Naked Dance

To me, this perfume is certainly ricey in the best way possible! I was actually shocked to see it as a middle note rather than a top note because it hits me almost immediately -- an earthy, musky, rice that dries down into your typical white musk. This could also be due to my bias of rice perfumes; I've been obsessed with the note to the point that my nose identifies and searches for it in any applicable perfume (I also have yet to train my nose to identify a "clay" note, so I'm not really catching that here). I'd say it's very close to, yet more complex than, White Rice by d'Annam (with lack of sweetness), but again, that could be my bias. Very delightful overall, and got many compliments while wearing it yesterday, although I did add additional layers of oils/other perfumes. This very well may become apart of my normal collection - I'd love to get my hands on a bottle! Update: Wearing Naked Dance again today and I definitely smell the Clay this time around. I suppose it might've been because I sprayed it into my hair rather than on my skin, so I'd imagine there's some different chemistry going on here. I just had to dip into my brain archive to remember the aromas I smell when in a pottery shop or when constructing with clay -- it is very wet clay like, but in a quite sultry way. In a "Naked" way. I feel that I pass and seduce others while simultaneously confusing or intriguing them -- unconventionally seductive. Same day update (for prev. update): I just keep coming back because this fragrance has me in awe. The dry-down is beautiful, I'm getting a delicious, almost sweet? sandalwood that I keep getting whiffs of as I move. Absolutely incredible!!!

“Lover, won’t you come over?” I’m enamored of this musky, papery skin scent. It has some notes that are L’Eau Papier beat for beat, but with a fresh and fragrant fatty-powdery soapiness from starchy rice, soft iris, and sunny orange blossom. It kisses your skin and dances into your heart. I could not resist a full size bottle after my two ml decant — it was the only thing I wanted to wear for the two days I waited. It feels like yearning — dust floating through shafts of light stricken across your eyes, irises aglow with memories and pining staring at the ceiling. It smells like home, but a home made for two. It’s strangely romantic for something so plainclothes (clay, green tea, olibanum) but that’s what makes it so poetic: it’s familiar and niche at the same time! This tension plays like the strings of a faraway guitar, reverberating through a complex olfactory journey from start (paintings and pottery) to middle (kissable skin and dried flowers) to finish (sandalwood and soap). How they managed to fit all of that in this fierce little bottle is beyond me. Naked Dance is my new favorite Iris fragrance hands down! I'm so happy I have this. This may not be everyone's opinion, I feel like when I am searching for something like a particular note, I really want that note to come through. If I want orange, I want to be smacked in the face with orange! If I am in the mood for Jasmine, then I want Jasmine! I am in the mood for Iris much more often than I used to be. I have come around to the flower and really enjoy it now. It has been extremely difficult to find a fragrance that concentrates on the flower and nothing else. Iris is very expensive and luxurious. Yes it is in a lot of fragrances, but it is a supporting character more than anything else. Even when it is supposedly the main character, I find other notes in the composition taking over that fragrance as a whole. I'm not going to break it down here because I'm sure we all know what I'm talking about. Naked Dance scratches that itch for an intense Iris desire. It is powder and cream mixed together in the best way possible. It smells luxurious and earthy. Because there is also an element of the rice, the creaminess of the composition is highlighted even more. That and also the clay. These elements create everything I love about a sweeter gourmet fragrance. I really enjoy creamy fragrances, but they are hard to find without the over sweetness attached to it. Naked Dance has done it for me. Thank you for that! That's all I have to say and that's all I need to say.

