Essencial Oud

The Essencial OUD fragrance duo reached the Brazilian market in April 2018, after a few spoilers in social media, which left the most curious for news with eyes wide opened. The visual identity was kept and the bottle came in midnight blue, which received some criticism for not referring immediately to the woody nuances of the main star: OUD. But it is good to emphasize that this color is not uncommon in Arabian perfumery, with bottles that can even bring engraved stones. In my opinion, it was a huge failure of communication with the target audience, taking into account that this is the most premium line of Natura. At first glance, it only transmits nocturnal use, which does not apply to this fragrance (I'll explain ahead). Another thing that bothered me a lot was the lid on the men's bottle. It looks black, but it is bluish-gray and does not convey quality. No matter if they repeated the pattern, it could have a gold finishing, following the color of the metallic spray, besides the model of the Essencial Intenso lid, for example. Essencial OUD Masculino (for Men) has come bringing the concept of luxury – through an ingredient that is no longer novelty, but still retains its status of nobility – and above all, sensuality. It has notes of bergamot, cardamom, and saffron on the top, making room for a warmer body with notes of geranium, cinnamon and praline, on a dense and woody base of OUD, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli and musk. And there's more! To reinforce the durability, notes of the gurjum and cumaru trees were used. With regard to the fragrance, Essencial OUD Masculino is a joy in many ways! In a market that keeps growing, with dozens of perfumes being launched every month and an increasingly demanding consumer, it seems that Natura decided to leave the common place (finally) and invested in a product that has no tropical style and is being consumed worldwide, approaching the style that exists in the Niche Perfumery for some time, but still needs to be discovered by users of the most common mass-market brands. In addition, it brought me the nostalgia of the '80s, when we were waiting for the next releases of the national brands and we did not usually disappoint, quite different from what has been happening since the turn of the millennium. But let's get down to business! On the skin, Essencial OUD Masculino is rich and exhales effectively. It seems that everything was thought to not transmit the smell of “cheap perfume". That being said, in addition to quality, the fragrance is delicious. As soon as I tested on the blotter for the first time, I immediately remembered the smell of Ferrari Essence Oud. And as much as I do not like to make comparisons because I do not want to create this precedent, I received lots of messages from my followers with the famous question: "So, does it smell like other fragrance?" Although the olfactory memory was already directed, I even compared this fragrance with Quartz Addiction, Spicebomb and Polo Supreme Oud, as well as Encounter (because I read that someone else had made a comparison). Then I went a little further and checked if there was anything from Montale Red Aoud, but the fight became ugly...LOL. In the end, there was no escape: Essencial OUD Masculino has great olfactory similarity with Ferrari Essence Oud, except for the main difference between them, which is the amazing rose note of the latter. But do not worry if you do not know any of these quoted scents, because I'll explain to you how Essencial OUD Masculino smells. When it touches the skin, a bath of hot spices, mainly the saffron. Then, as if came on top of the composition, the cinnamon arrives dominating, sweetened by the praline accord. It is the sensation of sweet cinnamon sprinkled on milk foam, as in a special drink made with coffee. Along with it, a soft scent, like a suede accord, anticipates a woody, creamy base, filled with sandalwood and oud. Does it smell medicinal? No. Does it smell like chocolate? No. Regarding OUD's essential oil, known as liquid gold for its high price, the explored facet in here was the woody. What gives an open aspect is the cedar and, above all, the oil of copaiba, with a bit of bitter content. For this reason, unlike what many may think, Essencial OUD Masculino does not need to be worn only at night or in colder days, as I mentioned before. Of course, the performance will be better under these conditions. In fact, its launch at this time of year was providential, as mornings and evenings are colder and the temperature increases during the afternoon, during the Fall. Oh, I must talk about longevity! On my skin, it lasts effortlessly between eight and ten hours. That is, this joint creation between Verônica Kato and Pierre Guéros (specialized perfumer in OUD at Symrise) brought a huge problem for the company: try to do something better in the next releases, which will not be easy.

o baladeiro sedutor mais elegante da perfumaria nacional, infelizmente ele fica na sombra de outros perfumes da linha essencial, mas na minha opinião é o melhor da linha inteira. fiquei com medo de comprar e ele ter aquela pegada meio oriental ( tive esse medo pela nota de oud e açafrão ), aqueles perfumes bem especiados como amber safron da oboticario, eu simplesmente odeio..mas nao é o que tem nessa fragrância. ele abre bem doce, com uma canela muito bombástica junto do praline que deixe esse dulçor ainda mais quente. na secagem o oud aparece e nao se sobressai, ele se junta com o doce e vira essa bomba..vira um doce amadeirado com as duas notas mais pesadas desses acordes. use em climas bem frios e de preferência em lugares mais abertos ou muito climatizados mesmo, se usado de forma errada esse perfume desanda e muito..lembrando que é uma bomba tanto de fixação quanto de projeção. eu comprei no blind e nao me arrependo mas nao recomendo, ele é desafiador, precisa de bastante personalidade para usa-lo..mas nao se assuste com essa pirâmide olfativa gigantesca, apenas a canela, praline e oud sao devidamente sentidos nessa fragrância. amo a elegância que o perfume tras mesmo sendo bem bombástico e baladeiro..recomendo demais que voce experimente.

