Original Penguin for Men

Wow, this juice is amazing. First off don't let the boring box fool you. I always think brown equals generic woody aromatic. Definitely not the case with this one. I think if Guess by Marciano and Givenchy Pi had a baby, and you took out the "fizzy" spicey accord from Pi.. this would be it. From the opening to the dry down.. this is really good. It opens sweet and smooth with a little spice. Fruity but not, like Guess, but more subtle. A little spicey from the black pepper but it dies down (thank God since I don't like black pepper aka BO) and you're left with a sweet semi fruity vanilla scent. Not much wood to my nose, which is nice. Too many wood backbones out there to choose from. Cool/cold weather dumb reach. Love it. Lonegevity is good, projection is decent but could be better. Any age, but I'd say college and up for sure. I think it could be worn all year round but since its pretty gourmand to my nose.. fall and winter are great. Casual or date night.. at work this might be a bit strong and sweet. I'd suggest clean and fresh. Overall.. couldn't be happier with this blind buy. Much love to everyone who dropped a thought. Amazing juice. 1/5/19 Edit: The initial blast is so gourmand. I love it. Like pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Some apple cider with a cinnamon stick on the side.. then the pepper kicks in. BO time. Wait 10 min and it mellows. In fall/winter rotation for sure.

i have heard about this for awhile now and never really jumped on board... let me tell you i was wrong.. this is quite a good scent if you like fresh and sweet. i can see myself wearing this almost all year long.. maybe not during winter cause i like my gourmands for that season... lets start with it's price... i found a 1 ounce bottle at walmart for like 25$ it's not the cheapest but it's not really pricey either i think you get a good bang for the buck with this one.. next is the smell.. simple. it smells good, fresh and clean with a hint of sweet and some spicey.. it engulfs you with a cloud of a very pleasant aromas..{just one spray} that's how i test a fragrance start with one good blast if it last then i proceed.. after i got this and did the initial spritz it lasted for a good 6-8 hrs on my skin. i have to add i rarely spray my skin unless i am testing. so if it last this long on flesh it should last longer on clothes.. all in all it is worth a notice.. i give this fragrance a big thumbs up.. *note if you could imagine the freshness of ADG mixed with the sweet of sun java and the aromatic's of coolwater with a hint of peppery goodness on top you have this.. does it remind me of others; yes it does. but original enough not to be mistaken for anything else. you should go check out the OG penguin.

I Won This! YES! I won something! When Original Penguin released this scent they had a contest on facebook to give away a 3.4 ounce bottle and I was shocked to find I won! With that said ... This is DEFINITELY one of my al time favourite scents! Original Penguin is one of those few scents which combines common ingredients to become something "more". Aromatically the smooth, sensual scents of musk and vanilla flow throughout this fragrance. A noticeable "pang" of spiciness lies just beneath [pepper] giving it a distinctively masculine essence. Finishing it all off is an dash of apple which, along with the neroli, complete this frangrance with a light citrus smell. Strangely lacking, to my emense pleasure, is the smell of patchouli. While it may linger in a very small quantity, it does not carry on it's usual mission of conquering all other ingredients. Having an allergy to patchouli, my lack of sinus congestion when I wear Original Penguin is a testament to the subtleness of it's presence. This is just a great smell for the guys which will last for hours but not have that overkill "punch". Original Penguin is definitely one of my "top shelf" scents!

Follow Up Review 3-1/2 years later: It's one of the last few cool days in my part of the world, and I wanted to go for something that's not been a regular in my rotation this Fall and Winter, so I went with Original Penguin today. When I pulled the bottle out of my wardrobe I thought, "man that looks just like a flask!" Then it hit me...duh! It IS a flask! It has a loitering, boozy characteristic and the whole booze theme is what Original Penguin is going for in their line of fragrances with names like Rocks, Nightcap, and Reserve (all terms related to spirits). Not sure why I never made the connection before, but they've certainly nailed it as this one makes you feel just like you would if you were sipping from a flask ...warm, comfortable, and confident. While everyone else is doing the Oud frags, and Terre d'Hermes, Bleu de Chanel, and 1 Million to death in the cool months, do yourself and the ladies a favor and get this one in your rotation. You'll be glad you did! Still one of the most beautifully done inexpensive fragrances in my wardrobe and as good as it ever was!

