Jardins d'Armide

So... Jardins d'Armide... 🫠 After falling in love with Déjà Le Printemps, I excitedly ordered more samples of Oriza L. Legrand fragrances. I tried the first three: 1) Beautiful, 2) Sophisticated, 3) Evocative... Then I put this one to paper. Qu'est-ce que c'est??? It was a whiny musky note. Not terribly strong, but also not pleasant. It was so unfortunate and I was ready to write a very disappointed review. Then I let it sit on the paper strip and tested some other fragrances and returned to it later. QUE BELLE!!! It had (almost) completely transformed! This has a very beautiful effervescent quality to it, along with a sweetness that reminds me of photorealistic candy, like pastilles or SweeTarts. Yes, there is definitely rose, violet, marigold: But the best quality rose, violet, and marigold I have ever smelled! Gorgeous! The opening has long been forgiven, and this is definitely a masterpiece! I never thought I would love a fragrance so floral as this one, but she's a beauty! She's one in a million girls! Don't fall in love 😉 Perfect 10/10.

I do love cosmetic powder/rice powder scents. They’re my retro guilty pleasure. This one is rose heavy on me, with the violet/Orris playing supporting roles. The opening is a bit harsh and a little bitter, but that’s actually grown on me quite a bit. Once it settles the purple and red flowers are still vibrant but in softer focus,.It’s powdery, but not talcy baby powder. I guess I could compare it to ELDO Putain de Palaces and Maria Candida Gentile Burlesque. The balance of powder/floral elements are different for each one, but they’re the same idea though this calls to mind a Versailles palace as opposed to a one night stand in a hotel or the Moulin Rouge. I used to love the ELDO until I tried Burlesque, which smelled like better quality materials and more polished and filled-in in comparison. The Oriza may have knocked Burlesque off it’s pedestal, though. I’m hankering for a bottle. One of these days...

My experience with it doesn't quite match the scent pyramid. From top to bottom I mostly smell a powdery mix of violet and rose with something that smells like incense--not honey like I hoped--but frankincense or something churchy. Carnation provides an old smell, like dust that has accumulated on books that nobody has touched for a hundred years. I have been sampling a lot of perfumes lately that all happen to smell like churches. This smells more like a chapel, a melancholy one, where services are held regularly although hardly anyone ever attends. The chapel is hundreds of years old, made of cold stone, like the cathedrals of Europe. Colored light streams in through stained glass windows. The scent of flowers lingers in the air, flowers that are beginning to wither in their vases. They are changed every Sunday morning. Today is Saturday. Sillage is minimal. Longevity is a solid 12 hours or more.

This is my favorite Oriza L. Legrand perfume I’ve tried so far. It smells of very powdery, honeyed florals, mainly rose and violet. This is sweeter than I expected, and at first I thought it might be too sweet for my taste, but I’ve since fallen in love with it. Jardins d’Armide smells incredibly romantic! It’s so soft (texture, not intensity), sweet, and powdery. The sweet honey base is a bit chalky, even screechy, but it’s what makes this so noticeably vintage – no warm, generic, ambroxan-y base to be found here. Sillage is moderate, and longevity is 6-ish hours. This perfume always makes me feel so pretty! I’m currently on a hunt for the perfect powdery fragrance, and this is a strong contender. I might have to get a bottle of this, we’ll see... EDIT: Found my perfect powdery scent in Teint de Neige, but I’d still love to add a full bottle of this to my collection.

Very sexy grandma perfume - starts with a very strong parma violets smell, like a violet-scented powder puff, which smells delicious but doesn't necessarily smell like a great perfume. It made me wonder if floral perfumes with powdery undertones could ever truly be in vogue again, the way fruity gourmands with ambery notes are in vogue right now. I liked the whimsy of that first moment though, and I kind of went about my day, occasionally getting a whiff of the parma violet scent. Then after a period of not really noticing it, I went to smell my wrist and found it had dried down to a really beautiful honey scent - it becomes so intimate and sexy, I was totally surprised at how much I like it. It makes me think of porcelain dolls, powder rooms, the old style jelly candies that are covered in flour. It's a shy yet whimsical scent with an underlying sexiness.

