11 Semma

I love this fragrance! It is one of the most interesting fragrances I've ever encountered, on my skin anyway. It's a total chameleon on my skin and it transforms so rapidly and completely into lovely and distinct scent stages. If I read the list of notes and try to match them to the stages, I can, but that's no fun. So I'm just going to describe my interpretation of what the fragrance does on my skin. At first I get bright but sweet lemon over polished dark woods. It makes me think of being in a cathedral where the faint smell of incense lingers and someone has cleaned all of the wood with citrus oils. It feels mysterious and sacred, and yes I have an overactive imagination. Almost immediately it transforms into spicy ginger and cinnamon tea with a twist of lemon. Then I get sweet pipe tobacco, then fresh carnations, then damp trees in autumn, and then mulling spices complete with a bit of apple and the slight hint of menthol that I always get from real mulling spices. Is there patchouli in this? I would almost swear that there's some (really good) patchouli coming into play at times. It eventually settles into a warm and slightly sweet blend of pipe tobacco and spice, with a hint of something fresh and woodsy bouncing in and out of focus to keep it from getting too heavy. Yum. *Updated to add: Right before the scent fades away completely it changes again, to a very soft and pretty vanilla anise. I love it! If I try to correlate my experience with the listed notes, I can, mostly. The chili pepper is there in the beginning in the form of a fresh garden scent with a spicy bite. I don't really experience any powdery notes, except in the way that myrrh is resinous and incense-powdery on me. I don't get a whole lot of carnation unless I look for it, except for the one brief stage. Overall I find it to be a beautiful, fascinating fragrance that simmers close to my skin. It feels like I'm wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket with a hot cup of spicy tea or mulled cider, with a bit of fresh cool air and the scent of trees coming in through a slightly cracked window. I think this scent whispers Autumn, but I tend to disregard seasonal constraints so I would wear this year round.

I really enjoyed my experience with Semma. Just when I think I have smelled some strange things, another niche perfume comes along and surprises me. At first it smelled like a top note of sweet lemon mixed with a smooth amber...and a bowl of hot oatmeal. Quite literally. I am genuinely surprised there is no cereal note here. The heart notes are blended so well. I could barely distinuish individual notes. It seemed more like a texture than a scent--something thick and muggy. I honestly smell no cinnamon at all, but I can tell there is a good dose of carnation somewhere in there. The drydown smells like tonka bean mixed with [my memory of] chewing tobacco. I certainly have never chewed the stuff myself, but I have been around it. I don't know if chewing tobacco is the same thing as pipe tobacco; I am no tobacco expert. Isn't there mint flavored chewing tobacco? Or does chewing tobacco smell a bit mentholated? Because that is how Semma smells. Sillage and longevity are excellent. I love this perfume. Odin makes some seriously good sh*t. Seylon is one of my absolute favorite perfumes of all time, and I have generally been impressed with everything I have sampled from Odin.

A stunning offering from the ODIN line, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite niche fragrance brands. No 11 "Semma" opens with a light and powder floral accord with spicy undertones. The carnation flower's spicy effluvium is utilized here with its clove-like note, being perfectly matched and blended by powdery effects (most likely white musk and/or orris notes). Sandalwood's creamy lactonic facets are also noticeable here. As the fragrance evolves over time on the skin, one notices a wet pipe tobacco scent rolling in as if a layer of fog in the countryside. The expertly matched trio of cinnamon, tobacco, and tonka bean is quite a thing to behold. Tobacco's smokey honey-like richness is enriched by the vanillic sweetness of tonka bean, while cinnamon lends an all encompassing layer of spicy warmth. Myrrh sits in the background, taking a supporting role. Would make a great addition to anyone's fall-winter fragrance wardrobe. (118)

Quite special this. After paying my (not inexpensive fee), I got my ticket, which got me onto more of a rollercoaster ride than I had bargained for. A slow climb, marked by subdued myrr and a pinch of subtle chilly pepper (did not know it was possible to be subtle with this element), I was propelled downwards on a thrilling death ride of massive cinnamon and cloves.....very pronounced, but entirely integrated and fortunately nothing leaves the tracks. Nearing the end of the ride, one is left with a calming smooth sandalwood and tonka effect, with just a touch of tobacco and caramel. This goes on for an eternity (ok....6 hours, which is an eternity on my skin), which every now and then is augmented by a sparkly cinnamon shimmer. Wow, can I please get back in line for another run?

An interesting outing from ODIN a house which has produced two good fragrances so far and with the addition of this effort...a third. I'm not instantly reminded of Spicebomb as many are I find it opens like a warm spicy tobacco which is much more pronounced than V&R Spicebomb. When Semma dries down further though the aspects of spicy pepper and cinnamon become more apparent and the balance of sweetness is tipped more in the direction of Spicebomb territory. However this scent is all about the tobacco note for me which is deep and cosy with a great balance of sweetness and a hint of resin. A classy scent then and not the best tobacco I've smelled but certainly not the worst. Longevity is pretty good sillage is okay too.