I picked up the gift set at Marshall's for $20, and it has quickly become one of my favorites as I find myself reaching for it all the time. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. It's definitely worth a try and I recommend it for both younger and more mature gentlemen. Easily the best $20 I've spent on a fragrance! This is a versatile, balanced fragrance that can be worn at any time of the year, day or night, and dressed up or down. It opens with a wonderful boozy apple blast and a dash of pepper. The heart of the fragrance becomes apparent rather quickly as a clean, white musk with a hint of pine develops. The pepper fades slowly, but reappears from time to time once it settles into a creamy, amber-like, slightly woody, vanilla spice. It doesn't smell like it, but to me this fragrance invokes the same "feeling" as a good Chai Tea - it's sweet but spicy, masculine but smooth and inoffensive, and creamy with a bit of a loitering boozy characteristic. It's beautifully done!

A cheapie for sure- I just picked up a 1 oz. bottle at TJ's for $9.99- blind buy based on reviews here and the price. Overall, I really think it is good! There aren't many fragrances out there that smell like this. The musk is prominent- so much so that it has a tinge of "old school scent" to my nose, but there are other notes at play that help modernize it. It initially has a sweetness that I surmise is the apple, though apple is not overtly apparent. On the dry down, the pepper and fir come out and give it a nice lingering spice, while the musk and vanilla keep the base warm. If you find this at a discount retailer and enjoy musky, warm fragrances, give it a try! OP is easy to wear, pleasing without being generic. Good work, Penguin! Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 7/10 Value: 12/10

For me and on my skin, this is a more mature and calmed down version of Eros. Bright in the opening and the apple and pepper are there. But it warms up and settles down to the vanilla, patchouli and musk, with the patchouli and musk taking forefront with just enough vanilla to give it some warmth, but this is not a real sweet fragrance as I said it tends to lean on the mature side. I have other Penguin colognes and I like all of them. Bang for the buck, can’t go wrong. Performance all around is average, and I have some expensive ones that don’t perform as well. Blind buy worthy? Yes, if you are looking for something similar to Eros, but not as sweet and a little more mature, and office/public friendly.

I love this fragrance It has a lovely scent and puts you in a good mood while wearing it! When I wear it I smell mostly Vanilla, Red apple and same lavender however I'm no the best at spotting scents! I prefer it a bit more during the day and in cool weather such as but doesn't have to be it's pretty versatile! With this cologne I get great longevity I'd say about up to 8 hours and a pretty good silage I've also had good compliments! I've made this my signature fragrance because I feel it compliments my personality very well! I defiantly recommend this product because it's not super pricey and has a great scent!

Wow have to say I've been very pleasantly surprised by this one! Picked it up very cheap at the local T.J. Maxx, was a tad skeptical with the low price tag but sounded like a decent fragrance and with all the other positive reviews decided I'd give it a go and glad that I did! It's reminiscent of a fragrance I can remember my grandfather wearing, don't mean that in bad old man sorta vibe, he always smelled really nice. It does have a sweetness to it but don't find it overly sweet as some have. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're looking for a bargain goodie!

Is a sweet, warm, woody and charming fragrance. I can get a nice apple vibe at the opening and musky/vanilla at the dry down. Nice for winter but a think you can wear this one all year long. Not a very strong masculine scent but is still very good for a men to wear everyday. The longevity is great, 6 to 8 hrs on me and the sillage is moderate but it projects very well for me. Personally I think this is kind of unique but not mind-blowing. I really recommend Original Penguin!!! 4 out of 5.

Don’t be fooled by some folks calling this fragrance cheap! I believe the word they’re looking for is inexpensive. This is a sexy scent for sure. A little like warm apple pie with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream. Is it new? No. Is it innovative? No. But it holds its own and your woman will love to cozy up to you while out on a date or for movie night at home. Plus it has a beautiful bottle. Lots of unnecessary hatred for the Penguin.