Introduction of violet powderiness which I was a bit wary of but once it settles the rose, almond and the tonka sweeten and warm it up. The sweetness rounds and enhances the orris and iris that are quite evident. I really thought I would not like this but I really love it after powderiness wains quite quickly (thankfully). I realise why I like it so much now! It smells just like F Malle Iris Poudre. I guess I shouldnt be surprised considering the notes in this. It even lasts a lot longer than Iris Poudre on me. Im definitely getting an fb. I dont care if I smell like an old lady lol! I LOVE IT! Oh, I have to say that the sample box I received was gorgeous and beautifully wrapped in pale peach tissue paper. The box is soft duck egg blue with an apricot coloured satin ribbon wrapped around it with the bow on the front. It made my day!

Jardins d’Armide might be an even bigger powder bomb than Shalimar or Habanita — but of a completely different flavor. i’m becoming a sucker for powdery perfumes, me: so soft, such comfort. this one in particular showed me that even roses are not a problem when they come in powder form. this is a Rococo dream of Marie-Antoinette in her boudoir. it’s like being shoved face-first into the color palette of Sofia Coppola’s anachronistic pink dream of pre-revolutionary Versailles. enough pink powdered roses and tart violet candies to choke all your aunties, with a splash of amaretto on the side. the morning-after vibe is lingering powder, sweet grass, soft musk, and incense. musical accompaniment: “Your Brilliant Flowers” by Kaito, particularly the beatless version illustration: film stills from Marie Antoinette

My experience with this one has been rather opposite to what others have described. I found the Chypre Mousse to be the most difficult to appreciate and this one the most accessible. I do NOT get the heavy powder that some do, there is a nice light soft powder to it for me that keeps it rather feminine. The florals are very well combined and I don't really discern one over the other, just a beautiful blend. Thankfully I am not picking up much carnation not the heavy incense that some have mentioned. This is one you should spray lightly and give your brain a day to 'learn' it for it is something rather unique, then spray again a day or two later and you'll be surprised how much more you'll be able to appreciate it as a whole. Definitely fb for me, a very compelling sophisticated fragrance.

I'm a lover of any fragrance which makes you feel like a Belle Époque fancy lady, going out for a ball after powdering her skin generously to acheive the porcelain skin that was so fashionable at the time. Jardins d'Armide is exactly that. To put it simply, to me it smells a beautiful dried bouquet of flowers with plenty of powder on top. And I mean this in the most flattering way possible. It's elegance from an other time. It reminds me of the Bienaimé fragrances, but a bit sharper and not as sweet. Overall, once again a beautiful fragrance by Oriza Legrand. I'm almost ashamed to say that I own 6 of their beautiful juices but I've yet to find a house that brings back so many gorgeous retro scents for a decent price tag (perhaps Bienaimé?).

I love this, and it will be my next FB purchase. I am wearing a fresh sample just to make sure it has not been changed since I received a small decant several years ago. At that time it was impossible to find in the U.S., but now I have a local source! One me it is a dream of soft florals, honey, musk, and warm, dreamy almond, so lovely. Trying this one on a scent strip gives no hint of the wonder it becomes on skin, so be sure to give it a good wear before deciding. The almond is not candy-sweet like L'Artisan's Jour de Fete, nor is it an amaretto-like liqueur. It is sheer, subtle and perfectly judged to go with the floral notes without overpowering them. In fact, I think men would also enjoy wearing this if they like an almond note.

This is a gorgeous “now” perfume that feels classical in every sense. The powdery iris, guided by tonka and musk, is the overarching first impression. As it opens for a few moments, the orange blossom makes itself known with honey and almond trailing behind. Sweet and powdery, but not at all cloying. None of the other florals can be individually picked out, but blend beautiful. Every time I think I pin it down as a floral, I hesitate because it is so very complex, almost as if it has angles and one moment you can appreciate the orange blossom, and the next it’s a subdued, honeyed gourmand. I don’t think this is an everyday scent for me, but it’s lovely for special occasion use—I just can’t for the life of me decide what sort!

