Gravitas Pour Homme

I watched a few reviews on this one before it arrived from Naughton and Wilson. I saw a couple of somewhat consistent complaints: Lack of performance and lack of originality. Let's break it down: Performance: So, to me, this performs like an extrait or parfum, which is to say that it stays closer to the skin, that being said, I was getting consistent whiffs coming out of my shirt at 7 hours last night. This morning, I did 6 or 7 sprays, and I have a nice scent bubble going. In a way it reminds me of a Creed fragrance, I typically overspray them a little bit (with a couple of exceptions: Himalaya and GIT for example) and that's fine. You need to know what you're spraying, the opposite of an Amouage, which are typically 2 sprays max for me on their beastly offerings. Scent: Is this scent the most original: no. That being said, I think it's great. It has some elements that remind of Bois De Portugal, which I love, but it's not overwhelmingly similar at all. A beautiful, citrus lavender opening, followed by a vanilla/ambergris dry down. I like something that AC (on youtube) said concerning the texture: this fragrance has a luxurious texture, it reminds me of the best elements of a Creed dry down with the beautiful, real, ambergris. The scent profile is exactly what I'd expect from Mr. Smelly - classic but not dated, opulent. Presentation: Overall the presentation is very nice and well thought out. I gave it a close inspection though and found a couple of little things: The cap on this bottle and essentia both had some small imperfections: one had a small (I mean small) ding in it, as well as several very small scratches on both. The GPH bottle had some adhesive on the corner of the plague. Overall, I would be surprised if this packaging weren't made in the far east, which is fine, but maybe the quality of the execution doesn't quite match the grandeur of the design in my opinion. Suitability: I would say gentleman 30+, more formal than everyday wear. As I write this I'm wearing a flannel shirt in my home office in the dead of winter, and it doesn't seem out of place. Value: I was able to get the bundle of GPH and GPHE for $150 delivered. To me, GPH has an almost CREED like quality to the juice, so a great value. Overall: I'm happy I added this great juice to my collection, it's a great value, and very aesthetically pleasing, the dry down gives me the same sort of blissful enjoyment as a top of the line Creed Fragrance. After fortunately finding a decant from a fragcomm friend in the US, this is my very first wearing of Naughton & Wilson Gravitas Pour Homme. After seeing the largely positive reviews for months now and slowly building up the desire to try what has been hailed as a classic-meets-modern masculine mix, I’m happy to finally smell it. It immediately lives up to the hype, its mix of lavender, citruses, coriander, cardamom, pepper, patchouli, oakmoss, ambergris, and vanilla fostering a modern classic men’s signature scent that feels balanced and tidy, but quite interesting with its own twists. It’s fresh, floral, spicy, with slightly sweet and woody undertones, very much as the note breakdown suggests, with the lavender/oakmoss fougere formula in play and a handful of spices (coriander cardamom, pepper) in the heart providing a lot of the life after the initial burst of lavender. It comes off very spicy out of the bottle but is palpably more balanced on skin, with some of the sweetness coming out especially after a few hours. Overall, Gravitas is lovely, a traditional fougere concept rendered modernly sweet and balanced, its sharp and spicy tones balanced by a more subdued dry down. This is a great achievement, a very nice entry, and a very good performer. Also, its pricing is very reasonable for a niche/independent release, at £90 (rough $116) for 100ml, though I’m not yet sure of the shipping costs to the US. Still, this is a welcome price for a niche/independent release nowadays, especially considering that it performs well. This is definitely a recommended try for all men, as it has versatility, value, and performance, with familiarity but not so much to reel redundant. And I imagine some women could be very comfortable wearing it, as well. Bravo to Dan on this release—I look forward to obtaining a bottle and seeing what else comes from Naughton & Wilson. 8 out of 10

