Olivine

A creamy, milky gardenia with a musky presence. Fortunately, I am not getting mothballs, nor do I find it particularly indolic. This is an in full-bloom, sweetly scented gardenia. It is very rich and creamy and conjures up images of a bowl of sweet, whipped cream to me. Silage is big, so only a few sprays are needed. Longevity is fantastic too. While I only have a sample right now, I might just purchase a fb when this sample is done. 2/7/23 - Shortly after my original review I purchased a bottle and love it even more than the sample I had. I wore it quite a lot in spring and summer and it was everything I wanted in a gardenia fragrance and then some. But one pet peeve I have is that this does not smell as wonderful in the cold as it does in warmer weather. It's rather flat and one dimensional in the cold. Ugh...wearing it yesterday and I kept asking, where did that sweet creamy gardenia go? Then I realized this fragrance needs a little ambient heat to bring out all the notes. Oh well, looks like this is one that will go into the spring/summer use only camp.

THIS. IS. GARDENIA. I was instantly transported to a path I used to walk to access a beach in Hawaii...lush green tropical gardenia bushes all in bloom. The scent of creamy natcotic gardenias wafting in the air. WOW. EYES. ROLL. BACK. HEAVENLY. 💕💋💕 sweet SWOON worthy gardenia. Edit: my bottle is not as sweet as my sample. I am letting this sit to see if it gets better with a little age.

Olivine is giving me Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia vibes. It doesn't have the green top notes or the lily of the valley that ET Gardenia has but it has the same musky gardenia quality that is very lactonic. This is very beautiful. If you want a cheaper option for this give ET Gardenia a try. I do find this a bit more refined and less green. If you love musky lactonic gardenia perfumes this is a really good one. Edit:8/6/22 I wore Olivine this morning and early afternoon and when it wore off (it was only a sample) I put on Elizabeth Taylor's Gardenia. I find they have a very similar scent profile. The gardenia is the same a very lactonic milky gardenia. ET Gardenia is greener in the opening and Olivine is muskier. If you really like Olivine and are on a tight budget try ET Gardenia, I think you will find they are very similar.

Really pretty thick, creamy gardenia. Reminds me of arriving in Hawaii and walking out of the airport... the smell of tropical flowers and fresh leis sold at little kiosks almost knocks you off your feet! Strong like, but don't know that I would go out and buy a full bottle. Would be awesome for layering also! Edited to add: So changing this to a love! It really has lovely sillage and envelops you for several hours without being overbearing. Pretty linear, which I think can be a good thing.

Olivine is a really pretty, lovely gardenia fragrance. I recently received a sampler kit of the oil versions of Olivine Atelier perfumes and 'Olivine' is one of my two favourites from the samples (the other being 'Oxley'). It's softly sensuous, feminine and beautiful. I'd love to try the EDP version. The longevity is good and the sillage is soft to moderate.

Close to a photo realistic gardenia, which is what I was looking for. I detect a grainy, unsweetened pear note up top which does mimic that facet of gardenia. There's also a bit of a dirt-like smell. Once it settles it's creamier and more typically tropical tiare smelling. O really like it!

Holy indoles, Batman. It is mothball city for at least the first three hours after application. I used to think that I liked both gardenia and musk, so I thought this would be pleasant, if not a little linear / perhaps slightly boring. I'm not sure what went wrong here, but it was overwhelming and I nearly jumped in the shower again, having just gotten out of it 15 minutes prior. I made the mistake of generously spraying three rapid sprays to the chest (assuming I'd like it, based on the notes) before it hit me. Lesson learned: always apply to the wrist first to determine if it'll work for you, before going blasting your neck/chest. My dog wouldn't get within three feet of me for at least an hour after applying, and she's not too picky about my fragrance choices (only other fragrance she's shown distaste for was Mad Madame by JHAG). Go figure, the fragrances I like the least seem to have an inverse relationship with longevity--that is to say, it's still very much detectable (albeit a skin scent) a solid 10 hours later. It dries down to something less offensive (or perhaps my nostrils were already traumatized, and they just gave up) about 3 hours in, but that is a long time to wait for something if you consider it unbearable. It gets a bump up from "hate" to "dislike", since it's got great longevity--I really do try to look on the bright side, I promise. There's enough left in the sample vial for another wearing, but I can't bring myself to endure the opening again. Off it goes to the swap eveners for now.

