Fougère Nobile

Fougère Nobile is part of the unisex collection, which has as presentation pattern the metallized label, 100ml bottles and a box whose print refers to the geometric pattern of stone façades of historical palaces, churches and cathedrals, as a tribute to Liguria, land that adopted the company. This line is called I Rigati (The Stripes) and currently has six perfumes available, since Lavanda Nobile is no longer produced. Fougère Nobile was released in 2015 and had, as a creative concept, to portray the style of the gentleman of an era, more precisely, 1946. The background to the emergence of the creative concept speaks of a visit involving Umberto and his son, Vittorio, to his tailor in the city of Turin on June 11th, 1946. At the time, fabrics such as Tweed and Oxford had just arrived from London and soon became indispensable articles in the attire of the distinguished lords of high society. And it was there, in this studio, that little Vittorio saw a bottle and sprayed on his father a fragrance that, according to the tailor, symbolized the "scent of rebirth", referring to the formation of the Republic. Fougère Nobile makes you forget everything you believe you know about fougère perfumes, constructed with notes of bergamot, lavender and an oakmoss base. Here, there is a connection with tradition and present times, like the dream of a better future. That was what the tailor was talking about in naming the scent of rebirth. The fragrance features notes of lavender, bergamot, basil absolute and black pepper, which blend with notes of elemi, geranium and Aldehyde C12, on a creamy base of tobacco, vetiver, tonka bean, patchouli, sandalwood and white musk. This C12 Aldehyde is the name given to synthetic composed of a 12-carbon chain. It is more used in fine perfumery and gives volume and strength to the fragrance, even expanding its projection power. In the case of C12 (or C12 MNA) the result usually pulls towards the sweet, unlike the metallized content of C11 aldehyde, for example. On the skin, Fougère Nobile is more than a story, but a way to review concepts. There is a mixture between the green and the almondy; the balsamic and the floral; the creamy and the menthol. Although it has not presented distinct steps in my skin, it is a multifaceted and timeless perfume. Every time I wear this fragrance, I feel like it's a more current version of the classic Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934). I can feel an old school effect, nuances of fragrances that go back to the smell of barbershop, the mentholated side of the geranium, the creaminess of the tonka bean, the sugary sweetness of tobacco, etc. And everything works in a very cozy and elegant way. And the best part is: although it tries to portray the gentleman, it is not an exclusively male fragrance. Fougère Nobile portrays well the image of the one who values the family, is wise and thirsty for knowledge; has sensitivity and considers himself a genuine romantic; that man who exudes charm and does not wear conventional fragrances or those that became trend or hype.

This is a wonderful fougère I would very much love to add to my collection. The opening blast is really heavenly: the tobacco and tonka bean produce an accord that smells fruity and is at the perfect level of sweetness without seeming cloying. As the fragrance dries down, the musk and the vetiver take more of a center stage, and seem quite classy. This would be a wonderful scent to wear to the office, or on a date, or anywhere. Both beautiful and impressive. UPDATE 10/5/24: I did indeed buy a full bottle of this, and I have received many compliments when I wear this. I was once chased down out of doors by a woman who wanted to know what I was wearing because she liked the smell of this so much on the sidewalk. I've noticed there are some comments in the reviews about whether or not this is a real fougère, and I'd like to point out that this very much does qualify as what the industry calls a "new fougère" in the wake of the 2000 IFRA regulations severely restricting oakmoss. (In its place, the "new fougère" uses patchouli or vetiver, and this fragrance uses vetiver in the place of oakmoss.) What this is not is a classic fougère that's a simple freshie, which most people are used to smelling and thinking of when they hear the term "fougère." Fougère Nobile has the elements of a fougère, but added to it (to make it interesting )are some darker, dirtier notes, such as tobacco and black pepper. Whether you like the addition of these notes is something you'll have to figure out for yourself by sampling, but this absolutely IS a fougère as the perfume industry now defines the term, as the presence of the bergamot, lavender, and geranium in this attest. (And there are other tobacco-heavy fougères out there, such as Dusita's La Rhapsodie Noire--another terrific fragrance.)