GOD this stuff is gorgeous. If Burberry London is a pair of jeans, Semma is the same pair of pants, but made of silk. The tobacco/cinnamon combo is so smooth it's unbelievable. Semma features a familiar composition but with a very mysterious and ethereal twist (possibly from the addition of the myrrh). This stuff is addictive and I don't know why it doesn't have more hype. If you like London and Spicebomb, but want something more unique and refined BUT you don't want to shell out $330 for Initio Rehab, Semma is your scent.

Update 9 months in: amazing! So unique and high quality! Super strong too! Incredible! Love at first sniff. Blind bought it based on the fact it resembles London for Men Burberry and it does It is a more high end version of it with a more pronounced powdery and sandalwood notes Amazing!

Seeing a lot of reviews saying it's close to Burberry, and that may be true but to me, it's a completely unique scent (given that I've avoided Burberry). The first note I get that fades very quickly is this astringent menthol that is absolutely lovely with the cinnamon coming in strong behind it. I wish this combination stayed longer until the cinnamon overwhelms it. This top mid note I'm not a very big fan of but points for being unique and I appreciate it for playing its own tune. I do like when it settles down - and gets some more of the more traditional spicy notes interacting with the cinnamon. Very nice scent and for the price - can't beat it.

Having tested "Semma" again, this time on skin, I had to write a new review. You see on paper it smells so like "1899" there's almost no discerning them. Very sweet and powdery, with a definite cinnamon note. But on my skin it changes completely. Very strong astringent smelling clove. I wasn't quite prepared for it. The tobacco took on a honeyed character and the whole thing reminded me of a hot toddy (a whiskey drink with honey and lemon). Perhaps it reacted badly with my chemistry, but to go from a powdery sweet cinnamon scent to a sharp tangy clove and honey was quite bizarre.

I'm not overly fond of the chili pepper/carnation opening. It reminds me of Mexican hot chocolate. The right man might be able to pull it off, but this girl can't. As an olfactory curiosity, it's neat. As a wearable fragrance, it fails. But this is a problem with many niche fragrances. The drydown is far better, heavier on the cinnamon than the tobacco, and reminds me forcibly of Hanae Mori's HiM, a much cheaper and, in my humble opinion, better option.

interesting. little one dimensional. without the pepper though it's pretty middle of the road. biggest criticism is it has no real depth, isn't worth 160 and doesn't last at ALL on me (it fades FAST and disappears). I picked mine up for $50, full, so i'll take it, but would be bummed if I paid retail. Definitely do not blind buy

Mmmm! Cinnamon and sweet tobacco. Sometimes the chili pepper peeps through and you get this cinnamon-bear smell. Happy and warm, this fizzles and flows at the same time. Delicious!

Comforting warm spice, I like this more the longer I wear the sample. Biggest note is the myrrh for me.

#953 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant to try out. If you have Burberry London, V&R Spicebomb, PDM Herod, PDM Oajan, this really adds nothing to your collection. I had all of them and gave them away. Cinnamon is just not my jam, and the cinnamon overpowers every other note from the opening on. As it dries down some chili comes through, but still mostly cinnamon. If you're a big cinnamon fan this may be for you. I am not. Not in tea, gum, oatmeal. In fact I only ever use it for cinnamon toast, maybe once every other year, out of childhood nostalgia, and even then a single slice. Don't want to smell it all day, and this does last all day. This won't be a buy for me. Unisex. Solid EDP sillage and longevity. If you're going to be in tight spaces with anyone this could get obnoxious if you do more than a spritz.

Few things can be as pleasing as testing a perfume in ideal conditions. So, when 11 Semma fell from the sky on a wonderful day, I sprayed me twice and I hit the streets. In ten minutes I was strolling trough a park. A tall and lithesome adolescent girl came out of the bushes and stood before me. She had long wavy and rumply auburn hair and her face was a little soiled. -Pray tell my Lord, art thou perchance a dragon slayer? -Why? -For thou smellest as if one hath just breathed its fire upon thee... Half an hour later I was crossing a square, when I saw a tiny girl wearing a tan, oversized suede suit coat, black skinny jeans and a lemon beret, sitting on a fountain's parapet and dangling her legs. She hopped down gracefully and came towards me. -Hey bro, are you from Cuba? -Why? -Coz you know, you smell like you're packin' a good deal of Cohibas under your coat! After two hours I was slightly surprised by a light tap on my shoulder. I turned and saw a portly, jolly woman with a big smile on her face. -Excuse me sir, but are you a saint? -Why? -Because you smell like a thurible... Finally, after some good eight hours, an old but well-off lady stopped me as I was about to open my door. -Forgive me son, but are you real? -Why? - For the reason that you smell like San Fidel de los Dragones, and such a thing does not exist... If its name comes from the Tamil word semmai which means excellence, then yes, it suits it semmai-tly. If it comes from Tamil slang where semma means very/a lot, then yes again, it's semma big too. A scary little, yet somehow fabulous, beast that doesn't fit anywhere. It would be an oddity by any means, no matter what decade it would have been launched. It would make heads turn in Woodstock and Wall Street alike. Because it's uncommon, puzzling and strange. You smell it, but your first thought is that you are not smelling a fragrance, but something indecipherable, yet enthralling, that makes you want to follow its trace. Whether it leads to damnation or salvation is yet to be decided. Don't forget that it's not a perfume after all... It's San Fidel de los Dragones!