One of my favorites! Knocked out Nautica Voyage for best cologne for the price. A vanilla musk with spiced apple. The lavander is there, but doesn't take over the fragrance at all. Awesome projection & longevity and has never gotten too cloying for me in the summer. In fact, warmer weather is when I have received the most compliments on it. Would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing fragrance at a low cost!

Best 25 dollars I've spent on a cologne. Found it at TJ and had to try it. Presentation is great;nice box and a very classy/cool bottle. The juice, once settled is really very good. My interpretation is they took some notes from Boss Bottled no.6 , Abercrombie's fierce and curve and mixed and matched the notes, voila! Modern and masculine with just enough vanilla to smooth it out.

I have this as my winter fragrance. It's very warm, slightly sweet, vanilla cinnamonish, not too overpowering but potent enough that others can smell it through a warm jacket. Reminds me of a fireplace but definitely not in the same way as dior fahrenheit (completely different!) When all the guys reach for fahrenheit I stick to original penguin to stand out! :)

If you are into sweet fragrances then this is for you. Not bad for the price, but I find it smelling similar to Versace Eros which is not one of my favorites Overall ok for cold weather i have to edit my review ... after more wear i actually have more appreciation for this one ... its a pretty good fragrance ... for the price just buy it .

I got a sample from Nordstroms and WoW was I impressed! On my skin I got that sweet Apple throughout the whole time, to my nose it was like a sweet red gala Apple. Mixed with some vanilla which makes a warm clean sweet fresh smell, not your typical. I'm getting a bottle!!

Just got this because my fiance loves penguins.. I must say this is an under the radar gem!! Apple and Vanilla are the superstars here.. Kinda resembles Boss Bottled Intense EDP to my nose.. For under 20 dollars this is an easy blind buy!! Rating 9/10

This is a great fragrance and a very aromatic scent with a touch of wood. Definitely a must for any collector of good scents.

Underrated fragrance at a bargain price... Yesterday, I wore Original Penguin for the first time in many months. Not a special occasion, merely casual, but I had forgotten how much I liked this fragrance. Out of the bottle, I get the blend of fruit, musk, and vanilla notes. This blend is very pleasant and easy on the nose. The longevity is average, lasting about 6-8 hours on me with projection/sillage at arms length during this time period. Not too shabby. What was unexpected was the compliments received and inquiries from my girlfriend and her teenage son (who already has the nose for fine fragrances and developing his own collection). Given the well balance of notes, I would suggest that Penguin can be worn any time of year and provides flexibility to be worn day or night. I do note, however, that given the presence of musky notes, I think Penguin is more suited for a more mature population (35+). As noted earlier, I wore this for a more casual outing, but believe Penguin can easily be worn to more formal events. In addition to being a very pleasant fragrance, I think you will like the bottle and price/value. The bottle is uniquely designed with a magnetic cap - portraying the image of a more expensive fragrance. Nicely done.. Truly the best thing about Penguin is the price/value. As some of my colleagues below have already mentioned, Penguin is readily available at under $20 (USD) per bottle. A great deal for this fragrance. My final tally for Original Penguin for Men is 4.1 stars out of 5 stars. I like it a lot, but my opinion falls just short of "loving it". It is a good fragrance and a nice alternative to add to your collection (especially if you are like me, 35+, roguishly handsome, and established..lol..) Enjoy your day and make it count... Invest your time rather than wasting time...