Finally arrived. Completely straight forward slightly dry Lavender stem, leaves and oil. Any other notes are skilfully blended to enhance the scent - bar the tonka where a tiny smidge is detected nose to skin. This helps make it a lovely natural perfume rather than a natural oil. This (together with Aqua Nobile) appear to be like AlysonOldoini which are successful without going to a dark deep base for enhancement and longevity with sandalwood, oakmoss, patchouli etc which seems to be how everyone else would do it - it remains quite light and fresh - so any depth in darkness is a delicate addition. This can mean though it doesn’t project super well or last very long. There is definitely a scent bubble which lasts at the low end of moderate maybe four hours then it’s a nice skin scent with the tonka more prominent. The bubble is stronger than you may think but in reality this is a classic aromatic Fougere upgrade over a classic cologne or EDT - just! This would almost be an identical lighter version of Oriza Scotch Lavande which I also own. Is it then redundant? No, there are days I want this smell, mostly in summer and in winter I’d easily grab my Oriza instead. It’s high quality build if you want something and simple it might be for you.

Okay not much to say about this other than it’s a very well made, pleasant smelling fragrance with the classic combination of citrus, lavender, and coumarin, whipped into a creamy lather. It lacks a little punch or individually even compared to 1725, reflection, and certainly the Houbigant or invasion b... but the fact it’s being mentioned in reference to those I guess you know what to expect. Just to address the last commenter here, who clearly has impeccable taste don’t get me wrong, rocking Balenciaga pour Homme... but this is pretty much the epitome of what a Fougere is as it has all the elements, if a little safe and beige. I get we can broaden out the definition and perhaps even omit some parts of the Fougere make up to create Fougere adjacent fragrances but the classic definition being Houbigant’s original you have to say this is a faithful modern interpretation of an old folk song, recipe which frankly I love whether it’s a bit lack lustre like this one or a spandex upon with patchouli like the new Fougere royal or vastly modernised by the likes of Tom Ford. To say this Nobile is not a Fougere is WILD!

Update a few years in and very different review: it is truly a beauty! yes, it is softer than Fougere d argent but... it also creamier, smoother and more wearable. It does last longer than what i originally experienced. Update after wearing it a few more times over the last months: It is indeed like a detuned version of Fougere d'Argent The opening is great but it becomes very quickly a soft and nice skin scent Longevity is also limited If i were to chose, i would go with Fougere d Argent instead A classic and high quality "gentleman" scent. What i mean by that is: soft, powdery, clean, beautiful, long lasting but not mega blasting projection as those were not designed for that. This is what you can wear at the office or on a casual preppy Sunday event. The lavender and the geranium blend very well and there is a slightly sweet undertone.

Fresh green, yet deliciously musky. Gorgeous projection (yet with tastefully moderate sillage), and it lasts and lasts on both skin and clothing. Two sprays is plenty. The first fragrance I have deemed worth buying a full bottle of. I hope to find similar delights in every category of modern perfumery. Edit: It does have a bit of a musky texture, like during the first few minutes the air surrounding the spray area is a little hard to inhale?? Only noticed this with the full bottle. The final scent is so gorgeous that I barely mind.

First impression: I liked this immediately. The opening smells like rum raisins and settles into a sweet lavender and tonka with some geranium. As it goes on my skin, the tobacco becomes more apparent and stronger. Smells nothing like HDP 1725. It actually reminds me a bit of Xerjoff Naxos with rum/raisin and some earthy but refined vetiver and geranium. It's not as potent as the Xerjoff. I need to test more but so far think this is winner 🏆 Scent 8/10 Performance TBD

Again Nobile 1942 creates a small masterpiece of elegance and quality. Tobacco, lavender, vetiver and tonka bean create a delicious fougere that leaves a trail of delicious fragrance and evokes security in us and in those we meet. Persistence is excellent. Really a perfume that differs from the mass of gourmand / synthetic fragrances that has flooded the market.

