Mugler Cologne Run Free

A touch of light ginger and woods on the same white musk base as Mugler Cologne. The neroli and soapiness in the original are absent here. Run Free (Violet) is a distinctly new fragrance but has a similar vibe as the original. This sits very close to the skin and, like Mugler Cologne, would be perfectly suitable for warm or hot weather. Definitely unisex, although some may find that it leans toward the masculine because of the woodiness. Violet is my 2nd favorite of the new Mugler Rainbow collection, only behind Love You All (Blue).

One of the best ever flowery / citrusy concoctions ever

Theoretically unisex, but there’s a note that reminds me so much of a cologne my dad wore in the 90s - 00s that it’s reading pretty masculine for me. I was aiming for a true unisex to slightly masculine-leaning scent for traveling to work events. This would maybe fit the bill. There’s a powdery sweetness I wasn’t expecting, and less herbal freshness than I’d thought. It’s kind of reminding me of a high end gym’s male locker room (though my dad would spray his cologne after going to the gym, so that might be the connection? And he’s pretty high end). And I know it’s from 2018, but there’s something very 2003 feeling about it as well. Even beyond the note that smells like my dad, it’s a little y2k nostalgic - they must know that, with the bottles looking like those transparent, candy-colored iMacs. It’s interesting (and was a steal from a discounter tbh) and unlike any other scent I have so I’m pretty happy with it. Edit: ended up giving it to my boyfriend after he tried it. It smells so nice on him, woody and spicy and light.

I really like the wood in this. I always love woody notes in fragrances, and I like that this one has a depth to it, but doesn't go too dark. So far my favorite of the Cologne colors, but that being said, I have to say I agree with henri345que. I have been a fangirl of Mugler since the first day I entered the fragrance world. Alien is my first and greatest love. Its flankers are to die for. Angel is incredible, and while its flankers tend to be much tamer than the original, they're still innovative and bold. Aura is a fragrance that doesn't agree with me, but it's still original, daring, unique, and dramatic. It's what draws me to the Mugler brand. But I've tried three of these colognes, and while they're all pleasant, none of them strike me as bold or daring or provocative. It's nice, but it's not what I expected from Mugler.

At first I thought Run Free was the least attractive of all the “colors” in the rainbow collection. My impression was of a cinnamon mint candy. But I let it sit. I waited and then the minty-medicinal note morphed into a wonderful subtle fragrance that becomes more interesting and appealing from the middle to the dry down. It isn’t as happy and bright as the yellow or so purely clean as the blue but Run Free feels like a mature version of all the colognes.

Run Free is Mugler Cologne, only woodier, spicier and more peppery (thanks to akigalawood). Anyone familiar with akigalawood note will instantly recognize it, Run Free is like a flag bearer for it. Overall it is bracingly fresh, zingy, effervescent and surprisingly long lasting, I get easily a full working day out of it, though it doesn't really project much. I'm not sure that purple colour is a proper match, but that's me nitpicking.

I really like this. Its a fresh almost lavender/powder ginger with some woods. To me it leans a but feminine but can definitely be worn by a man. Longevity is ok, about 1 hour of good projection then sits a bit more intimate for the next 5 hours. I find that most of the Mugler colognes smell similar except this one, it does it own thing.

This opens with a classic zingy, sporty fresh citrus and ginger. As it settles, the zingy fresh notes combine with water lily along with a light musk and woody/cashmeran accord. This is a nice, youthful sporty scent that could definitely be unisex. It reminds of a less floral, more zingy Dolce by D&G.

Fresh Neroli, With Akigalawood and Musk. Refreshing, Very unisex. I like it, But don’t reach for it often, So will probably stick with the 10ml bottles. I wish it was actually neon pink like the photo, But IRL it’s lavender colored. lol

A spicy, woody soap. Clean, but interesting enough not to fall into the boring category. It reminds me a bit of dsquared he wood, but less powdery. Overall a great daily driver

Very nice opening (spicy/sharp but short-lived ginger), before quickly morphing into a woody musk. Longevity is on the shorter side, even for an EDT, clocking in at about 2.5 hours before completely disappearing--I can’t call that moderate, even though it goes (barely) past the 2 hour mark--yikes. With that kind of performance, the asking price drops it down from a "like" to an "ok" for me. Not a good ratio of performance vs. price for my purposes.

I would consider this masculine because all I get when I wear it is men's cologne. Scent is great just too harsh for me. I don't think it let Mugler down, when I smell it, I think 'makes sense' it's Mugler.

I blind bought a couple of 10ml travel bottles for cheap, so I gave Run Free a shot. It kind of has a soapy, floral vibe. It's feminine leaning. Only has about 2 maybe 3 hours longevity. In my opinion, not worth buying a bottle.

Run Free is an aromatic woods. The ginger can only be detected for a slight moment in the opening, but it's very bright and vivacious. It would make a great accent for a serious cologne. The main body of the fragrance presents a musky woods. The oversoul is distinctly reminiscent to a Killian—and I would best describe it as something like a dark, musky Bamboo Harmony. If this rainbow set is intended for being blended up, I'd take this one as the most challenging entry, intended for experts especially; hence the name—Run Free. As for blending it up, I could imagine an expert like Nejla saying something like, "Ooh...this is a ginger beer!". Totally undaunted. Some boozy notes, some sugar—and would you like a drink? I would probably think to do something like saffron and fig, running with that vivid purple ginger—and then some other wildman notes‒like pomegranate, blood orange, or maybe even Acai. Haven't sampled them yet, but Safraleine and Hydrocarboresine seem like they could be really interesting materials in place of a natural saffron. Unfortunately, not really seeing much potential for this fragrance as it stands—a little too sour and musky—but you never know with all the weirdos out there.

This has an astringent opening thanks to the ginger, which is definitely attention-grabbing. This then dries down into a dank, woody patchouli-like base of Akigalawood, with hints of rich floral notes somewhat reminiscent of rose to me. The base doesn't have the dirty earthiness of regular patchouli, but do yourself a favour and don't put your nose too close to your skin when sniffing this! I did that and now I have a headache - somehow my nose detects something off-puttingly sour in it when sniffing closely. Probably my least favourite out of the series.

A genderless, bright, refreshing, scent great for the office or non-seductive settings if you don't care for the usual citrus / aqua / green-based offerings. This one piqued my interest every time I caught a whiff. Oddly I don't "love" it but am interested by it again and again. I am seriously considering purchasing again to add diversity to my collection.

This one smells the most feminine of the five I have tried. It’s not really anything more than Avon could offer and does smell like a body spray for teens. It’s nice enough but again, non-performance and not worth the cost.
