Patchouli Nobile

I've yet to try anything from this house I didn't like. Everything they do I've yet tried is so tastefully and carefully done, and this beautiful patchouli is no exception. This is not a murky hippie-ish patchouli (which so many people dread), like Nag Champa; nor is it a dense chocolate-cake kind, like Reminiscence; nor is it even a green vegetal kind like Nicolai's Patchouli Intense. This is an elegant and beautifully mannered patchouli fragrance (yes, such a thing is possible!) that pulls out the deep richness of the note without overwhelming you, in part by adding a bit of grit with small amounts of pepper and incense and guaiac wood, but still keeping things classy and smooth overall with liberal amounts of sandalwood and cedar that dress it up. This is about the only fragrance I've tried where patchouli is the absolute dominant note but I could still imagine wearing it to the office (my co-workers have told me they appreciate my light use of fragrances, but they've warned me away from trying heavy patchouli on them, which they have bad associations with from their college days). It comes in a lovely Nobile 1942 bottle, too. UPDATE 10/19/23: I loved this so much I bought a full bottle, and my appreciation of it since receiving the latter has only deepened. This is a more chocolate patchouli then I had previously understood; this is still not as dense as the chocolate qualities of Reminiscence Patchouli, but even still, it has that quality. This is almost certainly the best patchouli-dominant fragrance I've yet experienced without any rose in it (although there are a series of great rose-patchouli scents).

When I first sprayed this on, I absolutely hated it. It smelled like a dirty fireplace to me. I was thinking OK, maybe this just isn't for me. It's more for a man. I wanted to immediately wash it off. Then I thought, wait, give it at least a bit of time....And WOW. I have never been so surprised by a fragrance ever. My first thoughts were negative, then a little less negative, then it completely won me over. For me, once the cedar/smokey notes mellowed out a bit, I got something rich and warm and sweet and feminine and LOVELY. So I literally had gone from hate to LOVE with this. It's a very sophisticated and warm fragrance, with a lovely creamy sweetness underneath. One of the other commenters, "javamdnss" said they liked to sleep in it and felt comforted by it. Yes! I can totally see that. There's something very calming about it. EDIT: I wrote the above review after only having worn it a few times. Now I must say, that I find myself reaching for this lovely fragrance constantly. It's become what I live in when I'm not too terribly bothered with "mood" or making a statement. It's just fabulous.

I appreciate good patchouli scents - the note feels cozy and warm while evoking head shops, Grateful Dead tees and dissipated weekend morning wake-and-bakes. But in a sophisticated scent the vibe is elevated, like enjoying all those things but in cashmere sweatpants. This is a patchouli scent so refined it plays against type with full-on elegance and formality. The patchouli is set in a sophisticated amber accord, with a touch of a clean masculine fougére. The labdanum adds beautiful resinous and chocolatey facets (and really any patch without labdanum is a sad thing). This is one patchouli to dress up in a suit for a formal dinner, without smelling like you just hotboxed your Tesla with the valet before being seated. I don’t think this will ever get as much hype as something like Psychèdèlique because it doesn’t hit you over the head. It oozes elegance and charm, but with subtlety, inviting someone to lean in and experience it. And ultimately what could be better than a scent inviting a special someone to get closer?

Surfing through the internet, I came across this fragrance which appeared to be interesting. I decided to make a blind purchase hoping I would like this fragrance. When I finally received this juice I tried it and I enjoyed the herbal/earthy blend with a sweet scent from patchouli. Afterwards, I enjoy the realistic aroma woodsy notes. Longevity and Silage is excellent lasting over 8hrs after spraying 2x on my skin. Finally, Noble Patchouli is very high quality fragrance! The price point is far more affordable, this is a top notch fragrance with a luxurious elegant aroma. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys patchouli with a hint of woodsy notes. 8/10...After I finish this bottle I'll definitely buy another bottle.

Ahhh, its 1977, and I went to the local drug store and bought the original Oleg Cassini by Jovan cologne for 10.00, and this smells exactly like it. Reminds me of such good times, dousing myself and heading to the club, Now I am 60 and I still love this smell, May not go the clubs as much, but it's one of the few colognes I wear to please me, although I do get a lot of compliments. It lasts all day, and into the evening. It Says lemon is a note, but I smell Patchouli and Incense the most. And no lemon. If you don't like Patchouli this may not be for you. But if you loved the 70s and the aroma of that time, snatch it up.

