Suede et Safran

When my Mum was young she loved Bandit. What a great start for a story ! :) Actually, the smell from my childhood which I associate with Mum is Calèche - but her inner self, her nature was rather Bandit though. I can't say about my Mum "when she grew old" - she never did - but, anyway, I sprayed a new rendition of Bandit on her receintly - she said "A bit similar !" Sorry for this sentimental part - a perfume is not just a smell, it's an idea ! The idea behind this absolutely wonderful Nishane fragrance is "stop mourning about great vintage, look around". Here we are - since vintage Bandit smells of whatever now, modern Bandit smells of anything a little bit similar, here we come - SUEDE et SAFRAN. Suede is really suede - soft and gentle, not leather at all, like often happens with other perfumes - suede turns into leather sooner than you have a chance to really enjoy it. Saffron is quite subtle, I can hardly discern it but caraway, ginger and even coriander (secret component, not mentioned by creators) play bass guitar and drums, when the suede is the lead vocalist, of course ! I realise that some old fashioned flower bouquet is missing compared with the old Bandit but it is substituted by tantalisingly tangy spice bouquet - surprise-surprise, nowadays spice shops are places for inspiration like flower shops used to be ages before and up the 20th century. Anyway - when I send SUEDE et SAFRAN to my Mum - she said "That's the Bandit I remember !" I know, it's not the best way to describe a great perfume through comparisson to the legend, but life goes on and legends for the future are being created today, now - and no doubts - this fragrance has pretty fat chances to be one of them !

@Petrichor - you nail it. Great review btw. I second many people after digging in to the reviews in the community. I bought ambre loup by rania j off twisted Lilly and let them know if they send samples I am really in to leather scents right now and to send me their best leather samples. This was obviously one of them. My first and immediate thought was Tuscan Leather clone. Then I put it on my left hand in generous proportion. Still Tuscan Leather..then I noticed it started to get a little sweet. So I looked up the notes. Ambre tote mixed with saffron and ginger make for a real real interesting composition. It's like a floral sweetness or a super fresh sweetness. Not cloying surgar at all. I need a little more time with this fragrance as this is just a first impression. But with how much hype TL gets, I think this should at least get some attention. I got to be honest, and don't care what anyone says or if I get any balloons and I say that bc I don't like Tuscan Leather. I do like this though. It's bc of the slight sweet and fresh undertones this has. TL is too in your face and strong like. I really like this fragrance. They are both about the same price, this being a little more. It only comes in 50ml and its $230.00. If you are a fan of very high end high quality leather scents with excellent longevity and projection, you would be missing out if you didn't sample this fragrance. If you tried to like Tuscan leather but just thought it was a little to harsh or something was a little off, you have to try this. I think we got so,etching here guys. This isn't CH for men leather, this is very refined all natural high end leather.

Suede et Safran from Nishane is best discovery of this year for me. I was hesitating to buy this one for few reasons: lack of reviews and some reviews says about animalic/gasoline notes which I’m not a big fan of. I risked it and when it was available I blind bought this bottle dressed in black & gold which by the way looks incredible. For me this is hidden gem of entire Nishane collection. Secret here to make the fragrance work for you is cold weather and max 2 sprays. Juice is extremely potent, it’s nothing for beginners but it’s very well blended. It has only few but very powerful notes. Some may find first 30minutes very challenging and initial opening is very strong (I spray 30min before going out). Starts with beautiful saffron smell (to me is similar saffron they use in Colognise) coupled with Ginger. After 5minutes leathery suede sneaks into componsition and starts to play main role until end – whole artistic performance of this fragrance takes around 12 hours and on clothes lasts days. I absolutely love this fragrance and to me there’s nothing animalic I would dislike. It’s all about leather, suede, slightly medicinal saffron and bitterness that makes whole composition addictive to me and keeps me sniffing my clothes or skin where I sprayed it. This is absolutely for winter-cold weather only and silage and performance is amazing. To me is very masculine fragrance. So happy I followed my instinct and bought this gem! Well done Nishane!

