unisex. More suited for colder seasons, but I think it can be pulled off on a cooler summer day too, it's not cloying at all. A 10/10 fragrance. As for the performance.... It was nuclear years ago. Two sprays would last literally all day. Sadly, it must have been reformulated a few years back and now it's of moderate longevity. It's fine when you overspray (I do now).I will still buy it, always 💙

This fragrance is really one of a kind, I could only smell the new formula and I can’t compare, but I do think it stays as an amazing perfume, the strongest and most unique from all the ones I smelt that day, so immediately I bought a bottle. It’s a total performance, pure show that it really starts repulsing you when you first spray it, maybe intentional? because then a kind of bugspray stentch quickly turns into a sweet and captivating scent, woody, perfectly balanced and as mysterious as futuristic, staying forever on clothes. I find it really pleasant, and rolled up with a strong sillage. I kept the paper where I firstly tested on and after three weeks it still smelled, the last note there was pure caramel. Although it can be pleasant, it’s not an usual perfume, when you test it, it will test you.

People say this about a lot of fragrances, but this one truly stands out from other designer fragrances, and I have no doubt it was groundbreaking upon release. I can smell the milk! When I first tried this in a different bottle with no label, I thought it was a bold women's fragrance. This could definitely be unisex, but don't be scared of this being too feminine. It's really out of this world. A*Men has a beautiful space-age syntheticness in the opening. It smells blue, but not in the way you think. The blue is an electrifying, futuristic gourmand blue. I have the new formulation. I wish it were stronger, but luckily, these sell affordably on Mercari, so I spray liberally. I usually stick to feminine/unisex, but this is the one cologne that I can never get over. Perfect for any age

I must tell what I really think about it: the original A*men was an outstanding stuff. It was my perfume for a long time! And must say, it was not just a perfume... It was "my sent", a second skin, something that completed me, strong, noticible, different... Perfect. But as they sometimes do, they ruined this, and it became different... Who knows something so well, can easily see the difference, and you feel betrayed... Besides that, for some reason, it's hard to find in stores... Thierry must be very sad with all this, not recognizing this former masterpiece. Didn't had chance to try the new A*men Fantasm, but by what I read, nothing to be made about... Maybe some day they bring it back again.. Or if you can, try to find old vintage boxes( the ones with Thierry Mugler written on).

Well for starters I had this when it first came out in 1996 and I tell you back then they didn't hold back true power house for a Edt. The scent well at the time there was nothing else on the market and the smell was fantastic 👌. I just picked up a new reformulated bottle (2025) and when I first sprayed it onto my skin it slowly brought back memories of the original but in a more modern way not loud and cloying in your face type of of scent like the original but a more finely crafted scent to be wearing still strong and still has the dna with the same smell 😀. This is definitely worth picking up if you want to get away from the same boring scents in the market now (2026). 10/10 in my book back then and now today.

My journey into fragrances started just this year so I was checking out many classics that are still available. A*Men is one of them and Douglas/Sephora hides it in the darkest of its aisles, for whatever reason. Maybe it's because upon first smelling it, knowing nothing about it, it catches you completely off guard. "Wth is this garbage??" I thought. Silly me, I just didn't know what to expect. I came back to it because there was something intriguing about its strong similarity to Angel, which reminds me of my mother. Now it's one of my favorites, but you got to be comfortable with patchouli and thick honey. I can only judge the current formulation, but I'm glad you can still get it today.

Nose Note #619 I confirm that Intoxicated is a dupe of this. So so similar. This is also soapy, has realistic coffee with caramel. People say this is a famous patchouli fragrance, but I'm not getting much patchouli. Maybe the soapy feeling is coming from patchouli, I don't know. But what a unique and interesting, strong scent... This is definitely not a crowdpleaser, do not blind buy this. It takes some time to get used to it. But what a wonderful performer. It's not "eternal", but it's very long lasting. Expect it to be dark, coffee-like, rather sweet, somewhat earthy and somewhat old school. And very strong. 8/10, does not smell like intoxication though

It changes every 5 minutes during the first half hour, and it's lovely during that time! If the bottle wasn't sprayed for a couple of months, it then settles on a somewhat "old female teacher", really ugly kind of scent. When that happens, nihilistgodzillas' review is SPOT ON! If instead you clear out the straw with a couple of sprays in the air before applying, it settles instead on a powdery and somewhat dark, masculine vanilla. Lovely and intriguing! In any case: 0 coffee, 0 chocolate, maybe a hint of toffee Perfect for clubs, to smell different from anybody else, 6 sprays and it'll last you the whole evening and the morning after

This one is a banger!! It smells so complex, after maceration it has a strong start, very fruity-citrusy and it dries down to a chocolaty-earthy patchoulli with milk and a hint of caramel, this gives it a pleasent masculine smell, not too harsh, not too strong, just right, this fragrance is perfection for me. The performances are also really good, it is there for the whole day, 12h+, with a very good projection, i can feel it in the air even after 12h. The rubber flask is design is kinda neat, i'm digging it, gives a playful feel to it. The price is really good for this one, and it really did stood the test of time. 10/10 for me.