Not bad for the price, I would love it if not for the harsh neroli opening. People claim they can't smell it and I think it is there, but it comes off as a generically harsh oily scent. I never like putting this on, for five minutes I hate the way it smells. Thankfully this goes away quickly and I'm left with a pleasant, fresh apple and vanilla combination. Apple is a note that gets buried in many fragrances, however, this is a very clear and natural apple. It is the same smell I get when I visit the orchards in Amish country. This smells "shower fresh" to me without being soapy. During the dry down the harsh neroli breaks down and a smoother note of pine and musk joins and drives the scent for the next few hours. The musk and pine overpower the apple and you're left with a strong masculine vibe with a hint of vanilla. People compare this to Eros, and that is definitely the vanilla talking. I love Eros, and the sometimes-overpowering vanilla is my main gripe with that fragrance--here the vanilla is just right. Overall this has a fresh, natural odor. Other users have noted the bottle is in the shape of a flask, this is in line with OP's brand of "leisure sports/casual drinking wear". The pine and musk remind me of a strong shot of Kentucky bourbon or maybe sipping an old fashioned. Strong, slightly bitter, but savory with a touch of vanilla (for the ladies, no doubt). I like it and I want to love this sooo much, it is very me. That opening though, yuck. Overall, recommended if you can hold your nostrils for five minutes and drink your whiskey straight. Good fall scent, cheap. It doesn't get as much attention, however. Blends in and offends few, fresh and natural. P.S. The magnetic cap is a nice touch.

Another cheapie but goodie for sure and for the price you can't go wrong with this scent as it smells great,performs decent and actually gets a few compliments! To describe this scent I'd say this is a fresh,slightly soapy,slightly spicy and gets warm in the drydown with the vanilla ! What this smells like to my nose is if you take Spiced cider and added vanilla ! Even though this is a fairly unique smell it does bare similarities to a lot of other scents I've smelled in the late 90's and early 2000's. So check this scent out if you like Tommy Hilfiger,Boss Bottled,Claiborne Sport,Curve and Mont Blanc Legend. Performance on this is decent as it lasts 5-8 hours but only has slightly below average projection but it does leave a nice subtle scent bubble around you for a long time which makes this a perfect work scent for spring,fall, and winter but I see this being best in fall. Overall rating --- 7.5 out of 10 ! I really like this scent as it's a comforting,pleasant scent but I do wish it projected slightly more which is why this fragrance is a strong like rather than a love. For the price you can't go wrong though :) PS--- I did get complimented on this from different age ranges of women and it passes the gf test so this scent is a winner. My girlfriend described this as a nice cuddle scent

I found Original Penguin for $25 for a 3.4oz so I bought it and gave it a try. Let me first say that the musk is pretty strong from the opening all the way to the dry down. The first spray I mostly get musk and only a bit of powdery sweet vibe in the background. Then it slowly smoothes out to a bit more woody sweet with the powdery lavender. When it has completely dried down, I get a nougat vibe with a bit of musk and some fir. I have never smelled the red apple or the neroli. I find myself only using this in fall/winter for casual use. I think this cologne can get cloying if it gets warm out. I get over 8 hours longevity with moderate sillage. The scent is mostly generic and I find myself reaching for this cologne less and less as I acquire new cologne. I would mention this cologne to others but not really put in a great word for it. Definitely try it before buying it because many people can be turned away by the muskiness. Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 6/10 Versatility: 4/10 Scent: 8/10 Overall: 6/10

This was a surprisingly solid blind buy. I had never heard of this fragrance or the Original Penguin brand prior to purchasing. I bought this as part of a gift set containing a 30mL EDT, aftershave balm, and shower gel in an after-Christmas clearance sale. It was original priced at $20 marked down 90% to $2.00. At that price, it was a no-brainer and an instant buy. I had very low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. Along with the musk, pepper, and pine notes, this fragrance has a bit of a warm spiced apple cider vibe going on that I found pleasant. Strictly an autumn/winter scent in my opinion. I wouldn't pay full price for this, but if you can find it at a discount, it's worth picking up.

Steal this at every opportunity you can get. OP is a beautifully blended fragrance that has broad appeal for the masses. Linear - what you get out of the bottle is what you have an hour or two later. And what you get is DIVINE. Warm, spicy, and pure fall in a bottle. For a guy whose skin devours fragrance, I get a surprising amount of longevity from this one. Musk shows up prominently on me regardless of how little there is, and I hate musk. Happily, I get none of it in this. OP flies under the radar, so grab as much of it as you can. Hard to overspray. Worried that it won't last long? Use the money you save to buy an extra atomizer and reapply! You’ll still come out ahead.