Rather a sweeter, lighter version of Xerjoff Naxos. A tobacco fougere. A fougere more suited for fall and winter, like Naxos. Beautiful. Has a bit of a cola vibe. Sweet, but not too cloying IMO. ETA: Got a compliment on this from a woman at work. She said it smelled wonderful 'like a temple.'

Since I discovered Nobile 1942 I have been very satisfied with their fragrances. Fougere Nobile is no exeption, it smells delightful. The relaxing lavender with the tobacco and tonka bean. I can also smell the geranium. It is a quality fragrance, elegant and sophisticated.

For some reason I get a mix of Fougere Royal slowly transforming into Eight & Bob Egypt and I absolutely love it! Instant favourite of mine.

This really is a great fragrance. Lasts a long time too.

#975 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is the 18th decant of Nobile 1942 I've tried out and I've given passing grades to 11, now including this one. This is a likable fougere. What it has in common with the fougeres in the "reminds me of" list is it's a fougere, so it reminds you of other fougeres. They all either focus on lavender, or oakmoss, or coumarin, going for a fresh clean scent, mildly green that goes with a crisp dress shirt, silk tie, and a well-cut suit. So they're all very similar in vibe even if dissimilar in notes. I have some personal favorites in the above "reminds me of" list like Tom Ford "Fougere d'Argent" and "Beau de Jour", one I was completely indifferent to and think is a waste of money: Histories 1725 "Casanova." If Casanova actually wore that I doubt he would have the reputation he has. Powder and lavender, unisex and boring. This doesn't really smell like any of those three. The tobacco note isn't strong but it does differentiate this from the gingery Fougere d'Argent, the minty/mossy Beau de Jour and the bath powdery 1725. I'd classify this as business wear and I'd keep it to that. Clean, fresh, masculine without being pushy about it, and will offend no one. Car pool, elevator and office safe, and more accessibly priced than a Tom Ford scent. It says you belong in the executive suite, not the cubicles. It's okay, but I don't go to an office these days. Even as I write this I keep going back and forth on this one, so may or may not be a bottle buy for me.

Very nice, unique tobacco Fougere. Not a classic Fougere, barbershop or otherwise, with the tobacco combining with fougere's indespensible note - lavender. I don't compare this to Tom Ford Fougere D'Argent or MDCI Invasion Barbare, which of course they are all fougeres. I compare this to Xerjoff Naxos because of the lavender-tobacco combo and vanilla. But Fougére Nobile manifests the Fougere accord, is more herbal, less sweet. The lavender is about the same prominence on paper, but manifests more prominently in Fougere Nobile. I categorize Naxos with the other Sweet Tobacco scents - the Aramis Tobacco Reserve, Serge Lutens Chergui, A*Men Pure Havane, 18.21 Mad Made Sweet Tobacco etc, and is my favorite of that genre because of Naxos' uniqueness with the lavender and all. I categorize Fougére Nobile with my fougeres, in which it is unique with the tobacco, vanilla and all. It's not my favorite Fougere - Tom Ford Beau de Jour (barbershop), Houbigant Fougere Royale and Amouage Bracken Man (classic) are my favorites. But this unique Fougere is high in my collection. Longevity is very good too.

First impression: Nice. There's a fascinating, slightly sweeter note in here that dominates my nose. Almost licorice-y. Lookin at the notes, it's the tobacco of course. Dark, sweet tobacco leaf is what gives Fougere Nobile its character. 2nd wear: Rum raisin! That's what the tobacco smells like. This time I also notice lots of tonka, some pepper and a hint of freshness, probably from the lavender. 3rd: Finally I get the lavender and it's even strong. The nose is a weird thing. It's in the opening, then fades out again. 4th: I wanted to wear this today. I wanted that rum raisin back. To me Fougere Nobile is still mostly just that rum raisin accord along with a very high quality tonka as it dries down. Lavender opening escaped me again this time, so weird. This is a good fragrance. I think of Fougere Nobile as a light boozy spicy jazz club scent, more than a fresh fougere. Would be great for Autumn especially, day or night.