As a "die hard" A*Men fan, I have to admit—the latest formulation is a disappointment (just got my new bottle). While the DNA remains recognizable, it lacks the bold character that made the original so iconic. Gone is the beastly performance that once defined A*Men. The signature tar note, which added so much depth and uniqueness, has been toned down or removed entirely—a major loss for fans of the original. Longevity, once a strong suit, is now merely average, and the scent feels less complex and intense. *as a plus I can add that I`m happy it is still available and it might be easier to wear in public, it`s not that offensive.

A Men fragrance is the reason why I started to like complex fragrances, it's a creative timeless scent! I remember when I first tried this maybe 20 years ago I thought the opening was weird and off putting so I overlooked it immediately because I was only used to light fresh fragrances so I didn't buy it, But after 4 hours I started to get this amazing whiffs and I couldn't stop smelling my hand! it was the earthy patchouli mixed with amber and the aromatic notes so I came back the next day and bought it and since then the addiction never stopped.

This. This fragrance. This juice. This fucking masterpiece. It smells like Wilt Chamberlain's dick. It smells like Mr. T's gold chains. It smells like the 1977 Annual pimp convention. It smells like Liberace's fingers. It smells like the exhaust of a Rolls Royce Corniche. As a white, 35 year old married man with a 2 year old son, this fragrance is forbidden for me to wear in public. But sometimes...when the wife is at work, and the kid is asleep, I'll play my old Dolemite VHS, spray this juice on and drift away in to Badass Motherfuckerville.

So I just blind bought this and it honestly didn’t disappoint. For me I wanted something strong, masculine, and a scent that somewhat resembled the Angel DNA. At first smell I didn’t smell the “tar” note people keep saying this smells like. I think I could kinda see what yall are saying about it smelling tar like but it wasn’t as exaggerated as yall say it is. Regardless I love every part of the fragrance. The dry down kinda gives me a powdery chocolate/caramel tonka vibe. I think the powdery smell is from the patchouli. Overall: 9/10

Just picked up a sealed bottle on Vinted for £40 — 2015 batch — from a guy who inherited it from his grandfather (RIP to the man, he clearly had great taste). And honestly... it’s nothing like the new formula. Super rich, super strong, properly masculine. Warm and cold at the same time. This used to be my signature scent before L’Oréal messed with it and gave us the new version. That coffee–sugar–patchouli combo hits so much harder. If you ever see the blue box with the full “Thierry Mugler” name (not just “Mugler”), grab it.

Smells like christmas time to me. May be from the cinnamon or the caramel but it really does. In the opening its this warm spicy notes and in the official notes patchouli is a base note but I can smell it in the opening. After a while you get this cozy caramel and still some spices. Base notes are mainly vanilla and tonka bean but I can still smell spicy caramel and also some patchouli as well. Longevity and projection is good with nice silage. I think its still a decent pick up at 2025.

Even though I was a baby when this came out, it was so massive that I spotted it a little after the beginning of my fragrance journey. Still have my first bottle of the superhero-influenced A*Men. This year I was introduced to most of the flankers, luckily I was able to get a lot of them in a short time. The A*Men series became my favorite in a matter of months. Even though Ultimate and Fantasm are not like the old releases they still have that DNA. 10/10 -Fragrance Hall of Fame

I adore this fragrance, i adored previous iterations named Thierry Mugler, not Mugler. This used to be a bomb, now it evaporates so quickly. The whole A*Men line has been discontinued while simultaneously releasing endless Angel and Alien flankers that even fans of those do not care for. What is the direction at L’oréal?, like what the hell are they doing!. Redesign that amazing line, release them in EDP or parfum and bring back all the good ones you took away. Fix up L’oréal.

Simply the king of gourmands. Guys hate it off me, girls want to eat me. What do I care what the guys think, let them wear their soft core scents, I'm coming to see and conquer with Amen at my side. Starts off with a wallop and never seems to let up, even my clothes reek of it after a wash. Compliment factor is out of this stratosphere. Tar,rubber,mint,coffee,vanilla and herbs. I am Amen hear me Roar. 15 years later and it still knocks it out of the ballpark with me.

I bought this ages ago for my son, and that poor bottle sat there, gathering dust like it was in hiding. So, naturally, before rehoming it, I figured I'd give it a spray—y'know, just to be sure. I mean, I do love a good Angel scent and its many cousins. Well, blow me down with a feather! I did NOT see this coming. This stuff is insanely good... on me! Yep, female here, BTW. Guess my son’s loss is my (deliciously scented) gain! Wear what you want. No labels needed.