When I was young, I remember my father using one of many aftershave splash which had similar notes that's in this fragrance. The first time I sampled Original Penguin, I enjoy the top notes of Neroli with a very slight warn tone from hint vanilla and apple. The base notes of Amber, Musk, with a peppery scents gives it a soft warm and a slightly sweet aroma which comes off excellent. The slight aroma of pine helps to give this cologne a really nice woodsy scent making it a real attractive powdery masculine aroma. What I love about this cologne is the deep notes it has and it isn't harsh, but a nice classy scent. Overall, I give this cologne 7.5/10... Bravo Original Penguin

I picked up 100 ml bottle for 10 bucks. It's sweet almost has a woodiness in there somewhere. The lavender is very soft in this, the crisp red apple is pretty bright in the beginning and the vanilla is kind of a staple in this. Nothing mind blowing here but it is good. One of my friends wanted to wear some cologne and I had this Penguin, guess 1981 Los Angeles, original penguin blend, Abercrombie and Fitch first instinct extreme, and Halloween man X with me. He already knew and loved Halloween man X and this penguin was his choice to wear. Solid average performance and a fairly safe blind by especially for $10 even 20

For some reason I thought this fragrance was going to be light, young and more sport. The opening brings apple to the front followed by neroli or some citrus scent. Thankfully I don't detect much of lavender. Instead I get musk with pine and pepper. Then vanilla. So, this is mostly an evening fragrance. well done and likeable...like many other fragrances. Some fragrances move me, they generate excitement or curiosity, but Original Penguin for Men is just a very good perfume that for some reason lack the Wow! factor.

I picked this gift set up real cheap after the holidays and gave it a whirl. My first impressions were that this is a very soft and subtle fragrance. The blends of vanilla, lavender, peppers, pine, and musk almost give this a pipe tobacco feeling. I think that may have something to do with the apple top notes that round out this fragrance nicely. This fragrance makes me want to pull out a cardigan and relax. I had forgot to mention the bottle. I love the simplistic design and the magnetic cap. A nice touch.

A cheap fragrance, but still worth a buy. Original Penguin is the proof that fragrances don't have to cost us a lot of money in order to be good. On the other hand, do not expect a huge compliment getter or even a beast in terms of projection. It is perfect to be worn when you want to relax. Use it after the shower and you gonna feel really good about yourself.

I blind bought this fragrance and I'm happy with my decision. It's both spicy and fresh, and for the price you pay, it's worth adding to your collection. I catch a similarity to Old Spice Swagger body wash/spray/deodorant. Which is a good thing 'cause I've been searching for a cologne/scent similar to Swagger since I think it smells awesome. Still haven't found a perfect similar one but by accident I smelled a few of my fragrance collection & this one was similar. Anyone have any clues/suggestions?

Great blind buy ... thankfully I don’t smell neroli in the opening at all. The apple in the opening seems to turn into a sweat ripe banana in the dry down ... but that could just be me . I don’t think anyone could be offended by this 7.5/10! If only it performed and projected more ... Penguin absolu or extreme maybe 🤔

Perfect for casual wear in the fall. It's simple and has an oriental vibe that makes it ideal for the cooler weather. For some reason it reminds me of one of those halloween candy buckets (those pumpkins with the handle) filled with candy. I think its the apple. Otherwise a nice casual frag.

A very nice scent with a warm spicy vibe. Although slated as a more fall/winter scent, I can see wearing it year round. Not as over the top as others are about this, but it really is a good value fragrance that is hard not to like.

Reminds me of Mont Blanc Legend. It's nice. I didnt really expect much because it was so cheap. Ive learned cheap doesnt mean anything. Definitely worth the money.

Great inexpensive winter cologne. Warm red apple and vanilla done right. Not overly sweet. Not unisex. Masculine for sure. Good ROI.

Just received this fragrance and I am very impressed. The opening is very similar to F by Ferragamo, I'm guessing it's the apple and pepper, which is great because I love F. But then it changes from there as the musk and vanilla come into play while being "lightened" by the pine. It just smells fantastic. It's also very versatile. As the reviewer below mentioned this can be worn in warm weather. I find it can be worn day or night, casual or formal. Gucci pour homme II is no longer my sig scent (as it's getting hard to find) Original penguin is my new signature scent. Longevity and sillage are above average as well. What a gem.

