Opening Night

Opening night by Nette Currently on sale for $62 under collection archive sale on Nettenyc.com Opening night is clearly one of the more misunderstood fragrances from this perfumer. It has a silky quality to the vetiver note, a punchy citrus vibe from the Bergamont and grapefruit, and a spicy sweetness from Amber and cardamom. This fragrance at first spray seems just woody, but after about 30 seconds it becomes addicting. I can’t stop smelling it off of my scent strips. I sprayed it on my wrist and I’m keeping it close to my nose. I just am shocked as someone who isn’t really a neroli and Vetiver kind of girl, that I like it so much. I deeply hate masculine scents, and I do not believe that every fragrance is unisex. This however, is one of the first sense that I believe a man could rock without question that I also want to wear. When I picture the kind of man that wears this fragrance, he’s a tall fit modelesque type of guy with a mysterious vibe. Not a bold and over-the-top personality, but extremely clean, neat and put together. As for the woman that rocks fragrance, she’s definitely a boss. This is beyond a clean girl scent, this is grown woman with contracts and business to handle.

Absolutely love that this bursts with Neroli. A green, citrusy, flowery, lovely experience. My only disappointment is it does not last long and not even as long as other Nette scents. But, I keep spraying and sniffing because it's addictive to me. I tried spraying it on clothing and my hair to see if I could make it last longer or smell more notes, but it hasn't worked. I don't smell much of the base, probably why it's so fleeting, but beautiful! ETA: I tried this on paper later. It allowed for a more nuanced experience. In the opening, bergamot and grapefruit support neroli. Then, the neroli is accented by lemon verbena and rosemary. The neroli is the star of the show here - so beautiful and luscious. The neroli lasts through drydown and joins amber, vetiver, and a bit of vanilla. I love this! Even if it might not hold up to real world use, it is beautifully done.

I can’t believe I slept on this fragrance as long as I did. Initially I bought the discovery set and this and the vanille kinda stood out to me but I wasn’t in love with either. All I thought was the vanille is pleasant and slightly reminiscent of the Hollister store scent, which is very nostalgic to me, and this one is just very fresh and inoffensive. I revisited it recently about a year later and I just instantly fell in love with this especially after trying so many neroli scents. For me, I rank this at the top of neroli frags I’ve tried so far because it’s not overly floral. I think it’s the verbena and rosemary. I just love it so much.

Really lovely. Reminiscent of Herbes Troublantes by Guerlain. Overall Nette's fragrances remind me of Diptyche, both have an underlying vintage dna in their fragrances, a really good one, and this is similar to L'eau Neroli too. Soft, very fresh, lovely. A nostalgic scent. It feels like a lingering scent in a room overlooking the sea, with white curtains blowing. Update: Enjoyed all fall, winter, and now into spring. A frequent reach.

This is a beautiful scent! The initial spray is a little harsh but it only lasts a couple seconds, then it settles into this beautiful neroli scent that's green and a little bit spicy. I bought the Nette sample pack recently and i'm so excited that it came with bigger 3ml sprays because I will definitely be wearing this one.

in the same but distant family as herb troublantes by guerlain which I sampled recently...a green, herbal, aromatic citrus. this is a nice option as it’s much more affordable upfront compared to it’s costly counterpart and the fact that this sort of scent profile (while lovely and refreshing) does not typically last that long on skin. this is the sort of scent that will cool you off on the hottest summer day where you have to be outside for one reason or another. i find the citrus / white florals to be slightly harsh compared to guerlain, but still nice and the dry down is an ambery vanilla. doesn’t compare to thé vanille from the same brand which i’ve fallen fully & completely in love with, but a nice option nonetheless.

Opens up with unmistakable neroli and citrus; feels fresh, clean, and soapy... a lot like Naviglio by Milano Fragranze, except Opening Night takes a nosedive into Sweet Tarts territory pretty quickly on the tapering end of the dry-down (I know that sounds rather odd, but that's what I'm getting: Sweet Tarts candy, after 30 minutes of wear). The verbena + rosemary duo is very refreshing while it lasts, and the vetiver is very mild. Unisex. Great for summer if it works for you. If it weren't for shallow lasting power and the odd dry down on my skin, I'd be all over it.

This is a lovely unisex offering. Reminds me a lot of TF Neroli Portofino. A brazen bergamot/vetiver opening that softens into that classic soapy sweet aromatic neroli/rosemary accord. Beautiful. Easy reach in spring and summer.