This is a top tier patchouli forward fragrance, as highly regarded as Pardon and Beau de Jour. Patchouli Nobile smells timeless and powerful. Many patchouli fragrances smell like a hippie head shop, but this one is classy and classical, giving it the versatility to be worn formally. It has a medium to strong silage and lasts all day. Patchouli is a more mature note but if you are 30+ you can wear this easily as a man in cooler climates. There's not much I would change about Patchouli Nobile. The patchouli is well rounded with amber and smoke accords from labdanum and incense. I think it's perfect. 😍

Patchouli Nobile is a deep, powerfull, dark and sensual oriental woody perfume. Its all about vivid smoky patchouli with warm earthy notes. It is long lasting, over 6 hours and the sillage is realy heavy. Very nice for winter, autumn and cold spring days. The most distinguished notes are vivid labdanum, vivid patchouli, sandalwood, oakmoss, jasmine, tonka bean but I do not get any lemon note. The other notes are not so strong but exist. Generally is an elegant and thrilling woody scent worth to buy. A masterpiece!!

Was the last that Mr. Stefania made me sniff, I DO NOT I LOVE PATCHOULI, and what about STUNNING FABULOUS, it is very animal, woody undergrowth, but it is on the skin that something wonderful, of course every free skin a different fragrance, but Patchouli Nobile is on my fantasctica I fell in love, it's like musk of Acampora much more complicated, it is a humid forest in the morning, you bend excavations in the leaves earth one piece of luggage ... and Patchouli that makes it all so imaginative.

For about half a year i own this fragrance and I fully enjoy it. It's masculene, quite powerfull, enduring, warm and charismatic. But unless whiskered on more than once, not overwhelming. The scent gives a feeling of heightenedness, but absolutely not in a bad manner. This is the kind of fragrence I like using when visiting a ball or teaching students at work. One to try, but let it rest for an hour on your skin before deciding.

At certain stages, this smells like a fougere with a prominent patchouli note, and I love it! I've been on a patchouli kick lately, and this is different enough from the others I have to have warranted a full bottle. It's very easy to wear, it's elegant, masculine, and I would think fairly mass pleasing. The longevity is good, and projection seems moderate. The bottle is cool too! I rate it a 9 out of 10..

This is one of my favorite Patchouly fragrances. This one is earthy and sharp, sensual and dark, thrilling and mysterious, animal and almost disturbing. An elegant, oriental woody perfume, fantastic for true patchouli lovers. Sharp orange opening and than smoky patchouli, patchouli, patchouli, musk and some other sweet scent that I can not find out what it is. Anyway..it is a fantastic perfume !!!!

I adore this! I have a few patchouli scents but when I put this on, I fell deeply in love. It's honey-ish, and has a slight meadow grass or wildflower smell to me, but mostly it's warm-delicious-I want to bathe in you-Patchouli. Many nights I wear this to bed too for comfort. When I've had a bad day, I climb into bed early with a book and this perfume. It's a bit of Heaven.

At the start, I think you get what you expect. A very nice and not overly sweet or sticky patchouli. But, then, as someone noted earlier, it becomes something much more classy, masculine and niche smelling. It keep getting wafts of myself and really liking it. It is MUCH less patchouli-esque as it sits on the skin. I like it. A lot.

I'm really enjoying this one. Lovely warm masculine patchouli based out with a bit of smoky wood and what I assume is labdanum resin. And it feels like there's a musk or something which I can feel rather than smell, in common with other fragrances of the house. It was great to get wafts of this stuff off myself during the day.

Patchouli Nobile is my favorite patchouli fragrance. It is very well blended and the patchouli is sweet and earthy at the same time. When it dries down it turns woody and I feel elegant and sophisticated. The patchouli is there throughout the day and it lasts a long time on me. I also get a LOT of compliments when I wear it.

This is a GLORIOUS patchouli. Everything that the earthy wet patchouli should be. I’m surprised people think this is more masculine. Its not, its just wet and sexy. Labdanum supporting in its wonderful earthy round full way with the citruses adding lightness and spark. So much oomph. Love this. Gorgeous bottle also.