Quick question: Does Gravitas smell closer to MDCI Invasion Barbare or Davidoff Zino? Answer: Davidoff Zino. Another quick question: What the heck is wrong with people's noses? I guess there is no answer to that last question, but I'm referring to the "...reminds me of..." list above. Do they even have Invasion Barbare to do a direct comparison? I have Gravitas, Zino, Invasion Barbare, Milano Cento. Gravitas does smell similar to Davidoff Zino. Also similar to Parfums de Nicolai New York Intense without the civet/castoreum funk. New York Intense cleaned up. And I see the comparisons to Milano Cento Him too. All of that is good, as I really like Gravitas. Very smooth representative of my favorite olfactory genre. Nearly as smooth as Mr. Smelly's favorite fragrance, and my #4 favorite, Creed Bois du Portugal. Very much in the same ballpark. Also some similarities to brilliant classic Fougere representatives Houbigant Fougere Royale (2010) and Amouage Bracken Man. But performance on Gravitas is indeed a little lacking. I know this is a little contentious by reading the comments below. I'm in the 4th hour of wear now and even sticking my nose to the areas of application only gives a slight skin scent. I sprayed pretty heavily, on wrist and mostly clothes. I sprayed Gravitas and Davidoff Zino on test strip at about the same time and Zino is stronger after 4 hours. It's not nose blindness because I smell the Zino. I don't care about projection, just longevity. I don't get the "long lasting" rating reflected here. Despite performance, very well done scent..

I ordered 9 samples from Luckyscent: Naughton & Wilson - Gravitas Pour Homme Naughton & Wilson - Gravitas Essentia Initio - Oud For Greatness Xerjoff - Naxos Eight and Bob - Egypt Masque Milano - Sleight of Fern Penhaligons - Sartorial Histoires de Parfums -1725 Houbigant - Fougere Royal While none of the fragrances mentioned were bad, both Gravitas and Gravitas Essentia were my favorite. I’ve been wanting to try Dans Gravitas for a while now and I’m glad I did. I’m a huge fan of his channel and I’d say a lot of his fragrance recommendations align with my taste. Gravitas is an excellent fragrance. It starts off with a nice bergamot and lavender combo very similar to the opening of Creeds Bois Du Portugal. Then in the mid there is a similarity to MDCIs Invasion Barbare, with a little bit of the cardamom spice coming through. On the dry down you get very creamy vanilla, patchouli, and ambergris. To me this is not so heavy on oakmoss as something like Beau De Jour by Tom Ford. The oakmoss is not that detectable here, but adds to the overall depth. Gravitas Essentia on the other hand tones down the vanilla and spice, and adds some minty freshness and greenery. I thought long about which I prefer as it didn’t make sense to own both for me, and in the end preferred Gravitas. All in all, if this is the kind of fragrance you’re looking for then Gravitas is something you should try. I have a full bottle on the way.

I get upset when I read mixed reviews as I do here. I read some where clearly the person has tried it and many where I see repeated nonsense such as ‘doesn’t project’ etc where I feel someone is just trying to win balloons with no actual experience. Any how... a great take on a mature fougere/cologne that... ahem... has awesome projection and longevity that has become one of my recent regular wears. Over simplified it’s a sugary sweet lavender and mandarin backed by a dark mossy base covered smooth vanilla darkened by patchouli. Add some smashed fresh black pepper for kick and you have a strange warming but fresh scent. At times it reminds me of Dior Eau Sauvage at least on the darker side of the dry down. When I wear this I time stamp back to the seventies thinking of my father wearing it in his dress shirt and flares as we arrived after a long flight at London Heathrow from Sydney. For me it’s perfectly balanced - nose closer to skin I can pick almost each note but I’m amazed how amazingly well blended it is. In the longer dry down the smooth vanilla which is slightly dirty, slightly peppery, slightly tainted by lavender dominates and does a good job of washing over people in the vicinity. Performance v price is well worth while, so much so that I’ve Blind bought Bon Viveur as soon as it appeared on Luckyscents web page...

