Patchouli Homme

I love it! but it's more than a classic patchouli and I think this name doesn't suit this scent well. I smell in it rose, patchouli, incense, wood and vanilla... When I wear it, it's like I was out of the world, far away from a modern way of life; but Patchouli pour homme is not old: it's only another dimension of time, between or beside ages... An elegant and uncommon fragrance. Two sprays a day are enough and you will feel confortable. 9 /10

A friend gave me a little rests pd this a couple of weeks ago and I love it, fresh and woodlands and almost mystical, like a visit from the man with the thistledown hair. Lasted beautifully without overpowering. But the next day, picking my shirt up to put in the laundry, eurgh! Its staleness was worse than hideous.... Moral of this story...don't wear this if you might end up at someone else's house after a successful night!

When I first tried this, in 2009 or 2010, I found it awful, disgusting, sharp and obnoxious. But today I brought out the little 30 ml bottle again- and I love it! It is a very shiny scent and patchouli is perhaps not the most adequate name for it... And I would call it unisex rather than masculine.

This stuff takes no prisoners. I'm not really a patchouli connoisseur, but if I were I'm sure I'd be in heaven. To me, as an outsider, this is a bold, brazen, very natural-smelling sharp woody scent, like Tarzan's version of Givenchy Gentleman. The sharpness is a bit dulled and sweetened on cloth in the top notes, and it seems more cedary to me. It even becomes a bit soapier and flowery after a while...I'm assuming there's a fair amount of rose in here, which makes it paradoxically very civilized and well-kempt underneath its rough exterior. The practical issue for me trying to wear it is that it's so unforgivingly strong, I'd always be afraid of overdoing it even with very careful application. Experience has also shown me that this stuff can survive several clothes-washings, and that was on a sweat shirt worn over the t-shirt where I actually applied it, not just the t-shirt itself! I don't think I even noticed the florals the first time I tried it because it was so overwhelming, so maybe I'll test it out a few more times if I can choose garments that I don't mind being forever patchoulified.

Patchouli Homme starts masculine and sweeps through a floral cascade and then gone. It gets lost in my skin very quickly. I have reapplied and await the result. 5 hours later and not a hint for the last 3.5 hours. It's a shame because I think it smells awesome.

A lot of people are not getting this fragrance. That's because they come in expecting a patchouli fragrance (and rightly so) and are disappointed. Nicolai's Patchouli Homme is an aromatic, slightly soapy interpretation of patchouli where patchouli is somewhat in the shadows. Here it's not about patchouli. It's about the blend. I get notes of lavender, rose, mild spices and woods in an incredible blend that's hard to describe. The individuals notes do not stand out and are hard to discern. Yet they manage to create many subtle nuances and dimensions that makes the fragrance feel layered, rich, and complex. It is assured, suave, sophisticated and simply smells divine. It is right up there with the best Guerlains and the best from Nicolai, and I mention it in no uncertain terms. It is not a hardcore patchouli fragrance, and hence those looking for that would be disappointed. If you're looking for a classic masculine fragrance combining the best traditions of French perfumery, this is it. Let's call it Nicolai pour Homme II, and call it a day. Fantastic sillage and longevity. 4.5/5

Warning: If you're looking for a typical head-shop patchouli, you'll have to look somewhere else. Patchouli Homme (aka as Patchouli Intense) is a very classic spicy floral with a remarkable aromatic presence. Strong, old-fashioned and solid as only some older Guerlains can be. Don't get me wrong, PH doesn't resemble of any specific Guerlain but it shares with a bunch of them, the same solid structure and an unquestionable old french perfumery vibe. Rose and bourbon are the true stars here, supported by a vanilla/patch combo that while resulting sort of restrained, it's still able to provide great consistency and boldness. Orange and cinnamon, together with bay and lavender, serve to add a spicy/aromatic facet and reinforce the overall old-fashioned mold. Strong yet smooth, classy yet not particularly easy to wear. Probably not among the most approachable fragrances around but definitely solid. Do I like it? I can't say I'm crazy about it but Patchouli Homme it's definitely something to check out if you like masculines with a remarkably classic quality. Rating: 7/10

just getting around to try this, my first impression was I should have tried to the intense version. I think this smells nice? I guess that would be the word for this fragrance. To compare I sort of get the opposite of something like Givenchy Gentleman. It has traces of patchouli in it and I pick up the sandalwood and some lavender. Overall I think it is wearable.If you are looking for something bolder I would pass on this based on my sample. however I think this could be appealing for the man that just wants use fragrance to enhance his grooming. It is a well blended scent and for that I think it would work well for a gentleman. I am big fan of New York. I think Alfarom is dead on with his review of this. I will give it a wearing for a day. Sometimes a scent will not pop your cork on the opening but overtime you can come to appreciate a fragrance more, then the love happens. I have had that happen many times. I am sort of on the fence, it is worth checking out and this is starting to win me over.. this might just be the right patchouli for me.

I’ve read in the press and can even smell in the fragrance that Patchouli Homme has notes of patchouli, rose, geranium. I don’t so much get the amber and vanilla people refer to. But for all the world, PH smells to me like getting hit in the nose. It you’ve ever been punched or smacked your nose, you might have experienced a similar smell/feeling that is like nothing else I’ve ever smelled. It feels crunchy, smells a little celery-salty, and I imagine it results from trauma to olfactory receptors and not really from aroma. But given the nature of the nose, I experience it as a scent. Patchouli Homme is this smack-in-the-nose scent and rose. I’m really working on this one and trying to find my way to it, since I trust Patricia de Nicolai’s nose more than my own and just love her work in general. But I’m not there yet. Maybe more to follow.

this is very strong stuff, well, most of the fragrances that i have purchased from luckyscents,sometimes at first smell,one would say way to strong,i have notice this with Pdn and most other fragrances from luckyscent im still learning about fragrances notes and the one thing wait for the drydown thats when you will find the true scent of great well made fragrace,colognes,scents and if you like patchouli this has a lot of that and like i said wait for the meltdown you will find mor then just the patchouli this is a awesome way for them to make this one its cool if you love patchouli check it out but this ones going to cost igot mine from luckyscents search out youcould find some whear less pricey to me worth it ,

i tested it( patchouli homme intense version ), i find that it is long lasting , it is about 12 hrs and more in the winter..it reminded me of gentleman, elegant and suave..it also reminded of the earlier era of people who talk and dress eloquently. I do love it as i love wearing New York. My wife goes gaga over the smell of it even to the extent of returning her back the time of our young days when she finds me very very attractive...

Not my cup of tea. I smell herbs, but not much Patchouly. Definitely a man's fragrance. I am glad, I only got a little tester vial.