Perfect patchouli scent for colds and fall. Its opening Intense patchouli and after secret fresh notes coming out. The best I've tried for a long time Patchouli scent. Also its one step ahead of coromandel. Scent: 9,5/10 Long: 9/10 Sillage: 8/10

Exactly as described but in a very light and low-silage way. I was looking for something a bit more loud and dark/rich/resinous. It is a great scent but just not the depth and silage that I wanted out of a patchouli.

Patchouli Nobile is part of the unisex line, which has as presentation pattern the metalized label, 100ml bottles, and a box whose print refers to the geometric pattern of stone façades of historical palaces, churches, and cathedrals, as a tribute to Liguria, land that adopted the company (unlike what is mentioned here). That’s being said, I must say that increasingly the Italian perfumery conquest me, either by the professional staff or by the naturalness of their products. For decades, France has the reputation of having and producing the best perfumes in the world. I think this statement no longer portrays the world scene, with excellent perfumes of Arab origin, Italian, Brazilian, etc. Its output notes are citrus notes, white pepper, and frankincense; in the heart were added notes of Guaiac wood, cistus - a plant found near the Mediterranean - from which is obtained the labdanum, jasmine, and the patchouli, which is the big star in this composition. At the base, Moroccan cedar, amber, and notes of patchouli, again. The result is a mildly incensed aroma, which evolves on the skin in a smoky way (thanks to the labdanum and the Guaiac wood) and that brings a type of patchouli that is neither very earthy nor bitter. I believe that the presence of amber, in its base, helps the fragrance to be creamier and therefore some people may feel a similar content with chocolate. The projection is not absurd, but it's not shy also. The lasting is very good, considering a product with natural content and elegance typical of Italian perfumes. For anyone who likes patchouli fragrances, this one deserves to be known.

#1030 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I was skeptical. Still traumatized by experiences of my youth with patchouli-wearing hippie chicks. But it's always nice to find something I don't already have on the shelf. The closest I have are V Canto "Mea Culpa" and Givenchy "Gentlemen Intense" but this is different from those, though not enough that I'm definitely in for a bottle right this minute. I was not sure how I felt in the opening when the lemon note was more prominent and it came off like O Boticario "Malbec", which if they had an EDP version I'd still own, but it's the day after Christmas as I write this, so I am not looking to buy another citrus forward scent anyway. But in five minutes that lemon was out of the way, as it often is, and this became a warmer, woodier experience with a nice, but not churchy hint of incense (seems pointless to have added the lemon note in the first place since it's all but indetectable five minutes into the scent). This is car pool, elevator and small office safe. Arm's length projection for a couple of hours. Makes it to lunch and beyond on the skin. Business appropriate without being stuffy. Fine for casual use, more for fall and winter I think. The only place I've been this morning was a packed coffee shop and didn't see anyone I knew so I can't speak for any reaction from those around me as I got none. The longer I wear it the more I like this, just not sure if I like it enough. I need to try it out on some female acquaintances and get their reaction before deciding.

This is a bold, unapologetic patchouli which doesn't shy away from the earthier aspects. I am a little dubious of its being worthy of the poetic associations above, because it seems to be only a few shades away from the scent of pure patchouli oil. It is only complex in the sense that patchouli itself is a complex scent. Compared to straight patchouli oil, it is a bit softer, probably due to the labdanum and traditional oriental notes. Rather than attempting to be a perfume composition, it reminds me of the type of thing that SantaMaria Novella aims to be, bringing out the essence of the note. However, that's not a bad thing, plenty of us might just want to revel in the essence of patchouli sometimes, in a slightly refined format. As such it isn't overpriced. This is a great fragrance to demonstrate that masculine/feminine labels are often pretty pointless. How could you say that a bold patchouli is either masculine or feminine when it is used in so many compositions marketed to both sexes? It would be like saying the color green has an appropriate gender. But it will be percieved as masculine because even more adorned patchoulis than this usually are.

