Fantasquatic

So, I bought this at Jomashop and I'm not usually into watery fresh scents. (This was a blind buy.) But really love this MUGLER creation. This one is really complex and seriously long lasting. It's starts out with sharp, watery, marine notes, mixed with citrusy freshness..Very bracing, crisp and a bit biting. Refreshing.. But as time goes on, it mellows into this really lovely aguafloral, while still retaining it's watery nature..it smells like the colour aquamarine.. and it lasts. Hour 5 and I can still smell it on my skin and clothes, which I find amazing, as most watery citrus perfumes fade rather quickly. I layered it over a lime scented lotion I purchased from Beyond Scents, which I HIGHLY recommend. I have an entire wardrobe of Beyond Scents lotions and butters to pair with my frags.. lime works great with this one. I also think this fragrance is truly unisex... would love to smell this on a guy. It lasts longer than Replica's Sailing Day and not as abrasive. I would definitely recommend, if you like fresh scents. Even though I'm not that into them, I think this one is a winner. It might not be worth paying full price, but worth it, for the price I paid at Jomashop.

There are only a few fragrances that are like coke to a dog's nose. And this is one of them. Smelling it is extremely addictive. It's one of the most (if not the best) well-rounded aquatics that I've smelled. It's such a pity that it was discontinued. I love it so much that I'm about to buy one of the remaining bottles off ebay for double the original price, from a doubtful source. Please Mugler bring this one back!

I like fragrances that I can smell while wearing them. Fantasquatic is fleeting, and you might forget that you applied it after a short while. It's there, and reminders will occasionally waft from yonder, but it's quite anodyne and even doux. Yet when you inhale its full corpus, right after spritzing, there is salt...a somewhat sweet salt...and oil, like the oil of sea life - kelp, whales, diatoms - and it's all blown through driftwood, across wripples of sand, in full, midday sun. The idea is nascent and not fully formed, leaving a slighly synthetic or artificial impression, but it's sufficient to conjure your brackish fantasy - an ephemeral one, mirage-like, and you'll be left wanting more, wanting to recast the play, play it again, hoping for more depth or something new. The periodic reminders you'll catch hours later will evoke nostalgia over how it was, and not how it is.

Thankfully I bought a tester at Jomashop for $56. A cucumber, aquatic scent with slight powderiness in the background. Pleasant and safe to wear on a daily basis. A reviewer here stated that it reminds them of the cucumber dove soap and I can totally see that here. Unisex leaning slightly feminine. Performs intimate staying close to the skin. Not worth full retail price when you can get a similar scent profile for less with better performance. I forgot to mention that this is in the same cucumber, aquatic scent profile as Nautica Voyage. I'm not saying it's a dupe or clone but it falls in that same realm of familiarity.

It isn’t the aquatic that I was expecting. Surprisingly powdery.The cardamom and coriander are prominent. The citrus notes appear for a flash of a moment. The ‘sea note’ is there but very subtle. At first, it feels like a smoothie of random ingredients, a bit messy and confusing. But after 10-15 min it settles into a calm, fresh, green fragrance. It never projects like a monster, not even upon application. Longevity is about 6-8 hours. Could easily be a creation of Francis Kurdkjian in the same category as the squeaky clean perfumes like Aqua Universalis, Aqua Celestia, etc.
