Blue Winter

I was in Chattanooga for an unfortunate family event and wanted to lift my spirits with something I shared with my grandmother Perfume. I drove to the address to find the storefront hasn’t opened yet, but Joe let me in anyways. I got to see behind the scenes, talk about his inspirations, how he makes fragrances, colours, vibrations, and frequencies. He sent me home with some samples and I smelled the whole line plus some newer ones and ones that won’t make it to market. This is one of my favourites alone with MossMoss and an unreleased gem. This is a gorgeous aquatic tobacco. I know aquatics can come off VERY synthetic, but Joe assured me that he has averted utilizing those “shower gel” materials. Yes he has, this lotus absolute in here is soooo good. I got to smell the absolute on skin apart from the fragrance. Along with the musk and sandalwood, we get a sweeter floral experience with a full tobacco leaf. It’s not necessarily smoked tobacco, but one in the process of curing. The opening with the line and lotus almost mirror the sensation of mint. This is excellent!

Out of the 7 scents I tried from Onycha, this is one of the most intriguing and atmospheric ones. This Blue Winter is not harsh, it doesn't cut through your skin like the cold blade of polar air. It's more like a secret. You wake up while everyone is still asleep. Quietly. It's still dark outside, but there's a glimpse of white light across the ambiguous grey-blue sky, almost like a watercolour tracing. Is it fading into the night or conquering the dark? Without a time reference, it would be hard to say. You walk outside to a snow-covered scenery. The first snow of the season. Quietly, slowly, you take it all in. This is how Blue Winter feels - a bit nostalgic, a bit warm, a bit cold, luminous, yet also dark. The smokiness and conifer elements blend well with the soft florals and musk. No sharp edges, not screechy. Feels very natural. I really like it.