This is actually fantastic. The scent profile itself is nothing necessarily out of the ordinary - it's definitely a Western oud a la Haltane, Oud For Greatness, Oud Noir, etc. But the blending in the scent is superb. The oud is tempered well by the spices and by the warm ambery base into an extremely appealing, night out, date night sort of scent with just a little bit of an edge. I was very suprised by the quality; compared to Natura's fellow national brand, O Boticario (all of whose fragrances that I tried I hated), this is just on another level. What I like is that although it is a familiar scent profile (when it came out it was much more revolutionary), nothing here smells overly synthetic or nose irritating compared to similar, overpowered blends like Haltane, Red Tobacco, etc. It's super pleasing, well-blended, and quite sexy according to me and my gf's noses. This is not going to compare to a real oud fragrance and it's not trying to. But for what it is, and for the price, this is absolutely fantastic. Definitely going to be buying a bottle of this. 8/10

Do you want try Oud but afraid of the Power Houses from Middle Eastern countries ? If yes, just try this Brazilian blend ! At the beginning is quite fresh, the fir, teh copaíba and the synthetic oud makes it really pleasant, when the initial bomb starts to fade you see a bunch of Cinnamon and sweet notes combined with the previous Copaíba balm (I just love how Natura use this precious note from Amazon Rainforest, specially in this perfum) the base notes is the Oud again, with the Copaíba balm and pinches of a synthetic safrom with bergamot, yes I sense the bergamot in the dry down. For the price is just a must ! Overall 9/10 Scent 10/10 Originality 10/10 ( no other brand combines Copaíba and Oud with Praline and Cinnamon like this) Sillage 9/10 (This is strong, not safe for any office, but if you use just a little it is because is sweet and fresh) Longevity 10/10 ( it stays on your skin for hour and hours) I love this one !

What a pleasant surprise. This fragance opens up very warm and inviting. The oud is there, but is subtle.. sweetened by the praline and cinnamon. I get a very elegant vibe while wearing this. Funny, because it costed me around $24 USD on discount. It still smells very elegant.. suit and tie or business casual type scent. This is a very good beginner's oud. I totally recommend this fragance. You will actually get compliment while wearing this, just make sure you wear it exclusively during cold days. Price: 10/10 Scent: 8/10 Longetivity: 8/10 (around 7 hours on my skin, very solid, yet not exceptional) Sillage: 7/10 (projection above average) Mass appealing: 7.5/10 (i got some compliments while wearing this fragance, and there's nothing in here that could be percieved as disgusting.. oud is subtle and elegant, not animalic at all)

Picked this up from a vendor on Ebay, as these are a bit hard to get in the States. Upon trying this for the first time, I could tell it reminded me of something, but couldn't place what it was... Then I thought back to something I wore the other day, and it totally reminded me of it. It is not 1:1, but it is in the realm, and because it's discontinued, this is a great pick up. The frag this reminds me of is Bvlgari Man In Black Essence, as the oud is similar, the spices are similar, but the florals they use are very similar as well. This is a great frag, with great performance. This is obviously a fall, winter, early spring frag, as the oud is strong, but not the fecal kind of oud. I really like this one, and since Bvlgari MIB Essence is discontinued, this was a great pick up.

#1187 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I have really become bullish on Brazilian perfumery, Natura in particular, and their use of Brasil's magnificent biodiversity fragrance notes you can't get anywhere else (I'll move on to O Boticario's "Zaad" line later this month). I've been pleased with every Natura "Homem" EDP and every "Essencial" EDP but "ATO." "Essencial Oud" is another excellent fragrance with top level performance. Absolutely signature worthy. Very versatile for any use. Not likely to offend in any setting. Mild westernized oud, but it's the other notes like cypriol, copaiba, gurjan, a nice green lean from the fir. Everything here is warmly masculine, modern and likeable, especially the under $50 price tag on PureBrasil.com.

Pode parecer assustador a princípio, mas é um perfume surpreendentemente agradável. Pensei que seria excessivamente amadeirado, mas ele trás um certo dulçor que equilibra, a nota de Oud é muito bem trabalhada e não se torna sufocante. O desempenho é fantástico, usei ontem a noite em uma reunião de trabalho e recebi alguns elogios, hoje pela manhã ainda estava muito presente na roupa e senti resquícios na pele. Comprei por 150 reais, então o custo-benefício foi esplêndido.