Nobile 1942 Patchouli is the best of the bunch that my friend sent me. I really like this fragrance but again it is to masculine for me to wear. What makes this patchouli so wearable in my opinion is there is just more notes, so the focus isn't totally on patchouli. The lemon brings light, and patchouli for it to work for me needs light and some freshness. The labdanum (a note I adore) brings richness and a subtle sweetness to the composition. The sandalwood, cedar wood give dimension and more depth to this fragrance. This perfume is not a dirty patchouli but a classy fresh, woody, slightly sweet slightly smoky patchouli that is very wearable. A nice date night fragrance for any man.

Nothing super special but overall nice. This is a rather routine, non-complex, linear patchouli fragrance with an earthy woody woody woody landing. Patchouli blended nicely with frankincense, gaiac wood, amber, sandalwood, oak moss and many other earthy elements & notes. The multiple blended notes make this patchouli subtler and much more sophisticated than patchouli essential oil (or essential oil blends) and other straight-forward patchouli perfumes on the market. Not your head-shop patchouli by any means. Not a dirty, thick, or heavily resinous patchouli fragrance. Tends to lean masculine on me. A likable fragrance for the patchouli lovers.

In most other patchouli fragrances I've tried there tends to be some aspect that makes them at least a little bit of a challenge to wear. Whether it's the quality of the patchouli itself or how the other notes factor in, but here nothing stuck out at me in a displeasing way. Not one thing. The unanimous praise for this fragrance is perhaps in part because it's hard to find a fault with it. It's sweet, warm, well rounded, satisfying and easy to wear.

I like this offering from Nobile 1942. File this under an easy to wear patchouli, that in mild summer weather, fades quickly. I don’t get head-shop vibes from Patchouli Nobile, though it is definitely patch dominant. Not sure why this is for “men”, in fact it leans feminine as it’s on the sweeter side v. dry. I am curious to try 100 Bon mentioned in the review directly below mine. My favorite patchouli continues to be Jovoy’s Psychadelique.

This is a rich, earthy patchouli. It’s like if the earth beneath us was actually dark, moist fruit cake. It’s crumbled wedding cake against my skin with raisins, sultanas, Muscovado sugar, mixed spice and brandy that’s sprinkled with patchouli leaves and warm summer soil. I feel like I’m eating buttered malt loaf, garnished with herbaceous patchouli leaves in the potting shed. It’s very nice and a close competitor to ‘Psychedelique’.

Dry smokey patchouli. Masculine-leaning. Moderate sillage and longevity. There is an aromachemical woody note that bothers me in the beginning but then becomes a very nice patchouli fougere.

Initially, I thought this was a somewhat basic patchouli, and a failed blind buy, although I have come to appreciate it more and more. I splashed proper cash on this, based on the reviews below - so this is designed as a (edit:a minor) corrective to those reviews, so potential purchasers can see a range of views. The first half hour, it is a deep, wet, earthy patchouli, with a lot of the 'stable block' going on. Anyone familiar with the heady, majestic, potent mixture of heat, horse, hay, piss, shit, leather and wood of a really vibrant stable (that is far from unappealing), will recognise what this is doing. It is warm, deep, organic, wet, powerful. If you like that, you're in luck. Then... it just plays out this strong, earthy, wet patchouli. It is almost identical to 100 Bon Labdanum et Pur Patchouli. It lasts longer than 100 Bon, but then the 100 Bon range uses only natural ingredients and costs a lot less. 100 Bon Labdanum et Pur Patchouli got an average score of 3.6ish, vs 4.2 ish for the Nobile. This is because they operate in different worlds and at different price points, with different types of buyers. This does perform much better than the 100Bon, however. Ultimately, it was... something of a disappointment. I wanted something more to go along with it. Nevertheless, the organic, deep stableblock has given me some pleasure.

You can't miss the patchouli in this one. A little scratchy. -

Waaaaaay too much incense, reminds of those school trips you’d go on to those little villages that are a representation of living in the victorian era, and they’d always have a church that smelt super heavily of incense on a really hot day. As it dries down it gets less in-your-face with the crazy heavy incense and labdanum but it still has an underlying barnyard/hot, old church smell. The patchouli is present and for me personally, it’s the only thing saving this fragrance by a tiny bit. Thank god I bought a sample, this is not for me.

Strange, sour opening that smells like scotch whiskey and blue cheese. It improves slightly as it dries but there’s nothing pleasing about it.

