Thé Vanille

YESSSS!! Finally. The Vanille has arrived, not only in the Fragrantica database but also as a FB on my shelf! After purchasing Nette’s (very generous) sampler, I absolutely fell in love with The Vanille; a “green”creamy, cold type of vanilla with salty/ mineral notes elevated by an herbal matcha, soft notes of turmeric/ cardamom and rounded out with earthy white florals/ orris. It’s truly a unique and (to me) perfectly unisex scent with excellent longevity and moderate sillage. Not overtly sweet or dense and definitely far from gourmand land, thankfully! Which is precisely its appeal, especially as I recently find myself tiring of mainstream trends and their ubersweet vanillas. Some days I just don’t want to smell like a cupcake, mmmkay? Yesterday I did, but that’s irrelevant right now. Because right now I have The Vanille. The perfect antidote to my (sometimes) shameless overindulgences of Pink Sugar, Fantasy, Chocomusk, Sweet Tooth, VLJ, etc. Don’t judge me, or my inability to self regulate. I have my teen daughter for that when she hugs me and says, “BRUH”..so imagine my surprise when she actually complimented me the day I wore TV for the first time! SOLD. Got me a FB and more hugs. Ps. Nette’s entire line is definitely worth checking out! I also have Opening Night & next on my list is Coco Fleur. Their sampler is FIRE.

The Vanille is of its namesake: vanilla, tea. Very strong salty opening, but it mellows out and sticks around as you wear it. There's some mild spice between the cardamom and turmeric, and the florals subtly uplift this blend. It's quite soothing and even refreshing, but don't expect a gourmand - I don't know why it's labeled gourmand on the box! This is not a warm, sticky-sweet vanilla. There's a lot of disappointed reviews on Sephora because folks expected something truly foody - it's not, which actually makes this style of vanilla perfect for warmer weather and people who generally do not like gourmands. It's not a sheer perfume, but it's languid enough to overspray without any issues. In fact, it smells better and better the more you layer it on itself. Pulls perfectly unisex. I'm pleasantly surprised by it, definitely a new love. Edit: this one is really, really growing on me. I love it the more I wear it. Obsessed. It also needs time to mature. Spray, leave it alone for a couple weeks, then try it again. It gets a little sweeter and more calming with time. The astringency mellows out after a while.

WOW- upon my first time smelling this I didn’t love it, but that’s because I expected a simple warm gourmand vanilla. This is NOT that- so ignore its name🤣. How could I even describe this- okay bear with me here. This smells like a salty vanilla matcha latte being sipped on a cozy cloudy day out on the coast. It is so complex and frankly I am in love with it. For me, the spicier, saltier costal notes fade the soonest, which I am not mad about because what is left is a non-(too)sweet vanilla salted ice cream cozy skin type of smell. Personally, I feel this is warmer and cozier (for colder weather) but my friend really picked up on a coconut more costal scent and said she would wear it in summer. Either way, this is not basic, it genuinely is like art in my opinion. It also lasts FOREVER on my skin, possibly the longest lasting perfume I own, and the sillage can be pretty good if you spray a good amount, but it is a potent perfume with such a long wear time, so I only do 2/3 sprays and the sillage is moderate that way.

This is a really pretty, refreshing vanilla that has an airy and cold quality to it. It opens up almost savory with the top notes and dries to a nice woody, creamy vanilla that isn’t gourmand or sweet at all. I can be quite sensitive to green fragrances, and this isn’t green to my nose, but rather something kind of herbal that is enveloped in a mellow cold vanilla. It doesn’t read as intense or invasive to me, and makes for a nice work/function friendly scent. In my opinion, the projection is moderate and the longevity is a couple of hours before it becomes a subtle skin scent. If you’re someone that wants to consistently notice their fragrance well into the day (or well after spraying it), you might need to carry around a travel size of this one. Overall, I mainly see it as a daytime winter/spring fragrance, but it could also easily become a signature. Once I finish my travel spray, I’m investing in a full bottle. It’s unlike anything else in my collection.