I love Guaiac Wood, and while searching for fragrances, I came upon this one. I ordered a sample from lucky scent (along with 9 others, all in the guaiac wood, sandalwood, earthy, or incense or bourbon variety). I am not a professional, so forgive me with my terminology. When I opened the sample, I got powder, floral, and slightly sweet- I guess those would be top notes, but I couldn’t tell you which floral notes they were. The second it touched my skin I got woodsy- like guaiac and sandalwood, but still powdery and light. I can definitely understand how someone would say there is a green tea like smell, but not a bitter green. It reminds me of earth and air. When my partner smelled it he said it was like waking up in the woods in Michigan. I agree with the woodsy smell, but it’s not a green and wet scent - something I would expect waking up in the woods - it’s more light and powdery. It’s rice and clay, than dirt and grass. I put it on around 1pm and could still smell it around 8:30, when I put some more on to remind me of the difference from application to dry down. Honestly, the biggest change is what you smell in the bottle versus how it smells on your skin. After that, it seems to stay the same. Overall, I really like it. It lasts, but it’s not pungent. I don’t think there is much sillage; it’s intimate, at least when worn on the skin. Overall, it’s a light and gentle scent and I find myself bringing my wrist to my nose to smell again and again.

Warm, powdery, nurturing. Maternal, in a way that will heal your mommy issues. Makes me nostalgic for a place I’ve never been, somewhere where fresh carpet meets art studio. The clay is true to life and the carrot seed is the best performing I’ve met – a rare treat considering how fleeting my nose finds it in most others. And the rice! (Starch lovers rejoice!). Feels like the sepia-toned version of Dries van Noten’s Neon Garden, which also does a beautiful orris meets carrot. Behaves like a skin scent, but if it were any louder I think that would actually detract from the effect. I’m really into these “new home” scents – you know, the smell of a model home or a celebrity’s Arch Digest loft. Would put Byredo's Desert Dawn, Fugazzi's Angel Dust, and Phlur's Somebody Wood in the same family, with Naked Dance being the most lived-in and grounded of them all. Also matriarch of the “pencil shavings” niche – think Room 1015's Sonic Flower, Glossier's You, or Universal Flowering's Burst!. Mental Snapshot: Being taken under the wing of your AP art teacher. She’s teaching you how to use a potter’s wheel for the first time and doesn’t care if you get clay on the suede of her Birkenstocks. Every smudge tells a story and what you call a mistake she calls a discovery. It’s figure drawing class and all bodies are beautiful. tl;dr: suburban bohemian 🎨🫶

Stunningly beautiful and yet charmingly off-beat. I'm typically not keen on 'spa-hotel'/'new product packaging'/'fruits-of-late-capitalism' perfumes, which this probably counts as. However, 'Naked Dance' goes beyond the usual tropes to a captivating balance between the gorgeous opening burst of fresh bergamot-tea-flowers and the middle of dry basmati grains, dusty powdered clay, and an iris note that feels like radiator dust rather than make-up. The result is an evocative, quietly sensual perfume that is interesting and yet easy to wear. The clay is definitely perceptible, but at times the mid-notes combine to an unsweet toasted-bread note, although it never feels fully edible/gourmand. Crucially, rather than wet cooked rice, which I dislike on my skin, I get the smell of running your hands through a bag of dry basmati. Despite these vividly 'representational' notes - rice, clay - 'Naked Dance' feels skin-friendly and human, perhaps because it's so light and unsweet. Longevity isn't amazing and I suspect this will do better in warmer weather, which would improve diffusion also, but I'm very happy to have a large sample. EDIT: I'm ripping through my travel size. May have to start saving for the Big Bottle.

It's like someone made a special order for me, put together my favourite notes and created a perfume. It was love at first sniff. Woody notes, musk, ceylon tea and water-based paint (I think this part is due to the clay) Great! Unsweet, creamy, smooth, powdery and also fresh. It's a cold scent (in a good way). I usually don't like the rice note in perfumes, which is usually sweet-ish, but not in this one, it's blended very well. Iris and lily are noticeable, I can't quite pick the other flowers. Frankincense and benzoin, present in almost all of my favourite perfumes, are also present in this one. Some people have compared it to Papier, but I have that too, nothing to do with it. Papier is much more peppery and musky. Anyway, I think it's awesome. I'm glad I bought it. It deserves compliments. The art studio analogies are also very appropriate. So are the dusty abandoned church analogies! But it is generally more in line with the light academia aesthetic. The cap is unique to each individual, and mine came with a beautiful motif. I put it on the Fragram.