Beautiful powdery conceptual garden. What makes it special, to me at least, is the sugary scent of candied violets, I think it infuses the experience with such romantic elegance and grace. After the powder cloud settles, flowers emerge yet none of them have that vegetal feel, none of them are fresh, it feels like a photographic moment of a private garden like a boudoir, a powdered bosom, cascading curls and silk ribbons, the bowl of candied violets on a small table. Colors are vibrant pastels, pink and purple hues. It is vintage, of course, but it also has such presence, such beauty. One of my favorites from Oriza, gorgeous now in early spring.

I LOVE the aesthetics of this one. Powder, violets, slight sweetness; it smells to me more like expensive cream than lipstick/makeup. Stunning scent with a vintage vibe, but I wouldn't say it smells very dated to my nose (though it depends on what you're used to; ofc, it's not similar at all to modern sweet-flowery-gourmand scents). I'm not sure I need a FB (though it's gorgeous), but I will definitely use up my 5 ml decant when it's a bit colder outside. Also, Angel's Dust is one of my faves, and I do not find it similar - Angel's Dust is much more lipstick-y and iris-y. Here, violets take the main stage.

Jardins d’Armide by Oriza L. Legrand is another powder bomb, and I absolutely love it! It’s like stepping into a vintage dream with that classic, powdery richness. Love at first sniff. This is stunning. Sweet without being sickly and powdery without being too choking. The floral notes come together beautifully and form this wonderfully transportive fragrance. I’m so glad this lived up to my expectations. After trying my sample a few times I know I’ll end up with a full bottle. It’s evocative of a different time but isn’t at all dated in my opinion. Hopefully the rest of the samples I’ve ordered from Oriza L. Legrand are as fantastic as this one!

I will preface my review by saying that I love this brand as a whole. Everything is insanely good,superb quality and has that retro vintage feeling that I adore in perfume. This one is no exception. Jd'A is a perfect powdery floral. Nothing more and nothing less, which is not a small feature in a world of endless new brands and launches. Plush,fluffy and so,so elegant from top to bottom anytime anywhere. Lasts for ages both on skin and clothes and wears as light as a feather.

Not my genre at all, but I can’t deny that this is well executed. Cloudy, soft floral that makes you think of elegant Mucha ladies walking through a sunny rose garden. Satin and chiffon in olfactory form. Very light, airy, sweet like powdered candy but also green and tart. I could've sworn this had star anise in it. With no warmth or vanillic elements to speak of, it makes for a purely floral soapy accord that’s extra delicate and almost botanical.

Oh how I love this! I find this to be utterly pretty, ethereal, sparkly and powdery! Notes of violet, roses, iris and frankincense blended so well. I cannot help but link it to fairy dust, incense and confectionary. I love it and on my skin its sweet and sparkly. It reminds me of my childhood, Pink Musk Mastic Lollies..and incense.

I had this beautiful potion since it was released and I just recently opened my bottle of Guet Apens from Guerlain and they smell quite similar! A field of violet, iris and carnation with honeyed musk. 💜🌟💙

I bought a six sample set from Oriza and this is my favourite. Powdery and sweet, almost identical to Ebano -Essenzialmente Laura. It is beautiful! I am definitely going for a full size bottle.

I get spicy floral powder from this. The carnation is evident in its spiciness, lending an interesting twist to the more familiar combination of powdered sweet violets and roses. Apparently Wisteria also contributes spiciness but I am not familiar with that note so I cannot comment. I feel that the sweetness comes more from the flowers than from honey. The orris note becomes more prominent when the cloud of powder settles down. I detect the musk, a clean musk coming through after a while. I don't get the tonka or almonds or the orange blossom, a note that is present in many of my favourite perfumes. If these are present, they are overshadowed by the powder, violets and roses, in that order. One must enjoy powdered scents to enjoy this beauty. Sillage is quiet but the longevity is pleasing, it has crossed the eight hour mark on clothes although remaining close all the time. As a fan of powdered violets or roses or combined, this was a pleasure for me.