This is a dark horse of a fragrance and massively underrated. My interest in the 'Scent World' was triggered by my curiosity and intrigue into what was a 'Barbershop' scent, which opened a door not unlike that of into Narnia. Starting this journey in my early 40's probably the widest spectrum of scents that were accessible (and appropriate!) for me. At first, I quickly and naturally gravitated towards cleaner scents, or what I learnt to be a 'Fougere'. After a while, and a lot of money, my tastes really broadened, along with my collection. I had already discovered Penhaligon's Sartorial, which became one of my favourite daily drivers, as it has brilliant versatility. Gravitas however, slightly edges the versatility in my opinion. I can wear Gravitas for absolutely any occasion, and can wear in the office without hesitation or forethought, while still enjoying wearing a top end fragrance. It smells sophisticated, complex but simple, and expensive without shouting about it. The bottle looks and feels nice, and has a purposeful weight to it, and I appreciate the operation of the atomizer, everything about this feels expensive, and has 'Gravitas'... The only downside to this is that I will need to replace it soon as the bottle does not remain full!

For me, Gravitas opens with more than a nod to Lalique Pour Homme EDP. I get citruses, lavender, vanilla, star anise, pepper, patchouli, ambergris, herbs/oak moss and a minty accord. Yes, I realise that I’ve gone beyond the published scent profile! If I was asked to make a similar scent, using 2 of my own fragrances and nothing else, I would be using: Lalique Pour Homme 90% Milano Cento 10% For the performance, I get more than 3 hours of projection and a further 3 hours on the skin before it fades out. I like Gravitas and I know that the very best available ingredients were used (except for the vanilla which was going to make the fragrance too expensive). It has been reviewed very positively by many friendly fragrance channels on YouTube who received a free bottle of the £90+ juice. If the crudely finished view of the view of the back of the name plate on the bottle is tidied up in future releases, the bottle will look half decent. I have now owned a bottle of Gravitas for over a year (this is an updated review) and rate it 6/10 for the scent itself, 3/10 for originality and a 4-5/10 for performance. Bottom line. Buy Milano Cento or Lalique Pour Homme for similar results and better performance at half the price!

My bottle comes from the initial release about five years ago. It's fantastic. This is a masculine, aromatic barbershop-type fragrance done in a modern style. It doesn't smell like something from the 80's; it isn't animalic, rugged or heavy on the oakmoss and spices. What I notice most is the vanilla. That note just speaks to me. All the other notes are blended beautifully to play a supporting role. This isn't a sweet vanilla, but more of a smooth, creamy one combined with the cardamom, pepper and citrus notes. I've tried most of the top 5 "reminds me of" fragrances above and Gravitas PH is better than all of them. It does remind me of Lalique Pour Homme (lion). I'm also reminded (slightly) of the citrus/vanilla combo in Mancera Cedrat Boise. Gravitas Pour Homme has great performance, as it lasts a long time and I can smell it in the air for hours. It doesn't project like a beast, which makes it suitable for most occasions. The quality of the bottle design, sprayer and juice is high. I would say it's akin to a higher-end designer brand (like YSL/Chanel/Dior). Thank you, John Stephen and Dan Naughton (and Mr. Wilson) for bringing this into my life.

I have become addicted to Gravitas ! Such a breath of fresh air in a world now dominated by novelties that all smell alike and fade within minutes. Gravitas is resurrecting the 1980's tradition of quality and timeless signature scents for men. It has now incorporated my top 5 favourite fragrances alongside the likes of Green Irish Tweed, and Geo. F . Trumper's Sandalwood, and being inspired by a classic and timeless take on fashion myself, i find Gravitas to be a good pairing with my style and spirit. Having worked in the luxury industry, I just like well designed things that never go out of trend, and the same applies to well composed fragrances ! If you like a juice with elegance and personality, something masculine and comforting at the time, that stands out from the duty free usual suspects, Gravitas might be what you're looking for. With regards to longevity now, i get about 4 hours solid, then i get the impression it fades into a skin scent. But it might just be my own perception. I can't wait for the return of social interaction to see people's reactions. I predict a wave of suprises, questions and compliments. Fingers crossed !