It's like Ombré Leather, but smoother and less smoky. It's like Tuscan Leather, but again, smoother, and with saffron instead of raspberry. I think it's much better than both - stronger, longer lasting, and not taking prisoners trying to make it a bit more mass appealing. All the notes smell much more natural and realistic. The ambrette note reminds me of Dior Homme Intense, but these fragrances are not similar. The saffron is very potent, as strong as leather, especially for the first 5 hours. You can imagine a longer lasting, stronger and more natural Tuscan, but less Tom Ford style and much, much more oriental, natural and spicy style. Some say there's a gasoline note, I don't get that. If you hate caroway like me don't worry, I don't get that either. Presentation is great. Beautiful packaging, very, very heavy cap. I'd like a better atomizer, like the one in Toy Boy

Wow!!!! What a criminally underrated fragrance! This is hands down the best blind buy of my life. Imagine a better version of Tuscan Leather... and yes, I know what you're thinking... but that's possible! Suède et Safran smells even richer, rounder, more natural, and it lasts forever! It's also a bit "dryer" at the beginning, but it becomes creamier in the dry down. I'm completely blown away! Got a great discount on it and... oh boy, I'm so glad I pulled the trigger! If you can get it at a discounter or with a friend, don't hesitate for a minute!!! Not that unique, but one of the best fragrances I've ever smelled - although I understand it can be polarizing. You have to love saffron and suede. Definitely not for the faint of heart!

I understand why people mention Tuscan Leather, and during the first few minutes, it does remind you of it. However, the resemblance fades after a few minutes, and it takes a different direction. While this is a leather fragrance with a similar scent profile, it is certainly not a Tuscan Leather clone. I find the saffron note more prominent in this one, and the absence of raspberry, along with the presence of ginger, makes it interesting. The suede in this fragrance gives it a slight earthy vibe that stays with you throughout the experience. The performance is great, and the longevity for me is 12h+. If you like leather scents, I highly recommend Suede et Safran. If I had to choose only one, I would pick this over Tuscan Leather.

Oh sweet baby Jesus. I love this juice. It smells like gas, like literally when you walk in that gas station and you fuel your car and you get all hmmmm that smells nice !!! What’s interesting is that the people in my circle who hate this gas scent hated the perfume too, so think of it as a test before sampling/buying. Strong power on my skin but not a projection monster. Bit of a leathery sillage. Love the ambrette in here! Strong strong saffron, kilometers away from that sweet one in BR540. It’s dry, it’s mature and serious, it’s confident. I’m a 24 yrs old woman and I rock that shit lmao. I understand it is a unisex frag, but a woman can pull this ! Gourmand and floral lovers, consider abstaining !

I thought I had been whacked by a sledgehammer at first whiff. It has a heavy, dark and serious scent, with leather being prominent. Ever been horseback riding on a Western saddle? Minutes later, the other notes start coming through, and you end up with the same darkness, but a more spicy and very pleasant scent. Best for autumn and winter but may be too heavy for the summer, unless you are in an air conditioned room. Wear it in the evening, perhaps to a formal gathering, and everyone WILL regard you with respectful curiosity. It can also be used to tone down floral scents when you layer it with Nishane’s Tuberoza or Hundred Silent Ways. A great buy! Rating: 8.5/10

what a great scent this is. It is also one of my favourites. It has something elegant. At the beginning I smell something fresh, similar to cucumber scent in a good way. I smell also the safran en leather pretty good too and after an hour it also starts to get a bit smoky and it gets better and better. Drydown is a real masterclass, fresh, creamy, leather and a bit deliciously smoky. Too me is just like the notes are in harmony with each other and dancing around me.... classy and high quality

LOVE THIS. very smooth and complex suede composition. Extremely classy. Unlike a lot of suede accords that end up to me just smelling like new shoes, this smells like perfume. I absolutely love this in and of itself, but the likeness to Tuscan leather is unmistakable, minus the raspberry, but much MUCH better. This is like pure Colombian to Tuscan Leather’s fentanyl laced park buys. Beast performance. Get your hands on this.

I loved this one. It opened up with strong leather, and cools down a bit after a while with (on me) a cucumber-ish freshness. The leather stays on until forever and the other notes is coming up to the surface after 30 min, perfectly blended with each other. It’s so potent so it’s stays on the whole night/day. If you’re in to leathery scents, this is a must to try :)

Just got this and I'm in love. I have Ombre Leather and PdM Godolphin i love both of them I have not smelled Tom ford TL but every one says this smells just tike it. This is very smooth more leather than Suede It pumps out some for sure. I love Nishane this make 15 fragances I have from them so far will be adding a lot more to the collection.

Suede et safran as many others are saying is a more pleasant Ombre leather/Tuscan leather scent just like godolphin. Or at least to my nose. Although this scent lasts longer than godolphin on my skin. So if you have PDM Godolphin at home i would not consider buying this. Overall great scent with a heavy leather tone and greenish notes to it.