I first got a sample of Jardins d'armide that had a very (almost overwhelming) sweet opening, almost candy like. But dries down to a lovely sweet floral powder with a vintage feel. I eventually bought a bottle and got an older one. First I was a little disappointed since I wanted the newer box with the beautiful artwork, the decorative cap and tassel. But the older Juice is more balanced it seems, not as sweet as in the current bottles(and the sample). The opening is also more musky in my bottle, and this older bottle might have a slightly more vintage feeling to it. So it turned out great after all! Edit: It's a very sweet fragrance, but still it has a more elegant sweetness. Not like many of todays overly sweet fragrances.

Jardins d'Armide opens with boozy honey notes, quite dark, warm. Then the scent changes and I smell the dry notes of carnation, something rosy in the distance, something bitter, and mostly rough powders from orris and a mix of powdery flower notes. Then suddenly a springtime freshness of wisteria appears on top. The rose starts to bloom now as well, it is a classic rose and never overpowers. Notes of honey soften the scent and the heliotrope - almond - tonka base stays throughout. Lastly, the musk appears. Sillage and longevity are moderate on my skin. Another one from Oriza Legrand with a classic feel. I can appreciate a classic, but I really have to be in the mood to wear this one, it is so feminine!

I bought a discovery set of six fragances from Oriza, and this one, as someone who both adore iris and rose and love carnation, is just so pleasant. It's giving Nana from Zola. I feel like if you wanted to seduces a rich guy at the end of the 19th in Paris this is the kind of perfume you'd be going for. Very dusty even a bit minty at the begining (probably the carnation idk because Royal Oeillet has the same minty thing going on) also a bit soapy, but it's probably the orange blossom as it's never smell anything other than soapy on me. Classic and feminine something you'd want to spay on a huge taffeta dress.

Damn, I really miss this. I had a full bottle, but I wasn't reaching for it... I have the urge to smell it again. Would be lovely if they could do these in travel size as I really don't need 50ml+. Very powdery and sweet but does have that old-timey essence. It is a special one, but it can get on your nerves, especially if you're not use to that sweet vintage feel. Edit: Found my old sample of this from yonks ago, and I forgot how nuclear this fragrance is, which is probably why I had to depart it. It's quite powerful, and I can smell it - I applied this almost 12 hours ago, and it's still going!

It opens with a massive sugar burst, but soon settles down into a cloud of powdery rose and violet. Very polished; almost like a warmer version of TdN. I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it because of the sweetness, but I really do. I love most things with a make-up vibe, and the violet here is neither sour nor cloying. This reminded me of Dana (vintage) Chantilly when first sprayed. I really picked up on the carnation right away and the tonka dusty sweetness. But as it goes along it becomes an almond honey sweet powdered iris with a touch of carnation. Very pretty but I have vintage fragrances that give a similar vibe and they were less expensive. I will enjoy wearing my samples. It is very beautiful though and the vintage style is executed perfectly.

Jardins d'Armide is how a perfume with a classical flavor. Silty rose, iris and violet, like 18th-century France, those rococo lady, They cosmetics, encrusted feather hat and exaggerated big skirt. I love Jean-Honoré Fragonard's The Swing, i think which is a perfume and paintings are very perfect match. Want to buy it. Great !

A soft floral powder perfume. Similar to Chanel Misia and FB Angel's Dust, only Jardins d'Armide is nostalgic, soft, and classically abstract. It is also less sweet than modern perfumes. Makes me think of period films filled with beautiful gardens, innocence, and an optimistic score in the background.

Powdery notes, violet, and iris, usually these notes are my JAM, but unfortunately this smells better on paper/clothes than on my skin. The violet and the orange blossom seem to clash on me and the powder is muted (which some people may like).

Sharp in the beginning, slightly overwhelming, with a wonderful smooth powdery drydown. A scent for a mature confident woman.

On application it smells sharply of hot plastic melting in the sun with a mild suggestion of florals. The experience was quite jarring. It remains for a long time until a dry sweetness emerges and sticks deep in the skin. After a while, it transforms yet again into a mature layered purple floral which to my nose smelled remarkably like my old tester of Hypnose by Lancome. The whole journey took about two hours. I ended up liking it more than expected.