Başlangıç kısmındaki lavantanın geri çekilmesi sonrasında koku oldukça güzelleşiyor. Kalıcılık ve performansı iyi. Kullanılan tütün oldukça güzel ve tonka fasülyesi ile birlikte kararında bir tatlılıkla buluşunca daha da güzel oluyor. Oldukça rafine ve değişken yapıda bir iş diyebilirim. Açılışında lavanta önderliğinde pek de acı olmayan bir bergamot karabiber ve oldukça rutubetli bir vetiver hissettim. Sonrasında orta notalara geçmesi yaklaşık 1-2 saat sürdü. Lavantanın geri çekilmesi ile ortaya oldukça kararında bir tatlılık ile tonka fasülyesi çıktı. Bunun yanına kadifemsi bir tütün de eklenince orta notalarından itibaren bambaşka ve güzel bir koku ortaya çıktı. Lavanta olmasaydı başlangıcı da sevebilirdim. Ancak koku güzelliği ve fiyat/performans olarak kesinlikle tavsiye edebilirim.

Unfortunately I can't quite get on with this one. Something about this makes me feel queasy, it's one of the strongest fragrance openings I know and even two light sprays is too much. I think this combination of lavender, pepper and tonka doesn't work for me, after about an hour when the tobacco (one of my favorite notes) makes an appearance it helps a little but initially just adds to the cacophony, as the other notes fade it comes to the fore and it does become more bearable. Overall though, not for me. The Other Nobile 1942 scents I have work really well but you can't win them all.

Nice citrus and lavender opening. The tobacco gives it a dark touch, making it better suited for Fall and Winter. I have a few fragrances with a similar scent profile. Therefore, for me to add another fougere to my collection, it has to be outstanding or be of phenomenal value. Fougere Nobile is good not but great, and the price is reasonable but not phenomenal.

A minimalist fougere with a similarity to Prada Luna Rossa Sport. It is a creamy white musky clean fragrance with a heavy focus on vanillic coumarin/tonka. A sparkly fresh geranium sits at the top. Works quite well in my opinion, though it is very reserved and very simplistic. It mostly smells “white” with a tonka laundry musky character. 8.1/10

Very well blended 'old school' fougere. Very clean and soapy. Ideal for office, non offensive and highly wearable. Over 40s only unless as a younger guy you like this sort of thing. Often available at substantial discount if you shop around. Average to good performance. Quite similar to Rive Gauche.

As many said already this is a nice herbal fougere, lavender forward and clean but with a bit of a musky touch. Good fragrance, similar to many in the genre but the musky tobacco twist makes it its own thing.

I love barbershop fougeres so this one is easy. It's a full bottle buy for me!

Jack of all trades but master of none. Fougere Nobile is a mixture of several different fougeres: Rive Gauche, Fougere D'Argent, Fougere Royale, Milano Cento for Him, and Gravitas Pour Homme. What does that mean? I always struggle to vividly describe scents - it basically has the cardamom, smooth soft spicy feel of Gravitas Pour Homme; it has a little of the funk from Milano Cento; it has the slight talcum/shaving powder from Rive Gauche and Fougere D'Argent; and it has a bit of the drydown of Fougere Royale. The tobacco I get in this, if any, is more so the tobacco you experience in Versace Dreamer. Fougere Nobile doesn't make up its mind and go strongly in any one of these directions. In order words, you'll find that Fougere Nobile plays it safe if you're someone experienced with fougeres. I find it derivative - however, depending on the order in which you have experienced the scents I listed, you may label Fougere Nobile as the pioneer amongst them. If you're a newbie, Fougere Nobile is a good introduction into the world of well-executed and polished fougeres that make a statement even if a bold statement is not made by Fougere Nobile itself.

