Ladamo

This perfume will familiarize you with some of the more challenging aspects of immortelle. It can go extremely savory as in “white radish roots” as Q80 acurately describes below. I wanted to love this but I just can’t get past the onion and mushroom vibe of the opening.

A very poetic perfume. L'Adamo unveils an olfactive saga that focuses on the creation of the first man, Adam. To my nose, it goes through three distinct phases, that I associate with three chapters of first man's creation, The Genesis, The Life in Paradise, and The Exile on Earth. The Genesis. L'Adamo hits you hard in the opening with a strong smell of wet earth, and roots. There's also the spicy, fiery touch of ginger, and other spices, all of which bring about the birth. Crawling from the depths of the Earth, through the creative power of fire, and into the world. I love earthy accords, so the opening is marvelous to my nose. It smells incredibly true to nature, very powerful and raw. Life in Paradise. The middle part of the perfume shifts drastically to a phase where floral notes and sandalwood dominate. The sandalwood smells close to the Indian variety, and for the florals, I detect sweet, powdery mimosa and fresh, fruity magnolia. This phase is incredibly soothing, and comforting. Waves of creamy sandalwood washing over sweet florals. A promise of eternal Paradise indeed. The Exile. Ladamo shifts again, and now dry, spicy tobacco as well as earthy patchouli take over the scent profile. These elements perfectly fit with this part of the story. The spices, mainly fenugreek, are hot and sweet, hinting at the fires of eternal damnation and the perpetual lust, the propensity for sin. The tobacco is very dry and full of flavor, the most dominant element of the composition, and it hints at darkness. The patchouli symbolizes the return to an Earthbound home. From here on, it stays on this spicy tobacco and patchouli theme for many hours, until it fades away. The transitions are very smooth, almost imperceivable, although the three stages feel drastically different from each other. That's a sign of excellent craftsmanship. The perfume smells like it's all-natural to me, or very close to all-natural. I have tried and own quite a few of Angelo's creations, but this one is truly the most exquisite so far. LADAMO (L'Adamo) stays for Adam and together with LEVA (L'Eva / Eve) form the Genesi line. One masculine and one feminine that I suppose should work as sort of signature of the house... LADAMO strikes as a more complex/richer version of Huitieme Art's Fareb as it basically opens with the same rooty immortelle/ginger accord. Anyone who's usually not into helichrysum should carefully avoid this composition as this is what it's all about. The immortelle note is devoided of most of the burnt-sugary feel and emphasized on its fenugreek and woody-liqorice aspect while a light mimosa note provides a little refinement that's not enough to tame this insanely powerful composition. Where Fareb introduces leather, LADAMO pushes on spices (mainly cardamom) and juniper to add even more body. The fragrance stays pretty linear for hours and hours to finally "evolve" into a galbanum driven drydown. Definitely masculine, full-bodied and with a strong herbal quality. LADAMO It's pervaded by a rough edge as opposed to sophistication and refinement and in this context it shares the same old apothekary quality of ancient houses such as Santa Maria Novella. For other aspects (the use of spices and the overall oriental feel), it may bring to mind of an uncompromising version of some early Diptyques. A fragrance that sounds like a statement, a statement that speaks of great quality ingredients, a couple of accords, no frills. Do I like it? It smells good and I'm a sucker for immortelle but at these prices I expect a little more than a straight forward helichrysum... Rating: 6.5-7/10

first spray = Fodder with a hint of watery grass, and white radish roots. after a minute it turns earthy, greeny, and the radish roots remains still. the metallic watery note then arise with the company of unwashed dusty ginger. No juniper & no Tobacco but the dark is there. spicy earthy and allot of roots in there.