So sweet and powdery that I'm not really getting "garden" from it at all. I think gardens have greenery and soil. Maybe this is the typef garden that only has silk flowers. It makes me think of powdered sugar and the color pink. Kind of Lush snow fairy adjacent in my mind. I do wear it around the house when I want something really girly though, and recently I've been reaching for it more and more...

More violet-y than rose in my opinion. A less sweet, less fresh Kerbside Violet by lush. Definitely has a talc feel. I don't think it smells all that much like Misia because there is an Iris waxiness in Misia that isn't present here (like, maybe there's iris, but not that waxy kind of iris.) It's ok but kind of blends in with a lot of other powdery violet perfumes.

A very sumptuous scent! The box is amazing. So much care has been put into it. I like this one better than the Violettes Czar that I also own. The best is probably their Muguet. UPDATE: I hardly wear this. It is SO strong; people complain when I wear it. What a shame! I think I'll spray it on sachets, etc. for drawers and closets.

It’s a full vintage powder floral — rose, iris, violet, and orange blossom wrapped in a sweet honey‐almond base. It opens like a cloud of cosmetic powder and stays in that makeup bag register the entire time. Beautiful in a Belle Époque way, but too cosmetic and too much violet.

hmm, starts out very plasticky in the beginning, even in the drydown i am missing the "garden" aspect to all of this... reminds me of candied fruit, to be quite honest

This fragrance smells old school, it's mostly violet with heavy and very very dusty rose. I also smell something spicy like carnation and some dewy floral note. The honey is subtle on the background. I find it kind of boring, too much rose overall.

Lipstick, makeup power, sweet baby products and plastic dolls. I smell it all in this fragrance and honestly it's a bit overwhelming. It's not my favorite in this genre of scent but it is lovely. -

Sunscreen scented baby powder. Scented plastic baby doll head fresh out of the packaging.

Jardins d'Armide, 1901 orizalegrand Armida is a character from La Gerusalemma Liberata - Jerusalem Delivered - composed by the itlian poet Torquato Tasso in 1575. She is a sorceress attempting to stop Rinaldo from freeing Jerusalem by luring him away from the siege. She does that entrapping him in a beautiful and lovely garden. Ultimately failing in her attempts to destroy him as she falls in love with him instead. Armida lived an afterlife in the XIX century where composer Giacomo Rossini explored the tension between love and duty of both Armide and Rinaldo in his opera drama Armida (1817). There were also many painting dedicated to her and her garden and also famous tapestries. @orizalegrand chose to revive Armide's myth as the most emblematic of the seventeenth century magician, a woman of great beauty who knows the art of seduction and best embodies the ambivalent powers of charm. This is an uncomparable powdery fragrance, extremely unsual these years. The Queen of Flowers, Rose, is at the heart of this enchanting bouquet picked in the Garden of Armida. There is a good dose of Iris from Florence , but what enchants me is the Violet Wild powder which impart a certain edible quality to the conconction. It is reminiscent of Violet pastilles, seet and sour at the same time, natural but artificial (exactluy as her garden that seems the splendor of Nature, but was artificially created by magic). The drydown verges on the sweet side of things with Honey, Almond and musk bringing this tempting elixir incomparable strength. It is evocative of a bygone area where beauty and odours were able to seduce. A textured rose with iris-violet throughout that just WORKS, for mine... It's not only a syrupy rose with other florals thrown in, there's quite a bit going on and, I think all elements work together. It's some kind of Armenian paper accord tied to the rose, as well as the juicy fruity elements that orris/iris bring to the mix. I think I need to take this to the next level, I feel. It has me captivated and I'm very intrigued... ***EDIT*** So, this is my second go-around, and I am deciding to not pursue this one any further, also. It's a beautiful rose-centred scent, with not enough of a focus on the actual iris or violet elements. As silly as this sounds, I really REALLY like this scent, but for the wrong reasons, if that makes any sense -- I have PLENTY of rose scents, and I love EACH of those, but I was looking for a violet-rose or iris-rose scent (or even a iris-violet-rose scent), and this one is just too rose-heavy. I like rose, but I got this for the iris and violet elements, and they just aren't loud enough. This is still a 8 - 9 / 10 kinda rose scent, but I'm not looking for that here, unforch -- if YOU are, then you will LOVE this one...