How can something smell airy and earthy all at once? This scent is a beautiful, herby, salty vanilla that is somehow so addicting even though I don't particularly like it that much when I whiff it directly off my arm. But when I catch it floating by at an unexpected moment, I'm utterly floored. It reminds me of walking outdoors next to the sea in northern california, with the smell of fresh salt in the air, and wild grass underfoot. Or the smell of a mediterranean summer night when the air smells like sage, dry and vegetal. And then the vanilla opens up a deeper dimensionality and coziness that you can sink into. The salty green notes along with the vanilla create a beautiful drydown that lingers on my clothes until the next day. This isn't a particularly feminine scent, but it makes me feel like a serene and mysterious woman when I wear it. I haven't been able to stop reaching for this the last couple days. It feels like a scent for the end of summer.

Oh my goodness. This is one of the best fragrances I’ve tried this year. This is the perfect vanilla for anyone who isn’t a fan of syrupy sweet gourmands. Upon the initial spray the cardamom jumped out at me. This is a super green smelling scent at first. Very earthy. The dry down turns into a warmer vanilla with some spice. It’s almost woody. I’ve been able to smell this on myself all throughout the day and every time I get a wiff it sends me to heaven. Although this is a unisex fragrance I do feel that it’s slightly more feminine leaning. I saw someone else on another site comment that this dries down to a “your skin but better” scent and I couldn’t agree more. One of the most complex vanilla scents I’ve tried. I think I might need to get myself a full bottle!

This is way more aquatic than blue turquoise with no black pepper. I can sort of see why you would be reminded of it but it's very misleading if you go in thinking that's what you'll smell. This is a salty, radiant, ambient vanilla that isn't vanilla foward. The notes blend together into a hazy mood that sort of shimmers off of your skin. It's quite underrated, and very skillyfully done. If anything it reminds me more of Divine by JPG with much less sweetness. The salt is STRONG btw. You really have to like that. I love this.

I smelled this on a customer and immediately asked about it, someone below me said they smelled sandalwood I too smell this and even asked if what she was wearing had sandalwood in it... to find out this doesn’t is simply mind blowing it smells amazing I am so sensitive to vanilla and dislike just about all vanilla but this is one I can get behind bravo!! I purchased this and it’s everything I smelled in the wild, also very long lasting. Very green, very airy

Wonderful scent! It's a unique fragrance! The notes stand out in a pleasant way without being overpowering. I really like that it’s not sold everywhere; it keeps a low profile, which makes it a bit more exclusive. I wear it both day and night and have received compliments. They have other fragrances as well and i have tried them all, but there's something about this one that i absolutely love!

Re wearing this, I’ve had it for a number of years it’s the only perfume I have smelled on a women and asked what she was wearing and then purchased it. Truly is unisex, think of it as vanilla for those who hate vanilla it is salty, I get zero aquatic. In the air it smells amazing up close can get a tad bit funky all in all I enjoy it 7.8/10

reminds me of gris charnel and ode to dullness in that it’s so complex and warm and addicting. such a cool girl vanilla

The feels like a more mature and complex Vanilla Vibes by JHAG. I came into the perfume hobby a vanilla hater, but Vanilla Vibes taught me that vanilla doesn't have to be sweet, sugary, or gourmand and opened my heart to it. It was always amusing seeing people upset that that scent didn't smell like what they expected it to, like every other mid-range vanilla out there. I, for one, am glad us gourmand skeptics have something for us! It seems like Thé Vanille is getting the same criticism, which means they are probably doing something right in my book. I think this Nette scent builds on the vanilla/marine profile of Vanilla Vibes and erects a fun and alluring scaffold of floral and green notes sitting atop it like a crown. There is something deeper, more complex, and almost sparkling about Thé Vanille. The orris gives it depth, the cardamom gives it warmth, and I think the floral touches are just right. I don't really get much tea, though, and I don't get an offensive level of turmeric like some. I think it dries down a little flatter, though, like the wind snatches the green away from the top of the cathedral. I do wish it had some more fast green notes, but as it is, I think it would layer very well with something similarly sparkling and green. Very nice. 8.5/10.

Agree with many that this is surprisingly not creamy, based on the listed notes. I expected something more gourmand, but like the reviewer below me has said, this is not a matcha latte scent, this is a green tea with no milk and a splash of vanilla, maybe with a hint of spice. I haven't decided if I like it or not. Smelled afar, this spiciness reminds me of the way that some ambroxan perfumes, like Juliette Has a Gun's Not a Perfume, smell to me. In the end, it settles into a clean (almost soapy) vanilla. Unfortunately the lasting power on both clothing and skin is not great Edit to add: Somehow testing over time has made the vanilla note come through much stronger and the spiciness to recede for me. The vanilla still isn't creamy in a traditionally gourmand way. I actually do really like Thé Vanille a lot and can see it being worn in many contexts—it is somehow both cozy and fresh; somehow I can see it worn for autumnal, summer, spring, and even winter months.