This scent stands out from other patchouli-centric scents, not by virtue of some conspicuous originality, but just by the fact that it’s a damn good patchouli fragrance. It opens with an earthy patchouli tallied by a labdanum that’s sweetened by trace amounts of maltol. It’s rich and substantive, coming across as both boozy and balsamic but with a refined edge to keep it from going too Woodstock. Within thirty minutes, it becomes deliciously dank and the earthy quality is cranked up into a way that nods toward vintage chypres while hitting some melancholic forest floor strides. As contemplative as it is crabby, Patchouli Nobile is darker, moody take on the genre. It flagrantly merges poignancy with refinement, and the result is a scent that’s tense yet transitional. While the volume is civilized, nobody would doubt that you’re wearing a patchouli fragrance, so an affinity for the note is essential. This is a remarkable, highly resinous patchouli that deserves more credit than it gets.

Nobile is a lovely cold weather patchouli. It's warm & rich - I think it's very good quality. In the top notes there's a hint of something that gives a little bit of a creme brulee or thick sweet "custardy"" effect to me (I think it must be the tonka). Then just when I start to think "well this is very nice, but do I really want to smell like a dessert?", it suddenly changes gear & gets darker & much less sweet. As it dries down. I think I can smell a little clove there in the later stages, although it's not listed. PN isn't a linear perfume, it's interesting & evolves nicely & (imo) successfully showcases the many facets of patchouli. It smells good at all stages, & I particularly like the mid & base notes. I feel like it's going to take me several more wearings to really get to know this one. Longevity is excellent, I spray before bed & can still smell it in the morning. I like PN a lot - it's a keeper for me :)

This one backed up and the back up is better than the one that mesmerized me, though they’re both the old bottles. And you need to get the older bottles (the one that has broader shoulders). Iridescent golden patch. Il Profvmo patch has a lot more vanillin sweetness and perhaps more changes, though they end up in a similar dusky patchouli hum. But this one starts so well in addition to its durable dry down (some synthetics jut out but you won’t need to spray a lot so it’s easiky managed). That beginning is a golden shimmering corona of patch. I also love vintage Etro patch, but that’s an at home one for me, just becuse i induces sensations of intimacy for me. But this one has a gregariousness. And it’s indisputably my primary patch centric fragrance.

Finally, the Patchouli I've been searching for! This is what comes to mind when one thinks of an archetypal patch. scent.... it's warm, earthy a little smokey, subltley ambered and slightly sweet, enough to be inviting. As others have mentioned, you should be a patch. fan to truely enjoy this, but if you aren't and you like woodsy, deep, and incense fragrances this is a must try. Best to sample first though, just to be sure.... A cold winters night, by a fire place, all snuggled up with that special someone, this is the one to wear!

This is a nicely done woody-patchouli scent which is more unisex than masculine to my nose. The patchouli has it's presence but the scent overall is well balanced and rounded. The character of the scent is warm and reserved. I tried this on my skin from a sample decant. Since patchouli is one of my favorite notes, I was not surprised to find that I enjoy the smell. On the down side however, I should add that the scent is decidedly 'old school' and will not suit a more modern style.

This perfume is probably the most unusual of any I've experienced. On me, it starts as a distinct patchouli (reminiscent of Molinard Patchouli Intense) but after a short while I can smell an old room, packed with dusty furniture and old, musty objects. It is absolutely fascinating - and maybe not for the faint-hearted! Love it.

Wet, wet mud. Trampled grass. A little bit of rotting wood, like a barn. I love it. It's complex but also a little one note after it dries down. I layer it with other fragrances to enhance the base. Wouldn't recommend on its own unless you love patchouli, but it stands on it's own. 8/10.

An airy patchouli for spring & summer. It has the chocolatey & the subtle smokey touches too, but it's different from most of the ones in that combo. Soft & easy to wear, it's a comfort scent for me, when not to wear something heavy. IG : @scentclouds YouTube : @scentclouds

this is pulling out with a blue cheese smell on my skin :/ That sort of akrid, smokey, fermenting smell. I'm not getting the woody, soil, dense rich type patchouli here. Glad I tried this legend but for my skin its a pass.

Not really a review but something I noticed. The patchouli here is very similar to the patchouli used in patch based scents from Smell Bent, like hungry hungry hippies and winter of love.
