Blue Velvet

I have a sample of this, and at first I wasn’t sure how I felt, it’s very different from any perfume I’d normally choose. The oud and rose are surprisingly so compatible. It’s feminine but not girly. The soft earthiness and floral scent with a slight warmth of the vanilla in the background just grew on me through the night and developed into a beautiful, comforting, enjoyable scent. I was complimented by a variety of ages of women from 17, 28, and 42, so it seems to be ageless in its appeal. Amazing projection and it lasts! I believe it really only requires 2 or 3 sprays. I could smell it on the vest I was wearing several days later after hanging in my closet.

Masterpiece! Last for three days on my linen dress , biggest head turner and beast mode. Go easy one spray! 2 max very rich smell...warm and powdery, ultra feminine but can go unisex on a confident man. Warm comforting powdery mix of delicious elegance. Not a gourmand. Just very rich. Best for cold weather. This fragrance must be respected and wore correctly to be enjoyed. It’s a true work of art.

I don't get ANY rose from this fragrance. Smells strongly of incense sticks. It's not unpleasant but it's certainly not floral.

Blue Velvet is another rose&oud combo, but this is a style of fragrance I continue to enjoy even if it's fairly played out. It begins with an almost musky oud. It's clean, not funky, and it's fresh. Upon first blast I truly believed this was more masculine, but it settles as the rose begins to emerge more (who cares, wear what you like regardless of gender). It's a peppery rose, dry and rather Arabian in nature. It's fairly predictable, yes, but I think it's pretty. Too bad people feel the need to call this "grandma/old", as if rose and oud aren't deeply traditional smells that predated their own grandparents and will endure until we're all grandparents ourselves and beyond 😆🙃

To me, this smells like violet and rose sherbet. I don’t get a lot of oud. I think it’s a great scent but not really my typical profile. I wouldn’t choose it over many of my other perfumes. I got this as part of the Oakcha discovery set and I’m glad it’s included but I wouldn’t buy a full bottle.

lovely perfume, sad to see many people dislike it :( it is a very sophisticated scent, and yes it is more on the grandma side (not always a bad thing) it reminds me of insence and bouquets at first and it settles into a more powdery rose.

I get more violet than rose, and more rose than oud--throw in some clean white musks to turn this into a real powder bomb, et voilà: Blue Velvet. Testing in honor of the divine David Lynch, may he rest in eternal blue velvet.

If you like rose, it's going to slap you lovingly in the face, a little bit like Lush's Rose Jam. Once the rose settles down, it's a nice vanilla oudy scent that lingers softly for a while. Use sparingly, it's not subtle.

I got this sample in the Oakcha Discovery Set. It is inspired by MFK's Oud Satin Mood, however, I have never smelled the original so this review will be strictly on the merits of this perfume and not on how well it dupes MFK's scent. First impression of notes: Immediately smells powdery. There is a slight rubbery/synthetic smell coming through that I don't care for. No overtly rose smell, per se, but maybe a "mature" smell that gives the impression of rose, but there is certainly a generalized floral note. Definitely an ambery note, but I can't seem to focus in on any of the other notes that are supposed to be there--like violet or vanilla. The dry-down doesn't change much except that rubbery smell I got with the initial spray went away and perhaps it is a bit sweeter. Here is where it gets a little hard for me. While the scent of this perfume is nothing special and nothing I want to wear, necessarily, there is a certain nostalgia that I feel when I wear it that is not unpleasant. For context, when I was a young girl (in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s), my grandma sold Avon. The smell of her house was makeup and perfume and I loved it. That memory is exactly what this perfume brings to mind. Throughout the day (because this fragrance is long lasting), I would catch a whiff of myself, and get a happy, nostalgic feeling. It's weird, because it doesn't give me feelings of sexy, or playful, or confident, or any of the other things I might want to feel when wearing a perfume, but instead, I get a happy, I-miss-my-grandma-and-being-at-her-house feeling. I hope that makes sense. Like others, I don't love, but I also don't think it's for me. Unlike other reviewers, I think this scent is overwhelmingly feminine, but that might have to do with the memories it evokes in me and less about the actual scent profile. Overall, I'm glad to have experienced this scent, but I don't think I'll be purchasing a whole bottle.