A marine, vanilla tea. I think there is a bit of floral...possibly magnolia. I am getting no overt orris root. It's pretty. The vanilla is not nearly as dominant as the tea note, so it's less vanilla forward than the name implies. I'm getting more spice, maybe cardamom, in the drydown. Overall, nice enough! ETA: I tried this on paper later. It starts heavy on the salt, turmeric, and maté with a touch of cardamom. Later, white flowers enter as well, magnolia and narcissus, but the opening notes still continue. The saltiness lasts throughout, until a deep vanilla drydown with dusty orris. It is a wonderful collection of spices, tea, and a dusty, dry vanilla. Very beautiful!

Ok I am kinda obsessed. The salt in the opening really spikes it for me (and I love that it flavors the entire wear). This is a dry vanilla. Herbal with the tea running through. There is vanilla floating around BUT it’s not sugary sweet vanilla (although it adds a tiny balancing touch of sweetness). This perfume has a fresh, but also cozy, feeling to it. Definitely picking up an underlying line of bitterness (possibly based on the turmeric???), more interesting than off-putting. I would not describe this scent as a crowd pleaser, but if you want an interesting salty green tea scent with a swirl of spiced, dry, almost woody vanilla ...this is for you. Easily unisex.

Beautiful, herbal vanilla that is not loud or cloying and won’t offend anyone. The dry tea notes shine bright and make this fragrance very clean-smelling. The vanilla provides the cozy base you need to keep you from smelling like an herb pantry. I find this to be more of a skin scent, although I have received compliments from a hug. Wear this to the office, to brunch, or to visit your baby niece. Despite its safety level and my proclivity for loud, dirty, beast-mode type fragrances, I find that I rather do enjoy wearing this one around the house on a chilly evening or when running errands.

Imagine being in a tea shop that has fresh cut white floral arrangements on each table. When you sit down, you’re drinking an iced green tea (not matcha) with an addition of unsweetened vanilla. It’s a chic new spot with their own tea blend, which has a kick of secret spice in that floats around your senses in the beginning. It’s fall, and while you’re drinking said tea, you can smell the shop itself and the bouquets of fresh flowers all around you. At the end very end, you decide to steal the flowers off the table and stuff them in your pocket for the rest of the day. That’s The Vanille

A unique not-so-sweet aromatic vanilla. For lovers of Diptyque Eau Duelle and Le Labo Thé Matcha, this is a pretty good option. Heavy hand on the jasmine- it smells like a freshly brewed jasmine tea with a dash of vanilla extract- it's definitely a "dry" vanilla like others have noted- not sugary. There's definitely a good earthiness accompanied by a creamy facet from the orris and white florals that round out this vanilla, making it alluring but also more of a "mature" vibe. Not always what I would go for but it's a bit different than a lot of the other vanillas on the market!

Pretty and pleasant. Smells very herbal, salty, and just a touch floral. The vanilla is really soft in this, tucked underneath the fresh tea leaves. This is definitely not a gourmand. It feels very seasonally neutral, like you could wear it at any time of the year. Very wearable and work-appropriate. Down side is sillage and projection are quite light. Sort of reminds me of a quieter, more subdued cousin to Ellis Brooklyn’s Sci-Fi, but where that one is sweeter, heavier on the vanilla, and lighter on the tea scent, this one is more heavily tea-scented, herbal, and aromatic.

Thé Vanille 's composition is like a stormy, watercolour blend of incongruities. It's both herbal, vanillic, and marine; the comfort of strong, hot tea (with vanillic notes) meets the chilliness of brackish waves. You're visiting an old, secluded beach house, close enough to the shoreline for an easy view of the ocean. You're sitting on the porch on a cold, cloudy day, watching the tide come in, and drinking a steaming mug of strong vanilla Earl Grey. Strange incongruities. I suspect this won't be a crowd-pleaser, but it's certainly unique, and sort of beautiful IMO.

So glad to see they finally added this to Fragrantica. I had looked for this here a while ago before it was added and today a review popped up on the side of my screen. The Vanille is a perfect Vanilla for those who do not want to smell overly sweet or childish. Its a wonderful "clean girl" perfume and would work beautifully in a professional environment. The tea note is beautiful and adds both freshness and comfort to the scent. Love this!