What a surprise this has been. Gravitas Pour Homme has quickly become one of my favourite fragrances. It's such an enjoyable and satisfying wearing experience. I'd long been searching for a barbershop scent that smells modern and sexy while retaining the elegance and mystique of the fougères that I recall from my childhood. I needn't search any longer. The craftsmanship of this perfume is superb. I always apply a spray to my forearm when wearing this because it's an aroma I want to keep sniffing up close. And my girlfriend does too. When I wear this she clings to my neck. The real magic of this fragrance, however, is how it lingers in the air. The lavender and spices are blended perfectly and are wrapped in a creamy, comforting vanilla, leaving an intoxicating scent trail. I've found Gravitas to have very decent projection and longevity. It radiates off my skin in the first three or four hours and creates a deliciously intimate scent bubble thereafter. Kudos to Naughton and Wilson for doing something that no other house has been able to achieve, Tom Ford included.

Previous reviewer practically "stole" my ideas :) I am a fan of Dan's channel: he likes more traditional colognes (where I am coming from too) and this was his first fragrance. It is for a more mature crowd IMO, nothing youthful about it (unless you compare it with BdP) but very well blended and definitely niche quality. I can see the comparison to MDCI and Guerlain below but this is unique enough for you to consider if you have those (and especially if you like those). This is definitely 20th century fragrance done with 21st century materials: I find it the best way to describe. Kind of similar to many Roja Parfums, where in a similar fashion Roger Dove quite often offers modern interpretation of his favorite older fragrances. One thing this fragrance is missing is a twist of some sort that would make it from good to great. I would dial down the patchouli as well as I feel it gets out of hand towards the end. Overall, great choice if you are looking for something different from the main stream, yet traditional and modern at the same time!!! Give it a try!

So I tested this today and 1.5hrs into wearing this with some help from the warmer Spring air temp this scent just turned into heaven! When I first tested this in the winter I was not impressed and did not see what the hype was about but now testing this in the warmer Spring weather just makes this fragrance develop beautifully. The ambergris and vanilla perfectly balance each other in the dry down and make the fragrance come alive with the aromatics present in the background. It stays masculine with the perfect balance of sweetness. This is a stunning gentleman scent which ends up turning into a modern interpretation of a barbershop fragrance in the dry down, but it does it so well where it does not smell like an old man barbershop fragrance at all, its unique and smells modern as a result, not what I expected. I find this smells more youthful than TF Beau de Jour so this would be suitable for classy refined chap between the ages of 25 and above in casual chic or dressed to impress. Peace :)

I don't like most fougere fragrances, too powdery, but this isn't at all. So well blended and the ingredients smell very high quality. Performance in really good and I get a good 10 hours from this. Lavender is there but working alongside the other elements to not overpower but it envelop you with a warmth. With this one you smell manly, gentlemanly. Not a clubbing fragrance as you can imagine but I can see this working all year round. Certainly was lovely when I even tested it in UK humid hot 35 degree weather. This is for men, not boys... or women that don't fear a traditional mans fragrance. One important thing is that you can go nose blind to this quickly. So you may think its underperforming, but if you ask others they will still be able to smell it. I hope there will be other offering from this new house. So a dumb reach for those who aren't that dumb at all.

This is one of my favorites. Hands down, it is a masterpiece. A modern interpretation of classic craftsmanship. Gravitas, like all the greats, smells best at the drydown. A commenter below complained of spices like coriander and cardamom giving it a "body odor" note. If people truly smelled like cardamom and coriander, the world would be a much better place. However, Gravitas is great for autumn and winter. I would not wear in the summer. However -- Gravitas Essentia, a masterful flanker that I personally wear, replaces that spice note with mint and green notes and is wearable year-round. I live in a climate without much cold weather and it's ideal. Gravitas for autumn and winter, with the spice notes. Gravitas Essentia for summer and all year, with the mint notes. Both have the Gravitas DNA in them, so you can't go wrong with either.

