Sakura

Got a sample of this one with some other Olympic Orchids scents I purchased. Pulled it out to ward off the dreariness of another chilly gray February day. I used to have a cherry tree in my backyard, and those few rare spring days when it was in bloom were so beautifully perfumed and are forever the smell of spring to me. There have been lots of cherry blossom perfumes in the last few years, most of which smell pleasant but very perfume-y, with just a hint of the actual blooms. Sakura from Olympic Orchids smells like the whole darn tree--green leaves, soft twigs and the delicate scent of the blossoms, damp with the night's dew and glistening in the sun. Very earthy, natural-smelling and a breath of fresh air in February. Sakura is a little bit softer than some of Olympic's other perfumes and the longevity is excellent--about 10 hours. An absolute pleasure to wear and my favorite cherry blossom scent of all time.

It smells just like it sounds, like cherry blossom petals floating in the wind. Its unlike some of the other Olympic Orchid scents as its very delicate, and sits close to the skin. Being a heavy fragrance lover, I wasn't sure Id go for this, but I must say its much more lovely then I thought. The start is very floral, and even a teensy bit green, and once the drydown comes, the magic happens. A tiny bit of sweetness comes out amongst the delicate floral fragrance that makes all the difference. Its very lady like and gracefull. I can't speak to all heavy fragrance lovers that they will love it, but if you have a more eclectic taste this is a REALLY wonderful little perfume thats IMO is a must try!

OMG! This is totally divine. I'm not one for musky fragrances but this is hard not to love. So cool, sweet, yet fresh with the blossoms dancing in a spring breeze. I love most of the Olympic Orchid fragrances and this is a bit different. This maybe delicate but it is no weedy fragrance. Moderate sillage and longevity. My Mum was over and she smelt this on me and loved it. She asked to try it so I put some dabs of my sample on her wrist. Well, it just smelt of damp earth. I know that smell well as a keen gardener. She was so disappointed. I suspect her chemistry messed with the musk note. So, folks please test before buying.

This is impressive. Every other cherry blossom scent I've smelled before feels flat in comparison. This has all the depth you never realized cherry blossoms had and no random cherry food notes that don't belong. Furthermore, you know that musty scent that petals get when they've gotten too wet and soggy and sit for a bit? It has that too, but somehow it doesn't smell dirty. In fact it sometimes smells like wouldn't be out of place in a clean sporty bath and body product if it were more synthetic smelling. I do love it, but the longevity isn't great -- impressive for a light floral, but not something that lasts all day.

This so delicate and ethereal, with a quiet, natural presence. It has a bit of aquatic/leafy green in the opening, then it softens to breezy, rainy flowers. Once the opening calms down it is a soft, realistic cherry blossom with just a tiny touch of sweetness. This would be for someone shy but sweet and romantic, it's very light and natural feeling. It whispers rather than shouts, but it's really beautiful, it's the kind of fragrance where people would say, "What smells so nice?" or "Where are the flowers?" rather than "I love your perfume."

An interesting, simple but complex scent that takes a sharp 180* turn heading into dry down. Starts off earthy and aquatic, like a wet orchard. Very natural and ethereal. Then, it takes a major turn and becomes floral, pure floral. I don’t have much experience with cherry blossom, but I’m sure others are correct who have commented before my review; Sakura turns into that beautiful flower. Opening with wet earthy, leaves and twig smell lasts about 30-40 minutes. That’s an odd but likable opening, but it’s the dry down that I love.

This stuff smells amazing. It is unisex but I think best suited for women.

I worked in DC for years and took many walks along the Tidal Basin. The intoxicating view and smell of the beautiful and delicate cherry blossoms is amazing and unforgettable. NebraskaLoveScents is spot on! This IS cherry blossom, stems, leaves, on a cool, clear, dewy morning. Unfortunately my skin radiates the "green" more than the blossom so it is not as gorgeous on me as it will be on others with flower loving skin. Highly recommend!!! UPDATE: As the evening wore on the "greens" receded significantly I was left with this luscious cherry blossom that lasted into the night and still noticeable the next morning. WOW. :-D

I smell most prominently the watery-anise note of canthoxal that serves as a major player in scents like En Passant. This is less literally floral than the Malle...but it does sort of impressionistically conjure up the hazy, petal-like scent of cherry blossoms. Most cherry blossom scents go for the berry tones of beta ionone vs this green and vegetal direction that gives more of a sense of what light scent cherry blossoms DO smell like. I don't know that I'd wear it, but I will likely enjoy smelling it in the middle of the winter as a way to look forward to early blooming flowers.

It is a cool musky fragrance, you can almost feel the cold wind around you. It is green and fresh, and more ozonic in nature. It would be almost too formal to wear, if not for cherry notes, they bring some warmth into the whole combo. It almost feels like there is a traces of lemongrass and mint, to bring this icy coldness into the formula. It is a pretty fragrance, for an independent person. It feels to me, I am in this air bubble that separates me from others when I put this one on.