This is my year-round perfume. Opens up very herbal on me; dries down to a very pleasant (admittedly, a little salty) floral and slightly green vanilla. I layer it in the fall and winter, typically with something like Jazz Club. Definitely gets compliments on its own. Worth noting I did buy it directly from Nette, not Sephora - the one I got from Sephora just smelled awful, like others said, mostly just a hefty dose of salt and vanilla.

As a sweet n fruity gourmand girl, I did not expect to enjoy this at all. I got it as a sample. The salty opening threw me off a little bit but I appreciate the complexity of the cardamom and turmeric. I really didn’t get any vanilla until the last hour. I will be buying this to wear on my trip to Japan. It’s not too sweet and has a Japanese tea shop vibe so I think it’s perfect for Japan.

This reminds me of a lighter duller version of ion: Bleu Turquoise by Armani Privé. I think this is more mass appealing compared to Bleu turquoise because this isn't as loud in your face.. if you like this and could have this amped up you'll love Bleu turquoise by armani prive...I find myself reaching for this more than I do Bleu on the count of it being challenging

A very special and unique vanilla. It does so much at once. The spices are earthy, yet it still smells ozonic and sweet. At first I get a hit of gentle, dry, and mildly warm spices. The cardamom is beautiful, and the salt softens the turmeric, which brings a bitterness I don't like. Once that fades away, it evolves into a sweet, classy, and airy vanilla.

I'm not sure if this scent needs to macerate or something but the sample I got from Sephora smells very flat- all I get is a hefty dose of salt with a bit of vanilla. I wish I smelled all the other bites in this or all the other things people say they smell but at least at the moment I'm not getting much from this. :(

The turmeric is stronger than expected on me and actually works well. It smells like a vanilla golden milk latte. It can be a little cloying and scratchy sometimes but most of the time is very cozy. Definitely a fall or winter perfume

to me this smells like a salty ocean and mint leaves. clean and fresh scent. the vanilla doesn’t peak through until the dry down (for me). it’s also very unisex.

Fresh, summer, vanilla, airy, skin/cozy. I enjoy this vanilla and quite a bit from Nette in general.

Wow, this is literally Zara Lily Pad

Warm, warm spicy, salty, creamy, aromatic, powdery, floral, marine, earthy, sensual, rich, cozy, unique On me this opens with a warm, salty vanilla with warm spicy notes of mate, turmeric, and cardamom. As it starts drying down I get just a whisper of florals, mainly the slightly waxy and lemony scent of the magnolia. The vanilla also becomes more prominent, warm, and sensual, and the orris comes through giving it a bit of an earthy scent. I received a sample of this along with a several others in a Sephora order, so of course I had to try it. It doesn’t really fit my personal taste, but it’s not bad, especially if you enjoy warm, spicy, and somewhat masculine feeling fragrances. To me this feels kind of unisex, but more feminine leaning. This really makes me think of fall, probably because of its warmth and its warm spicy and earthy scent. I think it would work for winter too, but it’s not really a spring or summer scent. This reminds me somewhat of Replica Autumn vibes, probably because of the prominent cardamom note. I can see why some people are reminded of JHAG Vanilla Vibes, but only because they’re both salty vanilla scents. Other than that I don’t find them similar because Vanilla Vibes isn’t spicy, is much more aquatic/marine, sweeter, and a more feminine scent. I get great perfume with The Vanille. The longevity is really good, it lasts the whole entire day on me. It projects nicely too, it radiates out at least an arm’s length from me.

This is herbal and floral on me, very "clean" smelling and fresh. I don't get much vanilla - I found myself wondering if they were referring to the vanilla orchid rather than the bean, because it is just not there on me. It doesn't smell warm or spicy, either. I tried layering it with a super warm, rich, caramel-y gourmand and it overpowered it completely and reverted the overall mixture to something so fresh and floral it's almost astringent. It's like a frigid, fancy woman's perfume. Maybe a scent for someone in a position of authority with a lot of money, but also single by choice. She doesn't mind the bluish glow of flourescent lights, has a precise hairdo, likes wearing blazers, eating salads, and going home alone.

I don’t hate this one but I am debating returning it and trying out pear jam or maybe opening night instead . This smells so much like palo Santo and fig, it’s very green , really similar to bath and body works vanilla palo santo and mason Louise Marie nouvelle vague. I want to love it but it’s just not something I will reach for. . It’s very fresh though and I can see why people are drawn to it . It’s very well made and now that I’ve tried nette , I want to try more from them .