Exquisito. No es un oud "animal", más bien aromático y agradable al olfato común. Me encantó. Muy masculino y con presencia. Mucha durabilidad y para ocasiones especiales nocturnas o climas frescos a fríos. Es muy fuerte, deja la estela y puedo estar olfateándolo horas luego de habérmelo puesto. Queda impregnado en la ropa. Lo compré a ciegas y no me arrepiento para nada. Lo conseguí a un precio excelente (20usd)

My jam right here. This is perfect in performance, scent profile, presentation, and ingredient quality. 10/10 signature scent worthy, and yes I would wear it in the summer - be different.

I decided to write a new review - Essencial Oud needs a full wear and a whole day to appreciate it correctly. At first smell it is akin to any other synthetic agarwood (oud) blend - the real one has a rather unpleasant wet hay notes, this is not the case. The difference lies in the spices, they are evident at first smell. It then follows a non-cloying sweetness that stands over time with great consistency. I can't describe the base notes: I associate them with the wood a Peruvian desk I had was made of - the aroma was so invasive that you couldn't help but feel it when the drawers were opened. This woody note is combined with a musky one that gives it a flowery feeling. In short, terribly complex and very durable. It seems to me that it wins by a landslide if you arelooking for a good quality, low price option. And, from what I have smelled out there, unknown (as it has not happened to me with Sauvage, who smelled it even in the soup). In this regard, I do not find references regarding those that I have or have smelled, recently or a long time ago (and there must be some of that because in "this perfume reminds me of ..." there is none in which positive mentions prevail) .

Sendo bem sincero, muita gente coloca esse perfume no céu, e eu não digo que é isso tudo que dizem, realmente, ele é uma BOMBA, projeta demais, onde você chega ele exala e todos sentem, e fixa muito, umas 12h fácil, então tem que ter cuidado com as borrifadas. Achei ele um perfume mais formal, ele me remete ao Homem Tato, talvez por causa da canela que eu sinto neles, mas enfim, é muito cheiroso, mas não é tudo que dizem, mas ainda sim eu compraria fácil.

Maybe the best Natura's fragrance ever made (rivaling the original Essencial), this one succeeds in bringing a non medicinal oud note combined with a classy powdery sweet accord and a hint of cinnamon. One of the most wearable Oud fragrances I've smelt, It's at the same time safe and distinct. A great introduction for those who are not familiar with agarwood.

It smells sinthetic and artificial but is super good for the price. Very good sillage and longevity. Probably there is little of oud here, or nothing even. Overall it is a nice fall/night fragrance

Horrível! Nunca doei ou joguei fora perfume. Mesmo dos quais enjoei (One Million, Kayak Aero) eu guardei e voltei a usar em ocasiões cabíveis. Esse eu doei cheio, uma BOMBA, incomoda demais, só dá pra usar no frio tremendo, e ainda evaporava pela tampa, melecou meu armário. Péssimo!

The cinnamon and bergamot take over on my skin and I do not like how it smells. On my skin it got very sweet, strong and unsophisticated.

One of the best Brazilian fragrances, alongisde Essencial Mirra. It opens on my skin very spicy with a blast of cardamom and saffron, with a smoky resinous touch of elemi. This opening also merges with a somewhat liqueur-like cinnamon with praline along with a woody-earth-smoky accord formed by oud, copaiba, and patchouli, balanced by musk, sandalwood, and cashmeran, which make the perfume rough and "creamy" at the same time. The oud here is not challenging, it's medicinal, smokier and aged oud, the smell of a well-preserved antique ebony piece of furniture. It's perfect for cloudy nights and days, given its darkness and density. It has an incredible performance, perhaps the greatest among Natura perfumes, lasting beyond 12 hours and projecting beastly for over 3 hours. Suitable for very mild climates, preferably below 19°C, and doesn't go well with sun or light, fitting perfectly in cloudy weather and cold nights. I understand the comparisons with Red Tobacco. On my skin, both have a very similar beginning, I believe because of the combination of saffron, cinnamon, and oud, producing a mouth-watering liqueur-like accord, as if it were a heavily-bodied cherry liqueur. It has nothing to do with oud and rose-based perfumes like CH Men Insignia or Ferrari Leather Essence. One or another shared note doesn't make the perfume similar. It's a very dense, gothic, woody, dark, and virile perfume. Despite being sweet, I don't find it excessively sweet or youthful at all. Perhaps because of this, it's somewhat polarizing for the Brazilian public. I admire Natura's boldness in making such a perfume amidst an ocean of generic, bubblegum-like fragrances and fresh scents that smell like a shopping mall store. Essencial Oud is a mature, sober, and formal perfume. It evokes the image of the interior of an old mansion on a winter night: solid wood furniture, leather armchairs, old books, a burning fireplace, where the burnt logs bring a toasted almond smell... it's not a perfume for everyone, fortunately. Edit: It's important to note that there are considerable differences between batches. The first batch, from the old bottle, has a much more prominent and medicinal oud, less presence of spicy notes of cinnamon and saffron. It's also more potent than the perfume from the new bottle; I believe they reformulated it to make it more commercial. So, if you want something more potent and niche, I advise you to look for the old bottle. Now, if the concern is to use something more commercial and pleasing to the masses, go for the new bottle.