I was looking to sample some fougeres, and my go-to discounter had this one in stock. The notes looked appealing to me so I ordered a sample. This is decent. Not mind blowing or a must have. It does many things (for me) well, but nothing great. I was however pleasantly surprised with the stages of this fragrance, It changes throughout the wear (on my skin). The opening is sharp and masculine, not in a bad way. Lavender, and a very "green" vetiver is what I pick up. Reminding me of Beau de Jour from TF and slightly Polo green. The black pepper is also detectable, reminding me of a less floral Fougere Royal from Houbigant. I do think it gets better in the dry down, the tonka & tobacco are now the most notable accords- but the fragrance still remains mostly "refreshing". At this point, there is a strong resemblance to 1725 by Histoires de Parfums. A soft, powdery-creaminess remiscent of shaving cream. Overall, It reminds me of a lot of fragrances that I have smelled before. I saw a review on this fragrance that I think sums it up perfectly; Jack of all trades, master of none. 6.5/10

Truly, discretion is assured and measured like most offerings from this house.... Here is an ode to the traditional fern wonder with a guileless green tobacco twist that drives straight into the neo-barbershop wheelhouse. Fougère Nobile opens with a musty ‘Mediterranea’ whiff of basil in gritty black pepper, marinaded in bergamot and rounded by floral lavender, that conjures a waxy ‘anisic’ warmth that graciously is tempered by a freshened heart of aldehyde, notable green tobacco snuff, minty geranium, elemi and its citrusy pine resin, coating an elephantine top with a much prescribed zing to the accord; eventually drying down to a ‘lavanila’ of tonka shaving sheen edged in customary fixatives of vetiver, patchouli and musk... Certainly, it is a likable fragrance with quality ingredients, though scent-wise one in a familiar crowded corner that barely bends. In that regard, they are plenty within its peer group that sing the same song with presence and fluidity at a similar retail listing more or less.

After I sprayed on two pumps of Fougère Nobile this morning, my 6-year-old came over to sniff me and said, "I think you need to change your shirt; you don't smell good." I don't smoke, but I think he meant the tobacco note in Fougère Nobile was annoying to his nose. I did smell the tobacco, but it wasn't too bad. The opening lavender and bergamot were lovely but short-lived. The whole experience quickly turned into a mixture of tobacco, tonka beans, vetiver, and musk scents — kind of powdery, kind of like what Serge Lutens did in their Vetiver Oriental. In my opinion, Fougère Nobile by Nobile 1942 is not very serious about the green/herbal notes associated with traditional Fougere. I couldn't say it is good or bad; it is just a different take on Fougere with some not-so-modern twists.

Had a bottle, but in the end, and after trying many more and better fougeres, this is mediocre at best (and not really a fougere). The initial blast of lavender is aromatic and lovely, but what follows is plastic-y tonka-y sweet. Average performace overall.

It's the lavender-thing mixed with tobacco this time. It smells alright, but performance isn't good at all on me. Better choices out there.

An example of a bad fougère, if it can even be called a fougère. It gets stuck on some initial note that is suffocating and doesn’t progress further. The green aura is practically absent, so there’s no support — we remain in dull, unattractive territories. There’s no reference to newer barbershop scents, rather to older fragrances that are also poorly executed.

I don’t know what made me want to try this one; it was not for me AT ALL. Usually, when I sample a fragrance and don’t like it (particularly when it’s a more masculine scent), I give it to my husband to try. But this sample went straight in the trash.