Definitely an interesting take on a “vanilla”fragrance.... It’s funny though because I don’t smell any sort of vanilla from this in any way. It’s a true mineral/salty/spicy/woody scent. It’s hard to describe, it’s not good and it’s not bad but it is very boring and the longevity is truly horrible. This is a skin scent mixed with wet haye or like a very grassy matcha. It’s interesting to smell and test but I would not blind buy this!

I have fallen in love with this fragrance this spring. I almost got rid of it because I thought it was too similar to The Matcha by Le Labo (which I love, but didn't feel I needed another frag so similar). I put it on to give it a final try before giving up on it. It was cool and rainy out that day and I finally got the vanilla I had been missing. It's fresh, but cozy and cocooning. So, so pretty! I am so glad I kept it.

i liked the direction it was headed in when i first sprayed it onto my skin; a lightly sweetened, creamy vanilla with a herbal tea note. but as soon as i started to enjoy it i got a metallic, almost blood-esque smell for some reason??? i havent seen anyone else say they get that but it was really disgusting sadly. maybe my sephora had an expired bottle?

I’m not connecting with this one. Received a sample in a Sephora order. I really like all types of vanillas, but this is giving me playdough. I don’t get much vanilla in this. I like dry vanillas but this is too dry. There is nothing I like about this. It is so flat. Agree with the reviewer that said it smells like a balloon.

The opening is intense. The turmeric and cardamom is prominent. Not even sure why they named this one “Vanille”. This smells like I sprayed vanilla perfume on then stood in the kitchen cooking foods with spices all day. It’s not the worst fragrance ever but may be more suitable for men.

Thankfully I only got a sample of this because buying an entire bottle blind would have been a huge disappointment. All I can smell is a sharp tone, almost a citrus, and a breath of vanilla. This is NOT a bakery vanilla. It’s a hidden vanilla extract.

fresh and spicy! like a warm cup of haldi doodh on a platter with salted vanilla biscuits; the salt note comes through as it sits on my skin longer.

This is a dry masculine leaning vanilla. I can see a man wearing this to the office.

it literally smells like vanilla black pepper

I never thought I'd find s vanilla fragrance that I hate. Usually if it has prominent vanilla, I'll at least not mind it. This, however, is foul, basically a bug spray. I don't even know what exactly I'm smelling. It definitely had Kirke-style musk, which is gross (this is the note some peopleh here describe as metallic or bloody). It does have iris/orris, but it is dumbed down to its bones, like if orris air freshener existed. Overall - incoherent.

A very mature vanilla. Nothing special or out-of-the-ordinary but pretty in a generic way. I liked the scent, but it stung my nose a bit in the way that florals typically do to me. I wouldn't say this is floral at all, but if you are typically sensitive to florals, don't blind buy this one. It's been a long time since I've smelled Libre, but it gives me the same vibes I think?

On first spray, it smells like any fragrance from le labo or something. Salty and herbal, not something I would ever really want to smell. I was led to believes this was a gourmand (cardamom my beloved) but this is more of a dark floral with a muddy opening. I get almost no vanilla until it dries down, and even then its faint.

Gonna give this one a few more tries, maybe I'm just having an off day but this should be so fantastic and yet it ends up going full on bug spray. The sour smell at the start is really off putting but then disappears. I love green, unusual and salty scents but this one just clashes so hard on my skin.

I like this perfume a lot, but I already have others in my collection that smell similar - JHAG Vanilla Vibes and Mugler Alien Goddess. Very salty, aromatic vanilla. I'm not picking up much green tea. Not very sweet, the comparisons to Kilian's Princess don't resonate with me.

I do detect tea but in retrospect it smells to me like sunflower seeds, (not listed, maybe it’s the turmeric or deconstructed orris) which makes it cloying to me personally. It’s actually a very strong perfume that doesn’t fade away, but it’s not my favorite.

This doesn't smell like vanilla at all to me. It just smells like an aquatic floral scent. I have no idea what "c02 extract" smells like. Anyway, this smells very generic. There are other more memorable clean fragrances out there.

I smelled Nette’s The Vanille before a few times I enjoyed it but I finally bought the travel spray and I don’t like it anymore. The off putting smell of the mate tea is lurking in the background. I’m going to resell this.