I blind bought this fragrance since Nette was having a sale and was very pleasantly surprised, with opening night you get the pure bergamot and grapefruit, I feel like you can smell the rind as well as the fruit pulp, leading to an almost bitter citrus scent that to me is incredibly cooling and refreshing in the summertime. The neroli comes through really well and adds a cleaner feel during the dry down. I don't get any of the vanilla in the base notes after a few hours but the amber and vetiver add a balanced earthy tone to the overall scent.

I finally got around to trying a travel spray I have of this. I get a totally different impression from most of the other reviewers. To me, it is an initial blast of soap quickly followed by a scent very similar to Para Mi Bebe cologne for boys (a lot of the Hispanics here will likely know exactly what I mean). It then finishes with a soft musky scent. Yes, I guess overall it's pleasant, but not something I would go out of my way to find.

This one smells exactly like Irish Spring Soap! I love the way Irish Spring smells. Dove and Irish Spring are my favorite drug store soaps. On the skin, it even smells like Irish Spring, but with a bit more citrus. Opening Night is nice and clean and I'd say leans just a bit masculine because of its similarity to Irish Spring. Nostalgic and clean. Big bottle worthy? Not for me. But lovely none the less.

The opening is very strongly like Chanel 5 but spicier and less powdery. Dries down into something pretty intimate that is mostly the fresh bergamot/grapefruit with a touch of amber. This is an okay fragrance, but I think the verbena/rosemary + grapefruit aren't working super well with the other notes. In the drydown I get a bit of a bugspray afterstink from that herby green citrus blend.

I'm not sure which note I'm getting that I dislike because individually I love all the notes. But this smells too...almost ozonic/watery for what it is

Woody aromatic citrus. It is bright and grounded. I love the addition of a rosemary note! Masculine leaning but I still find it wearable as a woman.

Usually, when folks describe a citrusy fragrance as smelling like cleaning products, I strongly disagree. Opening Night, however, stinks almost unbearably of recently cleaned-yet-still-dirty public bathroom for me. The neroli is extremely strong, and even though I love every single one of the other notes (neroli is, admittedly, not always my favorite), the combination is somehow repugnant. Nette's other fragrances tend to fall squarely into the "fine" category (La Foret being the standout lovable exception), but this feels artificial, unbalanced, and altogether unpleasant.

Sephora's website is positively swarmed with rapturous reviews in exchange for free bottles of Nette, so it's nice to see it finally entering the marketplace of unsolicited opinions. Hype masterminded by a social-media-honed marketing team can only take a brand so far. I would say that Opening Night's own description is closer to my experience than either the scent pyramid or the other reviews. It's ultimately, as advertised, an ambery vanilla with very little fanfare. There's a bracing citrus opening festooned with some vetiver and aromatics in supporting roles, but these facets fade pretty quickly, and what's left is a pleasant but unremarkable resinous, very faintly herbal vanilla. A better, more assertive version of this fragrance would have amplified the rosemary and vetiver, creating something that, if not worthy of the fanfare of an opening night, would have at least left more of a mark. As it stands, it's a nice, unisex, office-friendly vanilla, algorithm approved and everything.

The drydown of this fragrance after several hours has me in a chokehold. It’s like you’ve been in the pool swimming all day long and now you’re drying out in the sun with this almost chlorinated note that somehow almost turns heady in a musky way. It’s a clean and pretty neroli scent that holds the same vibes as Neroli Portofino types of scents but the drydown always gets me good because it has the dreamlike emanation of how I smell petrichor rising off the ground and makes me contemplate upgrading my sample.

Wow, insane John Varvatos Artisan Pure vibes immediately off the opening. Sparkling, citric, and uplifting with similar green facets too. My favorite from the Nette sample discovery set, anyone who loves Artisan Pure which has been discontinued for some time needs to try this one. Seems to develop and dry very similarly too what a gem.

Unisex feminine-leaning neroli! I rather like this! A beautiful blend of lavender, rosemary, and all the garden herbs. Has this been discontinued by the brand? Because I can't find it anywhere on their website or SpaceNK Edit: Sooo sad :-[ They did discontinue this, it seems. I just want or wish for them to bring it back.

PLEASE if anybody finds a reasonably priced bottle of this please let me know, I finally dusted off my discovery set again and gave this a whiff and I’m obsessed and need it!! :(

The dry down of this smells like Another 13 to me. I don’t even know if there’s neroli in A13 but they have such a similar vibe.