One of the best cheapies out there you get a light and airy amber smell with some sweetness and a calming spiciness. It smells well blended for a cheap fragrance It last 4 to 5 hours with fair overall projection, but the best part is that it fairly unique in the designer world and is very mass appealing. I let a gal smell this, 360 red,bentley intense and more and she chose this one over them all. In a funny way this is poor man's ch men and a lady killer for teens. Great gift for a nephew

The new Dunhill Racing Red is very similar to this with less musk.

I was given a sample of this stuff at the store. At first I didn't smell any apples or cinnimon, just a sweet smell, maybe it was old? The chemistry on my skin was not good. It was okay on the test spray but reminded me of my grandmothers Avon. I tried to wash my arms about 3 times because it started smelling like pooh, I kid you not!. Not trying to put this down, but for me I'd gladly give this away to someone else that lives far away from me.

I don't care for this. It smells too much like too many other scents. Generically woody, generically sweet apple, generically spicy. I'm really not smelling any artfulness, here. However, that being said I suspect this might make a suitable starter scent for a very young man... My son-in-law has a bottle of this. I bet it works for him a lot better than it would for me!

Sprayed a little on my hand at Nordstrom's today. I have washed my hands four times with soap and once with hand sanitizer. The scent is still choking me. Very cloying and sweet. I think I expected something more masculine. This kind of scent is very common nowadays in men's fragrance and it's a real shame.

Penguin seemed masculine right out of the bottle. I enjoyed the apple top notes for the first hour. Once it settled in, I thought the scent became too feminine and reminded me of a perfume my Wife wore years ago, Longing by Coty. I wanted to give this retro cologne a chance but it is not for me.

I just don't get anything other than STRONG Musk. I mean if there is Lavender and Vanilla I have yet to catch it. This smell is so masculine. It's powerful upon application so people are sure to smell you. There is no uniqueness to this frag. It's simply just a crisp, manly, MUSKY scent.

I partially agree with the Versace Eros comparisons, the opening is just too bad for me to like this tbh

I got this on the cheap at Nordstrom rack & I hate it. It smells like a Creamy, Musty (not a typo) Vanilla. I don't like Vanilla scents in general and this scent just hits every note of something that makes my stomach do backflips. This smells like someone mixed Ferret pee with Acqua di Gio.

This very much reminds me of the sweet-spicy performance monster that original Minotaure used to be (when it was made by Cosmair). This stuff is amazing - truly old-school performance. I sprayed my arm in the living room when I got home, and then moved into the kitchen to feed the dogs. My wife got home ten minutes later, smelled this stuff in the living room, and said "what smells %$#@ing amazing?" To reiterate I had not returned to the living room since the single spray I put on my arm. If you loved original Minotaure, and weep over the far more shallow and synthetic replacement that was launched recently, believe me, this is one you want to try. This is less spicy, but the spices do shine more in the drydown (whereas Minotaure's spice was part of the opening). Original Minotaure had an amazing natural sandalwood, and despite this listing no wood note, there is a woody accord tucked away. What this shares with vintage Minotaure that the relaunched version and so many modern frags eschew is a prominent musk note - which is IMO the main reason the reform of Minotaure feels so flat.

Wow!!! What a beautiful scent! This is my first jump into the penguin house of colognes and what a great introduction. I had no reason to buy this but the price was too great to pass up and I needed one last bottle to achieve free shipping from my recent cologne lot purchase. What really surprises me with this one is that when I first sprayed it it reminded me of an old Franck Olivier Vanilla Oud bottle I had years ago. Then something really strange happens. A couple days later I sprayed this again and when out to run my weekend errands. This stuff smelled different from the first time I sprayed it. It’s like a chameleon of sorts that plays off of your body chemistry. What really surprises me with this bottle is the way they implement the vanilla. The sweetness comes from where I would assume is the apple. The vanilla stays with you from start to finish but changes in incredible ways as you progress through the pyramids. My only complaint is that the longevity is questionable. I get 2 to 3 hours, so this makes for a great summer scent. 7.5/10 for me.