Dare I say gourmand leather? That's right folks, I said it. No but this is really spicy with the whole saffron situation. You'll find the leather when you look for it, but it's a mature take on it. TFOL seems a bit sweeter in comparison and not as hit-you-in-the-face as Suede Safran. I've come to like this alot.

A fragrance worthy of wearing on summer nights and on winter days. Clean, fresh, subtle, yet remains deep and complex. I can see myself (and a man or a woman in their 30's and 40's) wearing this on special occasions even tho it would also make an excellent office fragrance. It's a 9/10 from me.

Beautiful fragrance. But to my nose this is almost identical to Montale's Aoud leather. Aoud leather was released 6 years before SES. And it's half the price for 100 ml. If money is not a problem for you I'd cop me a bottle of SES. Otherwise Aoud leather is a great, less expensive alternative.

Muskier, reacher, and smoother version of TL with better performance and quality. Has more saffron note and less berry sweetness. A suede note is softer than the rugged leather note in TL. Beast mode fragrance, good for winter and colder times of the year. Blind buy safe for leather lovers.

Leather and suede with a very gentle sweetness. Good mix of spice from the saffron. Projection is good but the longevity is insane. Sprayed this on a shirt I was wearing and smelled it two days later when I put it in the laundry. Great stuff if you’re a leather lover.

Outstanding performance I am in love with Nishane, I am picky and this lives up to my taste, I love their unique scents and absolutely beast mode with great longevity, they cracked and the code and yes this one suede et saffron is a winter fragrance ❤️

BEAST MODE ENGAGED. This is very much Tucson Leather.....but better in every way. I love the Ambrette note in here, this isn’t close enough to be a dupe but it’s certainly inspired by TL. Performance is absurd. Among the most nuclear of fragrances.

Please don’t buy Tuscan leather This one is the best alternative and all you need is a 50ml to last for a looong time Since the longevity is nuclear with moderate projection Nishane is a new top 10 niche houses for me

If you need evidence of how far AI has to go before it’s universally accepted, read through the cons. This juice is special. I find this has a greener side (moss, tea, pine). No issue with that. Like I said, special.

Strong saffron, leathery musky dry down. Not that similar to Tuscan leather or Ombre leather imo. Not redundant to own all three. A nuke as well. Mostly a night or formal wear for me. 9/10

Ombre leather its for boys this fragrance its for men mush saffron and leather are the dominated notes for this i love that one its the fragrance should a bad guy wear

When i want to buy a few more perfumes like "Tuscan Leather", "Ombre Leather" or "Cuoium" - I pick my decant of Suede et Safran from the shelf and save my money :D

Pretty nice if I am being honest. It reminds me of ombre leather/ Tuscan leather, but cleaner and more white-clean-musky base. 9.2/10 imo.

Powerful leather and saffron with some sweetness. It's very similar to Tom Fords leather fragrances as everyone has said. I have Ombré Leather and Siené by Tiziana Terenzi so for me it's redundant. If you were considering buying Tuscan Leather, you should probably go for this. It's a nice leather but to me it doesn't smell tremendously expensive. Update: Sampling again. This has a very green, bitter facet that smells like lawn clippings and Yerba Mate tea. It is also earthy in a way that smells like straight up soil/dirt and a bit metallic/ozonic. It's kind of fascinating honestly as I'm so used to Tom Ford. That leather is there but then it has that wet green bitter aspect that something like Ombre Leather just doesn't have. Siené has a lot of greenness to it because of the cypress and I love that one because it's a great dressed down version of the DNA. This Suede et Safran has a clear metallic watery earthy thing going on that smells a bit like gardening in the rain with a brand new steel trowel. It takes over to an extent that the entire vibe becomes this cool metallic green watery thing. I don't know what to make of it fully yet. I like that it's different. I'm fascinated by it.

Dry and a bit sour - evidently reminiscent of the various versions of TF Ombre Leather, as others have noted, but not identical to any, IMO. S&S goes heavier on the saffron, but pretty much omits any fruit, floral, or spice aspects, as well as the amber/labdanum base that would provide the characteristic TF throw and stick. Layering with a base heavy amber like TF Amber Absolute, or more readily available alternative Alexandria Ancient Amber, boosts the scent profile and performance to near comparability with original TFOL16. I don't think S&S is at all similar to TF Tuscan Leather, but I have never found TL and OL to be much alike either. Overall, I'd say S&S is better than a bad OL clone, but not as satisfying as a good one (e.g. Perfume Parlour, QFO).