I’m not the biggest fan of oud and I especially dislike rose, so I was pretty positive that I wouldn’t like this, but I decided to give it a shot regardless. The rose and the oud are just way too much for me. If you like both of those notes, you’ll probably like this, but it unfortunately reminds me of an old lady. It has strong sillage and lasts all day. Saw that this was compared to SDJ ‘59 but I highly disagree. SDJ ‘59 is a powdery and lightly floral vanilla with no oud or rose.

Super intense opening with a strong powdery rose. A scent that I can only describe as elderly, generic, strong bar soap, think a white bar of body soap. It dries down to a pretty strong oud, but is still powdery overall. Have smelled the original, and they are both so obnoxious I can't stand to tell them apart.

High quality fragrance- received this in the sample pack. The rose oud combo is strong! Decently balanced and lasts forever. I am not a rose girl so passed this along to someone else. Supposedly inspired by MFK's Oud Satin Mood but I have not sniffed the OG to say if this is close or not.

medicinal, wayyy too powdery, not good enough.

Typically I like powdery notes, but that is all I'm getting from this perfume. It smells exactly like expired sunscreen. I'm not really able to identify any of the notes that are supposed to be in it. Maybe a very stale, very artificial rose smell. Not like smelling an actual flower at all. This might be a case of my skin chemistry being weird, but there's just nothing good about this. Unfortunately, it's strong so I'm probably stuck with it for a while.

Very rose/powder forward. Take this as you will but it reminded of my 97 year old great-grandma. It is incredibly strong and has a lot of longevity. If I liked this scent that would be great but I couldn’t stand it. Someone asked what smelled bad while passing my doorway, it was me (thanks to this perfume). It’s definitely NOT a compliment getter. After a few hours wearing it I had to shower because I couldn’t stand the scent any longer.

At first I didn't like the smell: very suffocating. Then it opened up and became interesting. And then I felt sick, I wanted to throw up. I'm very sorry, because in the second stage it was very interesting.

dry, rose bomb. terrible if you wear this you are 80 years old

I must own 200 bottles of classic perfumes. I recently discovered Oakcha and can't stop ordering from them. After 13 bottles, I am often disappointed but this Blue Velvet attracts me and I think it is the best I got from them. The first evening I wore it, as soon as I arrived to the restaurant I got compliments from the 20 ish hostess. I was surprised since this fragrance could be in an "old lady " super powdery family but it worked its magic. I am a lover of powdery violet-iris combos and that is probably the reason I can't stop coming back to it. I dream of having a bottle of Misia by Chanel, can't resolve myself to spend so much on only one bottle, in the meantime I wear Insolence edp and edt, Kenzo, Narciso Rodriguez white bottle and this Blue Velvet. The following morning, my clothes still smelled baby powder heavily, I love it! It does not have much depth, blast of flowers at the beginning but wearing it, you fell like in a cocoon of...Blue Velvet.

In fairness to this fragrance, I am undoubtedly not the target audience and my thoughts will reflect that. As many other reviewers here, I also received this in a 2ml from Oakcha’s OG Discovery Set. This is not a sample I would have selected on my own if Oakcha’s sampling was more flexible and/or if I knew BV’s note breakdown. On the whole, powdery-forward events make me nauseous, particularly violet notes. I did a paper strip test spray before looking at the notes here. I immediately got powder but specifically an old-school baby powder. From beginning to linear end all I got was a sharp, but not entirely unpleasant, powder. Thankfully this doesn’t make my tummy flip (in a bad way), but I won’t finish the 2ml sample.

I got a sample size of this from their Discovery Set and this is one I really just don't like. It smells like straight up old man powder on me. I don't get any of the other floral, amber, vanilla notes.

Got this for my boyfriend because he kinda likes to smell sweet and feminine. I enjoy powdery smells, but this is a little over powering. It’s not bad once it wears down a little.
