Espiritu Pirata

In 2014, the perfumer Nadia Zuodar created the fragrances called Espíritu Pirata (Pirate Spirit), in two versions: one aimed at the male audience and another for the female audience. Both are part of the Ecosystems - Woodland collection and revive the era of spice trading across the seas, sailing with pirates from the Malay Peninsula. The creative concept tries to recreate the explosion of scents in the holds of the ships, a mixture of the sweetness of the rum, spices and the strong smell of the woods of their vessels. In the composition, notes of rum from Martinique, mimosa, blackcurrant, patchouli, Australian precious woods (agarwood, Muhuhu and Massoia), tonka bean, cardamom, cocoa, opoponax, mushrooms, beeswax and indigenous oils (Ximenia and Pequi). Before discussing the evolution of the perfume on the skin, let's go to the theoretical explanations: Muhuhu (Brachyleana Hutchinsii) is also known as African sandalwood and produces a rare oil with balsamic and sweet nuances; Massoia (Cryptocaria Massoia) is an indigenous tree from New Guinea, whose bark has a creamy coconut aroma and is one of the few natural sources of lactones (which are produced synthetically). Its oil can be considered irritating to the skin and therefore the legislation can vary between countries; Ximenia produces an oil that assists in the durability of the fragrance; Pequi is an edible fruit found in Brazil and Paraguay and the perfumer is proud to state that it has the first line of perfumes on the market that introduced such an ingredient, thanks to its tropical fruits essence. What about Espíritu Pirata Man? I start with a "wow, what a scent"! It is an oriental-spicy filled with woody, alcoholic and gourmands nuances during the dry down. When applied, it is mouthwatering. The warm smell of the rum makes the taste buds work, while the sense of smell is intoxicated by the liqueur aspect of the beverage. As time goes by, the fragrance turns out to be drier and rich in creamy woods. However, there is a strong smell similar to honey, which insists on staying above everything, as if it were a topping. And as complex and rich as it is the olfactory pyramid of this fragrance, it is possible to identify a little of each ingredient used: from the honey-like scent of the mimosa to the spicy side of the cardamom; from the bitter heat of cocoa to the nuances of sweet myrrh. Espíritu Pirata Man is not as difficult as it may seem, but particularly, I would not indicate for very hot days. It has a good projection (for about two hours) and excellent durability, especially if we take into account that there is no synthetic ingredient in its formula. The liquid is quite oily (be careful with the clothes) and needs to be lightly stirred to mix the particles that form at the bottom of the juice. I never imagined myself as a pirate, but I confess that for a few moments I let myself be taken into the basement of a ship as if I were living in one of those movies that deal with the subject and make us rethink the history of the seas. No doubt, one more to the list of favorites of this House.

Espiritua Pirata is probably one of the strangest gourmands I’ve ever smelled, but by far one of my all time favorites. It smells very aromatic there’s quite a lot going on in this scent, there’s the gourmand nuances like honey, vanilla, cocoa, and tonka bean, but there are also some floral and spices as well, it’s quite a nose full to decrypt this scent but it’s very beautiful nonetheless. If you read my other reviews on this house I like to talk a lot about the texture of their fragrances, they have quite a unique feel to them and this one is no exception. This also has the thick almost syrupy quality as most the other Nadia Z fragrances, which in this case really brings out the gourmand appeal of the scent, creating a more authentic gourmand experience. Honey doesn’t just smell like honey, it feels like it too. This fragrance was said to be inspired by the spice trade era and the scent is suppose to reminisce the smell of those spices, and I can definitely agree on that. The spices are very exotic smelling, it’s like you’re standing on the port where the spices where delivered, while the breeze carries the aroma of different spices around the air, and as you walk around you contently get whiffs of delicious, exotic spices. It’s simply a very wonderful experience. On to performance this perform quite well, it last a good 8-9 hours off my skin in cold weather, so I do expect that it will last longer in warmer weather. Projection is good for about 1-2 hours before it starts to project more softly. Overall, happy with performance, could be better but this last all day long so I can’t really complain. In conclusion, if you’re into gourmands and spices this is one fragrance that you must get a sample of. I was a unique experience for me, a very phenomenal experience, and I believe it’d be the same for you as well. Thanks for reading! Have a great day guys!

This stuff (like everything by NadiaZ) is very difficult to decipher but let's just say I get an unusual form of woodiness, dried up rum and a carnation/patchouli touch that gives an outdated cologne thing (like Aramis JHS) way in the background. The overall blend has a feeling of 'where have you been' as opposed to 'what are you wearing'. In general, I find it good; no extreme response here.
