Shamal

Well, this is a little oddball isn't it? I wanted to try it since I already have Rudis and Malia, both excellent perfumes. And though I'm not a bottle and packaging fetishist, how can you not fall in love with these bottles and boxes? My first impression spraying my sample after a few minutes is certainly not unpleasant but unlike anything I've smelled before. The sweetness of dried dates or figs mingled with something sharper that has to be the smoke but could also be taken for a leather note. Something else too, like a pleasant smell wafting from an old cupboard or chest. It's not jarring, if I smelled it somewhere it would leave me wondering: what is that? I might really come to like this one, but oh my wallet in that case... My two others were purchased when our niche perfumery closed, so not as harmful for my funds :0) Also in there: something of the sea on a cool breeze mingled with the previously mentioned exoticness. Very strange, but I do like it! Edit: In the meantime I own a full bottle and a backup that arrived yesterday as it was selling for a ridiculous price. I'm hooked by now and it's a solid love. It's still one of the oddest perfumes I own, but a beautiful thing. It reminds me of the desert and brings the Tuareg to mind. Something in it says indigo blue just like the color of the veils they're wearing. And if you were to tell me this is a perfume from 2000 years ago I could easily believe it. The inside of a pirateship filled with exotic wooden chests with countless perfumed riches inside is also an image coming to mind. Perfume has to make you dream, this one delivers.

When I spray it, I clearly smell very sweet dates and a fruity accord—but not apple. There’s also something smoky and dry, with a hint of soapiness. Imagine being lost in the middle of the desert, exhausted and longing for water. Suddenly, you spot a structure made of sticks, wood, and carpets in an oriental style. You walk inside and find an Arab man, smoking so heavily that you can barely see through the haze. He sells Eastern delights—from sweet dried fruits (dates) to cigars and alcohol. That’s what this perfume captures in a bottle—Shamal by Nobile 1942.

This is a very unique frag. This scent reminds me of something from childhood, I have no idea what exactly (!), maybe some velvet-amber things. I would not say there is a dominant apple or intense. It starts with good dates -amber notes smoothly go into a velvet vibe, then some intense green apples appear. It is a really interesting and well-balanced mix, unisex. I consider to get a full bottle and I think it is a blind-safe buy for most. BTW Rudis red bottle of Nobile 1942 is kinda same DNA but a beautifully fruity one. I would get both!

As a fan of all things Nobile 1942, I bought this one blind, and I'm sad to say that I regret it. It was impersonal and wrong on me. Don't get me wrong - it isn't *bad* - with Nobile 1942 I've found that even if you don't like something, it will certainly be made well - but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Also it completely disappeared on me. This happens, right? The main notes that I smelled before it "disappeared" were apple, smoke, wood and pepper - definitely not "perfumey" enough for my liking. So it's going to make a really lovely gift for my mother in law who I think will like it very much. To me (and again, I could be wrong!) it had more of a subtle cologne quality. A bit too woodsy for my tastes, but suited for a quieter disposition, I think. Also I think this would be very nice on a man. I'm looking forward to reading other people's reviews of this. Update: I just layered it with Nobile 1942 Chypre and the combination is out-of-this-world divine. Mother in law might not be getting this after all. ;)