If i had the room to collect many perfumes, this would definitely be another Oriza I would buy. I have Heliotrope Blanc which I love just a touch more than this but they are so different. Heliotrope is purple candied florals with a melancholic beauty, this one is pink and yellow with a sun dappled, romantic quality. This gives me a very vivid childhood memory. My sister brought me back a lip balm as a souvenir from her travels to Spain when I was a little girl, it was called Perfumeria Gal Lip Balm in the scent/flavour Violet. This smells similiar of that violet lip balm but also of the waxy/make-upy lipbalm base itself. Incredibly dreamy and whimsical. Candied florals, make up powder, vintage perfume scent that can still be pulled off easily today with the right outfit/setting. The image is a perfect representation of how this perfume smells, I can also envision Marie Antoinette wearing this or a courtesan of the 17th-18th century. I am wearing my sample before bed and I feel like i am going to have fantastical dreams of princesses lazing in the rocks of abandoned castle ruins overgrown withy Ivy and surrounded by wildflowers ✨️

Jardin d Armafi Create a contast image between Classic Powder that smell like the carnation scent from the same house. But also, the sweet bloom fresh floral like orange blossom, Rose, non-describe white floral and Carnation. I swear I also get mild incense feels from this. It slightly remind of nag - champa cone incense too. A quick summary would a scent I would put in undergarment. ... Extension (same day, 3 hours) I don’t think this is really waxy or powdery fragrance at all. It not even resemble misia edt that I own. It’s more like floral bouquet on powdery note. Stucture of lilac and carnation. I recall certain fragrance strongly “1932 edt by Chanel” But I am sure this is a scent from bygone era that won’t be recreate anymore. Oriza's charm is the scent library from bygone era for sure.

Whilst I'm not a huge fan of lipstick / makeup bag scents, I've come across a fair share of them in my swaps and I have to say this is one of the best I've come across. There are a lot of purple flowers in here, the wisteria and violets give it a real floral, feminine, springy vibe which I love, and the almonds and honey sweeten it up - another aspect that I enjoy as opposed to many of the waxy, dry, orris and powder dominated sisters of this genre. I could get on board with this one if I wanted something in this category. That said, this is still not my lane and doubt I would use up a bottle in a lifetime. I finally got round to getting a sample, and it's as lovely as I always imagined it would be. The tonka bean is strong in this (a good thing, obviously!). It's a beautiful, feminine, floral haze with gentle rose and violet both present but not competing. The underlying almond and tonka stop it being all fluttery flowers but without making it heavy. There are hints of cosmetic powder, hints of honey and it finally ends as musk. Gorgeous, but unfortunately on me it lasted 30 minutes, tops. My skin just eats it up-I don't know what tricks people are resorting to to get 12 hours longevity, it's nothing like that on me. Such a shame, as otherwise this would definitely be full bottle worthy.

An invigoratingly rough and full orris powder fragrance, bolstered with rose, violet, musk, and other aspects of more vaguity. Jardins d'Armide doesn't play as smoothly as many powdery scents, and that distinctive boldness makes for an enjoyable surprise. A scent like this inspires action. ...and the deeper drydown is a wonderous, slightly smoky, vanilla-tonka dust. The perfume formula for Jardins d'Armide dates from 1909, while the name is a poetic reference to the enchanted island garden of the witch, Armida, in La Gerusalemme liberata, a late 16th Century Italian epic poem written by Torquato Tasso.

No one smells like this anymore. Not because it's dated, but because it doesn't suit sweatpants, sneakers and baseball caps. Jardins d'Armide is deeply poetic, warm and powdery, carnal and elegant. Classic but far from banal. Complex yet cohesive, not a false note here.