Even though there are many notes here, lavender-vanilla-patchouli is the dominating accord. There is citruses in the opening and spices in the mid (where cardamom mixing with the accord will remind you briefly of MDCI) but the accord will suppress them all in the end. Excellent longevity and projection, great presentation too! If you like Zino and Heritage (that are built around the same accord but not of the same quality), this could be a blind buy for you. Otherwise, sample first. This feels mature (40+) and formal to smart casual. Classy but not dated, nor contemporary. I like the blend and the main theme of this fragrance but this is not for everybody. Patchouli here will either make or break it for you as it is a rather dominant note in this composition.

BIG EDIT: Received my bottle from LuckyScent. The placard on the bottle was glued on sideways. I have no idea how this passed QC. Presentation gets a 3/5. After letting the juice sit for a couple months, I revisited it. It projects way differently now. I get strong whiffs of it throughout the day and lasts a great 7-8 hours on my skin with 3 sprays. I strongly believe that there are some maceration time issues during production. Again, the scent is a worldly 10/10, given that I have tried thousands of fragrances across the entire globe. I have tried many from Arabic to Zamerican (zamerican?). It ranks high on the pound for pound list. Old school DNA with a great modern freshness in it. What a fragrance. I am relieved that I did not gift this bottle away.

Just got this yesterday and my second day of wearing it. In short, I love it. Very classy, warm, barbershop fougere vibe. Bit powdery, bit sweet, bit old school. Very gentlemanly, not super modern but very wearable. Natural smelling without the chemical or ambroxan of many modern popular frags. Starts out with an ethereal aromatic lavender and citrus and dries down to a powdery warm vanilla and coriander. I generally don't like vanilla, especially if it's too sweet or dense, but here it's very enjoyable. I'm wearing this indoors on an unusually cool NYC May in the midst of a wuhan virus pandemic lockdown but I can see this being suitable for all four seasons, with the exception of hot muggy days, where it might be too sweet.

I really love this one! For me, the comparison that immediately came to mind was Obsession for Men: A sweet, smooth, classically masculine fragrance. It's not as overtly barbershop-esque as I had initially anticipated, but it's still in that same general ballpark. This scent just makes me happy. Perhaps it's the allusion to nostalgic days-gone-by. The longevity is the only area that leaves a little to be desired here. You'll have to spray your clothes if you want any chance of Gravitas surviving for an entire workday. Other than that, this is a wonderful fragrance that is very easy to wear and enjoy. If you like classic Fougeres and traditional barbershop-style fragrances, chances are, you'll really like Gravitas.

To me this is a gentleman's ingenious ginger by Goldfiled and banks. Very similar dry down but it's not the same. It's got that regal clove type smell in the opening and top notes and it's very classy and the dry down is a almost very similar ingenious ginger vanilla-ginger style combo on the dry down but it's not as loud. That's why I say it's a Gentleman version of ingenious ginger. It's not playful - it's class act man who is refined and to me I see this as a mass appealing style of classic fougere style of perfumery. Very very nice. 8.9/10. Get your nose on and get a sample. I got mine from scent split.

Received my decant today and in the midst of my first wearing. I like the combination of Gravitas' maturity and playful character. This could easily be a signature scent. It smells nothing like most fougeres to me, which tend to be more like lavender bombs. Loving the impact of the cardamom, ambergris, and vanilla, which make the scent more mass appealing. The sweetness of those accords is subtle, but shifts the fragrance strongly away from traditional fougere territory.

Gravitas is so great, opens up with a somewhat bitter yet pleasant bergamot note the developes into a very elegant barbershop scent. While beau de jour smells abit more like an actual shaving foam, creamy and smooth gravitas still feels smooth with more of a zingy twist to it with a tangerine/orange note that is somewhat prominent and envelopes in that mossy-vanilla combo which blend so perfectly together. One of the nicer scents in my collection and im glad to have it.