This scent is....conflicting. I've been wearing my sample for a few days now and I still can't quite tell if I want a full bottle. It starts out with a boatload of waxy powdery iris and a faintly dusty plastacine like clay, which as someone who has a love/hate relationship with florals, had me conflicted. As it dries down however the florals mellow and that fake plasticine like note fades down into the smell of leather hard clay, like the type you get after drying a pot under a dropcloth for a good few hours. That note mixes in with some of the lingering green floral notes and a waft of smokey woods. Honestly that cool smokey mineral drydown scent is to die for, but unfortunatly it sits so close to the skin. I have to hold my wrist right up to my nose to catch it, and after about 4 or 5 hours its mostly gone. If it just had a little more sillage or a little more longevity I might be sold, but as it is i'm still on the fence.

I really like this. It is so subtle, musky, I get a little iris, clay, and the tiniest hint of suede. It reminds me of the drydown of Animalique, when the intense suede note finally fades away and I'm left with the really good musky skin scent. I wavered about purchasing Animalique for months, but now that I've tried Naked Dance, I feel like I finally found what I was looking for and not quite finding there! It also has hints of white rice by d'annam and diptyque's tam dao, both of which I really like, but I feel like this is the best of the three. I am a potter, and a painter, and I feel like this scent almost enhances those creative inner aspects of myself and projects them a little more outwardly. It sounds silly, but it makes me feel more connected to my artistic self when I catch whiffs of this throughout the day. Makes me want to make stuff. I think I'm going to have to get a full bottle.

Naked Dance by Oddity Perfumes 🏺🪻🍊is A rare blind-buy win for me, and one I keep reaching for. This is "My first real encounter with a clay note" and... wow. I get it now. Clean, comforting, but quietly complex. It opens soft and luminous with orange blossom and bergamot, then melts into clay, rice, and green tea. The clay note is truly the star, and all the reviews are spot on: it evokes the scent of wet stone after rain or a pottery studio. Grounded. Calm. Addictive. The heart brings iris, lily, and a drop of Turkish rose, never too floral. As it warms up, sandalwood, white musk, incense, and guaiac wood make it creamy, skin-like, and cozy. The rice adds that subtle gourmand softness I love. Think L’Eau Papier vibes, but more lived-in and earthy. Heads up: intimate sillage, minimal projection. This one stays close. Beautiful and artsy presentation. I am an iris lover: 7.5/ 10.

This is a unique skin scent. I LOVE the small of Pottery. As a kid we used to go to those pottery classes with summer camp/school. This very much smells like rice, BUT the dusty clay is there. I personally get a story of wet clay to dry clay. It starts off with a wet plaster feel as if you were making traditional dishes, then moves to the dry dusty clay once it has dried. I do think this leans very dusty on me, and I love it. It almost smells like exploring the terracotta soldier exhibits. I love the earthiness of it. It’s almost a dusty dirty rice. P.s. I got a mostly light wooden cap, with some small resin piece on top. This is by no means the “holy grail” cap, but I love her, she’s different and looks more like the colour of fresh wood/clay.

This is such a delicious blend of all the notes. If I look for them, I can identify most of them. Especially the fresh clay, olibanum, the bergamot in the opening, the iris- rose- lily combo, guajac wood and rice.. It has a papery quality while also being creamy and lotiony. I havent figured out what it reminds me of in particular, but it def. has a similar vibe to Fleur de Peau, which is my all time fav. perfume! But, testing from a little sample, Naked Dance does not compare in terms of longevity and projection. I feel like I have to bring my wrist up to my nose to smell it and within an hour its gone :( Maybe a good thing considering the price for a full bottle :D but it's worth trying and very interesting and artistic.

