La Fleur D'Oranger Cologne

Yes there is a beautiful and realistic freshness to it but sadly it turns to laundry detergent on my skin, can't really smell the orange

Oriza L. Legrand's L'Fleur d'Oranger is yet another example of the classically simple orange blossom cologne. (This current cologne is supposedly a recreation of a cologne first made in 1937.) Indeed, so many perfume houses offer one (or more) orange blossom fragrances: Diptyque, Fragonard, Houbigant, Le Labo, Serge Lutens, etc., to name a few that now cross my mind. Of course, these many different offerings are not identical, and can vary greatly in the details, ...perhaps chief among these being the relative proportion of neroli essence to orange blossom absolute, ...or synthetic accords there of. The former note is of course more aromatically green, while the latter is more richly white floral. Some cologne formulae take the concept even further in either direction with sly additions: petitgrain to further neroli's green nuance, ...or else, jasmine and tuberose to further whiten the orange blossom. It is also worth noting here, that orange flower water hydrosol, the flavouring note used in culinary and lighter cosmetic applications, is an additional by-product of the neroli oil extraction process. So then, in which direction does Oriza's historical formula lean? Overall, it is a fairly balanced median scent that does not approach either extreme, but the opening smells more strongly of neroli than orange blossom absolute. That orange blossom leads in votes here on Fragrantica is likely a result of the cologne's name influencing perception. If this had been named Eau de Neroli or something similar I suspect the green freshness of the opening might seem more apparent to others. I find this an agreeably pleasant option for those seeking a neroli-leading orange blossom cologne.

It’s beautiful because it’s all about simplicity. It’s also beautiful because it’s soft, very natural, and gently creamy. A certain idea of cleanliness. A perfect clean scent, reminiscent of fresh, clean sheets. Since this cologne is round and comforting, it’ll be easy to use and over use, during the summer: a true little remedy for the heatwave. It may come across as 'baby orange blossom' at first, but give it time to rest and it will take on a honeyed tone as it dries down. Turning into an amber honey.