A watery feeling musk, but with a slight fruity floral middle. People have voted up L'Eau D'Hiver and yes I can see why as it has a similar tone (earthy yet watery and airy), but the scent is quite different with the fairly natural feeling cherry blossom accord added. Not a fragrance I would normally like but I do enjoy this one it's very relaxing.

Anise (a note I am pretty ambivalent about) is prominent in the opening. I could absolutely see this fitting in to Blocki’s family of floral perfumes.

The two notes of cherry blossom and musk don't describe this scent very well. It's not your typical light girly cherry blossom scent at all, but I guess that's not what one would expect from Olympic Orchids anyways. The opening is very earthy and vegetal. It took me a moment to understand what it reminds me of... Carrots and dirt! Not like those scents that have a cute little carrot cake note, nope, full on carrots. Luckily it doesn't stay like that for long. After it has dried down the scents is still earthy, but even more floral and also aquatic and ozonic. Imagine there was a season where cherry blossoms and lilac bloomed at the same time, while it also snowed regularly. Now imagine a rough and gritty indie perfume interpretation of this scenario, and you have Sakura. I found this fun to test, but even though a more grown-up cherry blossom sounds interesting, this is not what I would want to smell like.

This has an oddly sweet, plastic note beginning, that doesn't go away immediately as it's drying down. It does eventually settle down into a generally floral musk. However, it feels very one-dimensional. It reminds me of the smell a very old vintage perfume takes on once all the other notes have disappeared and you are only left with some variety of musky base. Similar to some of the other Olympic orchids since with prominent musk notes, every other aspect is overwhelmed. For example, 5 minutes in, there is not even a hint of cherry blossom on me. If you want very simplistic musk, this might be for you, otherwise I'd say pass.

If I apply a beam of imaginative light I can spin a strand of gold out of this olfactory straw and detect a gleam of blossom in the heart of this wan, slightly mouldy scent.... but it's a stretch, really. This is the only one of Ellen Covey's perfumes which disappoints. It fades completely within 40 minutes and blends in with the air it resembles. Distillation: ephemeral scent chasing a very faint waft perfume butterfly

As others have said this is a delicately floral scent with an earthy, watery, and faintly ozonic backdrop. At times it does come off more as water lily than cherry blossom. Some might like that it is so faint and ethereal that it is reminiscent of smelling flower petals, but I prefer something with more oomph. 6.5/10

A little anise was surprising for me. Sakura, this lightly sweet, floral, musky, wet and delicate cherry blossoms. Sort of like cherry blossoms that fell to the ground and breaking down.

It's an OK musk. I get subtle cherry blossoms in the middle notes. It's just too weak for my preferences.

I get greens, dirt, and a bit of old perfumey vibes from this one. This is definitely a different take from the usual sweet pink florals you get from most houses. There is some spice after dry down on me, another reviewer said anis and that makes a lot of sense. I wasn’t sure if it was the Osafume I’m testing as well, but together it makes for a quite offensive, cough inducing experience. It also makes me sneeze a lot, I am congested. Big pass.

Popping by just real quick to say, on me it smells just like BLACK LICORICE. I don't know how or why but not a safe blind buy.

Not Sakura. It smells like wet soil. Wet soil in garden. Nothing else. Very weak projection and longevity too.

I was so excited for this but upon sniffing it, I received a sawed-off double barrel of super-concentrated anise right to the face. I cannot tolerate anise or related flavors (fennel/licorice/tarragon); it's repulsive to me on a level that has to be genetic since my mom hates it as much as I do. This is purely a Skill Issue on my part, as the youth say. If I concentrate, I can detect a lovely and delicate floral note buried beneath the onslaught. That I can even get this note at all has me impressed with Dr. Covey's work; usually any hint of licorice/anisic tones drowns out the entire rest of the scent (Hello, Solstice Scents Badlands). My search for a cherry blossom scent continues - next on the list is J-Scent's Hanamizake.

This is a hyper-realist depiction of the blossoms you've experienced in nature: the delicate petals with a faint-to-nothing smell and a heart of stamens that are earthy and musty when you put your nose to it. You don't know why but there is something so intoxicating about the smell of real flowers... not the pretty ideal versions we sample in mainstream perfumery... but the true-to-life botanicals that draw you in with the visceral smell of nature.

A Sakura blooms after the cold winter. At first, I get a green vegetal effect, followed-up straight afterwards by a very delicate freshness floral yet musky scent. I do not get the anise-like feeling that others have described. A beauty.

watery and transient. the smell actually reminds me a bit of lilies which i quite dislike, unfortunately. not an unpleasant scent by any stretch, but not something i really want to smell like

The note listing could plausibly include acrylic yarn, rubbermaid tote, and scratch and sniff stickers. Not good!

I am told this one smells exactly like cherry trees in blossom..... Sounds fabulous!