Warm spicy ambery with a hint of sweetness, held together by powdery floral. I don’t get tobacco, which I’m disappointed in, that’s why I got a sample. If it’s there, it’s faint on my skin. To me the carnation is the strong player, so much so that I would call this a floral. It leans more on the feminine side, but males could pull it off. It’s a nice fragrance, just not for me.

11 بی هیچ حرف پیش بدون هیچ مقدمه ای اودین 11 فوق العادست،یه شاهکاره! یه عطر بزرگ با محوریت دارچین و تنباکو که همه چیز تحت فرمانروایی مقتدرانه و با شکوه این دو آکورد؛به زیبایی وظایف و نقش خودشون رو ایفا میکنن و عطری ستودنی خلق میکنن. سِما با حسی تلخ و ادویه ای باز میشه.دارچین،فلفل و میخک.شروعی گرم و سنگین که حالت تند و کمی خاکی دارچین در کنار حس چرکین و تیز میخک؛شیطنت و تندی فلفل که تازگی خاصی به این فضای سنگین داده رو به حاشیه بردن.این عطر عظیم با حفظ رایحه ی اسپایسی،انیمالیک و خاکی با کیفیت و واضحش که از اتحاد دارچین-میخک ایجاد شده وارد فاز گرم و دودی میشه.بعد از اجرای نمایش با ابهت اسپایسی-انیمالیک عطر در این مرحله که حاشیه ی دودی و صمغی شیکی داره،بستر برای ورود تنباکوی شیرین و شاداب که حسی فلورال-میوه ای داره فراهم میشه. تنباکوی بسیار با کیفیت که تازگی خاصی داره؛ در کنار دارچین که حالا اون حس انیمالیک و خشک میخک رو در کنار خودش نمی بینه قرار می گیره.تو این مرحله دارچین بوی شیرین و گرم آشناش رو به نمایش میذاره که این رایحه ی دلچسب با تنباکوی فاخر و گرانبهایی در هم آمیخته و ته مایه هایی صمغی و دودی هم داره. یه پایان گرم،شیرین،میوه ای-فلورال،کمی الکلی که شاداب و درخشان و بسیار نافذه. هر چی در مورد این کار بنویسم نمیتونم حق مطلب رو ادا کنم و اطاله ی کلامه.خودتون باید در فضای سِما قرار بگیرید تا جذب این ترکیب غنی،پیچیده،عمیق و ارزشمند بشید.عطری که اگرچه لطافت و تازگی آرامش بخشی رو به طرز عجیبی القا میکنه اما شکوه و عظمت شاهانه ای داره که همه رو مسحور و مقهور خودش خواهد کرد.کاری با ماندگاری و پخش بسیار خوب که ساعت ها غرق در لذت سادگی و در عین حال غنای اون بودم... فقط عرض یه نکته در مورد این عطر برام مهمه: اینکه اودین 11 رو مشابه یه سری عطرا بدونم مثل توهینیه که از یکسان دونستن شیر با گربه؛بخاطر اینکه هر دو از خانواده ی گربه سانان هستن به جناب شیر میشه! البته باید عرض کنم این نظر شخصی بنده هست و نظر تمامی دوستان عزیزم کاملا محترمه! کامنت:م.ع (سایت لوکس بایر (با امکان تست سمپل

Fine...I'll get things started. I really wanted to try this and love it because cinnamon and tobacco are two of my favorite notes. Those 2 notes definitely lead the way in my experience with Semma and it is a spicy, red hot cinnamon tempered and grounded with some earthy tobacco. If it had started and stopped there I would actually love it for the simplicity but to me there was one very unnecessary note that was prominent and will almost certainly make this a "no go" for me - CARNATION. To those who experience carnations like I do it doesn't have anything to do with being floral...it's all about the clove like quality and that's the pity. Cloves and I are not friends - they killed Costume National Homme to me and often times go hand in hand with cinnamon. If you don't mind carnation/cloves you might love this scent. For potential comparison sake my thought when I sprayed the first time was Hanae Mori's HiM (which thankfully has no carnation) but in term's of spicy cinnamon I'd still rank both of these behind Spicebomb.

This stuff if #gorgeous and nobody talks about it, kinda sad but I love it. The triangle of #tobacco #chilli and #cimmamon brighten the fragrance and makes it very #attractive A fragrance which smells pretty luxurious and expensive and highly wearable all year round. Overall, a beautiful scent which remains close to skin and not shouting out loud but 10/10 on how it smells. #semma11 #odinnewyork PS: the post is based on my thoughts and understanding, if you think otherwise try to make your own post around it.

semma is childhood memories: (spicy) milk rice with cinnamon. and a half of a preserved peach in the middle, that doesn't mean semma smells like a peach but the fruity note makes it a bit too sweet for my taste. the myrrh gives it an odd twist, what i like if there's something in a perfume that disturbs me. nevertheless, in my opinion semma is a perfume that takes you in the arms and says that everything is gonna be allright. and this feeling is long-lasting.