I have sampled the oil version of this perfume; it is also available in EDP. Olivine is a well-executed gardenia musk. The gardenia note is realistic, but the musk tempers it and brings out its sweetness, completely suppressing the more challenging 'blue cheese' aspect of gardenia (Jardenia it is not). If you are familiar with Ava Luxe's Gardenia Musk, I would say that Olivine places a stronger emphasis on the gardenia note, while AL Gardenia Musk is more of a musk with a gardenia accent. Olivine is definitely a linear scent, and the oil form provides very soft sillage and good longevity. I'll confess that Olivine is my least favorite in the line, but that's only because I am not a gardenia fan. For those who are, Olivine is definitely worth sampling!

I expected to love this as I love every gardenia I've tried- isabey, estee lauder, elie saab, etc. but this is different. I also grow 7 different varieties of gardenia and know the nuances among the flowers themselves. However, this has a strong musk smell from the get go that STRONGLY reminds me of mothballs and steam irons. I almost bought a full bottle blind and am so glad I just got a sample.

Oh, OLIVINE, I am so in love with you. This is the gardenia I've been searching for, without even knowing I was searching for one! Lush, buttery, naturally creamy with no additives ... the smell of a goddess wrapped in this white floral beauty. I have the eau de parfum with the adorable vintage-style bulb sprayer although I would very much prefer a regular spray bottle I can easily cover to prevent any evaporation of the precious liquid inside. I grew up in a home with a garden abundant with gardenia bushes and OLIVINE was successful in transporting me back to that place. I am floating on a cloud of soft, silky white petals ... so pure, so white, feminine and organic. Not a hint of anything animalic is present. Thankfully this bliss is not fleeting for OLIVINE lasted a good 8 hours on my skin.

This reminds me a lot (a LOT) of Elie Saabs Gardenia. It very quiet and has a very low sillage. I have fragrance eating skin so this isn’t really the kind of scent that’s going to work for me. It has a lot of indoles (those mothballs) the reviewer listed below me. It’s pretty true to the real gardenia flower so if you’re looking for a realistic soliflor gardenia skin scent then this is perfect for you. I am just looking for some more complexity and will layer this with my other gardenia scents. I layered this with Pure Poison Dior last night and it was quite pretty but alone it’s a bit boring.

I have the oil version. I have been on a gardenia quest for quite a while and have not really come close to the smell of this elusive flower. I grow many kinds of gardenias, so I'm familiar with the fresh scent. Olivine is probably the closest I will get for now, until aroma-science cracks the code. Olivine has all the right elements - a delicate and lovely, milky, white, warm floral. It is blended well and sits close to skin. A must-try for gardenia/tiare fans.

Utterly lovely. I usually wear its sister fragrance, Oxley (formerly called Dame), which is sweeter and more velvety because of the addition of vanilla, but Olivine is simply a lovely, uplifting gardenia. The only gardenia soliflore that comes close to being this heavenly is Dame Perfumery's Gardenia, but my bottle of that has developed a kind of bite. Olivine is like a romantic spring evening in a bottle.

- Creamy, dreamy, natural and beachy gardenia. It smells green like a garden in spring which still has the crisp cold air of winter blowing through despite this flower being a summer one. It's green and woody to me in the opening. After a while the musk rolls in and adds depth. Great perfume. I love Gardenia and this perfume perfectly captures their freshly opened petals. I bought a full bottle. 😊

Astonishingly realistic gardenia. The musk grounds this but doesn't in any way intrude upon the scent of a night blooming gardenia scenting a romantic garden path. I keep right on sniffing my arm and looking for the bloom to pop up in a bouquet or on a bush. Very realistic. I'm reviewing the Perfume Oil.