Well, this one makes a statement in its silage, that’s for sure. It opens on a very OL/TL note. To me after that it departs and heads it’s own way. My wife says that it’s a great suede trail she picks up. My nose picks up a strange asphalt scent however no one agrees with me on that. That’s not to say it’s a rough tar kind of smell but more like suede close by a fire kind of smell. That doesn’t last long though, it then fines out and has a very pleasant ginger and musk combination that lasts and lasts. I came across this looking for another good suede or leather scent and this doesn’t disappoint, but it’s not one I would wear on a bus or to work!

Nishane’s Suede et Safran is nearly identical to Parfums de Marly’s Godolphin, at least to my nose. It has that same super sweet and green quality that I found with Godolphin, although I would say this is definitely much better, as it has the same projection and performance, but with the added longevity of an extrait de parfum. As for how it compares to Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, it reminds me of the older, sweeter formulations (specific batch I was able to compare with was C53 from 2013). I like it, but it’s nothing new or exciting, would be worth buying if you wanted an upgraded version of Godolphin at a lower price.

Suede et Safran Nishane is my first Nishane perfume. I like it, but it seems a bit overpriced. I find some similarity with the Velvet Oud Lattafa perfume, which is 10 times cheaper. This is likely due to the similarity of this Lattafa to the Tuscan Leather Tom Ford, to which the Suede et Safran Nishane in question is compared. I also find a slight resemblance to Qaa'ed Lattafa, also a cheap perfume with a scent of leather and saffron. Anyway, I got the Suede et Safran Nishane on a very good sale and the price I paid is significantly lower than its recommended price. I am very pleased. Overall rating 7.5/10

If you removed the raspberry from TF Tuscan Leather and amped up the saffron, you'd have Suede et Safran. A very good twist of the original for a fraction of the cost, and its longevity is better. More leather than suede in the drydown, this smells like a well-oiled leather wallet or jacket. If this is your kind of scent profile, S&S is the best you'll find at this price. Much better than La Yuqawam, better than PdM Godolphin, almost as good as Tuscan Leather.

Basically Tuscan Leather with a very slight rubbery and peppery accent mixed in, no berry. Performs very well you can smell it radiating off your skin from a distance and it lasts too. So it's good but not unique at all. If you want something along these lines and the price it goes for I don't see why you wouldn't just buy TL it's the original/classic in this style of fragrance. If you want to go a little more unique I would recommend Colonia Leather myself.

Probably my favourite from the plethora of Tuscan Leather-inspired fragrances. Lightly fruity suede, yes, but also an ozonic cucumbery touch. Muted spice and a synthetic, clean musk to round it out. I like the overall lighter note selection for this type of fragrance, while still having a hefty presence. It makes for an interesting contrast and breathes a bit of new life into an oversaturated genre of fragrance.

I tried my 2ml sample today & I like it. Longevity is 7-8 hours on my skin & while I am not sure about the projection still think the performance is strong. I am in the process of trying another 3/4 leathery scents from niche brands before buying one full bottle of the best out of all as I do not want more than one leather scent in my collection.

Lively leather base. Has the charm of a rubber tire at times. Depends on wearer and weather. Nice mix of saffron and ginger creates a spiretly musk that lifts the undertone to the middle, if that makes any sense. I like this as a niche scent that I'd almost never wear.

Amazing scent profile but it legit reminds me of La Yuqawam pour Homme. I smell them side by side and they are very similar, great scent though. Great longevity and Sillage

I am with Sandyknows. Yes, it has leather but not too similar to Tuscan Leather or Ombre Leather where it would be redundant. After several hours of wear, and I mean several, I am not sold. It is a nice fragrance but it really doesn't suit me. Seems as if I need to mature more. Possibly in 10 years. 🤣🤣 This has fantastic longevity.

As if Marilyn Manson smells like.

This smells like Montale's Aoud Leather... If you have never smelled that think Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather without the berry sweetness... I mean it smells almost identical and in a blind sniff test I was not able to tell which was which... My wife however could tell a difference and was able to identify the Nishane blindly as she found it revolting... She said that she gets a clear fecal note from the Nishane... I do not personally get that... Again I think this smells like an overpriced clone of Montale's Aoud Leather... She loves that one on me but said that the Nishane smells like you wore Aoud Leather into a bathroom... O_o; Um... Yeah... So while I again don't get that personally I will not be wearing my sample anymore and I'll sticking with my bottle of Aoud Leather instead if I want to smell like Tuscan Leather without the sweetness...