I really loved this, but I can see that this is not going to be for everyone. It's more olfactory art and not a crowd pleaser. It's really beautiful, this iris in a earthen clay pot with a few grains of rice. There is something sunny and slightly sweet about it. Not gourmand by any means (I mean what's a gourmand clay pot anyway), but there's a hit of sweetness. Personally, I don't find the opening offensive or to be like the smell of concrete, just slightly sweet clay. I find this scent very calming and comforting. It's a unique offering in the "spa fragrances" genre. I had to apply 1 more spray than usual with this fragrance to get performance I like from fragrances, so you may need to apply a touch more with this one.

Naked Dance by Oddity is such a beautiful perfume, it starts with a gentle Orange Blossom and Bergamot note, blended very well, the clay and the rice are beautifully blended, and the iris isn't too dominant, it feels like every note is balanced. It's a perfect scent for fall, the first time I smelled this perfume I had an image of a woman wearing cashmere, sipping on a warm cup of tea wrapped in her cozy white blanket on a sunny yet cold day. Although this perfume is perfect for the fall season but it works perfectly for spring and even for summer thanks to the gentle start of orange blossom and bergamot which lasts for a good time. Although this perfume isn't challenging in any form, but it's not blind buy safe.

I get a papery vibe from this, like when you open up a brand new book. The rice and clay notes are the most prominent to my nose, a bit like the smell you get in a rice paddy. I thought this was a skin scent when I first tried it, when I wear this I keep getting hints throughout the day which are noticeable but melt away into the background quickly. However, when I've worn this in the office I've had comments that I smell of fresh laundry whenever I walk into the room, so maybe more projection than I thought! I agree with one of the other reviews that this is a very clean and inoffensive scent, but not in a boring way. It's warm and comforting, while still being fresh and unique.

I got a sample of this when I was buying d'Annam White Rice. The woman who was serving me suggested I'd like this as it has that rice note in it and I like a rice note (I have both L'eau Papier and White Rice now). I think I may end up buying this as well to add to my rice note collection. It is definitely stronger, imo than the other two with a very potent wood-y smell. The clay smell also is very prominant early on which makes this really unique compared to the other two rice scents I have. That being said, it definitely has a similar vibe. Kind of paper-y with iris there. The dry down smell reminds me a bit of construction paper from elementary school. Love it.

This is incredibly beautiful. It smells like a rainy day over a field of all kinds of strongly scented wet flowers if they were on the edge of a bank of natural clay. I've never smelled a perfume like it. I came across this because I wanted to find a fragrance that smelled specifically of clay. When I found this and read the notes, I decided to give it a chance and bought a 2ml decant. It was mostly supposed to be an experimental purchase, but I did not expect to absolutely fall in love and NEED this. I savored my sample and yet somehow wore through it faster than any other. It's now on my full bottle wishlist and also in my top 5 fragrances of all time.

Wow, this one's special and soft. I definitely get the more citrus-y, fresh top notes with the bergamot and green tea in the beginning, but for me this is an iris-forward fragrance. The powderiness of the iris is amplified by the clay and rice. Everything is blended to perfection. I agree with those saying this smells like an artist's studio. The day I got this sample I wore it to a local art supply store to buy some tubes of paint and this scent felt like it blended right in. Takes me back to art school days! Edit to add: This is definitely a colder day perfume. Somehow, wearing it on a warmer day makes it smell like BO...

I have a very deep appreciation for this fragrance. The notes intrigued me so I blind bought a sample... I honestly wish I would have bought the full bottle. The initial scent smells exactly like an elementary school art classroom. It brought me back to my childhood and all of the exciting memories of art class. The clay note stands out very strong, but that’s what I love about it. As it settles, I pick up on the rice and iris notes. This is a gorgeous fragrance- woody, fresh, a bit powdery, nostalgic, and very wearable. I can’t wait to order a full bottle.