Gravitas is a strange but genius modern interpretation of a fougere in this very XXI century. Infusing the oriental and fougere families at once, reminiscing Opium Pour Homme/ Xeryus Rouge with a slight herbal refined scent. Moderate to long-lasting performance to soft -moderate silage . Not overpriced like most pretentious niche houses, not sure as of the concentration but it is indeed powerful at the beginning which is perfect to stand out. Winter / fall use only.

The most lavender-heavy fougere I've ever put my nose to, which for me isn't a bad thing at all because I love lavender. This is a very soft, fluffy cloud of lavender with little touches of everything else: a sweet-spicy cardamom and gentle coriander giving a sort of warm fuzzy top, a spritz of fresh citrus, plus a backbone of green moss and vanilla. A more modern, sweeter take on the genre than most. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 7-9hr.

This is so much better than I thought it was going to be. It doesn’t smell anything like Fougere Royale, and I’m really thankful for that. To me, it smells much closer to Beau De Jour, but with this beautiful fruitiness that BDJ lacks. I think you can wear this anytime depending on the sprays. Absolutely fantastic. Edit: I think this is actually much closer to Sartorial than the previous mentioned. Love it.

Gravitas smells lovely; it has the typical gentlemen’s cologne vibe BUT it has this sweetness with it that gives it this youthful edge. On my skin it doesn’t project much unfortunately. However I think it’s because it’s not meant to. Gravitas is an intimate fragrance that will be enjoyed by yourself and the people close to you. It is for anyone who is confident but like to be low key.

Beautifully bitter. There's a nod to the old school w/ the oakmoss, patchouli, and bergamot, but the ambergris, pepper (and maybe vanilla) really anchor Gravitas in the present. Longevity is significant, and greater projection might have resulted in an overwhelming experience. Really well done. Congrats to Mr. Smelly and his team!

Not too much to say about this, other than it is an excellent quality, refined, well balanced fougere category fragrance. Was tempted to blind buy a bottle, but ended up sampling it first, there was really no need. If you like fragrances such as Beau de Jour, Bois Imperial, Bon Monsieur - you will be in safe hands here.

Gravitas is what The Kingsman wears to work. The kind of man that: Walks with a cane and Keeps a Monocle for reading on the fly. Actually knows how to play Backgammon. Smells wine before drinking it. Occasionally smokes a pipe as a Hobby.

Oh man this is really good. It encapsulates everything I've been looking for in a masculine fragrance. It's so smooth and I would say a modern masterpiece. This fragrance will be talked about for years to come. Great job!!! 10/10

My new favorite fragrance! The Lavender is just great in this fragrance and l enjoy it very much. Barbershop fragrances are my all time favorite and its all l wear and this is just beautiful.

Amazingly beautiful scent! Such a classy but uplifting fragrance. It sits close to the skin but I kept catching whiffs of it for a few hours. Wish it had more staying and projecting power.

Nicely done! Awesome power fougere mixing lavender, patchouli and vanilla. Amazing opening that quickly goes into a lavender and vanilla dry down. Classy, beautiful, long lasting. Amazing!

Don’t get upset about other people’s reviews. People have different expectations, different experiences and different body chemistry. Just write your own with honesty and integrity.

This is definitely a really good classic man's fragrance! It does what it needs to do flawlessly. The best and simplest way to describe this fragrance is barbershop vibes!

I have finally found it!! The Holy Grail of Men's Fragrances 😍 Thank you Mr Smelly and the Team. What a Masterpiece! Can't wait to try the other's in the Line!

Damn. Gravitas smells really good. I wish it projected further...but I do not think The "Quintessential Gentleman" wants to be smelt from across the room.