Per the Nishane website, the correct base notes are: Musk and Leather; no caraway. I've never smelled Tuscan Leather, so can't compare. Suede et Safran opened for me with a big burst of leather, even though it's not a top note. It then evolved within seconds with the leather pulling back and a green accord popping up followed by a somewhat sweet floral accord which I assume was the ambrette. Really kinda amazing how the scent evolved within about 15 seconds. Finally, the sweetness pulled back somewhat and everything started to settle down into a dry, suede type scent with the saffron. I didn't get any ginger. Longevity was very good while the projection was more average. Overall, didn't really care for it. Seemed kinda flat; not much there.

I had such high hopes for Suède et Safran, but unfortunately I was only led to disappointment. To put it simply, this is a definite riff on Tuscan Leather, which I am getting so sick of smelling at this point. It’s not a bad scent, it’s just not a scent profile I enjoy at all. The ‘suede’ note is just the same leather accord used in the Tom Ford, but instead of that sickly raspberry to pair with it, you’ve got saffron; which to be honest is almost equally as annoyingly sweet and cloying. And that’s pretty much it, that’s the whole scent. For a house as great as Nishane I expected a lot better, and definitely wasn’t expecting what is essentially a glorified clone. If you enjoy Tuscan Leather, you’ll probably enjoy this too. But I don’t.

Trully This is near Tuscan Leather by TF but with more sweetness roses saffron. It feels like watery light and kind of soft. I already dislike TL so this is a pass for me.

Im not overly impressed with this. 3ml sample sprayed 3 sprays on my wrist and there is nothing left after 2 hours.

Suede et Safran is one of two saffron-centric fragrances by Nishane nosed by Jorge Lee, the other being the wonderfully refreshing Safran Colognise. It delivers a stunning experience of the note from beginning to end. The fragrance opens with ambrette seeds, starting things on a crisp, spicy note that is accompanied by a heady burst of aromatic saffron. The experience is rich and robust - perhaps even medicinal to some - but refined. Within minutes, things start settling down as we slide into a heart of suede. Here, the spice journey continues with the zing of ginger. The suede is dry and lightly earthy, giving off a clean 'car seat' feel that reminds me of the leather accord in fragrances like Ombré Leather. This is dusted off with a faint smokiness that is irresistibly alluring. It goes on for hours! In its dry down, we move to a soft, powdery musk while saffron continues its sensual dance in the background, returning to its aromatic roots. Suede et Safran is a fragrance that opens up beautifully on the skin, forming a distinct scent bubble that projects moderately but lingers all day with beautiful sillage. A perfect scent for evenings and dressier occasions.

Chemistry. What a mystery. NIshane Suede et Safran is interesting but also not enjoyable. There’s a note or two that’s coming across sythntheic, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing but here it’s not working for me. My description of the scent profile: a saddle that has been cleaned with lemon solvent. The horsey smell coming through the base is the musk note, and the ginger note is coming across like a citrus note. Not horrible but I don’t like it. The first review below mentions Montale, another line that I can’t wear, and I would agree. There’s some similarity between the aromachemcials used here and with those blended in Montale.

This smells almost identical to la yukawam that also smells Tuscan ish!, the biggest difference is that nishanes version is the strongest Ive tested in this category, i kinda happen to love this form off sued spicy faux leather, this one brings alot off power and a smooth blend, i would choose this over most other leathers, first glance it might seem boring "Ive seen this before" but the Devil is in the details, and the blend and quality is high and gives you a long ride, not loud..but long lasting Not a good alternative to Tuscan, this smells better and more polished, makes Tuscan seem shallow and breef.

Beautifully blended fragrance...opening similar to something between Tuscan Leather and Acqua Di Parma Leather and Godolphin By Marley...Dry-down identical to Clive Christian C! Suede et Safran is not as sweet as TL(This part shows some similarities to CCC).Suede and saffaron and gignger are three bold notes which you can smell them in fragrance whole life. But i prefer much Tuscan Leather to this(Prefer TL to CCC!) Longevity and Sillage Normal and Moderate. But i dont see any creativity and character in it. Anyway not a bad choice ----------------------------------------------------- 7/10