This was the first perfume I ever owned — and purely by chance. It was originally gifted to my dad, but he didn’t like it, so he gave it to me when I was 14. I’ve always had a bottle of it ever since. Honestly, I was shocked when I joined fragcom and found out how divisive this fragrance is. I always seemed to get great compliments from the people around me. As for the scent itself — it smells like nothing else. Words fall short.

One of the most complex fragrances I've ever smelled. It feels like I notice new accords everytime I wear it. Not for everyone, that's for sure. But it's my favorite fragrance ever. It's deliciously strange and it's magical how it changes going through its stages. Pure Havane is perfect too, and much less challenging to wear. I'm a fan of both, and can't wait to try A*Men fantasm, but the original is at the top for me.

Yeah this one is kind of all over the place, I definitely get spices, Tonka vanilla, I tiny hint of powder. When first sprayed it has a scent in there that actually kind of stinks, like a sweaty sour smell but after a few minutes it's gone. Mostly very spicy but sweet as well, not a dry spice. It's a little green as well. To me it fits my age, 51 but could easily be a good winter fragrance for someone younger as well.

So if you bought this scent and found it incredible and loved it.. You are probably a Leo. You have a nature that does not owe anything to anyone. People around you always think you are different. Yes, I think you are different! those who smell this scent do not buy it to attract attention, they like it.. they want to smell it constantly. some women cannot help but approach you, they draw them into your skin..

there is a LOT going on in this fragrance, and i love it. all the notes kind of dance around this strong, dark, chocolate patchouli coffee smell in such a great way. the mint and lavender really show off in giving it a sort of barbershop-ish vibe to my nose, and i just love the stuff. perfect for the winter, but would definitely give me a headache in anything warmer than that. still love this stuff.

I have to be honest when I first smelled this I was not a fan. Especially on a paper strip. Then the dry down happened and I loved it. I loved everything about this scent. This is my go to for fall winter and spring. I have like 5 bottles stored up now. Sad it only has a 4.02 because I do get compliments wearing this out more so than a lot of my other frags.

an aphrodisiac! introduces itself similar to Burberry Men, but with a good hit of coffee/dark chocolate as well. on the skin it dries down a bit lactonic musky but on textiles the patchouli+coffee are louder . a mainstay for winter . been wanting this for years now update: a woman dug her face in my sweater to smell this, if u still were considering

This is in my top 5 of all time. Love the Caramel, Chocolate, Coffee,Patchouli combination. Especially that "tar"note. To get the vintage, make sure Thierry Mugler full name is on the bottle. Not just Mugler. Very important. A close 85% dupe of this would be Dua Brand Angelic Man. Slightly brighter than this one. But it's the closest dupe I know of.

I've been wearing this super often since I got it. Manages to smell manly but also like a starbucks frappe. Addictingly sweet w the caramel and lavender, but with that coffee note it adds so much to diversify what ur smelling, I wouldn't say this is versitile like at all, this stuff is built for a cozy winter night, but omg does it rock

Some reviews are funny. Like why the heck are you buying a Mugler fragrance from 1996 expecting it to smell like an arab gourmand?? A*men is not the kind of scent made to please everyone and the reviews make it clear. If you blind buy it expecting it to be safe... Joke's on you. Stick to the mass appealing scents and you'll be fine...

It smells like a combo of balsamic cherry cola with that classic Amen coffee gourmand DNA and patchouli for masculinity. A mass appealing balsamic resin fragrance, if Church was conducted by a French designer. Whether its better than the original pre L’Oreal days or has the longevity of the original, probably not, but still good.

The great fragrances are memorable, impactful, and often polarizing. They don’t allowed you to sit the fence. Either way, you won’t forget them. They won’t blend in to the background. I love the original A*Men- still extremely wearable and distinctive after almost 30 years! What an icon in the fragranceverse! A true masterpiece

I loved this scent when I was 16 and I love it now at 31. This will always be my favorite and the best gourmand men's fragrance ever made. The complexity here, while still retaining a scent profile that is able to be distinct and well rounded is unmatched in my opinion. An unforgettable smell. Whether you like it or not.

Bold and unapologetic is what I think of the original A*Men. I should have purchased two or three of the 3.4 ounce bottles, at $40, when Lord and Taylor was liquidating its inventory. It takes a self assured person to wear this one. The female packaged and the male packaged A*Men and Angel smell alike, to me.

Awesome scent, gets me lots of compliments. I havent smelt the original, but the newer reformulaion that I have (just says MUGLER on the box) lasts decently long on skin, I'd say at least 9 hours. Siliage is good for around ~4 hours, but you can still smell it past that. Impressive performance for an EDT.

A beautiful blend, that creates a gourmand that isn't the typical bubblegum or charamel frappe, mass appealing stuff, but a refined, elegant, suit and tie gourmand with pachouli at its core. A*Men, D&G Devotion PH, and the original Givenchy 1974 Gentleman made me realise that pachouli just works for me.