Absolutely gorgeous dapper fragrance

Just got my bottles in today and while I was a little worried it may be redundant given I have things like Milano Cento and BdP already those fears have dissipated as this stands on its own with the (especially) cardamom and patchouli adding to a traditional barbershop mix. Dry down does go a little closer to Milano Cento EDP but still has its own twist with the spices. Scent doesn't project monstrously but that is how I want my fragrances personally, I want people to be intrigued not attacked, and myself to enjoy wafts through the day not a constant barrage. On the negative side though, pretty low longevity for me. Gets quite faint after 3 hours. Mr Steven did a great job on the fragrance here longevity aside, and Mr Smelly looks to have done a great job on the extra details like the presentation and the quality of the sprayer (which has a Roja like pressure sensitive activation). I initially preferred the clear sticker they had on the KS but the gold plate and cap looks really nice actually. Great job overall.

The more I use Gravitas the more I love it! A bright and citrusy sweet opening leads to a cardamom heart, which could be perceived as a nod to MDCI's Invasion Barbare. However, the journey does not end there. The dry-down ushers in very pleasant citrusy-vanillic notes supported by hints of patchouli and oak moss. I don’t usually go for vanilla, but the way it is blended in Gravitas gives a refined, classic feel reminiscent of the discontinued Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin, without the slight incensy harshness. Projection and sillage here are unassuming, and longevity is average, so it does not qualify as a powerhouse. However, more mature, elegant gentlemen will appreciate this very sophisticated, subtle creation. Nice one, Dan! I personally feel it will be better suited to the cooler months, so it has become my new go-to for autumn/winter. Oh, and the bottle is beautiful! My favourite creation of 2020.

Got a sample a while back from fragrancesamplesuk, found it again recently and for me it is very similar to Zino, I don't think it's as good as Tom Ford's BDJ but again very similar - especially after 30 minutes on skin. I think people who paid full price for it maybe don't want to admit it's really not that special. It's absolutely wearable but I think you'd need to be a fan of Dan (Mr smelly77) to really rate it above anything in a similar price bracket. If you blind buy, it's nice enough and you'll probably tell yourself it's "genius" like some of these reviews, but if you sample it first and you e tried others, I'd be surprised if you genuinely opt for this. As I say it's definitely not bad, if it sold for half the price then it may be a good option if that's your budget.

I really like this composition, but for different reasons than I exepected I would. With all the reviews claiming it was a classic fougere or "barbershop" scent, I had expected something much more sharp and traditionally manly. Gravitas is miles away from anything I associate with the "barbershop" moniker. It's much more youthful, sweet, and fruity than I was expecting. On my skin I almost exclusively smell oranges, vanilla, and patchouli. I also get a bit more of the lavender as it sits, and oddly a lot more of the lavender if I apply it to a testing strip. Based on some youtubers' impressions, I suppose I was expecting something totally sharp, ferny or mossy. It's not what I exepected, but orange grove I did get is very nice and I reach for it pretty often.

This is just a lovely retro fougère, with a beautiful opening of mandarin orange and lavender with fine projection. It moves quickly through that and through the heart (vanilla and spices), and then settles down to the oakmoss at the base, which lasts reasonably long but settles to the skin. To be fair, I voted this as having a moderate longevity because of the oakmoss remainder; but the most disappointing thing about this otherwise very beautiful fragrance is that it moves quickly through the other notes, and then becomes a skinscent. It is very reasonably priced, though, and comes in a beautiful bottle.

Modern "barbershop" fougere fragrance. The lavender is great and it is inoffensive, office safe, and well blended. It does not project much but is in the same vein similar to that of Houbligant Fougeree Royale in my opinion. Herbal and earthy is best way I can describe this. Sits very close to the skin and nothing to draw attention from others. Nothing note worthy or exception for others to gravitate towards in my opinion. Thought I enjoyed my little sample, I doubt I will be seeking out this fragrance in its full bottle or a must have in my collection.

Gravitas shares some similarities with Creed's Bois du Portugal but is better than it in some aspects. It goes down the classic fougere route and is most suited to men aged over 50. There is an added effervescent feel to it, especially in the opening stages. All in all, it is a good, safe fragrance but only if it matches this particular mature taste. It wasn't something that was overly appealing to me. Longevity is about 6-8 hours, projection is okay throughout. For the price, BdP fans may want to look here for a better option.