این ادوکلن در ژانر فوژه جزء خوشبوترین و شیک ترین عطر های فوژه ای است.استفاده هنرمندانه عطار از وتیور همراه با چاشنی ای به اندازه از تنباکو و ....... در کنار رایحه اصلی و پایه ای عطر ، رایحه ای کلاسیک -مدرن ، دوست داشتنی و درعین حال ساده خلق نموده است که خوشبختانه راه خود را از مسیر تقریبا مشابه تعداد زیادی عطر های فوژه ای دیگر با قیمت ها ی کمتر و حتی مشابه کاملا مجزا می نماید. به نظر من مقایسه این ادوکلن با یک سوم تا یک چهارم قیمت با سایر سردرمداران فوژه از جمله اینویژن باربر یا تام فورد Fougère d’Argent و ... خیلی صحیح به نظر نمی رسد .فوژه نوبیل به انتخاب من یکی از گزینه های بسیار مناسب(البته با قیمت مناسب و آف خورده اگر پیدا شود و اگر نخواهید هزینه موارد بالا را بپردازید) برای هوای پاییزی، زمستانی نه چندان سرد و روزهای خنک اوایل بهار می باشد که رایحه ای دلچسب و دوست داشتنی را به مخاطب شما هدیه می کند.بویژه این عطر یک گزینه با کلاس و زیبا و مخاطب پسند برای دوستداران فوژه جهت محیط کار به عنوان Office scent می باشد. اطلاق جمله زیر به این عطر بیراه نمی باشد. I smell lavander, rosemary, woods (sandalwood/ cedar or ancient wood like wooden beams in an old house), mint, a bit of vetiver and maybe some citrus (grapefruit?). It is very elegant barbershop fougere type of fragrance. Post scriptum: I just found the cardboard label received from Jovoy Paris together with the sample. There is the official note breakdown on the back which says: top (bergamot, lavender, basil absolute, black pepper), mid (elemi, geranium, tobacco, aldehyde C12), base (vetiver, tonka bean, patchouli, sandalwood, musk). Opening is really nice, dry down is meh. Longevity is weak. It reminds me of At the Barber's (Maison Margiela).

Since YSL RIVE GAUCHE POUR HOMME got dropped, I've tried a few to find a replacement. Initially I was a bit cool on this one but it has grown on me a lot over the past few weeks. This goes on a bit sweeter but has a really nice lavender note and a subtle tobacco presence. The tonka note is quite well done too. This does not smell "just like RIVE GAUCHE" but it is a nice, similar well groomed fougere barbershop scent. A bit like a toned down 1725 CASANOVA. I really love barbershop style scents and this is a good one. Underrated.

It's a traditional fougere made with good ingredients, although something about it is a bit cloying to my nose. It might be the way the lavender, tobacco, and aldehydes (listed in the notes on Luckyscent) combine in the opening to form a very soapy, somewhat sharp accord. After the opening settles down, though, it progresses to more of a tobacco-forward mid and semi-leathery base, although leather isn't listed in the notes. If you're a fan of soapy fougeres or lavender- or tobacco-heavy fragrances, it's worth checking out.

This is a very nice aromatic fougere scent in which lavender plays the lead role followed by the tobacco. It's gentle, warm and resolutely masculine. The dry down had moderate projection and did last a few hours on me. I tried this on my skin from a sample decant and enjoyed every minute of it. On the down side however, this is clearly an 'old school' scent and while has a certain charm for itself, may not suit a more modern style. Fans of classic aromatic fougeres like YSL Rive Gache PH should give this a try.

I'm obsessed how this fragrance unfolds on my skin. The opening is very spicy and one spray is definitely enough. At first I thought that it will be too masculine but after some time the sweet peppery tobacco scent undertakes it all and the smell becomes milder. Definitely works for a sophisticated and classy woman.

It's like a tobacco sweet peppery fragrance that has geranium and a delicate sweet essence in between. very acceptable and quite gentle. Not vintage type but the modern sophisticated one.

Not like HDP 1725...maybe in the style but not the smell, to me it is a cross between YSL Rive Gauche and Jacques Bogart pour homme. Old style barbershop fragrance 7.5/10.

What a distinctive fragrance...Tobacco & Lavender, with a waft of Tonka. Genius to put the Pepper with Musk, like the weight to a balloon, like a grounded cloud, lovely.

I'm rather taken aback by the comparison to Invasion Barbare. This is child's play comparatively.
